  1. Burp As Captain Bran arrived in Quinnsville the welcome he received was warm. The first evening a celebration was prepared with coffee, chocolate, female entertainment and of course rum! Still with the sun on the horizon, everyone attending the festivity was drunk till the bone. Captain Bran had to take a break from the alcohol and strolled into the woods surrounding the village. He wandered off, till his bladder couldn’t hold it anymore. The captain looked around to find a quiet spot to take a leak. Behind some bushes he found a fountain. “Strange spot for the mayor to build a fountain”; he thought. But his intoxicated mind brought the bad up and before he knew it, the result of his evening drinking was splashing in the fresh water sprouting from the ornament.
  2. My shipbuilders requested some palmwood, and I heard the best palmtrees grow on Cocovia, and it just so happened that I know some people around there. So I decided to to ask them if I could start a small plantation to get my needed supply of palmwood. Luckily it all worked out well; I sent one of my assistants out to set up the plantation in the near vicinity of Quinnsville. So, lets see how it goes around there: While some of the horses, which are pulling the wood from the plantation to the harbour aren't behaving as well as they should, they still get the job done. You can see one of my men is tying the newly cut down palmtree to the harness the horse is wearing. And here we can see our other two friends working, Joe is happily cutting down another tree while Kayne has just finished removing all the leaves from the latest palmtree so it is ready to be moved to the harbour of Quinnsville. And, as usual, we have out bird flying over it showing what it sees. __________________________ This small plantation will be licensed as my free property in Quinnsville
  3. Captain Bran and the Queens Shade - my first BoBS build - Last night, Captain Uli Bran gathered the last few men for his journey east. A small regiment boarded, the supplies for the Quinnsville was loaded on board and Captain Bran overlooked the whole process with joyful eyes. The first official mission, setting sail to newly discovered islands under the reign of our Majesty, starting my new life far away from where he grew up. With pride he stood on the deck of his newly assigned Class 2T cog the Queens Shade, watching the crew prepare for their trip. By dawn the sail was raised, the early wind caught the ship and dragged it into the open ocean. Captain Bran pulled his wheel towards Cocovia, a long journey towards the new settlements. On a sidenote: Thanks for the compliment for seeing me as a veteran builder, but to be honest this is my first MOC including building a ship of this size. So this is new to me too... on the other hand, I won't post anything that I am not satisfied with. So I hope you like it, I do. Some systems are not really clear to me yet, so explain, how this build can be maximized for the Economic system or just one of the Trade projects. Thanks for your help. For example, what do I put in the title so I will get the appropriate bonuses?
  4. After a three week journey the Queens Shade docks in Quinnsville. Captain Bran was invited by Sir Thomas Smaugton. The invitation wasn't the reason he sailed here. Strategically this port is closest to the new worlds and the direction the explorers went the last couple of expeditions. Captain Bran got a letter of property in name of the Queen and presented it to the mayor. The mayor assigned a small building the letter, being not to fond of these free licenses. 5. A brilliant idea! But that's not what she said... The King of Carno leaned back on his throne. It was a fine day, and the king had his mind running on a bunch of odd topics, including that of diplomacy. It seemed that his ambassador to Corrington had been quite worthless, and that really needed to be fixed. Suddenly it struck the King of Carno that an alliance with that nation would be just the thing to have, and that a perfect way to accomplish such an alliance would be to marry Queen Annette, who, however, he knew absolutely nothing about. Nothing daunted, the king leap off his throne and shouted for his horse. After riding over to Bellson in mad haste (he always did everything in such a condition), he alighted at the palace gate. "Queen whatever thy name beeth!" he exclaimed, bowing low, "it has recently popped into my head that, that, the fact is - in short, that I ought to get married. Your own worthy self instantly came to mind, and it is my great pleasure to present myself as your loyal servant, and to humble request your hand." Queen Annette looked bewildered for a second (which gave the king much hope of a good outcome) - however, she promptly ruined his dreams and smashed his aircastles by jumping out of the throne, and hurling her scepter at him. He looked up in surprise. "May I consider that a statement of your extreme willingness to share our kingdoms, and, perhaps to combine them into - let us see - Carnington?" he inquired in an elated undertone. The next moment he found himself flying through the air in a state of ejection from the polished doorways of the noble edifice, and he landed with a splat on the pavement below. The king looked around and shook his head. Suddenly recollecting his position, he leaped back onto his charger, and with only one hurried glance backwards, sped back to his capital - wishing, perhaps, that he had left things up to that useless ambassador. => next chapter: Dashing Out by Garmadon ---------------- OOC ---------------------- This was an enerving build :p First of all because our national soccerteam was playing the same time (luckily I was in another room than the tv). Secondly because I had to redo a large part of the floor mozaic... The build is based on the palace room Ska build
  6. Out of the far west comes many things foreign to the average Halosian, things that are rarely seen East of the Molokai Empire. However, in recent times, several vessels have made their way to the Brick Seas, seeking part in the riches rumoured to be in New Terra. These vessels are of a curious construction and with rigging which baffles even experienced Halosian sea dogs, being so very different from the typical designs. According to scholars in Belson, this type of vessel is known as a junk, a very diverse classification covering everything from small merchant vessels to large armed privateers. This particular example is of the former, and named "The Dozy Dragon". Its capacious hull holds a large cargo space, and armament has been sacrificed to make room for even more. On its sides, orange gunports are painted to, at least at a distance, give the impression of great firepower. ________________ This is a build that has long been on my shelf (even photographed) - it was fun to experiment with something different, and I quite like how it turned out. However, those sails were a pain to fashion. If I ever return to "junk-building", I will find another technique. She is a class 2T. C&C is, as always, welcome.
  7. One of Major Dirk Allcocks first priorities for the new settlement of Mooreton Bay was raw material with which to build. To impress the natives Dirk believed it was important to build in stone and brick, so different from the native's own flimsy wooden structures. Fortunately there was an abundance of good quality sandstone in the area and a site for a quarry was quickly located. Labour however was a problem. Free settlers were still scare and would probably not undertake the back breaking work of cutting and dressing the raw stone. Dirk's labour problems were solved quite unexpectedly when news arrived from Captain Matthew Sawkins of the Lady Jacqueline. Captain Sawkins had the good fortune to capture two dastardly Pirate vessels during the April trade run. While these vessels were safely dry-docked, the crews were another matter. Captain Sawkins didn't feel as a civilian it was his role to execute the pirate crews. Corrington law called for pirates to be hanged by the neck until dead, although usually this followed a trial of sorts. Instead he shipped the two pirate crews in chains to Dirk for him to deal with. Dirk, horrified at the thought of executing so many able bodied men when labour was in such a short supply, has in his authority as temporary military governor of Alicentia, stayed the execution. Now he was put the convicts to work on various projects around the new settlement. Here a small detachment of soldiers and a freeman overseer supervise the work of cutting and dressing sandstone blocks at a quarry. Each block is shaped by hand into a workable brick size for transport to the near by settlement. Licensed as a medium factory in Mooreton Bay, Alicentia
  8. Renown artists Gianmario and Pierluigi d'Mozzarelli from Pontilla have landed in Port Raleigh! But why come to a backwater colony like Port Raleigh, you ask?! Gianmario: To create da greater arte, one musta see da Worldo! Pierluigi: To spreada da culture, one musta come to da New Worldo!
  9. Ibn al'Sayeed was not what you would call the nervous type, yet these days, he didn't exactly seem at ease, wandering through the financial district of Belson. As Montoya had been called to the old world (once more delaying Cooke's arrival at Quinnsville) on a diplomatic mission to Carno, al'Sayeed had taken the opportunity for a ship back to the old world. While managing the Montoya Estate was typically pleasant business, this month was different, and he needed to discuss the situation with some of his old contacts around the stock exchange. He had just left such a meeting, which had been no consolation. Normally news of New Terran shipping would long have been in already, but so far, only a few merchants had made it to the Old World, and those with very sparse news. Thus, the stock market was ripe with speculation about the reasons behind this delay. Some said a storm had taken most of the ships, some that trade had dwindled, others (mainly Olean priests) that Poseidon had risen in wrath. The only thing certain was that the markets were very nervous, and that many expected a crash. As his contacts had been able to tell him, significant interests were starting to bet against the market, and others were following. Were the days of great fortunes being made in New Terra over so soon? As the Montoya Estate had most of its funds tied up in shipping, al'Sayeed had his reasons to be worried... ____________________ Just a small build to comment on the lacking MRCA results - I figured I might as well make it a storyhook! C&C welcome
  10. Of course one of the first priorities of a new colony, especially one surrounded by potential enemies, must be it's defence. To this end Major Dirk Allcock has designed and had constructed a small fort in the entrance to the harbour. A small rocky outcrop, not even really an island, was flattened out and a small tower was constructed on it. The round construction using thick bricks of sandstone from the newly established quarry makes the squat fortress impervious to all but the largest cannon fire. Eight 18 pounder cannon give a full 360 degree coverage of the harbour, although not all can be used at once, in-fact only 2 artillery crews can really fit inside at one time, but 8 cannon looks more intimidating, and if all the cannon are pre-loaded it saves in reloading time! Here Dirk conducts an inspection of the finished tower. Details. Licensed as a small fort, Mooreton Bay, Alicentia. I really wanted to get a fort in before the end of the month and it would seem I have (just) made it!! I was feeling insecure for my little settlement with the unknown forces of Garvey next door (not to mention the strangely suspicious island choices of Olean). Not sure how the Garvians are going to react to the glorious presence of our Empire on what they may have mistakenly thought was their island Anyway the build is inspired by the real Fort Denison in Sydney harbour. The only example of a Martello tower in Australia, it was obsolete before construction had even finished!
  11. HMS Mardier’s Misft Mardiersmisfit by skaforhire, on Flickr In April, the Corrington Royal Navy took many vessels while running routine convoys, one of these vessels was the Mardier’s Misfit. Corrington also took many casualties in the same month, and now some of the captures are being refit in Corrington colors for duty in the Far Waters. DSC_2977 by skaforhire, on Flickr The now HMS Mardier’s Misfit is an odd vessel. Rumor has it that when she was part of the Mardier Fleet years ago she was captured by pirates. The pirate that had taken her thought it would be better to have two ships, so he sawed her in half and built up the middle ends. This gave her an odd look, When once a 32 gun ship, she was now reduced to 15 guns, and assumingly her sister ship was constructed the same. This brought her down from a 5HA to a 4A class. Still, even with her odd sailing characteristics and her short gun deck, she is a terror for those who would pray on the Corrington Fleet. DSC_2969 by skaforhire, on Flickr Today commanded by Captain Trevors, she is ready for duty in the May MRCA. DSC_2974 by skaforhire, on Flickr
  12. HMS Gauntlet HMS GAUNTLET by skaforhire, on Flickr After a devastating April trade run, the Royal navy has decided to post another warship to the Far Waters. The HMS Gauntlet will temporarily take the place of the HMS Bullshark until the Crown can forge Carno to relinquish her. DSC_3007 by skaforhire, on Flickr The HMS Guantlet was taken from the Oleon Navy during the Juniper War, and had mostly served as a consul ship on the northern coast of Corrington since. She is fast, agile, and well-armed. She is currently fitted out as a 5HA class warship, but if she drops some of her iron, she can make the speed of a class 5A. DSC_3001 by skaforhire, on Flickr Hmm, I met to crop those, sorry!
  13. Formerly a small pirate sloop known as the Clear Conscience [Class 1A], she was captured by Eslandola and later auctioned off as small ships were deemed useless to a large trading empire. However, one man's trash is another man's treasure. The Emporium Consortium bought the ship at a modest price and refurbished it. Now sporting the colours of Corrington and renamed the Sea Sparrow, she serves as a light-armed reconnaissance vessel. At Miranda's orders, Ivoire and Hildegarde set sail from Port Raleigh toward the newly discovered island of Serentia to locate the whereabouts of Lenny.
  14. Read previous entries here. Sergeant Bolton has been busy negotiating with the Onondaga people for long term trade relationships. Chief Otetiani has responded the most favorably to Bolton's trade discussions and friendship though the overall perception among the natives has been favorable. One of the things Bolton has been learning is what the Onondaga people have to offer in trade. In the present, they have the ability to provide housing to the early settlers. They also have great knowledge of the agriculture that grows and the animals on the island. In the future, they wished to trade furs, bead jewelry, and meat with the Corlanders. The younger generation learning how to string beads. Some haven't quite gotten it. The Onondaga admire the horses. Preparing hides Local garden Cooking for the tribe Hunting party leaving while younger boys wave and girls play with cornhusk dolls. Second Overview Edit: Total brick count of 8256. It kept crashing once I got about half of the fences up so I had to delete one of the longhouses in order to help out. Though in the end I just had to work a few at a time and resave. The large renders took on average 24 hours each in POV Ray, but the smaller scenes I used Bluerender on and they would take 20 minutes tops.
  15. That’s no Oleander Vessel! Miles Bryan was awakened from his slumber on deck the Swift Packet by a shout. “Oleander Vessel to the rear! Coming upfast!” Said Jym Hakins. The boy did have a good eye… Miles came to the rear railing and immediately grabbed a musket. DSC_2794 by skaforhire, on Flickr “That ain’t no Oleander Vessel, son!” and he fired at the small skiff giving chase. He could see with his one good eye the blood stains on the Oleander uniforms. These were pirates! As if to confirm his suspicions, they unveiled their blue pirate flag. DSC_2791 by skaforhire, on Flickr “Haul up the main sail, let’s make some speed!” he yelled, they were only at half sail because the Pandora, their escort was chasing down a pirate, Pardisio that had given chase to the Saucy Jack, also in their flotilla. He was pretty sure he could have turned and let the long 6s blow the little craft out of the water, but he was light on crew and knew that handling the vessel and firing would be risky if the little skiff closed on them. He let off another musket shot and cursed at the pirates, but they were already pulling away from the blue bandits… DSC_2801 by skaforhire, on Flickr I was going to photoshop this last one to look like dusk... but yeah... got busy. I guess this is a skiff -- anyone want to buy a skiff? haha.
  16. This was not a good day to be Lieutenant McLeod. He had just lost his command, the Otter, and now had to find its owner, don Isaac Montoya, to bring him the bad news. Luckily, he had found passage to Cocovia on the vessel that resqued him and his crew from drowning, and had just now reached King's Harbour. While some might stipulate that loosing one's vessel to a much superior and completely scrupulous enemy was not something to be blamed for, and indeed, McLeod had been trying to convince himself of this for the whole trip, as had the captain of the vessel that picked him up, but he remained stressed. Surely, he would not be facing a court martial, as the Otter was a privately owned vessel, but still - it felt like a blemish on his carreer, and he knew not the consequences. Finding that Montoya was under way to Quinsville had given him some temporary respite, but no resolution to his anxiety. And really, Montoya was not who he worried for. Much more imposing was his friend, McLeod's former captain to whom he was indebted for gaining him his first command, Captain Jno. Cooke. Surely, he would not look lightly upon the loss of the cutter and its cargo? Walking through King's Harbour, everything seemed to remind McLeod of the impending dread of bringing over his news. Ibn al'Sayeed had taken it gently, consoled McLeod and offered him and his crew lodgings at a makeshift inn in King's Harbour, but as McLeod was now strolling along in his own thoughts, he noticed the newly build printers shop, where the Proceedings were being printed. The Proceedings being the official journal of the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy, and its new world editions being printed here, in King's Harbour on Cocovia, could not but be another reminder of his grim faith. He wondered if he would ever be able to take ship again... On the backside of the printers shop, fresh paper was being delivered, and inside the editor was busy setting the types for the newest edition of the Proceedings. It included a working paper by Baker & Montoya on the Cocovian Coral reefs brought in a few days ago by the Ferret packet, as well as the most recent notes on Alberto de Pontelli's recent experiments in flight, and was sure to cause great uproar and interest in the Royal Society. At the same time, his assistant was busy printing the already finished articles, most noteworthily one on turtles by Major Dirk Allcock, and some paleontological notes by Sir James Chase. Here you see a detail shot of my printing press and the table where the editor is setting the types for printing. Thanks for looking - C&C is as always welcome. The building and street is rather basic, but I am somewhat limited in my bricks, and try to make the most of it. I really like how the printing press came out, although we have already seen a few magnificent examples.
  17. For the backstory read here particularly challenge 2. Sergeant Anthony Bolton and his platoon of militia were busy training the horses on the new ranch into war horses. They were also training themselves to become the first platoon of a company of light dragoons. In addition to those duties, they were tasked with both continuing good relations and establishing trade with the natives. So far things had been going well. On this occasion, Sergeant Bolton and one of his men, John Hollins, have been invited to the longhouse of one of the nearby chiefs. The event was a meeting of the chiefs of several villages to discuss trade and ongoing relations. Showing the wisdom that had earned him this post, Sergeant Bolton brought with him a gift of a sword and an ax for the local chief and as an indication of the goods they were capable of trading for the good of the area. The meeting included a delicious feast of apples, root vegetables and wild game cooked on spits over the fire. The women of the tribe were busy preparing the meal when the Sergeant and Hollins were ushered inside by the guards. The children were busy frolicking about trying to catch the frogs that were just now coming out of hibernation. The weather though warming up was still brisk so a small coal fire was warming the inside of the longhouse where the chiefs and elders were gathered around. Upon entering, Sergeant Bolton was pleased to note that several of the chiefs there had decided the Corrington headgear they had been gifted was the best headgear to wear. Relations were going well with these villages. Hopefully the ones further inland were also amicable toward the Corrington expedition.
  18. Much has occurred since we last saw Captain Dirk Allcock in King's Harbour setting up a Cocoa Plantation. He had meet with Sir James Chase and Don Isaac Montoya and together they had launched the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy. After this, Dirk had stayed on in King's Harbour, giving his men a well earned rest and himself a chance to leisurely explore the immediate area. However all good things must come to an end, and thus it was so when a letter arrived for Dirk from Belson. To the most honourable Major Dirk Allcock, Sir, the Ministry has received your report and recommendation of settlement of the island you landed on in the month of February. After much consideration, it has been decided to proceed with claiming this Island for the Crown. Enclosed are orders from the Army board instructing you to proceed with haste to the island which shall henceforth be known as 'Alicentia' in honour of her majesty the Queen Mother. Included in the Army dispatch is a promotion to the brevet rank of Major. You will also find enclosed is a declaration of colonisation and settlement from this office together with your commission. You are to proceed to Alicentia and find a suitable place for our first settlement on the island. You are formally charged with the authority to make a treaty with the natives you previously established good relations with. When a suitable location is found, you are to report to this office and await the dispatch of the first batch of colonists for the settlement. Whilst waiting you are charged with preparing the site and establishing the initial settlement. You are empowered to enlist any potential colonists for this endeavour at any existing colony of the Crown. Yours sincerely, Reginald Fortesque, Secretary, Ministry of the Colonies And so Major Dirk Allcock did indeed proceed to Alicentia with haste. He collected a considerable amount of supplies together with a small group of colonists looking for adventure. The he proceed to Alicentia and made contact once again with Xochitl and her tribe. A treaty was quickly agreed upon and signed at a ceremony near where Dirk had initially landed all those months ago. Now his first priority was to find a suitable place for a settlement, several suitable natural harbours had already been flagged as potential sites. ______________________________________________________________________ A quick freebuild to advance Dirk's storyline and to formally establish our claim on the Island formally known as 'Island 9'. Settlement to be announced soon!
  19. This is the result of the battle Corrington lead towards the forest against the filthy human sacrificiers who rose against King Azuma and the western settlers from Corrington and Eslandola. You can see the excellent begining of this story here. I have to thank SkaForHire to let me conclude on the fate of the Eslandolan trader known as Damion Denela. A "Gift" from Corrington : While the Doctor and his companions were preparing their expedition, Felipe de la Manzana charged Basil and el Colonel Severus to organise the security of Elysabethtown. They caught some dangerous pirates near the port and managed to put them rapidly in a "cosy" cell... When a letter arrived to Basil anouncing the arrival of Lt Tanner with the Eslandolan trader Corries caught at an horrible human sacrifice. Impossible such a tader could be from MAESTRO ! Probably an independant merchant who thought he would make more money being out of morale... After a few days, Lt Sully Tanner arrived with the prisoner solidly chained up. "Right in time ! Thought Basil. We have some pirates who are bored of our new prison..." Basil showed the way to the prison to the Lt Tanner. 'Hang on "Shrimp" encouraged the former pirate captain. You are not going to die !" - Shh. Someone ! The pirates looked at the opening door. "Let me unchained the prisoner and put some handcuffs, it will be better, isn't it ? Said Colonel Severus to Lt Tanner. - Yes of course you're right. Answered the Corleander officer. "I would like to thank MAESTRO and your leaders to have kept an open mind. Of course Corrington is not accusing the Eslandian Company to deal with those filthy barbarians !" Conclude Lt Sully Tanner shaking Basil's hand. - Thank you to trust us. I hope this incident will help our countries to be better allies in the future. Perhaps we will help you to lead some military revenge against those dangerous men !" Answered Basil. And they through the poor merchant at the mercy of the pirates prisoners into the cell... "HELP ! They will kill me !" yelled Damion Denela. The guard did not answer... I hope you'll like this (rude) scene. It is inspired from a book I recently read : Le Déchronologue, a French mix between Sci-fi and Piracy. A good read ! and an horrible prison scene !
  20. Participants: Maxim I (ESL), TitusV (ESL), Tomsche (COR), Sebeus (OLE), LJ Hornblower (Nat), Peter G. (Pirates) Story 1: Flotilla In Need On a chilly morning, Lord Damaximus and his fiancee Margot, Lady Elysabeth and Lord Smaugton were doing business in Quinsville. After talking recent politics and the death of King Stephan of Oleon, the Eslandolans boarded their ships and set sail. The Purple Rain and Golden Star headed for Elysabethtown to take in provision for their further voyage. The ship passed some of the newly discovered islands (especially the one with the cannibals was interesting)... The so peacefull voyage stopped abruptly when the two shipped crossed the "Beatrix" and "Pegasus", both ships under command of promising Oleon admiral Sebeus. Out of the blue, the Beatrix started firing at the Purple Rain.... Luckily for the "Purple Rain" and "Golden Star", the Eslandolan flagship "Margot" set sail out of Elysabethtown... The moment the crew of "Beatrix" saw the "Margot" getting near, they stopped their fire and tried to flee ... Together with the "Margot", the Eslandolan flotilla managed to arrive safely in Elysabethtown... Story 2: The Arise of Pirate Captain Sebeus Back in his young days, Sebeus dreamed of being the greatest Oleon admiral ever. As a young kid, he always played with wooden ships and knew the tricks of sailing better than most so called captains... His talents didn't remain unknown, and he was spotted by the high admirallity of Oleon. King Stephan himself took care of the boy and tought him everything he knew. Due the many hours spent together, Sebeus saw King Stephan as his Godfather. So the moment King Stephan died due to a mysterious reason, Sebeus felt betrayed by his Oleon brothers and went rogue. He took the "Beatrix", the ship he was promised to command one day and together with the "Pegasus", they set sail to the unknown. The first vessels they came across were flying the "Eslandolan flag". 'Perfect' Sebeus thought as he had heard the rumours of the Eslandolan King claiming the Oleon throne. After the first salvo, someone was suddenly yelling "Margot". Sebeus got a chill. Even with the "Beatrix", he had was match against the pride of Terra Versa, so he ordered to stop firing and set sail again. He also knew he would not be welcome in Oleon's society anymore. And thus he started the legend of Captain Sebeus, the new terror of the Brickseas... [OOC] as many have noticed, real life Sebeus is not that active anymore due to real life. Still, he was very surprised to hear the King of Oleon had died as it was named after him and he set up Oleon. As he will still be too busy the upcomming months, he proposed to become a NPC pirate captain (like Bloody Bill for example). He hopes to get amnesty when he has building time again... So at Ska, you got a new Pirate Captain to add in the next MRCA!!! Story 3: The revenge on an Oleon Trader Not long after the previous events, a group of Eslandolans managed to sneak by a small Oleon Trade ship and captured it. The moment they went aboard, the Oleon cowards surrendered. [OOC] we asked first permission if we may capture the ship. Yes Tomsche, we Eslandolans first ask if we MAY capture a ship instead of just capturing it.... The BoBS lay-out at Brickmania Wetteren 2016 I hope you enjoyed the pictures!! It was a very nice weekend! Next Brickmania Bobs Lay-out: Limburg (Belgium) 27 & 28 august. More BoBS lay-outs can be found here

Hi guys, Yes, you've read that cor(rington)rectly This is my contribution to Bregir's King's Harbour contract offer. I thought, well, since Oleanders are generous folks, let's continue the generosity To Captain Jno. Cooke, most honorable Military Governor of King's Harbour on the island of Cocovia, Corrington. In the spirit of conciliation between Corrington and Oleon, the Royal Shipyards are humbled to present to you plans for a harbour station and a patrol boat, matching your contract's description. These plans match the high standards of all the Royal Shipyards work, and we sincerely hope they meet your requirements with satisfaction. Enclosed you will find the construction plans, along with some of our artist's impressions of the station. Quilbignon, April 21st 616AE Signed, The Executive Director of the Royal Shipyards Vive le Roi!
  23. Foreword from the author Salutations, dear BoBS. This is my attempt at a story revolving around a young nobleman who is discovering himself, in the age of discovery. (How apt.) The story will be told in mini-episodes. While I'll try to build a scene for each episode, but due to time and material constraints, I may have to put the story first. I love pop culture and black humour, so you may expect some to be incorporated into the story.("I knew that was going to happen" cliches and "I see what you did there" lines.) Additionally, there may be scenario branches at the end of each episode in which the audience is invited to choose the next branch. So it's a little interactive in the sense that it will affect how the next part of the story is told. This story is a work of fiction and any resemblance to any persons living or dead are purely coincidental. Introducing the characters Lenny - Leonard Wilburforce Whitegate (20) The protagonist and budding adventurer is the youngest son of Admiral Percival Forsythe Whitegate, 2nd Earl of Granchester. He has attended Archeon College and also served a term as a midshipman in Her Majesty's Royal Navy and so has some seafaring knowledge under his belt. 24. Cooke was in high spirits - This was the kind of sailing he was made for - Cracking on through the waves at nine knots two fathoms under every conceivable scrap of sail. The HMHV Athena was heeling over, and the frequent spray of sea water reached as far as her main mast each time she broke a wave. Cooke we driving her hard, just this side of reckless, and he loved it. So did the crew - After weeks of lying moored in King's Harbour, keeping harbour watch and working hard on shore, they were now back were they felt at home. Familiar duties, meals, and watches that to most landsmen would seem insufferable, was their way of life - and they loved it despite Cooke constantly calling for sail trimmers to get that extra half a knot. Currently, most of them had a respite. It was nearing noon, and Cooke was occupied with his sextant, measuring the angle of the sun at its highest, a daily ceremony that would mark the start of a new naval day and allow him to lay down his latitude with the utmost accuracy. A landsman might have remarked that with the coast of Cocovia clear on the starboard side, this was perfectly superfluous. One had simply to keep it there, and they would invariably reach Quinnsville, their destination, in due time. In fact, Montoya had done so, but surprisingly (to Montoya), Cooke had not attended to his arguments and instead suggested that he should retire to the main-top from where he might spot some curious birds. Right ahead, some wreckage had been spotted, and some of the crew where now exercising the chasers, running out the starboard nine pounder to fire at an empty barrel. This was a procedure they had done countless times, and they were already expert gunners, yet they never seemed to tire from the joy of the great guns firing and hitting true to their mark. On the fore top-gallant yard, a midshipman and a seamen were in the progress of shaking out the last reef in the top-gallant as the wind had dropped slightly, and Cooke believed she would carry it. The HMHV Athena is a snow-rigged sloop-of-war, formerly of the Royal Navy. Originally built in Oleon, but captured at the onset of the last war, she had been Cooke's first independent command and allowed him a small fortune in prize money, as well as several chances to distinguish himself as an enterprising commander, none of which he had passed over. However, during the peace, the Athena had been sold out of the service and Cooke set ashore on half pay. Recently, Montoya had inherited a considerable sum and purchased the Athena, and had now outfitted her for an expedition to the new world. The crown had caught news of this expedition and offered its support, assigning a contingent of Royal Marines, protection from impressment of its crew, and access to ports and supplies, in return for claim to any land discovered. Therefore, the Athena now carried the designation HMHV: Her Majesty's Hired Vessel. She is armed with four 18 pounder carronades per broadside and four long bronze nines for chasers. The long range chasers enable her to harass an enemy from afar with swift and accurate fire during a chase, often allowing her to take weaker enemies, or escape from stronger, without significant damage. And while the carronades are ineffective in long range engagements, they give her the punch of a much larger vessel, if she manages to close with the enemy. Cooke had recently received orders from the Crown, which was the reason for all this cracking on. Not only had his appointment as military governor of King's Harbour been confirmed, but he had also been appointed Military Commander for Cocovia. A rank in navy terms comparable to commodore, and only in very few cases bestowed upon a mere commander, not yet even of post-rank yet. It should be of no surprise that Cooke was both excited and nervous to do a good job. This might well be his best chance for a promotion to post-captain, and perhaps the command of a frigate he had always seen as the pinnacle of naval enterprise. Currently, this new command included only a few forts, a gunboatand the HMHV Athena, plus whatever the mayor of Quinnsville had at his disposition, but his orders had also told him that a mixed battalion of cavalry and infantry was despatched for Cocovia. Therefore, the Athena was stretching out towards the East-coast of Cocovia and Quinnsvilleto discuss military dispositions with Sir Thomas Smaugton, the mayor of the settlement, and to get at better insight in the tactical situation there. At the same time, he would circumnavigate Cocovia to survey all possible landing sites and vantage points, as they may prove to be of tactical importance at a later time. _____________________________________________ Thanks for looking and reading - I hope you enjoyed it - I am quite happy with how this vessel came out, but C&C is always welcome - I would like my next one to be even better. The pictures are a bit potato, but they were taken in the rush of pacing everything up and moving out. I would have preferred a better background and I struggled abit with the sunlight, but I hope you can still enjoy the moc. There are a few more detail and overview shots in flickr. While the landsman might take her for a brig, she is actually snow-rigged, due to the small trysail-mast just abaft the mainmast. I think the Athena is best fitting for a 4A, but thoughts on this is welcome too. I am not going to license her for quite some time, as I will be using her for story purposes, rather than risk losing her in the MRCA. Plus, having her sail around wouldn't fit with my story.
  25. Micah arrived at the family estate in Wolfhaven a week after the funeral. It was good to spend time with the family. However, there was also the business of settling the estate and his father's will. A week later on the third of April, the family made a trip to the office of Lord Mark Crawford, Esq. There the official last will and testament would be read and any details would be settled. The reading of the will was an emotional time for all. However, the estate was divided much like it had been expected. Alexander II received the main estates in Wolfhaven and the banked money with the commission that he would look after their mother during her widowhood. Rebekah was willed a small hunting property north of Belson. Micah was willed all the horse business including all the ranches, offices, and blacksmith shops. Now that Micah was the owner of the business he had been managing and learning for the last several years, he has decided to create a new company. This company would be a partnership between him and his expedition partners. This would enable them fund their expeditions using the businesses they already have and all the income they would earn in the future. He asked Lord Crawford to draw up a business contract that his partners could examine and sign back in Arlinsport. The name picked for this new company was Wolf's Equine, Trading, and Expedition Company. Here is the backstory. Critique and compliments are welcome.
