  1. I find models that walk, run and jump interesting. This MOC moves forward by jumping. It gets all four legs off the ground. I call this "I need more springs bot"
  2. My new MOC is probably the weirdest Lego Technic car (I) ever uploaded- it is made to be invisible and to work autonomously. Its use case is based on the fact that at a party, you never really get the snack you want without interrupting talks of others. My solution is a small robot that follows the edge of the snack table while carrying the snack tray(s). That is where the name comes from, it 'races trays' around the table and I liked the software-origined word 'Raytracer' a lot. For the same reason why a car exists with the name 'Interceptor'. I have done some exploring in this area, a few years ago TrayRacer 1.0 was published. But it could only follow rounded tables. And that got me thinking: can you build a Lego Thing that is able to understand when there's a corner coming up? The first answer was 'no'. It was never done before and I couldn't think of any way. The second answer was 'Well, for the intended size, you will need a mechanical sensor and a mechanical 'brain' that is able to translate the 'mechanical sensor data' into 'Let's start a steering action NOW'. That's a lot of quotes, how to convert this into hard plastic bricks? After a lot of thinking, tinkering and tuning TrayRacer 2.0 was born. It is really hard when you throw the remote out of the door, to make the robot think for itself without using the convenient Mindstorms sensors. TrayRacer 2.0 uses only a single PF M motor and is full mechanic Lego Technic. There's an important reason why I only used an M-motor: power consumption. A nice robot system with a lot of sensors and actuators will be always empty as the testing is done and the party is starting. A simple rechargeable battery box with a PF M motor is small and reliable. I added PF navigation lights because it looks good in the dark, which looks good on the party. The new TrayRacer 2.0 is 4 studs high, exposing the 4-stud batterybox as a load on the back. This had to be accepted as I needed the speed control: you HAVE to be able to set the 'feeding speed' on parties otherwise people eat way too much. In other cases, maybe an old battery would have been a solution. [As a sidenote: with the new Lego Technic electronic systems coming up, I don't see battery boxes and motors becoming any smaller. This is a bad development that TLG should be aware of. ] High quality photos (Brickshelf files not yet public, so direct links:) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 The video explains it all: The deep technical details- a dynamic system Usually, 'mechanical sensor data' is fed into a clutch/driving ring or a differential, which means the device using the data also influences it. The 'mechanical imput impedance' is too low (This robot is built using mostly electronic engineering concepts..). In the RayTracer 2.0, this effect is visible in the sensor wheel. It takes some effort to shift the driving ring, which means the rubber band needs to be stronger. As said in the video, the sensor wheel needs to be pressed to the RIGHT (so robot pressed LEFT) for straight driving, which is harder when the rubber band is stronger. Because the robot is very light (lithium battery, no big electric components) a stronger rubber band means it needs to push harder to the LEFT, which is only possible when its rotational inertia is higher, so then it needs to be heavier. But weight kills power consumption. A lower weight causes oscillations, as the robot slams to the left using its inertia after a succesful steering action - enabling straight driving- , then the rubber band springs back because the robot is not able to press hard enough to the left continuously- enabling the left wheel brake again-. When the rubber band is too strong, it oscillates forever, when it is just a little too strong, the robot is designed to reach a stable orientation in a few oscillations. In the video this effect is sometimes visible, you can see different dynamics with its bodywork removed! Also, as you can see, the sensor wheel is on a long lever. The lever enables tuning of the force needed to press it to the RIGHT, thus for tuning it together with the rubber band system. To summarize: because the 'mechanical information' is influenced by its 'processor', there is a fine optimum in rubber band strenght vs sensor wheel lever length vs overall robot weight. For this reason, I could give you instructions, but there's no guarantee that any reproduction would work. Any axle that is a tiny little bent, any driving ring with some small damage, even the friction of individual pins, these are all factors that influence the final tuning and need to be optimized. Instructionless building with Lego Technic is not only a unique combination of parts, it's also the way it's built and tuned that makes it a final product. Some quick photos:

Yes! this my 3rd rendition of LEGO Snapdragon since the very first one made I about 15 years ago (when I first rekindled my passion with LEGO as an adult) VERSION 1 (2004) Back then most of the parts I used came from LEGO sets so I just make do with whatever colors I had. VERSION 3 (2019) What meant to be a quick 1 week project , dragged on to about 2 weeks: My overzealousness got the better of me.   4. This mini robot can transform into a big fighter jet. The fighter jet is half as big again as the its robot mode. It has 4 cannons on his arms and legs. The cannons' color is gray. So, that's why it's called 'Gray cannon'. in this video you can also see how I take a film for a stop motion transformation scene.

It is an art ========== Actually this guy was never in my to-built list.. but since this is "year of triple changers" for me, and Apeface is sort of a low-hanging fruit compared to other triple changers when it comes to complexity, I give that a shot. Compared to the original G1 Apeface.. some compromises must be made in the form of a different-looking jet mode. Hope you guys like my rendition! The ball joints used for the gorilla rear legs are too weak to hold his body up. So he can't stand upright . With LEGO Snapdragon I rebuilt few months earlier. (He's not a Headmaster though).   6. Good day everyone! Here is my newest MOC. As you may know, there is a company in Paris, called Blue Frog Robotics. They are the inventors and developers of BUDDY the Robot - domestic robot, that can express emotions. So, with their permission, I've created this lego-copy of BUDDY. With full spectre of emotions, that lego bricks are able to show! Because of license troubles I've put my COG logo on robot's chest instead of their own. My BUDDY is full RC. Driving, skid-steering, and full control over all head and face movements. Its construction is very simple. Just a load of wormgears and actuators. There is not so much to show through photos, so I recommend you to watch the video: Please, watch till the end. I added something like a teaser for tomorrow's annual Halloween Special!     This is my first bad guy character. I think its back looks really cool. How about you? :) I used red, black and blue colors to make it look stronger than previous robots. First of all it can transform into flight vehicle. The vehicle has 2 of forms - normal and hyper mode. And it can transform into marine vehicle also. Check this video to more detailed information!
  9. Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt is the first Gundam series, the first anime series, in a long-time, that I really like. I don't hate anime. I only hate 95% of it, but that other 5%, I absolutely adore. Here's a LEGO model depicting the MS-06R High-Mobility Type Zaku II (Psycho Zaku) from Gundam Thunderbolt. Isn't that a mouthful? I'm about 80% sure 80% of this will work in real-life, and am Bricklinking like mad to compile the bricks and elements for it (almost two-dozen Bricklink orders already). For me, LEGO Digital Designer makes it easier to go through the iterative, refining design process, so I start nearly all my models with it. Here's a progression of a few iterations: I came back to LEGO after a 27-year-long Dark Age, so I don't have a life-time supply to brick with which to play and experiment. I absolutely rely on LDD to help me build, since I don't have a lot of inventory. I usually try to make bookshelf-sized models, hand-sized models. That's the sweet spot for me, a size that allows for nice scale detail and proportions, but not so large that it stresses the LEGO building elements and costs an arm and a leg to make. This one's going to bigger than usual, maybe a foot-and-a-half tall (45 cm). In most of my builds, I can identify an "enabling" piece, that crucial part, from which everything else is scaled or built upon. For example, for these S.P.E.E.D.E.R. bikes, it's the mini-fig helmets. For this Zaku model, it's the pearl gold fez used for the small rocket thrusters. There's almost 50 of those rocket thrusters on this Psycho Zaku! Is it just be me, or do you also read "Psycho Zaku" aloud with a dramatically lowered voice? Try it, "PSYCHO ZAKU!" I plan to make stickers for this model, too. I'm not going to try to replicate all the markings, just the big ones like the "96" on the right shoulder and right toe, and the Zeon insignias on the chest and right shoulder armor. I think the model would look better in dark red, rather than bright red, but not all the requisite pieces are available in dark red, particularly the new 2x2 wedge plates used in sides of the feet that suggest a boot heel.

  14. This transformer robot's name is White Astronaut. Because the robot mode looks like astronaut. :) This mini robot is a triple changer transformer. It could change into a fighter jet and a monster.
  15. This is a LEGO Transformer robot which is able to change into Mini Combat Robot and Combat Helicopter. I spent much more time than the others to make the stop motion animation in this video. I wanted to take a scene of flying helicopter and I tried it actually. But I failed to many times and I had to give up. :( Anyway, my favorite part of this video is the rolling and transforming scene. Don't miss it!
  16. Broadside is one of my favorite triple changers ever since I set my eyes on his G1 toy photo decades ago. I had a chance to acquire Chinese KO version of him many years ago (bundled together with a few KO combiner limbs) but sadly missed out on it. So I never owned / played with this toy to understand his notoriety as a brick-former in the TF fandom. Anyway... 9 years ago I attempted LEGO Broadside version 1 (below) . VERSION 1 As you can see... the ship mode looks fat and the plane mode has saggy wings. duh! VERSION 2 Few months ago I started this v2 project after I saw a photo of Macross Valkyrie in my FB feed . That's an eureka moment where I kinda got the transformation to jet mode figured out. From there , I took a few breaks in between to retreat, rethink and redo it to get the right shaping in both his alt modes. Inspired by USS Nimitz, the back of the ship mode must be symmetrical to provide more mass to form robot legs, unlike an actual ship show above . Compared to v1, the ship mode v2 here is missing armaments on the deck. This is a nod to G1 Broadside's bio about "his vulnerability in ship mode and the need to rely on his passengers to protect him." USS Titanic is a Transformer too :) One of the transformation step: fold the ship deck to form the jet mode's rear. JET MODE Jet mode was inspired by F-14 Tomcat. Since the ship mode is long, this causes the halved deck to form pretty long wings for the jet. ROBOT MODE! In the actual G1 toy of Broadside, he's equipped with an Axe and also a gun. Here, I've decided to integrate them both as a single weapon (Axe turning to gun)... and it's named Hull-Raiser. :) When not on active duty, he tend to his farm and crops.   18. About this LEGO Creation This took me about 2 weeks to complete.. with large part of the time without a confirmed color scheme (I usually prototyped with random colored LEGO parts) .   19. As the title suggest, Titanicus transforms into RMS Titanic ,the tragic ship that sank more than 100 years ago. The length:width ratio of the ship is about 10:1 ... so I've decided to use a LEGO scale of 38 :4 studs to build this. Actually I really enjoyed "sculpting" the front and rear hull of the ship. They took me many iterations before I am finally satisfied. One man's (lego) flower is another man's propeller I'd say! One of the final additions to the ship were the masts at the front and back. This required me to redesign the robot arms to accomodate these masts. STORY TIME! How's the Ice-breaker mode? Looks pretty cool eh despite being an "after-thought". Since the ship is only 4-studs wide... and 2 studs were allocated to form the hull/side panels... I'm left with 2-studs thickness to work with when it comes to designing the inner core /structure of the robot mode. Reinforcing the core requires me to slide a Technic axle inside the core as a backbone (think Kebab). *Ship funnels played important roles in padding up the hollowness of the shoulder. 2 of them helps to hold the back kibble in place ,preventing it from drooping. *funny though . Earlier in this project, I started building the funnels short and stumpy coz they kept getting in the way during transformation. After I redesign the transformation method, those funnels become helpful. Standing at a height of 3 feet tall, weighing in at less than a pile of Skag. Holding a mixed programming of combat Action skills. The current reigning 'Interplanetary Ninja Assassin' champion. Fighting out of the hostile streets of Fyrestone, Pandora. It's your bro-bot... BR4W-LR! BR4W-LR; a claptrap inspired by 'Borderlands 3'. An entry for RoboRumble 3000. A fun little build featuring; a moveable eye (can look around in all directions), turnable wheel (lean back & forth + twist sideways to a certain degree), moveable arms (detachable boxing gloves to facilitate regular hands/claws) and a modest baseplate to keep him upright.
