1. "So here we are," one minstrel hissed to another. "Look at it! Are we in Nocturnus, or Kaliphlin?" "I know - two Nocturnian flags to every one Kaliphlinian!" Then the second speaker continued in a louder tone, "Here we are boys! The city of cities, capitol for the majestic, the glorious, Desert King!" The rest of the gang broke out in confused murmurs of admiration. "How well the citizens around here fare!" one of the minstrels continued, in a show voice. "Without a doubt, the city of the Desert King is the city to be in!" The small crowd that had gathered around the band nodded their approval. Behind them, however, a Desert King guard pushed is way over with a scowling face. "Hold it there," he growled. "We don't need none of your flattery. Get back to whatever place you came from. We have our own victory parade and don't need any help!" The minstrel who was evidently the leader ignored the guard and turned towards his comrades. "You hear that! A victory parade! Boy are we in luck! Just in time to sing the praises of the glorious Desert King all throughout town! Man, I hate to think what the parade might have been like if we had gotten here too late! This is just perfect!" "Hold it right there, I say again! You're not getting in no parade. You're not getting in no city!" "What?!" the head minstrel exclaimed in fake astonishment. "You refuse our beautiful music? Straight from the halls of Petraea University, I assure you. Here boys, lets give 'em a line," he added, nodding toward the growing crowd. And without further ado, the entire band struck up with an impressive cacophony that could be heard for miles! At the end of their brief performance, the crowd cheered wildly. Reluctantly, the guard yielded to the people's wishes and let the minstrels through. Another close-up: A view around the back: Comments are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
2. Things got a little hectic as everyone and their dog tried to get a hand on the "Thing". But as usual, Ulandus came out on top! "This was NOT what I signed up for!" "I can reach... I can almost reach!" This was pretty fun, much easier to do the second time around - I remember having all kinds of trouble last time I tried this sort of balancing act. To be sure, it was only on one stud then, which I dare say made it even more complicated. Anyhow, the end result of this made me happy! Comments are appreciated!
3. As Xersia (some random city that was apparently attacked by the DK) burns and falls to the Desert King forces some of the Ulandian officers and wealthy citizens try to escape by sea, leaving behind their allies in a mad rush to esape to the next square. Unfortunately for them the Desert King had been expecting this and ships were stationed outside of the harbor to hunt down the fleeing Ulandians. Also the water shifts from dark to light but its hard to see There is also kind of a street system in the city( light bley= roads) but Its only really visible in a birds eye view C and C appreciated EDIT: I guess this has to be moved so now it will be at M18, not O18
4. "The Day the Music Died" The moment delegates from different parts of Kaliphlin were arriving with specialties for the gala diner, a group of terrorists had stormed forward shouting something like "Four You Land Us" and "Four Kai and Flin", which nobody understood. These armed lunatics had to be taken care of. The Desert King's sorceresses acted swiftly and ruthlessly. Cleotete created a shining blue shield of protection around the king while killing the first assassin with magical fire. Simultaneously Nofrepatra, the enchantress, stopped an attacker with a frightening blast of blue magical power. Al Giwemm Fahia appeared with his famous three-prong staff of flames and set the third assassin's crossbow on fire. Within a second an Ostrich Archer took care of the evil dwarf. The malicious plan had failed. Let's hear it for Al Giwemm Fahia... and Cleotete... as well as Nofrepatra and the brave Ostrich Archer The hideous assassin fell from the wall to his death soon after this magical picture had been taken: The guests arriving: This is a counter attack to [GA:B12 U vs. DK] The orchestra of Sultan's Gate @marcu22: Nice building style!

[WZ18] The Fall of Eastgate

The Desert King has taken Eastgate! After a combined attack (unique in Kaliphlin's history) of air, ground and naval forces, the city has surrendered. The ground forces (supported by heavy catapults and ballista) were attacking from the North, breaking out of the Witherwoods. DK ships came from the sea and attacked the city where the red river waters mingle with the clear blue water coming in from the ocean. Finally the bombardment carried out by the Royal Flying Carpet Corps (RFCC) broke the resistance of the defenders. This is the aerial perspective: The "Guardian" took severe damage: Most of the city was saved from ruin as the attack had been quick and swift. Victory once more fell to the Desert King! C&C welcome.
6. Glad to see this warzone revisited! After Arcannon Cresentthorn pledged his support to the High Council to help battle the Desert King, High Council forces set to rounding up Arcannon's brother's supporters in the Wither Woods. The first traitorous elf hit the ground hard but the second managed to hang on to the line for a few seconds. It didn't matter though as they were both restrained and marched off to Arcannon's camp for questioning. More on Flickr, C&C appreciated!

The City of Katoren

My finished collab with LittleJohn. This is our largest build to date, with a base size of 66x98, and weighing in at 30.2 pounds. There are 70 minifigures in the city, including quite a few familiar sigfigs, see how many you can spot We constructed it over a 6 week period. Every building has a full interior, and every floor is accesible via stairs or ladder. There are four moving features: the windmill, the potter's wheel, the hidden trapdoor in the city hall, and the bell; see them in action here: The city buildings include: windmill, tower, gatehouse, potter's shop, tailor's shop, city hall, noble's house, palace guesthouse, and palace. Windmill module: link Gatehouse module: link Market module: link City hall module: link Gardens module: link Palace module: link The city of Katoren is growing quickly and has already become a prominent city in Kaliphlin. It is well known for it's thriving marketplace, and elegant palace. See lots more pictures here: link Well we hope you've enjoyed our efforts, we certainly had fun creating this slice of Katoren
8. Hooray! Desert King troops have managed to destroy the source of power of the First Centurion! In a fierce battle the defenders were defeated: A large part of the battle raged in the garden of the Celestial Palace: The brave DK fighters (supported by Mounted Ostrich Bowmen) were excited about their victory. The defenders (dis-)appeared in the usual way... Key to the victory was ... ... the Desert King's fire mage ... ... who destroyed the artefact of the First Centurion with his magic flame thrower . The magic monument, that had been beaming with yellow thaumaturgical energy, came crashing down in flames. When its magic died, a loud, unearthly scream was heard through the gardens of the palace... C&C welcome.
9. I guess this is the fourth in this series: Garmadon's guerrilla (entering Ras-El-Akhen) marcu22's guerrilla (attempting sabatage) Bergier's counter to marcu22 (captured!) and now my counter to Garmadon: After their capture at the gate, Cedric and his pal were given prisoner of war status. As part of their detention, they’re responsible for taking care of the Ras-El-Akhen pigpen. As Cedric cleans out the pen, a High Council captain inspects the Ulandan armor. He's less than impressed. C&C welcome! For the Republic!
10. With Ageven off in Qarkyr, the few inhabitants of Auner were left to scratch their heads and wonder what best to do to fend off the immanent threat posed by the Desert King. So they decided to put their heads together... and what better rendezvous then the settlement's inn? The other side: You haven't seen half of it yet though... this inn actually opens! The interior is fully playable! A close-up shot: So the inhabitants spent a few hours brainstorming together, and they quickly decided that obviously, the thing to do was to get rid of the DK tax collectors! And just how would they do that? That's Garmadon's business! Inspired in part by soccerkid's recent opening castle. This was really a lot of fun to build, especially the yellow roof. It fits together very nicely and is remarkably sturdy - for me. You didn't think I would give up my home town without a fight, I hope? C&C appreciated!
11. A couple of DK soldiers planned to entrench themselves admidst the crops of the 'loop', but their desire was anticipated by the Ulandians! A better view of my tomato patch! Without the soldiers: Credit goes to Garmadon for the initial reed design.
12. We all know Garmadon has a massive army marching around, but just in case, Ageven imported along a rare species of dragon, called a Peliger. Sure, his last experiment with Wild Shag-bulls didn't work quite as well as hoped, but this one is taking things to a whole other level! My first dragon... also my first time experimenting with a color background. Speaking of which, I should find something a little bigger than a shirt. Another picture! And a shot of the rider! C&C welcome! As I mentioned, this is my first attempt at dragon-building, so I hope it turned out alright!
13. Hereby my build for war zone 15: The battle for Amrakect. Should I win, C6 should be the next war zone. It had been a long march since the desperate battle of Queenscross. Circumstances had forced Beorthan to lead his unit, now bolstered by a group of beastmen, out of the city before the outcome of the battle was clear. However, judging by the overwhelming forces thrown into it by the socalled Desert King, Queenscross would be lost. While their own skirmishes had been succesful, and seen many a mummy and goblin slain, they could not quite shake the feeling of defeat from their hearts, as their legs grew weary and Amrakect appeared on the horizon. Already, smoke was rising from the farmsteads and villages surrounding the city, obviously the result of Desert King troops approaching. After entering the city, Beorthan bade his unit to halt for a final rest, before again joining the frey, defending the city. He looked around at his unit and saw the rugged, ready-for-anything expressions you only see on veterans tired of war, but still set to defend their cause. "Will there ever be an end to war?" he thought to himself, before standing up before this troops, clearing his throat. "Even though large tracts of Kaliphlin and many old and famous cities have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Desert King and all the odious apparatus of his depotic rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in the desert, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength. We shall defend every grain of sand, whatever the cost may be..." "...We shall fight at the gates..." "...we shall fight in the streets and in the alleys..." "...we shall fight on the rooftops..." "We shall never surrender, and if, which I do not for a moment believe, Kaliphlin or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then the Guilds beyond the borders, armed and guarded by the brave men and women, would carry on the struggle, until, in Gods' good time, Historica, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the people of Kaliphlin." Pausing for a moment, Beorthan looked around at his troops, all with determined smiles upon the their faces. "FOR THE REPUBLIC! FOR THE PEOPLE!" ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ OOC: First of all, credits go to Winston Churchill for a slightly paraphrased speech. I have tried to emulate Erynlasgalen's style in the corner towers walltexturing, and in the city wall, while still adding something new. (Further, I have taken some inspiration from some of LittleJohn's brilliant Katoren builds. ) I rather like these builds with narrow passageways, but it is a real pain to photograph, which is why I have a included the first picture, where the wall is removed. Hope I have succeeded in presenting the build reasonably well. There are a few extra pictures on my flickr. C&C is always welcome

Katoren Gardens

My last module for a large collab with soccerkid6. The Katoren Gardens are well known throughout Kaliphlin, and have many different kinds of flowers. Sir Glorfindel is currently staying at the guesthouse there: More pictures can be seen here: Link C&C much appreciated

[GA: DK vs. HC, B3] Set Them Free

A small troop of DK Mounted Ostrich Bowmen were able to ambush High Council troops that were guarding prisoners of war: The prisoners - rarely-seen monkey-ish beings from some stranger parts of Kaliphlin - were released and happy! The surprise of the HC men was so complete that no fighting was necessary. View from above: (... and this time I did not forget the palm tree...) ... another week, another GA made and the world goes round .... C&C welcome!
16. Please note: only two of these builds (the two on the right) are actually entries! The other two are for story purposes only. Like all long days, this one was about a girl. Lat've had been favorably impressed with Philici right from the start, and there could be no doubt that the fact that she was a landed heiress and ruler of a fairly nice if slightly rundown city had provided a nice incentive. The more Lat've thought about it, the better it seemed. He wasn't really in love, he thought, but then, he didn't actually believe in that sort of mumbo-jumbo anyways and he did like the intelligent, vivacious girl well enough. He swirled the cup of morning coffee he held and yawned as he reclined in his chair. Standing up restlessly, he glanced out the window. He was guest in one of Philici's palaces at the moment, and the view afforded out his large window was quite a breathtaking one. A servant entered with his breakfast - a nice cut of ham and a few fresh eggs. "I could get used to this!" he muttered, attacking the viands. Presently he heard the sounds of a scuffle in the hallway. He pushed the tray away and stood up, intending to go see what the matter was. But before he could move, his door flew open. Lat've almost dropped his coffee. He turned to reach for his sword, but with an unearthly chuckle the Desert King partisan grabbed him tightly, pressing his own sword blade against Lat've's throat and chest. "Were you going anywhere?" he asked menacingly. "Quick!" the other mummy exclaimed. "The soldiers will realize we've broken in any minute now!" "Right! Tie him up and let's get out of here!" "Where are you taking me? You won't get away with this! Philici's soldiers aren't ones to sit around in their barracks!" "Maybe not, but Philici's soldiers are said to be very obedient. I guess we'll see if we can't put that to the test!" And without wasting more words, the mummies hustled Lat've away from the comfortable room. Lat've struggled fiercely with his captors, but it was no use; they were armed and he was not. After a brief wrestling match they pinned him on the ground with a sword to his throat and proceeded to tie him up and blindfold him. Then they led him away. At last Lat've felt that they had reached their destination. In front of him he touched a pair of hard metal bars, and behind him he heard a snap as another pair clicked into place. Nervously he turned around, stretching out his arms as best as he could with them tied behind his back, until he was sure he was in a tiny cage that barely allowed him to stand upright. Suddenly Lat've shuddered. With a nerve racking feeling of dread he held his breath. The cage was moving! He grabbed the iron bars behind him and held on. From somewhere in the darkness came a brutal laugh. Lat've clinched his teeth. What was happening? Where was he going? "Would you like to see where you are?" sneered a voice. The blindfold disappeared from Lat've's eyes as if by magic and he looked up just in time to see a mummy soldier jump off his cage and onto a neighboring platform. Then he looked down and watched the blindfold fall through the bars on the bottom of his cage, burning up into nothingness in the lava below. He gasped, reeling backwards and leaning against the cage's iron bars. From the platform behind him he heard the same brutal laugh. His courage returned. He looked up at his tormentors with a proud, defiant glance. The man ignored him. Instead, he stared at something - or someone - stationed at another post on the opposite side of the pit. "Well?" he drawled. "Have you made up your mind?" Lat've froze. Who was it that held his life in the balance? The seconds seemed hours. Lat've felt that prickly sensation that told him someone was looking at him. He had to force himself to turn around. He was afraid to look up. Oh! His heart jumped into his throat, he staggered backwards and would have fallen if it hadn't been for the bars of his tiny cage. For it was Philici herself who, with guards on either side of her glared at him with anguish in her eyes, her hands gripping the railing until her knuckles turned white. "What am I to do?!" she moaned. "What am I to do?" "You know your options well enough, lady," said the same coarse voice. Lat've shuddered and looked again at this human monster. "Agree to marry me, and support the Desert King, or see him" - he nodded toward Lat've - "drowned in the hottest pool of lava in Kaliphlin! Should you choose the latter," he added graciously, with a sort of half bow, "we are authorized by the benevolent Desert King to promise that your person and realm will be held inviolable and you will be free to depart and leave your city to whichever side you choose. But surely, you would far rather sacrifice yourself than let this honorable gentleman roast at our pleasure?" Lat've was horrified. He glanced back at Philici, who was still staring at him, looking like she hadn't heard a word the Desert King's man had said. "What shall I do?" she repeated. "That is an easy question to answer, lady Philici," Lat've said boldly. "What am I to you? Let me go, and whatever else happens, do not let the Desert King take over your city!" "Oh! I cannot," Philici exclaimed. She turned and buried her face in her hands. "Let me go!" Lat've exclaimed again. For one agonizing moment all was silent. Then Philici raised her head. "Have you chosen?" Lat've's captor asked. "I will not marry you, and I will never support the Desert King!" she said firmly, her eyes flashing. "So be it!" The man nodded toward the executioner, who stepped forward, swinging his sword, ready with a single stroke to sever the cord that kept Lat've's cage out of the hungry lava below. Lat've grabbed the bars on top of his cage, in a desperate attempt to postpone the inevitable. He glared at the mummy who impassively allowed his sword to continue its fatal downward swing. He ground his teeth together and clenched his fists. At least he would die like a brave man! All of the sudden, out of nowhere, a big, brawny man wearing a uniform that proclaimed him to be a High Council partisan appeared on the platform, grasping the mummy's neck by one hand and holding him out over the lava like a rag-doll. "Just in time as usual, I see!" he exclaimed, in a deep, gruff voice. The Desert King's man was flabbergasted. "Get him!" he cried. The High Councillor contemptuously tossed the mummy in the face of his employer. With the utmost difficulty the pair prevented themselves from spinning off the platform. Then he jumped on to the top of Lat've's cage, and followed up with a spring on to the platform on which Philici was still standing. He quickly routed the guards around her. "I have come to save you," he said gallantly, with a half bow. "What more can I do?" "Get him out of there!" replied Pilici, rousing herself and pointing to Lat've. The chivalrous gentleman did not seem too pleased with this order, but nevertheless complied. Lat've and he stood contemplating each other for a few seconds. Philici threw up her hands in despair. "Oh, will it never end?!" "A truce at least, until we are out of this place," said Lat've. His rival nodded agreement. No sooner were they safely gone then Philici said firmly, "You two obviously have something to settle between you. I don't see much point in putting it off." "On the contrary, lady, it is you who have to settle between us," replied the High Councillor. "Then I choose Lat've," Philici said proudly - adding, with a glance at Lat've, "anything to escape him, you know." Lat've was not sure how to interpret this last remark, but he held his peace. The High Councillor's eyes flashed lightning. Suddenly he whistled, and a small group of soldiers appeared and surrounded Philici. Lat've, still unarmed, rushed at them, but was stopped by the brawny head soldier. "Hold it right there," he commanded grimly. "I promise you satisfaction as soon as we get to a decent place!" "I hold you to that!" returned Lat've. "Follow me then, and send one of these men to fetch your sword." Lat've did as he was told. "Here we are," his captor announced presently. "Choose your corner." Lat've chose, and then a soldier came up and handed him his sword. He tested the blade over his knee, making sure it was the same one. Then he turned round to face his opponent, and in doing so noticed Philici behind bars in a third corner. She said nothing, but her looks clearly showed her anxiety as to the outcome. Lat've turned and prepared himself to face his opponent. From somewhere in the audience a voice cried, "Let them go! Let them go! Let them go and do battle!" At the third cry both combatants swung their blades and rushed towards each other. The swords clashed and clanged as each combatant strove to gain an advantage. Both were well matched, but gradually it became clear that while the High Councillor had the brute strength, Lat've had the technique. At last Lat've, with a powerful stroke, knocked his opponent's sword from his hand. A roar of excitement went up from the crowd. "By the rules of chivalry," Lat've said, "I've won!" "Booo!" The High Council soldiers hissed and hooted. Lat've saw that the situation was quickly getting out of control. He glanced around. It wouldn't be hard to get out the same way he came in, but what about Philici? He looked at her, and she seemed to have read his thoughts. "Quick!" she whispered. "This wood isn't very tough!" Lat've grasped his sword and gave the cage a few powerful blows, freeing Philici. "Don't let them get away!" cried the commander. "Run!" Lat've shouted to Philici. He spun around just in time to deflect the blow aimed at him. Then he sprang through the narrow passageway. After a few quick turns, he and Philici lost their pursuers in the maze of streets. "Where on earth are we?" Philici asked, as they paused in front of a short wall, under the shade of an overhanging bough. "I have no idea," Lat've replied, mechanically thrusting his hand into his pocket. He felt around, not really sure what he was trying to find. Suddenly his fingers touched something cold and round, and with a mental start he remembered that just that morning he had been thinking about asking Philici to marry him. Well, after all they had been through, it would be the appropriate end to the day, and after all, the worst she could do was say no. At least there wouldn't be as much drama in his case as in the last two! But as it turned out, she said yes - much to Lat've's relief as he wasn't interested in any more long days on a girl's account! A few more shots: Comments are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
17. Furious at the treachery of the traders of Qarkyr, Ageven had been in the front ranks of the Ulandian plotters, doing his best to get the town to give it's allegiance where it's allegiance belonged! Not too surprisingly, this brought him a lot of rather undesired attention from the ruthless bands of marauding Desert King supporters... so he decided to use that to his advantage! ... ...and led them right into a trap! Complete with oil covered stairs, angry citizens, and wheels ready to fall on their heads... wait, what?! Comments are welcome! I had a good deal of trouble sticking all those houses on the tiny footprint - I know I didn't come close to maxing out but I was pressed for time... you'll see why when I upload my next build in a few minutes! Anyhow, I was pretty happy with the way most of it turned out, especially the gold street and rug doorway!
18. Ageven and a band of Ulandians blockade the oil road, stopping the High Council's supply train. "Here they come!" one of the men exclaimed. And indeed, they came. As far as the eye could see, transport upon transport! The Ulandians rubbed their hands in gleeful anticipation. A shot of just the road... I tried to give it a bit of a forced perspective vibe. Overview of the entire 16x32, sans figs and wagons as those require a specific angle otherwise the FP ends up all messed up! And last but not least, the three miniature wagons! Comments are welcome, I had a good deal of fun with this build, especially with all the little wagons! Thanks for taking a look! If I were to happen to win, I choose H6.
19. A counter to LordDan's attack at L1 The civilian carrying the weapons slipped on the edge of the dock and fell into the river, as he fell, the weapons dropped out of his hands and floated away: Any C&C welcome

Katoren Market

A free build for Guilds of Historica. This is my second module for a large collab build with LittleJohn. The tailor and potter's were interesting challenges, being much different than my normal style of buildings. It was fun experimenting with some brighter colors as well. The potter's wheel actually works, and can be seen in action here: link Katoren's marketplace offers a large variety of goods, and is generally quite crowded. More pictures, here: link All C&C welcome, and we've still got more of Katoren coming

Katoren Windmill

The first module in my collab with soccerkid6. The windmill actually works, not only do the blades turn, but a grindstone is operated as well. You can see a video of it here: Link A miller operates his mill just outside Katoren's walls: The Interior: More pictures can be seen here: Link All C&C apreciated
22. There are many tombs scattered high in the Rakath Mountains. The Desert King has been drawing his strength by waking the ancient hibernating mummies. As a preemptive action small teams supporting the Kaliphlin High Council have been raiding these tombs to destroy as many of these powerful warriors and sorcerers as possible before they rise. The High Council guerrillas discovered quickly that fire extremely effective for eliminating the bone-dry mummies. More on Flickr. C&C appreciated.
23. A brave citizen of Esterbroke transports supplies sent by the Desert King to help the people of Esterbroke fight to free the island from the grip of the High Council, so that they may be reunited with their Avalonian brethren as citizens of Avalonia when the Desert King rules. EDIT: For countering all these fit onto 8 X 16 with a tiny overhang( so it could be 9X17 if you really want) C & C appreciated
24. I finally grew a Masa Palm--woohoo! Perhaps in retrospect, attempting to capture the fertile Great Loop was an error by the Desert King. More than one of his mummies died simply from falling into the river and the rice paddies. But when the High Council arrived to aid the Ulandans, there was no quarter given to the Desert King's forces. Reports from the scribes tell tales of mummy warriors willingly jumping to their deaths by water rather than be dealt with by Skullcrusher and his well used--and legendary--steel club. Skullcrusher on the warpath. Educating mummies by beating their heads in since the rise of the Desert King. A few more on Flickr.
25. A slow, warm, desert breeze floated past Adira's face, bringing a hint of the smell of the river with it. She inhaled deeply, letting the dank smell linger in her nose. Almost like the smell that hangs so thickly in the Nestlands... Opening her eyes, Adira surveyed the work site in front of her. Not very far, seeing what terrible selection of tools we have, but they should be done with the barricade by the time the Desert King forces arrive. “Captain, requesting permission to allow the civilians a rest-bit and have the soldiers take over for a while.” Adira turned to see Lieutenant Sirhan at attention. She sighed. “No, Lieutenant, we can not afford to leave the site unguarded. With the soldiers working we would be much more open to attack.” “What do we have to fear? The Desert King forces are hours away.” Sirhan responded, annoyance showing clearly in his voice. A smile played at the corner of Adira's mouth. “The Unexpected.” There was a thud then a gurgling sound behind them. Adira spun around just in time to see their sentry, one of her Guerrillas, fall to the ground, an arrow embedded in his throat. There was a thudding of mail-clad feet on the dirt road and an inhuman shriek as a party of orcs rounded a curve in the road and charged toward them, shrieking their war-cries. Adira's thoughts flew out of her head as a burly orc wielding a large war-club charged her. She was barely able to draw her sword before he was upon her, his war club descending. She raised her blade, barely deflecting his, and retreated a few steps. Think! Remember your training! Adira fell into a swordsman's stance, her mind searching for the next step. He will attack forcefully and with momentum, use that against him. The orc charged again, slicing toward her head. Adira ducked and sliced toward the orc's leg. Her blade bit into flesh. Pressing her advantage, Adira got side stepped the orc's flailing war-club and scored another hit on his chest, bringing him down. Stepping forward she plunged her blade into his neck, bring his war-shrieks to an abrupt stop. Adira stood and glanced around her. One of the villagers was down, and Sirhan had decapitated one of the orcs. The rest of the workers were falling back in disarray, tossing down their tools. We need to form up, fast. Adira raised her voice above the clamor of the skirmish. “Form a line atop the barricade, are the workers!” The orcs were temporarily stymied by the losses they had been dealt, and fell back several yards, giving the High Council troops time to gather their forces. Adira made her way back to the mound of dirt that would have been a barricade, her mind racing. How did the Desert King forces get behind them? They must have crossed the river, but how did they get past the guard we set there? Adira saw one of her sergeants giving orders on the other side of the mound and strode over to him. “How are our chances, Sergeant?” The man removed his helmet a ran a wiped the sweat from his forehead. “With this rabble? Slight. If they can just hold the line against the Desert King charge, then we will be fine. Other then that, we're as good as dead.” Adira nodded toward the building to their left, some shrine or burial chamber. “What if they send a force around the other side of that? Do you think we could withstand a two-pronged attack?” “No.” The man said flatly. “In that case we would have to put our chances behind one charge.” The workers, with a large amount of orders from various sources, had finally formed a line on the top of the mound. Adira motioned for Udgr and he came after launching a few parting orders at the line of workers. “Udgr, I want you to watch the other side of this building, make sure we are not surprised on that side. You may have to hold them off until we can send reinforcements.” Udgr saluted. “It shall hold.” He turned and trotted off toward his position. There was a sudden commotion coming from the Desert King lines. Adira glanced toward them just as their lines parted, allowing a hooded Mummy in black armor to pass through, along with several other hooded men. The mummy surveyed their lines until his gaze rested on her, then it stopped. Adira felt a prickle of fear run up her spine. He's here for me... The mummy finally turned back to his men and motioned for some of them to move around the building. Adira was about to send someone to warn Udgr when the mummy raised his sword... then let it fall. The orcs and Desert King soldiers charged like a body of water bursting through a dam, letting letting loose their collective war-cries. The mummy Commander charged strait toward Adira, dodging the spears of the workers and the bolts of the Council soldier's one crossbowman. Adira's palms began to sweat and she readjusted her grip on her weapon. He looks dangerous, I wonder how much so... A blur of black and dark green rushed past Adira as Sirhan charged the Mummy. The Mummy, surprise written on his face, was barely able to bring his sword up in time to block Sirhan's blow, throwing himself off balance. Sirhan pressed his advantage and put his weight behind the blow, throwing the mummy onto his back, where Sirhan leaped on top of him. There was a short scuffle and the mummy struggled out from under the soldier just as Sirhan's blade descended toward the ground where he had just been. The mummy retreated, limping slightly, back along the road. Adira just then noticed that the course of the battle had been in their favor. The line held! We beat them off! They had maintained a few losses, but the Desert King had taken more, and were now pulling back, their force greatly depleted. One of the Assassins took down a High Council pike-man before retreating, and then the fight was over, as quickly as it had started. A clash of swords came from Adira's left and she spun toward the noise to see Udgr and another of his kind, the short, mountain orcs, exchanging blows almost faster then her eye could follow. Another assassin was trying to circumvent them. There was a quick, high shriek and the other orc leaped back, his hand on his arm. At the same moment the High Council crossbowman shot a bolt over the other assassin's head, forcing him to retreat back behind the building. The wounded orc let out a strange hissing sound and then retreated as well. Udgr hissed back then turned, and his eyes quickly turned from fierce, animal eyes back to their almost-human form. Adira turned back to the road, just in time to see the last orc turn the bend farther up. We have this skirmish, the Desert King will not get to Queenscross this way. We may yet survive this war! Queenscross may hold... I hope. The build. I was originally going to have an irregular base, but it was getting so square do to the restrictions that I decided just to go with a normal, square base. This is my first time building a completely dark tan building, and I think it turned out well. Experimented with some Gothic architecture for the shrine thing as well. And count this as a parting shot, and the Main Pic I was not able to include anywhere else.
