    Guy's New House

This is my fourth free-build this month, and I am Eslandian. No sooner had Guy and his Uncle landed in Bardo, than they headed off to see the new house Guy's Uncle had arranged. To say the least, it wasn't quite what Guy had expected. "What's this?" "Your new house." "What?!?" "Your new house." "You've got to be kidding me." "Well, nephew, step in!" Guy's Uncle pulled back the leaves covering the entrance. "As a house warming gift - a turkey dinner!" Guy just gaped at the opening as Elaine stepped out to welcome him. "What on earth is going on here, Aunt?" "What? - haven't you realized yet? It's April Fools!" "April Fools! I should have known. Goodness, Uncle, did you take a ship all the way back to Terreli just for an April Fools joke?!: "Never can pass up on a good one." Guy glanced at Elaine, who smiled and shrugged. "Well!" Uncle ejaculated. "Let's start up on that pie!" Later: "So... I'm ready to see my real house now." "Real house? Oh. We don't have that yet." "What?" Elaine smiled. "You're young. You can camp out." "Uh... what about you two?" "We're staying over with the mayor," Guy's Uncle replied. "Speaking of which," Elaine added, "we had better head on over. Aren't we supposed to be there for a rear supper at eight o'clock?" "Indeed! Goodbye, nephew!" "Wait! - wait! What about me?..." "Sleeping bags are behind the chimney, Guy," Elaine called out as they walked off. Another shot of the interior! Comments are appreciated as always! This was a lot of fun!
  2. Recently, Guy K. Wyndzon made a fairly significant outlay in scientific chemicals and instruments. Today he finally wrapped business up enough to dabble a little. After walking into the room that used to be the great hall, located in the older wing of his prestigious mansion, Guy spent some time organizing and unpacking his precious collection. At last he found what he was in search of - a crystal vial filled with a purplish goo. "Aha!" he exclaimed. Gingerly he lifted the container and then made a dash at a little glass tube that lay nearby. "A little of this, then I think, with a little of that...” Cautiously he poured the vaporous liquid from the vial into the tube. "So beautiful!" Guy held the tube up admiringly. But as he continued looking, Guy was suddenly shocked by seeing a vision of his Uncle through the purple vapor! Guy’s loud scream echoed off the high ceiling. He dropped one of the tubes and just managed to hold on to the other as he stepped backwards into the table from sheer astonishment - and perhaps from a bit of fear, too. "What have you done?!?!?" His Uncle's voice seemed to thunder through the hall. Guy was speechless. "What... what foppery have you introduced in here? With what nonsense have you ventured to desecrate this time-hallowed hall?!? What maniacal fever could have impelled you to so thoroughly forget reason as to squander such a quantity of hard-earned money?!?!" Never in his life had Guy heard his Uncle say so many words at one time! At last he recovered the use of his voice. "Not nonsense, Uncle - science!" And Guy waved his arm around grandly. His Uncle’s eloquence had been exhausted, but he still stood there like an avenging angel, his stick resting firmly and immovably on the floor, his eyebrows gathered like lightning-bolts over his frowning eyes. “Look,” Guy began, “look – see – all these wonderful chemical compounds – discoveries just begging to be made! Imagine what we could do with…” “Not interested!” “By the way, Uncle – I thought you were in Weelond.” “I was.” “Oh. Well – to go on – see, I’m at present deeply immersed in a groundbreaking research paper. I think I shall title it, ‘On the Three Shades of Gold and the Interactions Between Them, or, An Exposition of the Similarities and Differences Between the Warm, Pearl, and Chrome Shades of the Element Known as Gold.’ I’m considering adding an epilogue that details the specific effects of Aqua Regia upon each one.” Guy paused, but seeing that his Uncle did not appear inclined to make a comment, he continued, “Above – that is, on the next story – you can see the magnificent contraption that I have but just assembled; it makes electricity! Just think of what could be done with such a source of power!” Guy seemed about to begin a long eulogy, but a yawn from his Uncle made him continue to a different subject. “Then, you see, a new discovery has just been made and I long to corroborate it! According to a well-known scientist of Corrington, the legs of a frog twitch when brought into contact with certain machinery…” “Frog legs?” Guy’s Uncle interposed, suddenly interested. “Yes!” Guy exclaimed, pleased to see that his Uncle was paying some attention. “So it is said – and I have just received three crates of tropical frogs, straight from our new island, Torrach Bonn…” “Are you going to waste these expensive frogs on some silly experiment?!?” “No, no, of course not – we can eat them afterwards!” “Hum! You had better be sure not to add any strange-smelling stuff.” “Certainly not – but, by the by… what are you doing here?” “I’m here to tell you to pack.” “To tell me to pack? Whatever for?” “Your ship leaves tomorrow.” “Well? – I know that.” “And you leave with it.” “What?!” “You’re coming to the New World.” Guy stared blankly at his Uncle. “It’s all arranged. I got you a house in Bardo.” Guy’s jaw dropped. “Come on, let’s go eat those frog legs.” “Wait! – wait! I have to experiment on them first!…” Overview: This was fun to build! Inspired by Bregir's Society. And credit for the floor design goes to Jacob Nion. C&C welcome!
  3. Sending Oleon soldiers back to the mother country ! When first Oleanders landed on Berelli, the Ténotclaxcans welcomed them friendly. But when the leader of the clerics tryed to change the faith of the natives, the high priestess Zumo de Kapayas declared Oleon men dangerous for the Ténotclaxcans. So the king had to lead a war against those invaders. During the fights the main act lead by the king himself was the boarding of the oleon cutter "La vaillante" ! In this action the natives showed the oleon soldiers how determined they were, and the clerics ordered a strategic retreat after that act of war. It is during the departure of the Oleon fleet of Berelli that the former king of the Ténotclaxcans was killed by an aft cannon shot fired in order to protect the retreat of Oleon ships. The boarding of "La vaillante" : Battle on the deck of the Oleon cutter : The Oleon ship and its crew : The Ténotclaxcans :
  4. Fort Severus, Fishers'Cove, Berelli After the diplomatic interviews in Berelli between Corrington, the Ténotclaxcans and Eslandola, Felipe de la Manzana agreed with Lord Erie to build a fort that could oversee all the island for both Corrington and Eslandola. So Felipe asked a brilliant eslandian officer, el Colonel Ignacio Severus, a renown fort builder and a great miltary officer, to help him. Severus decided that the center cove of the island known as fishers'cove could be the best place to build a fortification. It has a rocky point at the south of the beach where the natives are regularly harpon fishing, so it is the best position according to Ignacio Severus. Ignacio Severus lead himself the begining of the building. Of course, it is made in wood for now but when Corrington will give hand, they will help to better this structure and enhanced it. The fort position did not seem to disturb the Ténotclaxcans at all. Some are still going to the beach with their harpons.
  5. Felipe de la Manzana is on the trail of the Golden Apple. To find some clue about its location, he thought studying the Ténotclaxcans was the best idea. Here Felipe is searching for a scientific help... Heading Quinnsville, Cocovia, the new settlement of Lord Smaugton, Friend and member of MAESTRO in Corrington, Felipe encoutered a new fisherman ready to work for the Trade Company. So he managed to help him to settle a fishing business in cocovia. As he arrived near the Corleander settlement, Felipe saw the value of this new fisherman (here it is, if you missed it). So he decided to salute him and see how the business is. - Are you sure it's here ? Asked Felipe to his escort. - Yes sure, sir ! answered shortly the guard. - Ah ?! I thought it would be bigger... sadly commented Felipe. The fisher's commerce was just a small shag along the beach with a little wharf already installed. Of course, for such a young colony it was fine, but Felipe forgot what it was to settle a new town. It was his friend, Lady Elysabeth, who took the responsability of the new MAESTRO settlement in Berelli, and Felipe de la Manzana didn't stay too long in the island. So he knew few of what to do to develop a new town. The only thing he was sure of, a new town is needing money, and food ! A businees in which Felipe was master. The fishing boat was just arriving with captain Santiago. Felipe yeld a "Yohoo !" Santiago answered joyfully, the fishing party was, again, a lucky one... - Welcome Sir ! Said Santiago landing the wharf. - How do you do ! Take an apple ! Welcomed Felipe, Santiago declined the apple politely. - I thought your business was more developped here ! continued Felipe. - Ah! No ! of course not ! we are in a very young settlement here in Quinnsville. But what are you doing here ? you are not only here to see me ? Are you ? - No, No I am here to hire some of the best scientists Lord Smaugton could find me to study the Ténotclaxcans. I think they are hiding some secrets about my quest ! - Ah great news ! you are progressing though you lost the Appleseed, I thought you would let it go... - No ! I will never give up this quest ! Interrupted Felipe. - Ok Sir, I did not want to bother you... - No worry... I have to leave... I am going to see those scientists. So good luck with the fishing wharf here, and goodbye. - Thank you Senor Felipe ! Goodbye. Concluded Santiago discargoing his catch. To be continued in Tomsche part... I am continuing the mad quest of Felipe and I found a collaborative work to do with Tomsche, a.k.a. Lord Smaugton. I hope you will enjoy it.
  6. In Salida Este, on the Island of Ferro Azure It's time to pick some Cotton! The workers are picking and weeding diligently. Except for that guy. He looks like he's taking advantage of the plants' height to take a siesta. He should be hung by his toes from a palm tree. To be licensed shortly as a Small Plantation. C&C Welcome!

    [ESL-FB4] Banana Shop

As you have seen how bananas are being shipped, you may wonder how the bananas are being sold. Here's the answer: The Banana Shop of Pontelli: The monkey ads have raised the popularity of the shop. The bananas in the shop are not cheap, but very sweet! Monkeys, men and women love the shop! As this is a surplus freebuild, I kindly ask for approval by Sea Rat, Oleon and Corrington visitors. C&C Welcome!
  8. On The Not-so High Seas Revon and Vasco have sailed the Aurei Lacerta as part of a Bounty run. Gold was rumored to have been found in a Oleander wreck. The rumors were true! Revon kept an eye for some of those good for nothing sea rats, while vasco went diving for Gold. The voyage was successful and they returned with a full cargo. My MCRA results MOC for the Feb. MCRA. You can catch a glimpse of the first few upgrades I made to the Aurei, but the mods aren't complete yet.
  9. Capitan Alonzo, late of the Royal Army of Eslandola, now found himself in the employ of the Merchant’s Colonial Trading Company. When agents of the MCTC discovered the island of Ferro Azure in February of 616, the MCTC quickly established the settlement of Salida Este to secure their claim. Capitan Alonzo was tasked with fortifying Salida Este and protecting its anchorage. Protecting the settlement itself should be a simple matter of building a palisade, and so he assigned several men to this task and then turned his attention to the trickier task: finding a suitable location for his artillery battery to command the harbor. Alas, at this early stage, he had only one cannon for such a battery, but such were the conditions so far from home at the far end of the world. Scouting locations on the heights above the harbor, Capitan Alonzo and his men found a spot that offered a clear view of the harbor while maintaining excellent defensive cover. After a few weeks of hard work, they had cleared the trees, leveled out a gun platform, and built defensive earthworks. Powder and shells were in place. Capitan Alonzo was pleased with the progress of his men. More guns would be needed in the future, but this was a good start. *** About the uniforms: Capitan Alonzo still wears the golden armor and morion of his Royal command. His MCTC militiamen wear sleeveless buffcoats over green shirts, and their morions are of blackened steel.
  10. In Central Bardo Instruments have been hard to come by around Bardo since the Musician's Talent Fair was announced. So one member of the local militia built a frame and borrowed a Sea Rat from the Jail. The sound isn't the best, but's it's fun to play! My entry for the MTF! The road was inspired by one of Kai's recent builds. C&C welcome!

  12. Captain's Log. February 23, 616 AE Nova Terreli in sight. The Queen has taken damage, parts burnt, front sail frazzled. Will be repaired. Cotton Lady, Fénix and Golden Snake all well. Time for profit. I have mainly copied the ships from Kai and the city layout from Phadeout. The whole voyage:
  13. I present the 4115th Eslandolean Artillery Regiment under the command of Colonel Brickinson: These guys are tough - and hard to detect in their bright green uniforms. They are preparing to protect and defend Pontelli against all possible attackers. Colonel Brickinson is utterly determined! I wanted to show that the heavy guns have been moved across the grass but it doesn't come out so well on the pictures. The artillery battery has been fortified (with plans to build a stone defense in the near future). C&C Welcome.
  14. Felipe de la Manzana, after an excellent trade run, (see here for more informations) sent a letter to Lord Smaugton in order to hire scientists to study the Ténotclaxcans myths and legends. He was still hoping to find a clue concerning the Golden Apple with these stories. It was also the occasion to meet and help a new MAESTRO fisherman who wanted to settle his activity in Cocovia, the Quinnsville island, because of the known abundance of Swordfish. Felipe head sail to Quinnsville. Arriving around Cocovia, he saw his new friend, Captain Santiago. His reputation of a lucky man was true as he was already at work to catch a splendid Marlin ! The fish fought well, but the two men in their bright new skiff, La Espada, managed to kill the Marlin. The fish was bound to a hook alongside the boat and brought to the port. Santiago was awared that sharks could be a threat and tryed to eat his catch. He protected his Marlin firing at those predators with his flintlock pistol. A game that he his good at... Seeing that fish party, Felipe was happy to see that MAESTRO's investment in La Espada of Captain Santiago was an excellent idea. He decided to meet the young lucky captain to help him develop his fishing wharf in Quinnsville, Cocovia. “Luck is a thing that comes in many forms and who can recognize her?” Ernest Hemingway, The old man and the sea. This little fishing boat is a Class 0 ship (Skiff) I am licensing with Captain Santiago in command. Of course, the fishing party and the captain name are an Homage to Hemingway text. Though, I decided to choose a younger captain for story purpose. I tryed another hull technique, but the sails are not custom sails, they are old official LEGO sails. I hope you will like this little skiff.

  16. Léon was in trouble again. He had been out patrolling, when an overwhelming swarm of pirates had attacked him. At first he had managed to keep them at bay and flee, but now he had been backed in a corner. Well, it was a good place to die... Suddenly, the pirates went all ways in their desperate attempts to evade something. Too late, it seemed. Mounted person appeared. Elysabeth called out: "You're lucky I'm healed, Léon. That was really close!" While Léon was taken behind on a saddle, and rode away, listening to Elysabeth warning him about going off alone, someone else was not so happy... ------------------------------ So, I hope you enjoyed, especially the rockwork, while the vegetation is based on Full Plate's builds. Thanks for the comments on previous builds, CC very welcome! Additional images: The brand-new regimetn that saved Léon, made up of both Corlanders and Eslandolans and as such the first mixed regiment in BoBS:
  17. Windar's family owned a large manor on the shore of Nova Terelli. The sound of waves crashing up against rocky cliffs was calming to Windar Baerbald. Only, today, stress was filling his mind. He'd joined the East Trade Wind Company a week ago, and was required to own a ship to send cargo. He knew a sea captain from several deep connections, and he asked the man to come up to his manor to discuss business. "Alright, why am i here, Windar?" Captain Elliot asked. "I've called you here to discuss purchasing one of your ships." Windar replied. "I have a whole fleet. What class are you looking for?" Windar looked down at one of his maps. "A class one ship. To get a start to my trading." he replied. "I can lend one to you for free, but if it get's destroyed, or if you lose it then you'll have to pay. And what about the crew?" Elliot said. "I've recruited an amount of men for my crew. And i already have a chosen first mate." Windar said. "Good. I'll have you sign this contract, and then i'll have my men move it to your docks." and they shook hands. Windar's wife leaned over to him to whisper something in his ear. "Where did you get a crew?" Jasmine asked. "A bunch of students my father taught volunteered. They're good, strong men." Windar whispered back. Meanwhile, in Windar's storage room, first mate Turner Brown and Harvich the bodyguard conversate in secret, and trade a letter. What could it be? Extra pictures: OoC: Alright! This is my first build for BoBS. I hoped you liked it. And yes, i agree that the floor is simple, and needs tiles. Next time i bricklink or stop by a LEGO store, i'm going to stock up on some tiles. CoC welcome!
  18. Part One Captain's Log. February 14, 616. A run-in with pirates today! Sighted off the starboard bow right after 6 bells. The Queen of Terreli engaged quickly while the three merchant ships crowded sail in an attempt to distance themselves. Although she took some heavy blows, we were pleased to see the Queen victorious over the pirate cruisers by 9 bells. She caught up with us just before dark and we resumed our course. This is a rendition of Elostirion's The Cotton Lady: This is a rendition of Phadeout's Fénix: And this is a rendition of my The Golden Snake: I love micro ships! So of course, this was great fun. Constructive criticism is welcome! Thanks for looking!
  19. Not too terribly long ago, this conversation took place around Guy K. Wynd's breakfast table. "Well, Uncle, now that we've got that mayor stuff settled - I was thinking we might wanna invest in a cotton plantation? You know, we got the monopoly and all." "Yep. Actually I got a plantation." "Wait... you bought a plantation?! When?!" "When I was down there hanging people, of course!" "Were you going to tell me?!" "I just did." "Yeah! - Well, what size is it, more or less?" "It's a large." "Whew! Just like that! Bam! You bought a large plantation! And didn't even say boo!" "Mmm-hmm. Your bacon is good." "Fresh from Bardo." "If it's from Bardo, it ain't fresh." "Whatever. You doing anything today?" "Yep." "I meant, what are you doing today?" "I'm going to Weelond." "What?!?!" "Yeah. The plantation has a nice house nearby. My wife and I are gonna move in." "You're kidding me!" "Nope." "Wait... you're just going to leave me high and dry here?!" "Unless you wanna come, too." "When are you leaving?" "This afternoon." "This afternoon?!?! Were you going to tell me?" "Guy, I just did." "Whatever." Shortly thereafter, Guy's Uncle arrived at his new plantation in Weelond. Home, sweet home! (For some reason the road looks really big in this picture. Probably because of the really small carriage; I had been planning on building a bigger one, but only had two black wheels available!) As per custom, the neighbors popped on over to give the new family a warm welcome. Horses are important assets in the new world, especially for Eslandians. So they need to be well taken care of! Guy's Uncle has a full half dozen hands working on his plantation... that is, twelve hands, six people. Looks like one of 'em isn't doing too much work right about now, though! Picking season has just barely begun in Weelond. A few of the workers are getting a head start, but picking doesn't officially commence until tomorrow. At 66x50, this is one of my largest builds to date - but it was also a lot of fun to build. I tried out some new stuff with the red roof, the shutters, and the cotton, and threw in some old techniques with the pillars and that sort of thing. This is my fourth free-build in February. Constructive criticism is always welcome!

    Miscalculated

A few days ago, Guy K. Wyndzon received a short letter from his Uncle – much to his surprise. Although he had told his Uncle to “keep in touch,” it had never occurred to him that he would! The letter ran as follows. Guy, Since you asked me, I send a letter. Am doing very poorly. Was going to do two hangings yesterday, but the court called them off. Downright aggravating!!!! Nice weather here. Etc. Your Uncle. Given, 8 Mar. “Well! Some letter that was!” Guy tossed it down with an amused grin. “Uncle doesn’t have an atom of patience in his composition! I wonder what was really behind those hangings?” and the young Secretary of State indulged in a bit of speculation. But he was far enough from the truth. In fact, this was more or less how it went: “Román Esteban Fontajo! You have been found guilty of a horrendous debt, amounting to 5 gold doubloons! Come with us, immediately!” “I’m not Román, sir. I’m his brother, Rialto Espada.” “Well, come with us anyways! You’re going to be hung!” The man’s eyes widened in shock. “But… but,” he stammered, “I’m not Román! I’m not in debt!” “Hang your excuses! And you too! Come along!” A pair of brawny young sailor stepped forward and dragged the hapless Rialto Espada Fontajo out into the street. “Next stop, the town barracks!” their leader – none other than Guy K. Wyndzon’s Uncle – ordered. The group marched along, headed by the fearsome Uncle and tailed by the still thoroughly bewildered Rialto Espada. “KolonialBeamster!” the Uncle bellowed upon arriving. “What outrageous names some people have,” he muttered under his breath. Then, raising his voice again – “Come out immediately! You have been found guilty of a horrendous debt, amounting to… to… hang the amount! Come with us, on the double!” A smiley-faced soldier stepped up and saluted smartly. “KolonialBeamter’s complements, sir! I’m one of his minions. What can I do for you today, sir?” “You can come with us and be hung!” exclaimed the irascible old Uncle. The soldier’s tiny eyes expanded alarmingly. “Ye-es, sir,” he stammered. “Come along!” the Uncle ejaculated, waving one of the sailors up. And so the minion joined the group as they headed out toward the beach, followed by curious glances from the passersby. Once at the beach, Guy’s Uncle leaned over onto his stick, glowering. “Do your business!” he commanded the sailors. Nothing loath, one of the sailors scampered up the nearby palm tree. The Uncle waited in grim silence while his victims looked around them in a half-disbelieving alarm. Suddenly footsteps were heard in the distance, and Guy’s Uncle whirled around, only to come face to face with two darkly clad messengers. “Who are you?” he roared. “I bring an important message!” the one dressed in a suit and necktie exclaimed breathlessly. “I have an important letter!” ejaculated the other, at the same time. The first one turned upon the other angrily. “I am bringing the important message, not you!” “No!” the other one retorted. “I have the important letter!” “No you don’t! I have it!” “No, you don’t! It’s right here!” “What?! It’s right here!” Both men seemed ready to come to loggerheads, when Guy’s Uncle interposed – “Where are you two from?” “From the court!” exclaimed the man with the necktie. “From the High Council!” exclaimed the other. “No, from the court!” “From the council!” But Guy’s Uncle interrupted again. “Well, give me the message, or the letter, or whatever it is!” The messenger of the necktie bowed low and, with a glare at his rival, presented a sealed missive. The other one bowed even lower, and with a prolonged scowl toward his competitor, presented a letter tied with a silken thread. Guy’s Uncle took the sealed missive first. He perused it carefully, and as he read his brow gathered thunder. “What… what… what… nonsense!!” He turned and threw the letter violently into the sea, stomping and scowling and muttering. The two messengers exchanged glances. “I hope he doesn’t serve the other letter the same way,” one muttered. The Uncle glanced at the cover of the letter tied with a silken thread. It was directed to Román Esteban Fontajo. He turned and tossed it to Rialto Espada, who caught it instinctively. “A letter for you,” he said gruffly. Rialto Espada looked at the address. “But I’m not Román!” “If you can get hung instead of him, you might as well as read his mail!” Guy’s Uncle exclaimed – and abruptly walked off! The sailors and messengers and prisoners looked at each other in bewilderment. “Perhaps it has something to do with that letter,” suggested one of the messengers, pointing to the soggy piece of paper floating a little ways out. One of the sailors instantly dashed in to retrieve it. Then the group huddled around the squelchy mess and tried to decipher it. “It says… ‘To something somethingzon’… I can’t read the next part, but then it says something like, ‘error in calintention’?” “Calculation,” the minion suggested. “‘Error in calculation,’” the messenger nodded. He continued, “then farther down, ‘our regrets… no hanging…’” “Wait… does that mean… we’re not supposed to be hung?!” the minion exclaimed. “Hurray!” “Some of us were never supposed to be hung in the first place,” Rialto Espada sniffed. He was still a little perturbed. “Well, all’s well that ends well!” the High Council messenger exclaimed joyfully. “Say! What’s that letter you have there about?” Rialto Espada tore it open and read, To the honorable Román Esteban Fontajo, Greetings from the illustrious High Council of Trade. Your services on behalf of the crown and the city of Nova Terreli have come under our notice. We are pleased to present you, or a friend of yours whom you might appoint, with the following offer of mayorship of the grand city of Nova Terreli. Your response is eagerly awaited. _________________Guy K. Wyndzon _________________Secretary of State And once more the group looked at each other in surprised amazement.
  21. Captain Log: February 1 616 We weighed anchor and moved out of Terelli's grand harbour as dawn rose. The Queen of Terelli, our warship escort, had already pulled out ahead and heavily laden for goods we headed east under favourable winds to make our fortunes in Nova Terelli. The three ships, the Cotton Lady, the Golden Snake and the Fénix are shown below. Check out further installments to see how the voyage progressed. 22. This is my third freebuild of the month. If you like it and are not from Eslandola, please give it a thumb’s up. *** This is a continuation of the story of animosities between John Hawksbrugh of Corrington and Philip Janszen of Eslandola, specifically following the events in Angling for a Duel. *** Capt. Janszen and his longtime friend, Anthony Crol, were headed for their ship when the dock agent called out. “Janszen! Come over here!” “What is it?” replied Philip. “The Pot o’ Gold came in from Port Raleigh today, and her captain left one of the items from the mail packet with me, figuring you would be down here soon enough. What are you doing getting mail from a Corrie?” “Haven’t you heard?” said Tony. “Ol’ Pip was called out by this Corrie in the Kings Port Advertiser and has challenged him to a duel!” “Has he now?” replied the dock agent. “Does he know how good Pip is with a blade? I would hope so, for his sake.” The agent turned to Janszen with the letter. “Here you go, Pip.” “Let’s see what he has to say.” Philip opened the letter and quickly read its message. “Hmm. Well, he withdraws calling me an Oleon turncoat… but still insists on defending the honor of his Lady Winifred. I guess my words weren’t enough in that regard.” Janszen read a little further, then laughed. “Ha! He will be taking instruction from Master Kenner in swordsmanship, he says!” “Taking instruction?! Pip, you’ll kill him. You can’t actually duel this poor sod.” “I think I have a solution. I shall suggest the winner be whoever can draw first blood. That way I can still teach him a lesson and give him a nice dueling scar as a permanent reminder.” “That sounds quite reasonable” replied Tony. “And that way I won’t have to hustle you out of that Corrie port while the constables try to arrest you for murder!” “Thanks Tony. I’m glad I could make this easier on you” said Philip, needling Tony. “But I’m not letting you off the hook. If Hawksbrugh is undergoing training, I must make sure I’m in top form as well, and that is now your responsibility, Tony. En garde!” With that, Philip drew his sword and waited for Tony to draw his. Then the impromptu sparring match began. Philip pressed from the start, and Tony retreated down the dock. Philip jumped on top of a crate to gain high ground, but Tony responded in kind, and they dueled across the tops of crates and barrels on the dock. Eventually, Philip forced Tony back onto the dock. Tony thought he saw an opening and tried a quick thrust, but Philip parried the attack and gained the advantage. Extended and off balance, Tony conceded the match. “You win, Pip,” said Tony, bowing in concession, “…this time.” “Ah, that was fun, Tony. Thanks for the workout.” “No problem, Pip. You were in top form. Mr. Hawksbrugh won’t last long.” “Yes, we will have more fun in a couple of weeks! I shall write Mr. Hawksbrugh and confirm that we will arrive in Port Raleigh after we complete our trade run at the end of the month.”
  23. Willem Guilder was pleased with how his cotton plantation was progressing. With some early returns in hand, he could afford to open up additional acres for planting. So he set a team of men to clearing and plowing the land. *** This build expands on the earlier medium plantation found here, increasing it in size to a large plantation. Here is the new build by itself: And here it is combined with the previous build: In addition to the new sections, I added some stones to the road along the fence in the old build, as you can see better here: A close-up of the plow: And a resting worker with his scythe: I think the plowed rows in the field worked out ok (although I did get some glare off the slope pieces I used in one of the photos). All feedback welcome!
  24. Aaron van der Meede is a young lawyer, recently graduated from the University of Terreli. Working for an established attorney, Aaron was tasked with finding a suitable plot of land in the islands for a plantation for a wealthy client. Aaron did some research and then sailed to An Holli. There the young lawyer fell in love with a world he had never imagined. The lush countryside intoxicated him with an enthusiasm for life. Aaron quickly completed his task, finding a suitable plot for the client’s future plantation and sent word back on a fast ship. But Aaron did not return to Terreli to deliver his findings in person. Aaron could not imagine ever going back. The islands were where he belonged. He scouted the town of Weelond for a suitable place to set up shop. In the warehouse district he found what he was looking for. He found a small private warehouse with available space on the second floor. The building was a bit older than others around -- the stone walls were no longer whitewashed, and the roof was made of wooden planks, not the red tiles seen almost everywhere – but the building was sound, and the location was good. The second-floor space was really nothing more than a small apartment, but he could make it into an office. Aaron quickly found the proprietor and they came to an agreement for the young lawyer to rent the space. Aaron borrowed a ladder and literally put out his shingle. And the fates clearly approved of the young lawyer’s decision. Before Aaron even had a chance to furnish his office or send for his books, a prospective client saw his sign and came up the stairs. Aaron had his first client, surely the first of many. *** One of the things I wanted to do with this build was play with the roof technique. I think I'd adjust how I did it next time; feedback on it is appreciated. I planned on doing an interior, but I wasn't particularly happy with how the wall panels looked from the inside, and I wound up stealing the tiles I used on the floors for another build.
  25. Can't sail without ropes, can you? That's why Enrique del Bosque left for Nova Terreli and together with his son is making the best ropes you can find anywhere in the New World. The work is hard as you have to work in the open, but with the increasing importance of Nova Terreli's harbor, Enrique can't complain at all ...
