    Storm in the North

The Bay of Seals. An inhospitable body of water even in the midst of summer. In the early weeks of spring, it is a positively murderous expanse of icy blue. It was not a particularly inviting place to come ashore, but it was not dusk of the second day since the Blanchefleur had foundered east of the Bay of Seals. The wind had driven hard from the north, and rather than fight against it to reach the mouth of the Bearclaw River and the port of Nordheim, the castaway had rowed south, coming ashore in an inlet on the east bank of Gronnfjord, the westernmost tributary of the Bay. The ground was hard rock - sheltered for the most part from the weather by the steep sides of the fjord, there was little sand on the beach, merely a rugged slope of gray stone, broken somewhat by small plants, and no doubt exposed by whatever cataclysm had cut the Gronnfjord into the into the land. A chilly, damp wind, bearing with it an icy tinge of the bay, swept up as the lone, weary traveler laid the oars on the rowing bench and climbed stiffly out onto dry land. He lifted a wooden staff from the bottom of the boat. It was taller than he, completely smooth and straight save for a large knot at one end. He settled the staff in his left elbow as he pulled his cloak tighter around himself and pulled down his weather-beaten hat. He reached back under the cloak and checked the position of several items strapped to his back, then stood erect and looked around him. The failing light of the sun revealed a path, not perhaps comfortable but at least safe, winding its way up the side of the fjord. Gripping the staff in his gloved right hand, the traveler climbed the beach, leaving the rowboat hanging by a few rocks under its keel. The first good rain or strong wind would dislodge it, but the traveler did not care. Where he was going now, he would have no need for this rowboat. Many long leagues lay between him and his destination, and doubtless many perils and adventures. The fate of one small Avalonian rowboat mattered little to him. At long last, he returned to his homeland, Mitgardia, but for how long and to what end remained to be seen.
  2. It has been a while since Sir Uridius Dratiphe has been around in Mitgardia - however, that is (partly) because he has been occupied in fixing a huge shield with his coat of arms upon his castle's walls. The heraldic symbols on the Dratiphe coat of arms consist of: Gauntlet - strong and prepared Scales - justice Anvil - honor Arrows - readiness for war Motto - Omnia Praesignis Est (if you want to know what it means, look it up for yourself!) Further, there's all the color stuff and the cornered shield, but I won't bother you with what all that means right now! You see, I actually did put a lot more work into this than it looks like! This is my entry to the Coat of Arms category on MOCathalon, and when I started it, I figured I could make it so that it would work here as well as Uridius' coat of arms. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  3. Exetrius Saga 1: Fallen leaf 2: Message in Kyrrath 3: Equipment upgrade Episode 4: Subjection of a legend It was about a year ago, that the first signs of a stir in the land beyond the northern Mitgardian border appeared. It didn't take long before a wave of white-furred and -skinned creatures, the Algus, invaded Mitgardia and spread over the rest of Historica. At first, they appeared to be almost invincible; freezing everything in their path, invulnerable to fire magic and regular combat. But in the course of a few months, thanks to a whole array of different methods that were discovered to affect the Algus, most of them have been eliminated by now. After hearing the first rumors of the Algus, Onicius was intrigued by them. Nobody seemed to know anything more than what could be directly observed from the invaders. How does their freezing ability and incredible toughness work? Who is their leader? Where exactly did they come from? Most important of all: why did they attack, what is their goal? These were a few of the questions that kept him busy. Therefor, - only just after the Algus had started their invasion of Mitgardia - Onicius ordered a small group of skilled spies and assassins to gather as much intelligence as possible about them in the North and capturing a specimen, if possible. None of them returned. Four weeks after departure of the group, one was confirmed dead; a frosted body with two limbs torn off... It was decided that the Order of Zotharith would not meddle with any Algus business, unless absolutely necessary. Individual members taking action and rumors were the main sources of information for Onicius. He documented everything; from the latest innovations in Algus warfare, estimations of average cooling capacity, speed and body size, to their moving patterns on the map. He hypothesized that their abilities are intrinsic to their nature, but they must be the result of magic. What bothered him the most, was the fact that they didn't move as an organized unity at all: no common strategy, target area or direction, but yet, they started their invasion all at the same time. But then, after several months had passed, a member of the Order came with a piece of news that put the situation in a very different perspective... Apparently, a bloodthirsty dragon and it's wizard rider were terrorizing the Frozen Beyond, devouring hundreds of Algus. The creature, fearfully called "Nemesis of the Beyond", is growing in strength with every being it eats, some even claimed that it transforms when it does so. (other side of the story) With this information, Onicius immediately summoned the Zotharith elite. Plans were forged and a team was assembled, consisting of: Onicius Centario: Leader of the Order of Zotharith, legendary soul magic wizard, master in crypto magic and alchemy. (forms of magic) Zeruko Urima: Ranked #1 on the list of strongest wizards in the Order, crypto magic genius, master in high-energic alchemy. Expert in combat with katanas. Sometimes reffered to as 'The Darkitect'. Deliora Asagrim: A highly skilled assassin and spy, powerful energy magic. She can fly, too. Ryo Kokoro: Master in martial arts, is able to wield almost any weapon. Young thrill seeker, 'Rookie'. The four of them (and some supply carriers) moved out, to the north of Mitgardia, where they set up a camp and refined their plan. Their main goal is to lure 'Nemesis' into an ambush, attacking it while its transformation is still in progress, assassinating the wizard rider (Garufust) immediately, and capture the dragon alive if possible. Finally, roles for the operation were assigned and a location was chosen. The roles: Onicius: Casting his new spell, 'Soul Eclipse', which would alter character, behaviour and emotions of the subject it's been cast on. Capturing souls. Zeruko: Building a place for the simulated offering ritual (a cover-up for the ambush), using his 'Architect Alchemy'. Writing a spell book which produces a offering goddess-like creature, which he calls 'Eye of Despair'. Deliora: Supporting all spells with arcane energy, eliminating Garufust. Ryo: Activating 'Eye of Despair', playing along as the leader of the ritual. The operation succeeded. 'Soul Eclipse' worked out, with an unexpected side-effect... the creature transformed into fire dragon, or, more like a phoenix. Zotharith may have aquired it's most powerful ally yet. Garufust was defeated, his soul was captured successfully. Ryo was rewarded with the wizard's armour (it was useless to the others anyway...), in which he often seen nowadays: To be continued.... in the next episode: Family Dinner! Hello there, thanks for checking this out. I know it's a lot of reading, sorry for that ! I really enjoyed all the separate builds on this one (a couple of them could not be fitted in this build in the end, so maybe in later builds), the whole process took WAY more time than I had planned! Photographing and editing alone have taken me about 10 full hours... As always, you can check out my Flickr for additional shots. I hope you enjoyed the story, I did it a little differently compared to with my previous big magic battle build. C&C very much appreciated!
  4. The Company of Lord Theodore Bruin has heard the call from the Desert King. Much like all the other mercenary companies that gather at Sultan's Gate, the so called "Teddy's Bears" are hoping to gain both gold and glory from the upcoming crusade. Travelling down from the North these Mitgardians need to pass trough some rough terrain before reaching the land of Kaliphlin. The company consists of three divisions, the knights, the footmen and the archers, all resourceful and reliable soldiers commanded by the respectable Lord Bruin and his counsellor. The company is of course also bringing their loyal mascot, the brown bear Boo. For the Desert King's Nocturnus Crusade Mini Challenge. /Etzel
  5. With all the villagers trained in basic sparring, Crynis moved on to the next step: training with real weapons. Each man or woman chose their preferred weapon from a pile amassed by the mercenaries Crynis had hired. Ragnor, the mercenaries' leader, personally oversaw each mock duel and gave the villagers important tips which would most probably one day save their lives. Now Crynis and Ragnor looked on as two such villagers began their first trial by combat. Truff the woodcutter, armed with a shortsword, and the fisherman Larne, wielding the spear he used to ply his trade. The two combatants circled each other, looking for weaknesses in the other's defense... Suddenly, Truff lunged without warning, striking at Larne's unprotected side with his sword. But the fisherman, instead of blocking the blow, leaned backwards, evading the woodcutter's strike. Truff, off balance, lost his footing and stumbled just as Larne brought the spear down on his back. He crumpled to the ground, defeated. As the victor helped his opponent to his feet, Ragnor approached the pair. Nodding gruffly to Larne, he addressed the woodcutter: "You're strong, and fast too, but you shouldn't rush into attacks. Be wary of your opponent's moves. And Larne, your trick worked this time, but you'll need to perfect it for it to work in real combat. Well done, both of you." Crynis watched, feeling a sense of pride. Her fervent dream was slowly but surely becoming a reality... Figless: C&C welcome!
  6. So I finally made an AoM entry :P (I have around 10 builds in LDD though, yet I only want to submit real ones :P) Neymara and her brother Marik love brewing beer. One day, some friends told them to sell it on the road, as they thought it was very good. They set up a stand along a mayor road, over which many Mitgardian patrol units passed. And who is a better customer than a thirsty warrior? They sell so much these days, that Marik is continuously getting more with his ox, Byrt. I wanted to try multiple things in this build, it is basically the first time I made trans-clear water, I made everything tiled off, including the rocks that are far more detailed than I'm used to, also the construction of the stand, the autumn tree, and the road. I wondered if anyone has ever built a road this way, I pretty much like it myself! (these are 92 1x2 slopes). The tree was hell, I can't touch it: most of the leaves are not connected to anything. Also I think the dragon knights of Kingdoms are the perfect Midgardian soldiers: two shades of green on the torso, and two shades of yellow on the shield. I am happy with this build for it is by far my best detailed build ever, yet I can improve so much more. So please critizise and say what you would have done different (the light bley 1x1 tiles are a mistake on bricklink, should have been dark XD)
  7. I realized Davok and his 'men' did not really have an introduction yet. I am busy building a fortress where a story takes place, yet I made an introduction for the Bull clan first. Credits for the quotes aren't mine, obviously, yet the story is inspired by them :) My plot will be a bit isolated, so there is little clashing with the official story :) (Spoiler: there might come a larger battle, but just pretend, after the story, that it did not take place) The Bulls are a clan of warriors in the northern mountains. They are led by their selfstyled 'king', who sits upon is wooden chair in Bull's Eye Fortress. You will meet him next build. I, Davok Shieldbasher, am the captain of the warriors, and lead them into battle where that spoiled brat can't. Note: I did not say we are the good guys, nor that I am the good guy, nor that there exists something like a good guy. Be warned. Davok: "We were the warriors of the North," "Notorious and brave" "We'd never lost a fight in war, we feared not the grave" to be continued... whole build, almost forgotten

    Frost Spear

Frost Spear Tower sits at the far northern edges of Mitgardia, beyond the clan lands and close to the Ebar Stream. The winters here are brutal, even for Mitgardia, but the guards of Frost Spear enjoy something few other places do not. The tower is built on a small ridge with an active hot spring. Eventually someone got smart, and put in a crude piping system which keeps the main tower and the stable warm, even in the most deadliest blizzards. Well this is the last of the series. I'll be returning to the volcanoes, autumn mountain forests and swamps of my own guild. I hope you all enjoyed what ended up being a tower tour across the guilds. As always thanks for looking, commenting and critiquing!
  9. Dragonfire

    Prison Break

In the farthest corner of Nocturnus, in a desolate, barren clump of rocks, a wooden tower stretched just over the horizon, visible to all near and far, but seemingly impassable. Two Drow soldiers stood guard at the base of this structure - well, not exactly stood guard! They lay slumped against the rocks, bottles clutched in their hands, drunken and tired. When Berelan Gryffen, lord of the Mitgardian county of Stormhold, opened his eyes, he didn't know where he was. His last memory was of a far-away Avalonian outpost, of a fierce battle between the Drow and the local soldiers. Now he was lying on a bare, earthy floor, his clothes in tatters and chains around his hands. Weakly, he struggled into a sitting position... and then he realised he wasn't alone in the cell... A Tigris, by the looks of it - part human, part feline in appearance, with a mane of black hair and its teeth bared in a grimace. As Berelan raised his head, the creature's eyes narrowed, "So you're finally awake. Been waiting two weeks for this..." Berelan managed to gasp, "I mean you no harm..." but was met with a harsh, gravelly laugh from the Tigris, "I'm not going to hurt you, ekshalar. You'd better thank me, because I could've escaped two weeks ago, when I broke the clasp on my chains. But I couldn't leave you here- those vhhskarn would have made you suffer for my escape. Who are you, and where are you from?" Somewhat relieved but still wary, Berelan replied, "I'm from Mitgardia... my name's Berelan. You?" Without replying, the Tigris moved over to Berelan's chains and yanked them out of the wall with a contemptuously little amount of force, "Them Black Spire vhhskarn don't know what they're in for. I'll bet they've never even seen a Tigris before. Name's Tskerr, by the way. I'm with the Nocturnus Resistance. Now let's get a move on - I'm sick of this place!" Drunkenly, one of the Drow guards rose to check on the prisoners. They'd been paid a lot by a cloaked stranger calling himself Xaris to do this, and they'd spent the money on fine Nocturnian liquor. This turned out to be his undoing. As the guard stumbled along the path, he noticed a blurry, reddish-brown shape leaping from rock to rock, a length of chains swinging from its hand... Tskerr suddenly leapt at the guard, crushing him to the ground with brute strength. Berelan, emerging from behind a rock, saw the second guard draw his sword and advance on the oblivious Tigris... ...so he grabbed a conveniently nearby scorpion and threw it at the Drow! Pleased with their handiwork, the two escapees proceeded to don the guards' clothes, passing as Black Spire enforcers to all who met them. Time was of the essence - the resistance was growing and soon things would come to a brutal and bloody head.... [sorry for the lengthy story; C&C welcome!]

    Storage cave

After a long days work, the farmer brings his harvest to his storage. A small build on my day off, I know it is LDD again, but I ensure you I have a nice wip in real lego :P I just only have access to my lego in the weekends, so in the meanwhile I use LDD. More pictures:
  11. Infernum

    Fdrjornol the Dragon

Fdrjornol is a legendary dragon to the Mitgardian clansfolk. They believe this dragon was responsible for clearing snow for the first clanspeople to build a settlement. It is believed that the dragon watched over them for centuries until returning to the mountain caves he calls home. The Elders of several clans prophesize that one day, when the clans are in grave danger, the dragon will return and save them, and scorch the lands of their enemies. I hadn't built a creature in a while, so I built this massive guy for the Tourney, a castle contest on Mocpages. Hope you like this little guy!

    [Frozen Beyond - A] Algnado!

The Algus Continue To Spread.... Even the most secluded fortresses in Mitgardia are not safe. A single cry of "Algnado!" is heard before all are silenced forever. My Cat A. Entry. C&C Welcome! For a 360 degree view, check out both models on Meceabricks
  13. Sometimes it's just plain hard to be a frozen beyonder... especially when you're on spy duty or something... They really have no idea why, but somehow their approach is always noticed and the're spotted... Oh well, there are some problems involved in carrying winter around in your back pocket! Nevertheless, Uridius is quite unconcerned (he's always unconcerned, for that matter!) Finally got the interior to this thing finished! This is my Category A entry to the Frozen Beyond contest, and was (minus the interior) an entry to CCCXIII's large miscellaneous - and yes, I know it doesn't stand much of a chance in that quarter, but it didn't fit anywhere else! Credit goes to SK for the awesome bridge design, thanks for viewing, C&C are always welcome!
  14. Another fearsome creature from the Frozen Beyond! Inspired by - well, let's see if anyone can guess! Top view: This was quite some fun to build, thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  15. Somewhere in the frozen North, a brave Viking from Skaljarik battles a frozen sea serpent. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The beastie: And the warrior: So, a speedy entry to Cat B. My pieces/abilities don't lend themselves too well to creatures. I might try more beasties with some mixels joints. C+C welcome! Edit: the Viking is from Andrew Spaders town!
  16. Deep In the Frozen Beyond... The Algus have summoned new creatures for their ever growing conquest of Historica. One of these is the Syrik, a name whose meaning is lost to time. Nowhere is safe.... My Cat B entry. C&C welcome!

    [Freebuild] An Algus is...

Words of Wisdom recently written in Mitgardia: An Algus is Still an Algus. no matter how cute. Just a random build I came up with while building for Cat. B of the Frozen Beyond. Thanks for Looking!
  18. Here's my entry to Category B of the Frozen Beyond contest: The Wild Yxen is typically only found in the northernmost parts of Mitgardia, but the unusual cold of the current winter, has seen many migrating well south of their general habitat. They're known for their bulky, furry build, and while not usually an aggressive animal, their brute strength and sharp tusks can be quite dangerous: C&C welcome, I do have more GoH builds coming within the next month, including one that may be my best build yet
  19. Victory is ours! Long and hard was the fight against the Algus. Many different ways were conceived to beat them but none really worked totally well - until today. Until Samuel Marron realized that all the different tactics had to be combined! You need the fire of the Mitgardian Dragon.... ("I love the smell of dragon fire in the morning") ... guided by magic rabbit gloves... ... with the helpful addition of burning Kaliphlinian oil... .. the magic of the Rainbow Spell ... .. and the freshness of the Mitgardian apple barrage... .. to defeat the Algus! And so it came that in the Battle of Green Field the Algus were utterly destroyed. None of them escaped. Under the force of the combined Mitgardian attack the power of the Algus waned, the cold disappeared, their snow melted, their bodies dissolved. So, the weather forecast was bad ... for the Algus. The End. Larger versions on flickr. There is a prequel showing where the Rainbow Spell came from. And there is a sequel showing the victory party. C&C welcome! One addition: As we have to show how the Algus change the weather, here is "WALK LIKE AN ALGUSSIAN": In the "Captain Braunsfeld's part of the Algus Saga" you are here: Part 9 1) The Beacon of Bruns Fall 2) Defending the North 3) Southern Comfort 4) Help from a Nobleman 5) Two Minor Victories 6) Water does not stop them! 7) What's that coming over the hill? 8) Where the Rainbow Spell came from 9) AppleCalypse Now! 10) The Victory Party
  20. This is a prequel to the final battle with the Algus and the MOC explains how the Mitgardians came into possession of the Rainbow Spell. On the basis of good diplomatic connections a messenger from the South brought a surprise... It was a scroll. A magic spell. A spell that would work against creatures of the cold. Called "The Rainbow Spell". Suddenly there was hope! In the "Captain Braunsfeld's part of the Algus Saga" you are here: Part 8 1) The Beacon of Bruns Fall 2) Defending the North 3) Southern Comfort 4) Help from a Nobleman 5) Two Minor Victories 6) Water does not stop them! 7) What's that coming over the hill? 8) Where the Rainbow Spell came from 9) AppleCalypse Now!
  21. ... it's a monster... Created and controlled by Algus magic, the multi-eyed snow monster brings terror to Mitgardia! Run for your lives! What can be done to stop the evil Algus??? Some more. C&C Welcome! In the "Captain Braunsfeld's part of the Algus Saga" you are here: Part 7 1) The Beacon of Bruns Fall 2) Defending the North 3) Southern Comfort 4) Help from a Nobleman 5) Two Minor Victories 6) Water does not stop them! 7) What's that coming over the hill? 8) Where the Rainbow Spell came from 9) AppleCalypse Now!
  22. The Battle for Red Brick Castle: The Algus are attacking deep in the South of Mitgardia ... and water does not stop them: Their freezing spells bring ice and snow - and soon they charge! Some defenders are scared... ... but the Mitgardian mage is fighting the ice with fire: And Major Marron is leading his men and heroes into the battle: ... and the fight against the Algus goes on... More pictures can be found on flickr. (Maybe you can spot some rabbit gloves. ) C&C welcome! In the "Captain Braunsfeld's part of the Algus Saga" you are here: Part 6 1) The Beacon of Bruns Fall 2) Defending the North 3) Southern Comfort 4) Help from a Nobleman 5) Two Minor Victories 6) Water does not stop them! 7) What's that coming over the hill? 8) Where the Rainbow Spell came from 9) AppleCalypse Now!
  23. Darn it. As I looked out over the expanse of the ocean, I noticed a ship nearing our shores. I was the lookout for the coast of our little settlement of Skaljarik. It was a terrible post. as I was forced to starve and freeze keeping a lookout. That stupid war cost me everything. I had been assigned to raid the Kaliphlin coast, back when people respected me. But civil war had broken out, and I had lost most of my crew. Upon my return, Jarl Stormbreaker had stripped me of everything. I was barely above scum. May Wulf Stormbreaker die the miserable death he visits upon me. I hated my job, I hated this village, and I was beginning to hate life. Sighing, I started down the path. As I reached the shore, I saw my two friends practicing combat. They claimed to be my friends, once upon a time. But I knew now how hollow those words had been. When Wulf took everything from me, neither of them lifted a finger. No, they were too busy planning pick-nicks and trips to help their dying friend. As I saw the ship keel away from our shores, I wanted to spit on those two. Lydia and Rollo. What pathetic friends. But I just continued on. As the hours wore by, the urge to do something was overcoming me. I wanted to avenge the wrong done, or simply leave before I died. But as night fell, I returned to Wulf's lodge. Because it held the only thing keeping me alive. "Logan," the servant said. "You look like a wreck." "Life will do that to you, Bynjar," I replied. She smiled in return. "Just don't do anything stupid during the night watch," she replied. "And take this." As I took the package, I could feel the warmth within. "You got fresh bread?" "And fish," she replied. "Wulf wasn't hungry this evening." As I took to the night watch, I ate the food Bynjar gave me. It was wonderful. The bread was so warm, it literally melted in the mouth. And the fish was excellent, as usual. That's why I can't leave. I looked out at the sky. The stars were everywhere, and it was very relaxing to look at. I had almost drifted off to sleep when my body sent me a warning. There was a chill in the air. And unnatural chill. The Algus. But that was the question. What was the point? I could let them kill Wulf and his cronies. All my enemies, killed without even knowing what hit them. The thought brought a grim to my mind. But then I stopped cold. Bynjar. Leaping up, I rushed to Jarl Stormbreaker's lodge. I must warn them. We must be prepared for what's coming. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>(Story ends)<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ^ Furrier ^ Courier ^ Stables ^ Fishery And a final shot of the build. Builder's notes: Well, this took quite a lot of time, but worth it, IMO. I am very pleased with how this turned out. And it's great to be building for GoH again. Also, Happy thanksgiving! Author's notes: As said above, it's great to be back to doing GoH. I've had tons of good excuses, and a few bad ones for being inactive. But I am glad to be writing about the Vikings of Skaljarik once more. For the praise of His glory! ~Andrew Spader
  24. After the encounter with the Algus at the summer smithy, Frode and Stian ride speedily to warn Falkidalr of the approaching threat. Along the way, they pass two farmers with their pigs and alert them as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for viewing! C&C are much appreciated. This build’s inspiring elements were the two techniques for trees, both for trunks and for foliage placement. They proved to be somewhat challenging, but I was pleased with the results. I will definitely be modifying or abandoning the slope-brick branches, as they are too jagged on the top, but I was quite satisfied with the SNOT plate branch. The deciduous and evergreen trees both are a satisfactory result for me, but they are too parts-intensive to replicate for an entire forest… -Slegengr P.S. Per numerous requests, I am adding a basic tutorial for the olive green small pine trees. The images show the individual components. The basic elements are the olive green foliage pieces and the black bar/clip combination piece in various arrangements. The base is the octagonal bar around the 2x2 studs. Bar clips are attached by the clip and the foliage pieces are slipped over the bar end. To alter the diameter, I simply replaced the octagonal bar with a chain of bar clips, using two rings with 6 bar clips each and three rings with 4 bar clips. By clipping a bar clip to the bar of each bar clip after making the bar clip chain (sorry if this is confusing), a bar end is left sticking out for the attachment of the foliage pieces. The top is completed by sliding a 1x1 black cone (stud down) to secure the rings and a bar clip with foliage piece onto the top of the lance to fill out the top. Due to the clip connection, the size of chain is unlimited and the angles for the foliage are unlimited (or nearly so). The foliage pieces can be rotated on the bar connection to add to the randomness of the organic shape. This technique and variants thereof are likely to show up in my future MOCs. Pictures to clarify explanation:
  25. In the far north of Mitgardia there exist a species of ice dragon, they originally helped keep the Algus at bay but the tables have now been turned and they are now being hunted by the Algus.
