Hello everyone,

I am very pleased to present my latest reviewing adventure on this brand new licensed LEGO Minifigures - Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 which will be available worldwide in August 2018. First of all, I would like to give my thanks to The LEGO Group (TLG) which include the LEGO CEE and LEGO Collectable Minifigures Design Team and our very own EB CopMike. Most importantly, my wife (Belun) for allowing me to review this series in peace over the past weekend. I can't believe I had completed 27 exhaustive LEGO pictorial reviews including this current one, solely for the coverage of the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series / LEGO Minifigures Theme throughout the past eight years.

Following Eurobricks tradition for all of the past Collectable Minifigures polls once more, it started with a humble beginning of Series 1 followed by Series 2 in the year 2010 and it continue to spread like wildfire with another three strong waves of minifigures craze in the year 2011, putting Series 3Series 4 and Series 5 in an excellent harvesting year. In the year 2012, we celebrated with Series 6Series 7 and recent Series 8. With the year 2013, we have the Series 9Series 10 and Series 11. In the year 2014, we seen the LEGO Movie SeriesThe first LEGO Simpsons Series and Series 12. In the year 2015, we had the Series 13LEGO Simpsons Series 2 and Series 14. In the year 2016, we seen the Series 15LEGO Disney Series 1 and Series 16 In the year 2017, we have the LEGO Batman Movie Series, Series 17 and LEGO Ninjago Movie SeriesBeginning of year 2018, we see the LEGO Batman Movie Series 2 and Series 18 Now I would like to invite everyone to cast their vote for LEGO Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 poll statistics

The highly anticipated new Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts licenses finally made its way to CMFs with awesome excitement
41484361210_47761a3e89_o_d.jpg

This is the first ever LEGO Minifigures series to break new grounds to include the first ever 22 unique LEGO minifigures in a series. This new series is not the traditional LEGO Minifigures Series and instead TLG had brought us a splendid treat for Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts fans through this amazing minifigures' line up, featuring unique named characters. Despite some of the characters' rendition, it is welcoming to see most of the characters in their new attire as well as equipping them with new medium short legs for these 'child' characters in Year 1 to 2 during Hogwarts.

TLG had previously already indulged us with Batman Movie Series and Disney Series from their license theme. Well, for the minifigures theme to include the universe of Harry Potter characters and the new Fantastic Beasts characters without the need to buy a set is indeed marvelous. The LEGO Harry Potter theme had previously appeared from 2001 to 2004 where the minifigures are still in the traditional yellow minifigure tone. Then in 2005 to 2007, we start to see Harry Potter minifigures in flesh tone. I was one of the fortunate fans who had managed to buy LEGO Harry Potter sets when it was re-released from 2010 to 2011. Thereafter, we had not seen any Harry Potters sets until just recently where Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts are packaged together to form under the LEGO Wizarding World. I do not know if there will be a future series for this theme and the coining of Series 1 in this theme is merely to serve as a continuation if there is ever plans for one. Past licensed series are normally not just one-off. A note, large portion of the characters' references are linked to harrypotter.wikia.com for additional background information on the named characters.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the naming for all 22 minifigures, where applicable, that I have use for this review are likely to be official TLG minifigures naming for the LEGO Minifigures - Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1.

New medium movable short legs

42600915174_acc9a00269_o_d.jpg

A great highlight in this series is the new minifigure element of movable short legs. I had placed all three minifigures for height comparison. The new medium short minifigure is mid-tier between a regular and short legs minifigures. It can walk and sit like a regular minifigures where the short leg minifigures are not able to achieve. It is so versatile and useful, which helps to increase playability for the traditional short-leg minifigures. I noticed the traditional short-legs is still in circulation which will also bring me a thought, if the new part is meant to supersede the existing part or to complement the array of minifigures' parts. In this case, I really hope this new medium short legs will be made available in other LEGO themes as well.

Different new wand sticks
28424866687_b2b4af84a7_o_d.jpg

Another wonderful new highlight in this series is the inclusion of these new wands' parts. Among the 22 unique minifigures, there are 3 characters who don't wield a magical wand and they are Dobby, Jacob Kowalski and Credence Barebone. To my surprise, these new wands contain an extra piece and you will require to use some force to take the wands' mold apart. As of now, the new wands are available in six different colours and they are very useful minifigure accessory. The wands can be wielded forward like what I had done with my minifigures and it won't hurt the arm. I am very tempted to replace the oversize wands that I have in my current collection. These new wands are prove to be useful indeed. In addition, if you bought a box and bother to take it out in an organised manner. You will be amazed by the numbers of extra wands which will be useful to give you a head start to do your own replacement exercise subsequently.

Front view comparison of current LEGO Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 with the rest of the past CMFs series
28424867747_d710cea073_o_d.jpg

I have placed all 28 different minifigures packets as part of my overall comparison. From the above aerial image, you can see an impressive transformation of LEGO CMFs Series over the long course of time. It is so delightful to be able to see all of the assorted designs series at one glance. The LEGO Minifigures Theme is a force not to be reckoned with and remain a very strong contender in the TLG product range since 2010. 28 different releases including regional exclusives are not easy to replicate the craze in many LEGO CMFs followers. So, are you still following the CMFs craze since Day 1?

Take a closer look at the following images. This is the front view of the LEGO Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 packet, while this shows the back view of it. This is an image that shows the back view comparison for all of these packets.

Simple reminder to all of my regular CMFs readers. If you are intending to collect the precious and hard-to-find minifigures, hone your skills for the touch and feel method. This is an important skill set in order to locate the minifigures that you want without spending too much money by randomly acquire them, especially so when you are intending to buy large quantities. Your sole mission is to memorise and remember the minifigures assortments for each of the specialised designs. Isolate and identify the most unique accessory or accessories for the particular minifigure. From there, eliminate the torso, head and legs and feel for the other parts. The sole disadvantage of this method is that much time would be wasted if the minifigures that you are looking for have been taken from the box. You might also end up with sore numb thumbs after feeling them. Please be careful and treat the packets with respect when you do the above. Reason being, there are many fragile and soft parts in this series.

The first 16 minifigures are dedicated to the Harry Potter books' characters while the next 6 minifigures are dedicated to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It's very uncommon for TLG to dedicate 2-in-1 theme in a single release even though I must admit it is a welcoming and yet stretch move.

As you flip to the back of the promotional poster, you will notice a set of simple instructions to guide those who are not familiar with the fixing of minifigures' accessories built and cape placement. These are some form of basic instructions to guide our very young builders who may not be too familiar with these building parts. The simple illustration is to ensure those minifigures are fixed correctly.

1) Harry Potter (Hogwarts Outfit)
42575788134_f093bdca19_o_d.jpg

Without further ado, let's bring out the first licensed minifigure design from this series. This the main protagonist and leading character based on JK Rowling's Harry Potter books. I grew up with Harry Potter movies, similar to Lord of The Rings movies back in 2000. I had unfortunately missed LEGO Harry Potter sets then, as these were in my dark ages. Back in 2010, I had a chance to rekindle with LEGO Harry Potter and this time round, the brand new Wizarding World in 2018. Harry Potter had appeared a total of 25 different variants till this date and is arguably the most common minifigure ever released. Despite of its numerous re-releases, this is actually the first short leg equivalent of Harry Potter and is donned in the Hogwarts robe outfit.  Harry Potter was a half-blood wizard, one of the most famous wizards of modern times. He was the only child and son of James and Lily Potter who are both members of the original Order of the Phoenix. Harry's birth was overshadowed by a prophecy and this caused the Potter family to go into hiding. Lord Voldemort made his first vain attempt to circumvent the prophecy when Harry was an infant. During that attempt, he murdered Harry's parents as they tried to protect him, but this unsuccessful attempt led to Lord Voldemort's first downfall. This downfall marked the end of the First Wizarding War, and to Harry henceforth being known as the "Boy Who Lived" which will lead to a series of blockbuster movies ever since.

The parts assortment are slightly above average. The medium short legs for the minifigure is very well designed and I prefer this black suave hairstyle much over than the older appearance. The white owl is a great re-introduction and owls from the Harry Potter theme are coated with nice details. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

2) Hermione Granger
43293905481_3aed5f13a4_o_d.jpg

The next in line is Hermione Granger in medium short legs. Hermione Granger was a Muggle-born witch. At a very young age, she learned that she was a witch, and had been accepted into Hogwarts School. She was sorted into Gryffindor House. Hermione Granger possessed a brilliant academic mind and proved to be a gifted student in almost every subject that she studied. She is the original trio which accompanied Harry Potter in their adventures. Hermione Granger had appeared a total of 10 different variants till this date.

The parts assortment are above average. The hairpiece is a suitable match for her in her Hogwarts robe outfit. I believe this is her pet cat - Crookshanks and it is a brand new cat design among the recent releases of new cats. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

3) Ron Weasley
42390164495_158584ec7a_o_d.jpg
The next minifigure is the muddleheaded Ron Weasley in medium short legs. Ron Weasley was a pure-blood wizard and is the sixth and youngest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley. He was also the younger brother of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and the elder brother of Ginny. Ron and his sibling lived at the Burrow. Ron had been accepted into Hogwarts School and was sorted into Gryffindor House. He is the original trio which accompanied Harry Potter in their adventures. Ron Weasley had appeared a total of 10 different variants till this date.

The parts assortment are above average. The new hairpiece is a nice match in his Hogwarts robe. I believe this is his pet rat - Scabbers and it is a brand new rat design among the recent mouse design in Series 18. You can take a closer look at these rats/mouses in past LEGO designs. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

4) Draco Malfoy
43293904581_a9df1e453a_o_d.jpg

The next minifigure is a partial antagonist, Draco Malfoy in medium short legs with his quidditch uniform outfit. Draco Malfoy was a pure-blood wizard and the only son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. The son of a Death Eater, Draco was raised to strongly believe in the importance of blood purity. He was sorted into Slytherin House. During his years at Hogwarts, he became friends with Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, and other fellow Slytherins. He also developed a rivalry with Harry Potter at a very early age.  Draco Malfoy had appeared a total of 8 different variants till this date.

Parts assortment
42390164045_cefb2c1456_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are slightly above average. The hairpiece is similar to his past minifigures' design, while the new quidditch uniform is a nice touch and it will serve as a team player in this latest 75956 Quidditch Match. It also has a new dark green broomstick also known as 'Nimbus 2001' as well as the brand new golden snitch.  You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

5) Luna Lovegood
43293904141_7f6df7a3fd_o_d.jpg

The next uncommon minifigure is my favourite character known as Luna Lovegood in her medium short legs. Luna Lovegood  was a witch, the only child and daughter of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. Her mother accidentally died during Luna's young age and she was subsequently raised by her father, editor of the magazine The Quibbler. Luna had been accepted into Hogwarts School and was sorted into Ravenclaw House. Luna Lovegood had appeared a total of 1 different variants till this date.

Parts assortment
29424312498_d33f01fff6_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are excellent. Luna wears a new hairpiece is similar to her past minifigures' design. She also have a new purple sling pouch and a minifigure's skirt around her waist. She also has a dual dazzling facial expression. I am particularly fond of the new 2x3 printed tile of the Quibbler which showcases her origin. At this instance, you might also thought this is a recycled torso in 2010 and I can assure you that the prints are different.  You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front and back view

6) Neville Longbottom
41484353280_bc7e113962_o_d.jpg

The next uncommon minifigure is known as Neville Longbottom in his medium short legs. Neville Longbottom is the only child and son of Frank and Alice Longbottom. His parents were well-respected Aurors and members of the original Order of the Phoenix, until they were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange. Neville was subsequently raised by his grandmother, Augusta Longbottom. Neville had been accepted into Hogwarts School and was sorted into Gryffindor House. Neville Longbottom had appeared a total of 2 different variants till this date.

Parts assortment
43293903491_4c22c1b7a4_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are above average. Neville wears a new hairpiece together with a light brown ear mufflers. There are exciting new parts for the Mandragora plant which is capable of high screech and crying and will have some useful botany usage in LEGO Town. I also almost forget that Neville comes with dual facial expression which shows him having his eyes shut down. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

7) Cho Chang
43293903101_bf6a294c42_o_d.jpg

The next first ever minifigure release is known as Cho Chang in her medium short legs. Cho Chang was a witch and a popular student in Hogwarts. She was a Seeker for the Ravenclaw's Quidditch team and a popular student. Cho began dating Cedric Diggory until the loss of his life in the Second Wizarding War and subsequently, she was also in a short romantic relationship with Harry Potter. This character is quite a popular character and I am sure it will be popular among fans' request for her first appearance in LEGO.

Parts assortment
41484352380_e5a900cf04_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are slightly above average. Cho has the same rubbery hairpiece like Series 12 - Spooky Girl. The owl is also a brand new variants. Her outfit is the typical Hogwarts uniform and her skin tone is light tan similar to Asian complexion which is quite incorrect based on the final design. Cho wasn't very tan and I was hoping that she could be slightly fairer. Her minifigure also include a grey skirting around her waist. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

8) Dean Thomas
43293902701_a6d095a0c1_o_d.jpg

The next minifigure release which has the same unique status as Cho Chang is none other than Dean Thomas in his medium short legs. Dean Thomas was a half-blood wizard. Dean was a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts. He was in the same year as the famous Harry Potter and played as a Chaser for his house's Quidditch team for a time. He has never appeared  in any LEGO minifigures before and will be a great addition for LEGO Harry Potter fans.

Parts assortment

The parts assortment are average. His outfit is in Hogwarts robe and his skin tone is light brown. The Gryffindor flag is a new printed piece which is connect to a brown stick. How I wish it could include an owl for this minifigure. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

9) Lord Voldemort
43293901461_cef13260df_o_d.jpg

This uncommon minifigure is also the main antagonist of Harry Potter universe and is known as other than Lord Voldemort aka Tom Riddle. He is also called as the Dark Lord or'You-Know-Who'. He  was a half-blood wizard, considered to have been the most powerful and dangerous dark wizard of all time. Lord Voldemort had appeared a total of 3 different variants till this date and in my personal opinion, this is one of the nicest design of this evil Dark Lord.

Parts assortment
43293901341_88e5a31a97_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are average. It has the new skirt torso and donned in dark green long robe. It's great to see a brand new snake mold and this nasty snake is known as Nagini. At first, I thought Nagini can't be held by a minifigure but I just discovered that it can be held at the rear point of the tail (at one specific point). Do note the snake can't be fitted onto studs or baseplate. The snake is one of the eight Horcrux of Voldemort and was the last to be slain by Neville Longbottom at the end of Wizarding War. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

10) Dobby
43244273792_394d7d0944_o_d.jpg

I am very glad to see Dobby, the house-elf in this re-release version of the minifigure's rendition. He served the Malfoy family and were treated cruelly by them. Dobby disobeyed his masters and tried to warn Harry Potter of the plot to have the Chamber of Secrets re-opened.  At the end of that school year, after Harry Potter had vanquished the memory of Tom Riddle and slayed the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, he tricked Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby. Harry Potter accomplished this by placing the Diary of Tom Riddle inside his own sock. Dobby had appeared a total of 2 different variants till this date and in my personal opinion, this version of Dobby appeared to be the most friendly looking.

Parts assortment
42390163265_79f7c3e9f4_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are above average. It has the wonderful new book piece which entitled Tom Riddle's Diary (one of Voldemort's Horcrux) and to increase the playability of Dobby's freedom, the printed 1x2 tile new sock was placed inside the book. It reenact the scene of 4736 Freeing Dobby pretty well. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view

11) Professor Sybill Trelawney
42390163155_c0ccab58c0_o_d.jpg

This uncommon minifigure is a teaching professor in Hogwarts and is known as Professor Sybill Trelawney. As a professor and a seer background, Sybill Trelawney taught in the Divination Classroom. She presumably also ran the Divination Workshop. Sybill had made many predictions over her time at Hogwarts. Professor Minerva McGonagall once claimed that she predicted the death of one of her students every year, none of whom had yet died. Professor Sybill Trelawney had appeared a total of 1 different variant till this date and in my personal opinion, this current version is the most detailed design ever.

Parts assortment
43244273232_79ce29c675_o_d.jpg

The parts assortment are excellent which include the new skirt piece design. It has a brand new hairpiece which is accurate with the movie character reference. It also has a tea cup accompanied with two separate components of the cup and saucer. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front and back view

12) Cedric Diggory
42390172185_7b702fb5df_o_d.jpg

The next new character ever  release is known as Cedric Diggory in his Triwizard Tournament outfit. He attended Hogwarts and was sorted into Hufflepuff House. During his time at school he was a prefect and captained the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, playing as Seeker. In his sixth year Cedric put his name forward to compete in the Triwizard Tournament. This charming suave character is quite a popular one and it might be a fan favourite who wants an official Cedric Diggory for the first time.

13) Professor Filius Flitwick
29424303588_a8928f7ce2_o_d.jpg

The next Hogwarts main teaching character has appeared in the series as well and is none other than Professor Filius Flitwick. During the First and Second Wizarding Wars, Professor Filius Flitwick opposed Lord Voldemort. He also opposed Dolores Umbridge, the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. In latter years, he partook in the Battle of Hogwarts and defeated many Death Eaters. He is the Charm Masters and Head of the Ravenclaw House. Professor Filius Flitwick had appeared a total of 1 different variant till this date and in my personal opinion, I somehow preferred the older version which I own.

The parts assortment are average. It include a new useful loud haler, a bow-tie and a skirting robe for male. It also has a new hairpiece which is accurate to the movie reference. I suppose the accessories is for him to be a referee or some sort in the Quidditch matches. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view.

14) Mad-Eye Moody
29424301508_eb237eb8ea_o_d.jpg

The next Hogwarts teaching character has quite a history and twist for the Mad-Eye Moody. Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody was a pure-blood wizard, considered to be the most famous Auror of all times. He was also an important member of the Order of the Phoenix during the First and Second Wizarding Wars. Moody served with distinction during the first conflict, gaining a considerable reputation, as well as losing an eye, leg, and part of his nose while fighting the Dark Arts. He accepted Albus Dumbledore's offer to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts, but was kidnapped by Barty Crouch Jr, who disguised himself as Moody. Mad-Eye Moody had appeared a total of 1 different variant till this date and in my personal opinion, this is a much improved version than its predecessor.

15) Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak)
42390168935_c5e88aa0f7_o_d.jpg

The next character-in-line is another variant of Harry Potter in invisibility cloak. This invisibility cloak was given by Professor Albus Dumbledore to Harry Potter. One of the significant usage was Harry Potter  seen sneaking up on Draco Malfoy by using the invisibility cloak in the Hogwarts Express in the Half Blood Prince movie. The invisibility cloak was first appeared in 4841 Hogwarts Express. It's certainly nice to have an interesting new variant of Harry Potter and please note that this Harry Potter is in its short non-movable legs.

The parts assortment are slightly above average due to the incredible large piece of invisibility cloak which can cover the entire minifigure without the head. 16) Professor Albus Dumbledore
29424297418_3d4c575cf9_o_d.jpg

Meet the Headmaster of Hogwarts. I am pleased to see Professor Albus Dumbledore in this release. He was a half-blood, Muggle-supporting wizard. He was most famous for his defeat of Gellert Grindelwald. He founded and led both the first and second Order of the Phoenix. Due to the fact that he had a keen mind and legendary power, Dumbledore became the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared. He was the wielder and the master of the Elder Wand and considered by many as the greatest Headmaster to ever grace Hogwarts. As he was about to die by a cursed ring, he planned his own death with Severus Snape. He was killed by Snape during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. Professor Albus Dumbledore had appeared a total of 4 different variants till this date and in my personal opinion, this is a much nicer version than the rest with the use of the new grey beard and hairpiece

The parts assortment are slightly above average. It has a new hairpiece with his cap on the top as well as the new skirt piece. The grey beard is a new piece if I recall correctly. 29424296708_5aa0891757_o_d.jpg

Now, the 16 characters of Harry Potters universe are completed. We are now moving on to the next section of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Meet the charming handsome Newt Scamander in this latest release. Early in life, Newt Scamander developed an interest in magical creatures, influenced by his mother's breeding of hippogriffs. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he was sorted into Hufflepuff House, and was sentenced to expulsion, though Albus Dumbledore protested his innocence. His new adventure began in New York where he had twists and turns with other new accompanying characters. Newt Scamander had appeared a total of 1 different variant till this date and both minifigures are equally charming and in this version, you can actually see this little green guy known as Bowtruckle who follows Newt closely.

The parts assortment are excellent. First of all, the new briefcase design is simply amazing as it can place 2 pieces of 1x1 round tile in a fitting manner when the briefcase can be opened and stored at ease. You get the brand new animal piece known as Niffler (attracted to shiny objects) who is real iconic in the first sequence of the movie. The Niffler is simply adorable and I am glad I don't have to stuck with the brick-built animal from the 71253 Dimensions playset. You can view more of the details from the all rounded view inclusive of front, side and back view.

As we are moving on to the next section of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Meet the witty Tina Goldstein. She was a half-blood American witch. She attended IIvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was sorted into Thunderbird house. After graduating from IIvermorny, she became an Auror for the Magical Congress of the United States of America. Tina was dismissed from her position as an Auror for magically assaulting the non-magic people - Mary Lou Barebone. She assaulted Mary Lou in front of witnesses as a response to her beating her adopted son, Credence Barebone. Tina was investigating the New Salem Philanthropic Society, against the orders of her superiors. She was reinstated after helping to arrest Gellert Grindelwald. Tina had appeared a total of 1 different variant till this date and both minifigures are equally nice.

The next character which we have in store, is a non-magic character known as Jacob Kowalski Returning home to the United States he found work in a cannery, but dream of becoming a baker. He went to Steen National Bank to apply for a loan but was turned down. While at the bank he met Newt Scamander who stopped in New York on his travels to find and document magical beasts. Through Newt he was exposed to the magical world, but had his memories wiped as was required by wizarding law. This is a welcoming new addition for one of this main characters being made available from the last movie.

20) Queenie Goldstein

The next magical character is the sister of Tina Goldstein and she is none other than Queenie Goldstein. She was a half-blood American witch. She attended IIvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was sorted into Pukwudgie house. After graduating from Ilvermorny, Queenie acquired a desk job in the Wand Permit Office within the Magical Congress of the United States of America. Because of her beauty, she was described by others as being a "bombshell". She was also an extremely accomplished Legilimens, someone with the ability to extract feelings and memories from another’s mind. I am very glad to see this nice character appearing into the Wizarding world and I don't have to buy sets to get to own this licensed character.

21) Credence Barebone
29424295328_02492b2e8d_o_d.jpg

The next mixed antagonist from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is Credence Barebone. He was an American wizard and born into the Lestrange family. He was the adopted son of Mary Lou Barebone, the leader of the New Salem Philanthropic Society, a No-Maj anti-witchcraft group. Credence had two adopted sisters, Chastity and Modesty. Credence was an Obscurial, a Witch or Wizard who developed a parasitical force known as an Obscurus through the repression of his or her magic. Credence was the oldest and longest-lived Obscurial known of the Wizarding world when most Obscurials die before their tenth birthday.

22) Percival Graves
42390180845_54bfa3ceaf_o_d.jpg

The final character in this series is the main antagonist from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and many could have first known him as Percival Graves. He was an Auror, Director of Magical Security and head of MACUSA's Department of Magical Law Enforcement. At some point, his identity was assumed by Gellert Grindelwald using Human Transfiguration. It is unknown if he was killed or kept in captivity during this time. In this case, we got ourselves two characters' in this packaging. He was a pure or half-blood wizard who was considered to be one of the most powerful and dangerous Dark Wizards of all time, considered to be surpassed only by Tom Riddle or Lord Voldemort in this case. A student at Durmstrang Institute, Grindelwald was expelled for twisted, dark experiments and near-fatal attacks on his fellow students. He later fostered a friendship with a young Albus Dumbledore, making plans to find the Deathly Hallows and lead a Wizarding revolution to end the International Statute of Secrecy, creating a benevolent global hierarchical order led by wise and powerful witches and wizards that dominated Muggles. Their partnership fell apart. Grindelwald left Britain and later stole the Elder Wand, proceeding alone with the planned revolution. Other than from this LEGO minifigure packet, Gellert can also be found in the upcoming 75951 Grindelward's Escape set.

My thoughts on the distribution ratio
28424869397_64ae8eca12_o_d.jpg
43293908541_14d96b09f4_o_d.jpg

Based on the distribution, I have achieved one full complete set of 22 one-of-a kind minifigures each, including the very rare Percival Graves which is extremely disappointing. I hate to rant but this distribution ratio is disappointing and I do not understand why that character need to be made so rare. TLG could easily give him an extra count and in this way, we can have two complete sets with just only 16 spares. Now instead of 16 spares, I am left with 38 spares now which is more than twice of the amount. I simply do not understand this logic and this is definitely one of the worst distribution ratio that I had ever seen.

My remaining spares based on 22 unique minifigures:

0 Percival Graves
Luna Lovegood (s)
1 Professor Sybill Trelawney (s)
Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) (s)
1 Credence Barebone (s)
Harry Potter (Hogwarts outfit) (s)
2 Hermione Granger (s)
2 Ron Weasley (s)
Draco Malfoy (s)
Neville Longbottom (s)
Cho Chang (s)
2 Dean Thomas (s)
2 Lord Voldemort (s)
2 Dobby (s)
2 Cedric Diggory (s)
2 Professor Filius Flitwick (s)
2 Mad-Eye Moody (s)
2 Professor Albus Dumbledore (s)
2 Newt Scamander (s)
2 Tina Goldstein (s)
2 Jacob Kowalski (s)
2 Queenie Goldstein (s)

Data Analysis
Distribution ratio will determine which minifigure will truly be popular. It is not hard to wonder that now the most incredible rare minifigure in this series is the inconspicuous villain,  Percival Grave. The next hard to find will definitely be the 2 in this series which are Luna Lovegood, Professor Sybill Trelawney, Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) and Credence Barebone. That's my best bet on which minifigures will be most popular. As there are no generic minifigures' for army builders to tap on, I guess it all boils down to what new parts or accessories to you need to amass. I am sure everyone is eyeing for Percival Grave (suddenly became the hottest character in town), after the Series 18 - Classic Police Officer which has the probability of getting it in 1.66% in a mint untouched sealed box. Well, I strongly believe most of us will be looking for this priceless minifigure for the sake of hoarding it or simply aiming to complete it for the purpose of 22 unique minifigures. So, what's the safest strategy to get it? Just buy a box and be done with it and thank goodness there are many new useful hairpieces, headpieces and accessories. Don't bother to pay high amount for this ridiculous pricing but I am sure the sellers will be pricing this minifigure at all time high since this is one out of 60 in a sealed box.

In short, I am extremely disappointed  with this current distribution arrangement. What do you think of it? Do you like the overall distribution count?

To conclude, based on the probability demonstrated by this review, as an example, here are the summarised results,

High probability
1) Harry Potter (Hogwarts outfit) (s)
2) Hermione Granger (s)
3) Ron Weasley (s)
4) Draco Malfoy (s)
5) Neville Longbottom (s)
6) Cho Chang (s)
7) Dean Thomas (s)
8) Lord Voldemort (s)
9) Dobby (s)
10) Cedric Diggory (s)
11) Professor Filius Flitwick (s)
12) Mad-Eye Moody (s)
13) Professor Albus Dumbledore (s)
14) Newt Scamander (s)
15) Tina Goldstein (s)
16) Jacob Kowalski (s)
17) Queenie Goldstein (s)
Total range: 85%
Each: 5%

Low probability
1) Luna Lovegood (s)
2) Professor Sybil Trelawney (s)
3) Harry Potter (Invisibility Cloak) (s)
4) Credence Barebone (s)
Total range: 13.33%
Each: 3.33%

Rare probability (which I encourage you to just buy a box and be done with it)
1) Percival Graves
Total range: 1.66%
Each: 1.66%

It is a beautiful treat for fans of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts to own them in CMFs series
43293908321_4be7460090_o_d.jpg

The  LEGO Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 will be launching on the 1st August 2018 (worldwide)
28424869167_cde6d6b5b5_o_d.jpg

To conclude, the LEGO Minifigures - Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 Minifigures Series 1 has break new CMFs ground by achieving the impossible of racking 22 unique minifigures' design in a single release with the combination of two iconic movie licenses of having new licensed characters in their variant outfits. The level of sheer expansion of the CMFs has greatly made it to new realms and Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts being one of the premium LEGO Licensed Theme. It has indeed attracted many new and old fans all over the world. has continued successfully surprised us with another new level of design creativity. It greatly excites me for this licensed theme and not many licensed themes excite me this much. With this possibility, I wonder if there's ever an opportunity to see superheroes from Marvel, DC or even Star Wars for that matter ever appear in the CMFs theme? Time will tell. Other than the positive nudge about this series, the greatest sole disappointment in this series is the terrible distribution ratio. Other than that, it could have been an almost perfect ten.

Traditional LEGO CMFs series always appeal widely to the masses. One thing for certain is TLG is not really intending to just focus on the traditional stuff. There are already clear signs in the shift in their marketing and design approach. Time will tell if the change in the LEGO CMFs could sustain and continue to appeal to general public and LEGO fans. It is not an easy theme to continue create, design and introduce many new creative and original designs for each new series. The LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series or known as LEGO Minifigures Theme shall always be a rare commanding class of their own, which distinguish themselves from regular LEGO Theme and special releases. It has been a very long standing tradition and yet they are able to retain the charm and excitement, until today and I am not out of interest yet.

Now with a total of 438 minifigures released for the entire Series 1 to 18, the LEGO Movie Series, LEGO Simpsons Series 1 to 2, Disney LEGO Minifigures, LEGO Batman Movie series 1 to 2, LEGO Ninjago Movie Series and the current LEGO Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series, not including Mr. Gold which unfortunately I do not have the blessings or lucky stars to own it till this date, and the special exclusive Toy Soldier and Zombie Skateboarder minifigures that can only be obtained through The Minifigures Character Encyclopedia books respectively. At such accelerated releasing rate, I wonder what is everyone's display plan and if they can keep up with the display shelving area for future expansion. For myself, I had already done a nice display for my own CMFs and with this new series, I had maxed out my current display. I will need to work something out in order to accommodate future releases. Meanwhile, I really wonder what exciting new series will TLG have for us. Only time will tell and let's be patient about it. I am confident that it will be worth the wait as always.

Please note that all opinions and content shown in this Eurobricks pictorial review is from 'WhiteFang' and is not meant to represent LEGO official views. It is purely stated to share as a vantage point of a reviewer.

Please note that the The LEGO Minifigures - Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Series 1 contain the placement of LEGO spare parts/accessories - spare wands.

Summary review
Playability: 10/10 (New licensed characters' designs from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts that can be integrated across many new and existing themes/settings.)
Design: 10/10 (New medium size movable short legs, wands and many other exciting hairpieces, torsos and accessories.)
Price: 6/10 (Pricing notch for SRP is not out but I guess it will be hovering around SGD$6.50 and I highly disliked the distribution ratio.)
Overall: 8.7/10 (Ready yourself for this new amazing Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts minifigures to see such an exciting licensed minifigure theme. Definitely worth the wait)

I gave it a "5" based on my Review Score Card. What about yours?

Awesome review as always!

Dobby IS my favorite minifig from the series :D I need a keychain of it as well, hah. I like Dumbledore very much too.

And the back of Luna's hairpiece is superb!

I think the previous Newt face looked a lot more like Eddie Redmayne :D

This series is such a mixed bag. Some figures come with awesome, multi use printed torso's, headdresses and utensils (looking at you Prof. Trelawny) while others are flat out boring (Sorry Cedric). I'm saying this as a non Harry Potter fan, having read none of the books or seen any of the films. So I am basing this purely on quality of the figures, not on their desirability or 'finally this character'-factor.

Thorough review as allways WF.

Overall this collection seems above average (indeed lots of new parts). But I'm disappointed by the "unsharp" logo on the gryffindor torsos.

Also the grey Hogwarts' sweaters do not longer have a logo which I find a little sad (although it is more realistic). This is somehow compensated by the fact that one can collect the grey sweaters with accents (tie and colors around belly) from all four houses of Hogwarts now for the first time (through this series and the 2018 Harry Potter sets).

Always looking forward to these reviews (ever since reading the review of series 1)! :sweet:

Wonderful set, and I got a vision, with this one and relevant sets, fans can represent  the lastest book of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", with comic or stop-motion Animation.

BTW, the new short-movable-legs is a good design, can be use in many series, e.g. star wars. looking forward to see its further apprication, as the new skirt 36036 does.

Amazing review @WhiteFang

I am glad that all the minifigures with animals are 'common' since I am only interested to get those. And if I buy only those with animals I also get 5 out of 6 wand colours. :sweet:

Of all the medium short legs, Luna and Cho's plain medium legs should be the most useful since they have no prints.

Another great review of cmfs @WhiteFang! Love the pictures!

The highlight of this series is the movable short legs. So I'm hoping LEGO can come out with the Hobbits dwarves cmf with these legs. (Who's with me?) haha.

I think The Lord of the Rings too deserves a come back like this series. Let's hope for the best.

Outstanding review and pictures as always, @WhiteFang:thumbup: Thank you for the effort and care you put into this and all your CMF reviews.

In relation to Chan's skin tone, I think you mean 'complexion', not 'complexity'.

Thanks for the picture showing minifigures with the three leg sizes: small, medium (articulated) and standard (articulated). Could you please post a picture showing plain black short, medium and standard legs side-by-side without torsos and heads? It would help to show the height difference.

As always... Outstanding review. I love that you continue to show the break-down from each package so we can see exactly what comes with each figure. Especially with this series, I had no idea they were doing multiple hair pieces for a couple of the figures. Well done, sir!

Thank you for another amazingly throrough and playful CMF review @WhiteFang

Overall there’s a lot to love in this series while there’s also a number of annoyances. It’s great to get some new characters like Cedric and Cho even if they’re not the most amazing (Cedric is just a bit bland with a dud accessory, and Cho has the wrong skin colour full stop). And the refreshed designs like Moody, Trelawney, and Gambonbledore are fantastic.

However some of the inconsistencies between the CMF minifigure design and regular set minifigure design bug me. I get that a lot of the CMF budget goes into the amazing new parts, but characters like Dumbledore would absolute have backprinting if he was in a set, and likely reverse face printing as well. Also they deliberately gave teachers legs in the Great Hall set so that they could be sat down for playability’s sake, but are kids expected not to play with the teachers wearing skirt pieces from the CMF in the Great Hall? It’s a bit of a conundrum because I prefer the skirt-as-robe pieces to legs, but in this case I wish they’d included an alternate skirt for McGonagall at least. Maybe it’s asking to much.

Furthermore, they’ve used the medium legs for Neville who is clearly based on years 1-2 (was it the first film? It’s been too long now since I’ve seen those). It’s in an easy fix and it’s great to get as many of the medium leg pieces as possible - but still odd.

Having Percieval Graves be a chase figure is infuriating. He’s a desirable character with a nice hair piece who is very central to the first Fantastic Beasts film. He shouldn’t be a chase figure. If you’re going to have them at all, chase figures should be some random variant, like maybe the invisibility cloak Harry. The Classic Policeman was a fine chase figure because he was a bit dull and a reprint anyhow.

I also love/hate that Nagini. Love because it looks cool and accurate-ish, hate because it doesn’t look like LEGO at all and now that you’ve said it only has one connection point, even moreso non-LEGO-like.

Hermione looks nothing like Hermione, but she has nice useful pieces all round so who cares.

At this point I’m just happy that I’m lucky to have bought LEGO Harry Potter sets all the way through from the beginning so that I can mix and match my personal favourite parts from different characters to make the best ones possible. It’s unrealistic to expect LEGO to be perfect every time.

Whitefang done it again. You've always been one of the reviews I look forward to with each new CMF release.

Sybille Trelawney remains my firm favourite in this series. Even after realising she and my other favourite, Dumbledore, has no back printing. Love Trelawney's hairpiece. Love Dumbledore headpiece.

The three main characters - Harry, Ron and Hermione - is wonderful. Each with a variation of their school uniform. And printed legs. Hermione's robe printing is what the quidditch minifigs should be. Robe-like attired printed in both torso and leg assembly.

Flitwick makes my list. For his must-have hairpiece and lovely torso piece.

Cho-chang's skirt is messy compared to spooky-girl minifig. And her skin is weird. But I gotta have that Ravenclaw torso assembly.

I was confident this CMF series would be the first one I'd collect them all. But after looking at them in detail, maybe next series. Still I'm gonna buy at least half a dozen minifigs from this set. And what a relief for me Grindelwald is not on my wanted list, would have had to pay thru the nose for him.

There's much excitement for the medium legs but I had them like more than 2 years ago from chinese knockoff brands.

The most surprising piece of new element for me ... is the wands still in the sprue element, BEFORE they are pulled apart. This element is one I like to experiment with in MOCs ... as a decorative ornate element.

I find 10/10 for design too high, when you consider that none of the skirted characters have any back printing. All three would have been improved with some back printing. Similarly, Harry's feet are printed on the front, outside and back only and not two colour molded - again a design issue - so don't look anywhere near as good as Dobby's.

Excellent review! I especially love the comparisons with the existing minifigure depictions of certain characters. These nicely show how much LEGO has progressed over the years... The Dumbledore minifig for instance or the Trelawny or Mad-eye Moody one are hardly recognizable!

All in all this is a fantastic series, and one that I am hugely looking forward to acquiring!

Thank you very much for your thoughts and comments for this review. I appreciate the forthcoming comments for the review. I am also glad you had enjoyed reading and viewing those images. It is fun to put this altogether. I have updated the review slightly including scanning a better resolution of the posters and packet. :sweet:

I get what you meant by the lack of sharpness. In this case, it is a silhouette of the tiny insignia on the torso and it is not as sharp as before where the insignia was quite big.  Yes, the lack of their insignia is quite disappointing without the Houses' origin for the grey sweaters but yet is generic enough.

I am sure you will find suitable parts for your future MOCs and I am looking forward to see what amazing things you can do with them.

Indeed, I am looking forward to see more of the new skirt pieces expanding into other themes/sets as well.

You ought to have all of the six different colour wands. It is so much nicer to have so many variants. Apart from Luna and Cho's plain medium legs, Neville also have generic black legs too.

Me included! However, I don't think it will happen anytime soon especially since LOTR sales didn't do so well previously plus there isn't any upcoming movies to tie-in.

To sum it up, no matter what nice or bad things you felt about the series, it is all about customising and making it right to your own personal preference. I don't think TLG can be so perfect in their design expectations as many of us had various level of expectations as well.

I did not aware of the clone brands which is capable of doing such part. I am glad TLG had done their own version. I am glad the wands' original state interest you as much as it surprises me too.

10/10 is definitely on the high side and scoring is quite personal (based on my own judgment). I equate all as a whole series as it is. I don't think it fare badly on the design aspect for the minifigures despite of lack of back printing for some minifigures as it also compensate with new parts/accessories. If I were to rate the minifigure individually, then it won't be a case of 10/10 each and I will probably take an average out of it. I am viewing as the whole of the series and minor dissatisfaction on the design is not enough to sway me to give a lower score. Hence, I stand by my own personal rating. If one does not agree the scoring or rating, the person may take it up and express in the form of their own reviewing where the person is free to express his/her opinion.

Glad the past minifigures had helped to show the progress in the minifigures' designs for the very same characters through the course of time.

I dislike the fact the TLG is creating a shortage for collectors by having only 1 Percival Graves per box.  What do they hope to achieve by creating rarity?  Also, the skin tone of Cho Chang is incorrect.

These aside, I appreciate the comparison of previous generations for HP minifigs vs current generation of HP minifigs.  The presence of Diagon Alley is a nice touch too.

@WhiteFang First of all congratulations for the review, 10/10.

Do we know the actual position in the box of the exclusive minifigure? If I remember right on CFM 18 was always the same spot for the police....
