  1. This is my entry for the Middle Earth Contest, Category B. Retaking Moria With the death of the Balrog and the overthrow of Modor, many of the dwarves of the Iron Hills and Thorin's Hall set out to retake Moria. OoC: I didn't have a lot of time to make this bigger, but when I read the criteria for Cat B I knew I had to build something along these lines. I hope you like it.
  2. Bilbo, stumbling in the dark, evades the creature Gollum and his blood-curdling screames for his "precious", while above, the Dwarves fight their way through the Goblin hordes.
  3. This is by far my favourite part in the book and the first movie: Riddles in the Dark. I don't owe a bilbo minifigure so in stead I used Merry or Sam i think. enjoy, dagger_of_time
  4. Here's probably my only entry for Category A: The Missing Set. I chose to do Mount Doom. I'm not really sure why LEGO never did this scene, seeing how it is the most important of the movie. This comes three play features, all coinciding with the movie, as are the minifigure's outfits: Sam's dirty, and without all the equipment printed on his actual, LEGO-made torso, and Frodo's dirty and torn. Setname: 79022 Mount Doom Parts: 201 Minifigures: 3 Price: $24.99 The play features, like a handle for Frodo to hold onto. A lever, that if you pull... ...this will happen. And finally, a launcher that fires, well... fire. ;)
  5. Door of During Price: $69.99 Includes: Gandalf, Gimli, Frodo, and Pippin Play Features: Help Pippin skip stones across the water with the Flick-fire missiles! Help Gandalf sit while he ponders the spell to open the Door of Durin! Crash the trees in front of the doors after the heroes enter the Mines of Moria! Notes: Sticker sheet not shown, Watcher monster sold separately. Please know that I am entering this more as a sarcastic jab at Lego's tendency towards certain infuriating trends than as a real set. I did not have enough time to work on a realistic set, but I couldn't pass up the chance to point out some Lego flaws in a fun way Like, managing to fit flick-fire missiles in sets where they don't make sense (Attack on Weathertop), sometimes having lame play features when all the people really want are the minifigs (Attack of the Wargs), and always including the same characters over and over again when we would rather have different ones (Gandalf, Frodo, and Gimli... seriously, how many times have they been put in sets?).
  6. Hi all, This is my entry for the Middle Earth Contest: Frodo and Sam reach the top of Mount Doom. When they look down, they see the burning cracks of Doom. Frodo hesitates to throw the One ring into the fire, and puts the ring around his finger. Gollem suddenly appears and jumps on his back. The invisible Frodo and Gollem struggle. Gollem manages to get the Ring by biting of Frodo's finger, but in joy of his regained precious, he falls with the Ring into the fire. DSC_2070 by Tuinman1980, on Flickr DSC_2053 by Tuinman1980, on Flickr Replay this defining scene with this set! Let Gollem jump onto the back of Frodo with this catapult! Let Gollem (or Frodo - you decide the fate of Middle Earth!) fall down the cracks of Mount Doom. Pull the pin and the floor of the cliff will collapse. DSC_2051 by Tuinman1980, on Flickr The cliff front side: DSC_2029 by Tuinman1980, on Flickr The cliff from the other side: DSC_2061 by Tuinman1980, on Flickr This set comes with 3 minifigures: Frodo with a scared face, Sam looking worried and Gollem. DSC_2055 by Tuinman1980, on Flickr The idea of depicting this scene has been on my mind for months. MEC was the reason to start building it. I tried to make a set in the lower price range. This one is about 200 - 250 pieces (didn't count, just a guess). It's my first MOC on EB by the way. I hope you like. C&C welcome.

[MOC] Goblin Pirates (79010 Alt Build)

167C Here's my latest which is an alternate build of The Goblin King Battle (79010) I think it didn't turn out too bad considering it is an alt-build. What do you think? Blog Post Rebrickable Link
  8. This has been brought up in the forum multiple times, but I don't think it has its own topic yet... we still have a lot of important characters from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings who haven't gotten their own minifigures yet. The minifigures for the third Hobbit wave have already been revealed, and we're not sure if we're getting another LotR wave yet, so we have a pretty good idea of what we're missing. Here are the minifigures I'd like to see in future sets, by order of least to greatest importance: Pippin and Merry in Armor- So far, these hobbits have only appeared in casual Fellowship attire, but they both play major roles fighting for Gondor and Rohan in Return of the King. Pippin would fit right into a D2C Minas Tirith set, and Merry would be the perfect character to round out a Fell Beast set. Old Bilbo- I actually have a custom-made Old Bilbo minifigure myself (I made it for a LEGO Ideas project), but I doubt that we'll get him in any future sets. Gondor Soldier- Half of Return of the King basically revolved around these people. They deserve their own battle pack by now. Faramir- He'd go into the Minas Tirith set along with Pippin and a few Gondor Soldiers. Bolg- They made new hairpieces for the orcs in the upcoming Lake-Town set but they couldn't even make Bolg? How does that even make sense? Random Mirkwood Elf- So far the elf soldiers we've gotten aren't very movie-accurate. They should have replaced Legolas with one of these in the Battle of Five Armies set. Random Iron Hills Dwarf- They should release a $30 battle pack with just these guys. Eowyn- We already have Arwen and Tauriel. Galadriel is coming soon. Why, then, has LEGO decided not to give us an Eowyn figure yet? Balrog- A brick-built Balrog would be able to be an entire set in itself. Tom Bombadil- Just kidding. Witch-King- By now, LEGO simply has no excuse for not releasing a Witch-King minifigure. We even have the Mouth of Sauron already, for crying out loud! They can't end the LotR theme without this character appearing at least once; he's just too important. What about you? Are there any other Tolkien characters who you think deserve their own figures?

    Hello from Colorado

Hello everyone! I've been visiting this website for quite some time now, as well as many other Lego related sites. I've been a Lego enthusiast, fan, addict & AFOL, off and on for probably 20 years... I've gone through a couple "dark periods", but i'm finally in it for the duration... Don't know if I have a favorite theme, but I seem to always come back to Classic Castle, Classic Pirates and Classic Space, in no particular order. As far as current themes, my favorite is unquestionably Lord of the Rings / Hobbit.... followed by Pirates of the Caribbean. Others that I've really dug are Aquanauts / Hydronauts / Aqua Raiders, Vikings and Western.... I seem to gravitate towards the, what I describe as, the "escapist" themes... I also really like a lot of the MOC's that I've seen here, and at the Classic-Castle, & Classic Pirates web sites. There sure seems to be a lot of talent here, and one of the main reasons I'm joining up here is that I hope to learn a lot about building my own creations... Looking forward to posting! 10. Here are some custom figures that I made for a LEGO Ideas project: Old Bilbo is shown here in the outfit he wore at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring. He's a pretty important character in the trilogy, and I'm surprised that LEGO hasn't made him yet. Old Bilbo by lancethecat, on Flickr Gandalf is decked out in full Santa garb, with a red cloak to match. Santa Gandalf by lancethecat, on Flickr If you like these figures and want to see them in a future set, there's a link to my project below.

    Balins Tomb

Hello All, Here is my entry into the Middle Earth Lego OIympics over on Mocpages. Barad Dur Bracket: Category: "A shadow lurks in the dark. We cannot get out...they are coming." I am facing the very talented opponent Josh Walter, and his amazing entry. Man, I have to stop with these last minute entries, they are robbing me of all my sleep. :P So this was built in around 3 hours, I did not get as much detail as I wanted, but I am alright with it. So this is a creation from both my imagination and from the movie. The lines in the floor, and some of the minifigs were all from my imagination, but the rest I tried to stay true to the movie. Enjoy! Artistic Photo, no photoshop! Soli Deo Gloria! ~Matthew~
  13. Hey everyone! I'm really excited to share my very first Lego stop motion animation with you. I spent about 2 weeks on the project as a whole, and I must say it was a lot harder than I expected. This first animation is only 12 fps, but I'm hoping to bump it up to 24 fps next time around. Any and all feedback would be great!
  14. So now that the sets from the second Hobbit wave have been out for awhile, which is everyone's favorite and why? Personally I am torn. I think Mirkwood Elf Army has some nice figures but the build's not that impressive. Lake-town Chase has a much better build that is more accurate to the film but the figures aren't as good (but they still are very nice). I like that Dol Guldur Ambush has hair and ears for the orcs and Beorn is a nice minifigure, and of course Dol Guldur Battle has some nice minifigs as well with Azog and Radagast, but neither DG set has a great build imo. I think overall I would have to go with Lake-town Chase as my favorite with MEA in a close second. If MEA would of included an armored elf or two I think that would of hands down been my favorite set. Usually I am a huge army builder fan but as it stands MEA just has too many issues; Thranduil is great if you buy the set once but beyond that is redundant and hard to use, the walls are pathetically short, and 3 elven scouts are too many when they are all the same imo. So, what is your guys' favorite wave 2 Hobbit set?
  15. Right now it doesn't appear we will be getting a 2014 LotR wave and the theme may possibly be done. I am hopeful we will get a wave next year as there is just too much missing. If not though, what would be the ONE thing you want to see come from the LotR theme? This can be anything not done yet.. a minifigure, a structure, a creature (brick built or molded), etc. Basically what is the one thing you would want to see before the line ends? Personally I think it's a Gondor Soldier for me. A nice Gondor printed torso would all me to make my own Pippin and Faramir in Gondor attire as well as obviously covering the one big faction still missing from the Middle-Earth Lego universe. Eowyn can be created using existing parts and a Balrog/Fel Beast/Mumakil can all be brick built and MOC'd. Really the only major character that can't easily be re-created is the Witch King, though technically we could have him in his normal Nazgul hooded form and we will get his ghost form with the Hobbit wave. I feel like Lego not making a Gondor soldier does not leave us with any easy options to make our own since the white tree print and helm are so unique.
  16. Hey guys! This is my first day on this forum and I would like to show an animation which i made. It's a silent movie.I'm from Russia and I also added english subtitles so you can understand the text insertion. Enjoy! And if you like that, please subscribe.Thank's! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AknHKofLffk
  17. After looking at some of my LotR characters I decided I would go one step further in making them stand out by giving them hair pieces. The problem is I am not sure which are the best hair options. The main characters I am looking at right now are Eomer and Theoden. Eomer in particular needs to stand out because the cloak alone just isn't doing it for me. I have tons of other minifigures with his face, torso, and helm serving as generic Rohan Soldiers and the cloak is the only thing I use to differentiate Eomer from them. Theoden is already pretty unique with his brown and gold armor but I would like a hair piece for him as well when he isn't all geared up. What have others found to be the best hair piece for these two characters? I was looking some up on BL and it seems the female hair pieces are the best for Eomer as he has fairly long hair? Which is the closest match to his hair in the movie though? I also would like to find some better hair for Gandalf and Lurtz if anyone has any good suggestions for them, though they aren't as important. Their current hair doesn't really look that good and I am sure there are better options out there.

    Narsil in Rivendell

Hello everyone, my younger son has come up with a nice idea that we completed together: Narsil in Rivendell: It might not be totally clear, but the guy standing behind the remains of the sword is meant to be an elven statue. That's it for now. Have a wonderful 2014!
  19. Here's my Uruk-Hai army. It's just one group of minifigures but shown in two shots. I'm not a purist, so you'll see some custom parts such as some BrickWarriors helmets and BrickArms pole arms. Saruman wanted his army back, but I told him to #~@I< off! http://www.brickshel...y_-_montage.jpg And here's my Uruk general and champion: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/AmperZand/Fantasy/uruk_general_and_champion_-_cropped.jpg
  20. I know this topic has been brought up a lot in other threads, but I figured it would be nice to have a thread to discuss it in greater depth. With that said I am wondering what people's thoughts are on army builders/battle packs that include a unique named character. I know a lot of people defend them because they say the unique character appeals to kids (and AFOLS) who might otherwise not buy the set. I just don't understand that mentality. Obviously if the army builder is the ONLY set to contain a character like Eomer people will get at least one of them if they are a fan of the theme since it's the only way to get him. Lego could easily circumvent this by just offering Eomer in another set like Helm's Deep. Sure it sucks for people who can't afford Helm's Deep, but it's no different for them trying to get Theoden, King of the Dead, Grima, Haldir, etc. who only appear in expensive sets. I think even without a unique character army builders would sell extremely well, and possibly even better without them! Lego just has to be smart about it and put special prints or molds in for the grunts which would be exclusively available in the army builder. That way they still have the appeal of offering something unique, but they don't discourage people from buying multiples because they don't want all the extra Eomers or Thranduils. Do kids honestly look at a set and say "hey, this set only has 4 Uruk-hai and 2 Rohan Soldiers, I'm not buying it cause it doesn't contain any unique characters!" I know when I was a kid I ALWAYS wanted to buy tons of soldiers, even if my funds didn't allow it. I actually HATED when companies would not do the grunts like Storm Troopers, Foot Soldiers, etc. I think Lego might lose out on a FEW sales of army builder sets if they don't include a named character, but I think it would more than be made up for by all the people buying so many extra because they are "true" army builders. What are you guys thoughts for/against named characters in battle packs? How do the children in your life feel about it, or did you feel about it as a kid yourself?
  21. [CUUSOO] The Forbidden Pool - Combining Lord of the Rings and the Classic Forestmen Dear all, this is my very first CUUSOO project. The Lord of the Rings has taken me out of the dark ages, but one thing that I find lacking after the first two waves was a representation of the men of Gondor. Faramir, in particular, is my favourite Tolkien character, and I hope to see an official LEGO version of him in the future. This project is based on Henneth Annun, The Window on the Sunset, as it appeared in The Two Towers. I experimented a lot with the set and exchanged some play features - from a changing coloration of the inner waterfall (as featured in the book) to the current version with a secret entrance. My favourite LEGO sets as a child were the Forstemen sets, and Faramir's Rangers and their hideout reminded me of the green forest dwellers of the late 80s. I think this set is a realistic proposal for CUUSOO since it is not overly large and has the potential appeal to audiences from Lord of the Rings fans to young LEGO fans. I appreciate any comments! Cheers, Michael Link to the CUUSOO project: http://lego.cuusoo.c...deas/view/45646 Overview of the set. Henneth Annun by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr I initially played with the idea of having a two-layered pool with a lever that shot fish around but abandoned it due to ever-incraesing piece count. Henneth Annun - entrance through Window on the West by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr Secret side entrance. Secret entrance by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr The floor can be pushed down to create a slope leading into the lower level of the cave. I intend to improve on this section once I have more bricks at my disposal. Ideally, I will have more furniture on the upper level and a hidden trapdoor leading down. This would also free some space on the bottom level for weapon racks and a smaller chamber to interrogate Gollum. Secret door by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr This play feature features the Ranger ambush on Gollum. A sliding plate moves the Ranger out of his cover to face Gollum. Ambush by Elessar II Aragorn, on Flickr I'm not satisfied with the look of the map on the crate, yet - again due to limited space caused by the larger than intended slope. 22. The Adventure's of Bombur the dwarf Join Bombur and a group of various other dwarves on their mission to reclaim the Lonely pie. On his journey he will face many evil creatures such as orcs, goblins and giant spiders. Disclaimer: If you are a massive Tolkien fan you must be warned about the content of this comic. It does not fit into the Lord of the Rings timeline and is completely canon!
  23. As both a fan of the Lord of the Rings and of yellow minifigs, I had to mod my minifigs of the Fellowship of the Ring to change their skin tone. Along the way, I also added some third party pieces such as the BrickForge staff and sword for Gandalf, and the BrickArms sword for Boromir. I actually created these minifigs a long time ago but have only recently got the IT necessary to post the pic below. Since the picture was taken, I have made a few additional changes such as removing Frodo's tear. Hope you like the minifigs!

    Review: 5000202 Elrond

When I first got news of this figure, I knew I had to own one. What Tolkien fan in their right mind would pass up a Last Alliance Elrond minifigure? However, it was a preorder bonus so I had to dish out a fair amount for him figure. Keep reading for my 25th review special! Set Information: Name: Elrond Set Number: 5000202 Pieces: 6 Price: Preorder Bonus Ages: 6+ Minifigs: 1 Theme: Lord of the Rings Year of Release: 2012 Bricklink Brickset Flickr Set Baggy: The front of the bag has an action pose of Elrond over what could be actual movie footage. It's to small to tell. Then we have the Lord of the Rings banner, Saurons middle finger with the ring on it. Flipping the bag over, we have the usual safety spiel. However, there is no clear line where the color print didn't go, so we can't see the contents of the bag. The baggy is the exact same size as the Darth Maul promo polybag, which is slightly smaller than a normal polybag. Contents: There are only six parts in the bag, and no extras, but I'm already drooling over that sword! Minifigure: So, here he is, out of the bag, and in his full glory. He does look good doesn't he? I have no complaints what-so-ever about him, but let's go a bit more in-depth. Starting with a straight on shot, the first thing that jumps out at me are the colors. We have gold, a soft green, and a darker blue. They all work together perfectly here, capturing the essence of the costume. LEGO did an excellent job making the design simple but still keeping that detail. He has the same hair as Legolas and Haldir, but in dark brown. Notice he has a short cape rather than the long one featured on the bag. I'm still unsure as to why this happened, but I'll be emailing LEGO to see if I can get a long one. The armor continues on the back, even though we don't see it in the movie, I'm sure it looked something like this. A side-by-side comparison of the minifigure and Hugo Weaving who plays Elrond. There's no dirt on any of the minifigure's clothing, but I think that probably would have made it to busy. Other than that, it looks like a great recreation of him. Lastly, a quick comparison of the three elf minifigures available. They all have drawn faces and serious expressions. Nothing funny about these three. Conclusion I'm very happy with this figure. LEGO did an excellent job adapting him into LEGO form, and I can't complain about the color scheme. That sword still has me drooling, so many opportunities to use it. If you're on the fence about Elrond, go get yourself one, he's worth it! Ratings: Playability: 9/10 He's as playable as any minifigure, I don't do much playing myself, and less so with this guy as I paid a nice sum for him. Design: 10/10 The design is perfect, then again, there wasn't much LEGO had to do to this guy. But they adapted him nicely. Price: 8/10 Like I said, I dished out $25 for this guy, which I think is pretty fair for how limited his release was. Minifigure: 10/10 If LEGO, keeps making figures like this I think it's time I get a job. Parts: 10/10 I just love that new sword mold. It looks like a perfect representation of the movie prop. Total: 47/50 Not a perfect score, but I don't think minifigures really work on a scale like this. Like this review? Want to learn how to make good reviews? Then join the Reviewers Academy!

    Damaged Armor?

Recently I order about 16 extra Uruk-hai off of BrickLink. After receiving my order I noticed all the armored chest plates all had a funky mark in them. I am not entirely sure what it is.. a defect in the mold, a stress mark, or something else? At first I was a little concerned I might of gotten a bad lot off BrickLink so I decided to turn to Lego's store and order replacement chest pieces. Well, after getting my order from them today I noticed they have the SAME mark on every one of the "replacement" chest pieces! I would think this is how they are meant to be made if not for the fact NONE of my older Uruk-hai chest pieces (around ~80) don't have the marking at all. I s this a newer mold making this mark? Is it because it's being shipped in the cold? Does anyone have any idea what's causing it? I find it odd it's only in the one spot on every chest piece and literally every one has the mark where as none of my older Uruk-hai did. Below are two pictures for comparison (sorry for the poor quality, was taken with my phone), the first are the good chest plates with no mark, the second chest is one of the werid distress mark ones.
