    Jet Turbine Dragster

Possibly the fastest machine to have come flying out of the doors of Llwyngwril Systems' infamous Vehicle Design Department. Turbine Dragster by David Roberts, on Flickr Turbine Dragster by David Roberts, on Flickr Playing around with "brick bending" techniques seems to have become my theme for this summer.

    Creator Aircraft Fleet

Creator is among my favourite themes, with its no-nonsense, anonymised, 3-in-1, 'pure LEGO' approach, and in this theme, the aircraft are always my first purchases. I recently bodged together a nice light-up display area for models and the first theme to go in was a selection of Creator's aircraft: CIMG0062b by bananaworld, on Flickr The Dilemma: They've been on display for a while now and I'm itching to build up another theme from the stash, BUT I don't want to take them apart! Which ones should I save to display elsewhere? Just the stunning larger ones, or are any of the smaller sets just too brilliant to part-out?
  3. REVIEW - 42044 - DISPLAY TEAM JET INTRODUCTION The smallest of the 2016 sets, is the Display Team Jet. It doesn't seem to have lots of functionality, but maybe the landing gear is retractable. This set kind of reminds me to the 9394 - Jet Plane, although it's obviously a lot smaller. As you can read in my review of the 42052 - Heavy Lift Helicopter basically anything flying is +1 for me, so let's find out if this set also fits the bill. Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42044 Title: Display Team Jet Theme: Technic Released: 2016 Part Count: 113 Box Weight: 193 gr Box Dimensions: 15,4 cm x 13,8 cm x 5,9 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 9,99 Price per Part: € 0,088 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX Being a small set, it obviously comes in a small box. The Display Team Jet is an Aerobatics Jet, used in air shows. On the box it's flying rather high, but at least it's at a safe distance from the crowd. Front side shows the main model, together with a small section indicating you can use Digital Building instructions to build this model. BACK SIDE The back side shows the B-model, a Stunt Plane. And again a reference to the apps for Digital Building instructions. More on the Stunt Plane later. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 2 Instructions Booklets (A- and B-model) 1 Sticker Sheet 3 Technic Liftarms 2 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLETS Both the instructions for the A- and B-model are included in the box. STICKER SHEET A lot of stickers for such a small set. Apparently no panel is left untouched. LIFTARMS Three liftarms unsealed, nothing out of the ordinary for a small set. BAGS Two bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or otherwise interesting parts. YELLOW 5L AXLES The 5L Axle in Yellow has never been released before, so it's one of the new parts for this year. BLACK 7L FLEX AXLES For the layman this seems a common part, but the 7L Soft Axle actually has never been released in black before. Combined with the re-release of the 19L Soft Axle in black, this will open up lots of possibilities. For those of you thinking you've read this text before; you are right, the new Drag Racer contains these new 7L Flex Axles too. WHITE PANELS This small set comes with a whopping 10 panels. Great for the ones who like panels. Not so great if you think TLG is using too much panels lately. RUDDER This part, the Small Bionicle Wing, is the same as the one used in last year's 42033 - Record Breaker. PART LIST This set contains 113 parts, all listed below. THE BUILD This is the collection of parts, used to build the Jet. It sure looks like we are getting a landing gear. The build is fun, but pretty straightforward. There aren't any special or cool techniques used in this set. It almost took me more time to apply all the stickers than to build the actual model. FINISHED MODEL The finished Jet does look cool though. The white and yellow color scheme, combined with the stickers, work really well. I have seen people refer to the plane as being orange, but it's definitely yellow. Technic (or LEGO in general) tends to have some color variation when it comes to yellow. I do concur this is the warmer variant of yellow, but it's not orange. The back of the plane looks nice too, although I am not a big fan of the rudder part. It looks too detailed, compared to the other panels. It's not a big deal though, and maybe it's just me. PARTS LEFT Only three common parts left. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS This set has a single feature and that is a retractable landing gear. It's operated by the black 12T Double Bevel Gear near the cockpit. In the following picture you can see the landing gear retracted. This image shows the landing gear when the plane is ready for landing. Hopefully the pilot will roll the plane before landing, but you probably know what I mean VIDEO Here's s short video demonstrating the Display Team Jet. B-MODEL This set also includes the building instructions for the B-model, a Stunt Plane. The building experience for the Stunt Plane is more or less the same as for the Jet. Well, what do you expect when both models are planes with a limited number of parts. For an alternative model the Stunt Plane looks fine. There's not a lot of functionality in this plane, but it's worth mentioning that the tail wheel allows the plane to roll on a flat surface. The plane also has working propellors. Both functions are demonstrated in the video. Unfortunately, the landing gear of the Stunt Plane is not retractable. PARTS LEFT A couple of extra leftover parts, but it's nice to see that most of the parts have been used in the B-model as well. Actually, there's probably an extra yellow Technic Smooth 1/2 Bush left. I just found it on my desk, but it could belong to one of the other sets. VIDEO Here's a video demonstrating the Stunt Plane. SUMMARY Two nice planes for 13 bucks, that's basically what you get. Both models look good and the set has some interesting new parts. Especially the 7L Flex Axle will be very popular. It comes with a decent collection of white panel, although they are very common nowadays. Both models have limited functionality, but each of them has at least one function to give the model some playability for kids, other than the swooshability that is. Okay, it might lack some proper functions, but I still think kids will love this set. I can see kids running around with one of the planes in their hands. All in all I think this set delivers what you'd expect. SCORE Let's see how this set flies! Remember that the grades are based on it being a small set. Obviously a set like this, cannot be compared with a Mercedes flagship. 8 DESIGN For a small set, the model looks very authentic. 7 BUILDING EXPERIENCE No surprises. 7 FEATURES Just the retractable landing gear. 8 PLAYABILITY It has swooshability, so I see kids running around with this model. 7 PARTS Lots of panels, if you are into that. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY Can't go wrong with these small sets. 7,5 FUN FOR KIDS More image can be found on my Flickr page. Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.
  4. Airbus A380 Micro Model The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner manufactured by European aircraft company Airbus. It is the world's largest passenger airliner, and the airports at which it operates have upgraded facilities to accommodate it. It was initially named Airbus A3XX and designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market. The A380 made its first flight on 27 April 2005 and entered commercial service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines. -Wikipedia Now I present to you the biggest passenger plane out of Lego! I tried to include as much details as possible at this small scale and I must say I'm quite pleased with the result. The project features: Detailed plane Decals Removable landing gear Display stand in various colors It's built out of 365 bricks which seems quite reasonable for a Lego Ideas set. Here're some more pics: Thanks a lot to Anduin1710 who made the beautiful renders. Make sure to check out his projects. Especially if you're a LotR or Hobbit fan! Do you like my MOC? Please consider supporting over at Lego Ideas to make it become a real set! Your help is greatly appreciated!
  5. As a kid who grew up in the 80's with all of the coolest toys including the awesome M.A.S.K. line, I had always wanted to do a legit M.A.S.K. style vehicle in Technic.. I did a car back in 2009, but it wasn't very good as I was still learning how to build... When Jim announced this new contest, I decided to try my hand at a similar sized scale car(I guess around 1:18 scale) to the original vintage M.A.S.K. vehicles.. I already had the style of car in my head to go along with the name.. This model is not for the contest, but instead to test myself with something new and possibly to inspire everyone still competing during this final week... I have been sitting on a dozen of these Technic parts for about 4 years trying to figure out what to do with them And I finally got the chance to use 4 of them in an interesting way.. I may use these as some type of air intakes in a future super car... Since the model was an Enforcer and would be primarily black, I knew that it would be tough to make a really interesting looking vehicle being limited with only a black and white color palette, luckily I got to absolutely abuse this part which worked out quite nicely.. The vehicle's 4 wheels fold down by turning a small knob in the rear and both of the doors also go up at the same time to act as wings while revealing 4 small Flick Fire missiles ready to blow up the nearest bad guy... The rear spoiler pulls outwards and upwards while dropping the rear valance at the same time to expose defensive dual smoke screen blasters to blind any pursuers... The front machine guns pop out by sliding a lever forward between the seats and retracts by sliding it back.. I made use of this part to lock the guns into and out of place... The car doesn't have any steering, suspension, gearbox, or fake engine(well it does have a fake engine style cover). The wheels roll, but that is about it as I wanted to actually build something just like what I used to play wiht back in the 80's.. Anyways, here it is, The Shuriken Brickshelf Link

    GR9 Harrier ii

Just finished this so thought I'd share here: Features working "just about everything", it has a micro motor to power the intake fan rotor, delayed flashing engine lights and constant lit fuselage and wing tips lights. Power is supplied via a 9v battery box housed inside the ground support vehicle. This has 2 switches on it, one to power up the lights, the second to power up the intake fan along with a red led on the support vehicle. Full details / explanations can be seen in my Flickr album, along with some videos and many more pics:
  7. Infernus' jet mode resembled one character from Transformers universe (guess who?). He is named so because of his fiery red color scheme and with spikes and horns all over. He was known to rise from the depths of Cybertron hell, a culmination of millions of sparks who died horribly in the smelting pool. The jet transforms into robot without taking off parts. And the transformation sequence is incredibly simple indeed! Even though set 31032 offered tons of balljoints... I've used them all up leaving only one orphaned socket part (there's no balljoint to complement it). If only they offer this one part in this set and I will be able to make an articulated head. Presently Infernus only can look forward and unable to rotate his head. :P One of the major highlights in my project is how to make the nosecone halves (forming robot legs) aligned with each other . One of the way is to implement a peg on one half and a peghole on the opposing half. The 1-stud long peg looks ugly but I always favor structural integrity over aesthetics. ^ the aforementioned orphaned balljoint socket ended up at the back of his pelvis. You will notice he don't have eyes (read: there's no suitable transparent parts from set 31032 to be used for eyes.). I don't think he need proper eyes (or face even!) since he's literally one hell of a character, like grim reaper. :) ^ Strolling casually to Hell's Kitchen to get energon cubes. For more photos and building instruction, do visit my blog entry below. Thanks for your support guys. Alanyuppie's LEGO Transformers: LEGO 31032 Alternate Mode: Infernus with instructions !

    Fighter Jet

Hey, everyone! I have been meaning to getting around to build a fighter jet, but just never seemed to have the patience / know-how to do so. Well, I finally buckled down and built one. It has been a while since I last built an airplane, but I soon regained my familiarity with aircraft building. The scale I built this in is not a typical scale of craft that I usually build in. However, once I obtained the pilot LEGO figure, I knew I had to build some sort of plane for him . Perhaps the most challenging part of the model to build was the back wheel supports and the air intake assembly (or attaching the front nose cone without having the whole front fall apart) on the cockpit. More photos and higher resolution pics can be found here: https://www.flickr.c.../127983423@N07/ (P.S. Being my only second MOC post here, still not totally sure if this is the best spot to post this, but since I saw that it included military MOCs, I decided to give it a go; if it should be moved somewhere else, do feel free to tell me. Thanks. )
  9. MOC. Built October the 12th, 2014. Improved and partially rebuilt January the 18th-19th, 2015. THE CHALLENGE WAS TO CREATE A TRANSFORMING ROBOT USING ONLY & EXCLUSIVELY PIECES INCLUDED IN THE 31008 SET and my options were limited. The vehicle mode is a slightly futuristic military jet. The robot mode is quite similar to Generation 1 Transformers Seekers (e.g. Starscream) and to Macross Valkyrie. Legs are well poseable (thanks to the ball joints introduced few years ago) and shoulders can rotate 360 degrees (connected with wings) and tilt (left/right). The hands look like pliers, but in the set only 4 fingers (another cool piece very useful for robot models) were available. The robot mode is headless because this robot is intended as a mecha with an human pilot sitting in the cabin (like Valkyries from Macross/Robotech)... so I decided to keep this way.But with some of the small pieces I didn't use everyone could easily create an head. The orange sloped pieces were used to build a weapon... a sort of battle axe. More pics here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/398312
  10. A great deal of experimental aircraft were developed by the ƧCǣ airfactors in attempts to break Trans-Atlantic and time airborn records. The Lightning Volt was on such jet. While it got to a certain point in deveolpment a more promising design prototype shelved the L-V project. Mothballed for a long time it was built to flight standard by an eccentric pilot. Sooo... I was building Adventurer planes but these sky-fi ones keep escaping instead. It is technically created for Adventurer's to use but it of course fits here better than Action and Adventure. I was trying for some bare-bones look in areas as if the jet is experimental and I love using the spinner crowns in planes and the cable/wires at the front are actually reigns from Friends and the Star Wars Bantha.

Searing red As always, no real back story to this guy, I just wanted to build something dynamic with loads of red. The Carapace opens up in the back to reveal a jet thruster as you can see on the pictures. The finished product kind of reminded me of something you'd get as an enemy in some Japanese shmup or something so I looked up a cool sounding phrase and the name stuck. I really like the contrast of the tiny skinny frame and limbs against the big hollow shell. So yeah, your comments and criticism is welcome, as always.

    MOC: Lockheed A-12 "Oxcart"

Lockheed A-12 "Oxcart" CIA high speed high altitude reconnaissance aircraft, precursor to the US Air Force SR-71 Blackbird. Model features opening cockpit, detailed Q-bay with camera rig, fully functional landing gear, opening inflight refueling recepticle, and positionable flight control surfaces including flaps, ailerons, and ruddervators. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/385856

    Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR.3

This model is a heavily modified version of my McDonnell Douglas AV-8B MOC. I have shortened the fuselage, lengthened the nose, lowered the canopy, redesigned the wing and "pogo" wingtip gears, replaced the 25mm rotary cannon pod system with the GR.3's double ADEN cannon pods, armed it with 2 MATRA rocket pods and 2 AIM-9 Sidewinder air to air missiles, and replaced the forward swiveling exhaust nozzles. The aircraft represents a Harrier GR.3 deployed during the Falklands War with the British Royal Air Force, and has the RAF two tone dark green and grey paint scheme from that period. Feedback is much appreciated! http://mocpages.com/moc.php/384773

    Digital Aircraft Renders

These are some digital renders I have created of my LDD aircraft MOCs using LDD to POV-Ray, POV-Ray, and Gimp 2.8. All the aircraftmarkings have been created digitally and applied using the Gimp photo editing software by me. I'm still re-learning to use Gimp, so please excuse the somewhat crude nature of the markings as I'm still a beginner with the software. The backgrounds are all non-commercial use images allowed with modification, so no copyright worries. I'm limited by computing power for now, so there is no anti-aliasing on the renders currently, but this will be changed as my equipment allows. Also included in the gallery is a modern US Navy flight deck tractor. Vought F-8 Crusader

This was developed from my A-7 Corsair II MOC, but with a redesigned and lengthened forward fuselage, new vertical stabilizer, longer tailpipe, and new cockpit canopy and control panel. I have created two variants thus far, the upgraded F-8E fleet air superiority fighter and the upgraded RF-8G photo reconnaissance aircraft. Features include a detailed cockpit with room for one minifigure and an opening canopy, opeing radome with radar antenna, fully functional landing gear, opening and positionable inflight refueling probe, positionable variable incidence wing, positionable airbrakes, positionable tail hook, folding wings, and fully poseable flight control surfaces including flaps, ailerons, spoilers, and all moving horizontal stabilators. Vought A-7 Corsair II

These are some of my newer MOCs, starting with the A-7A Corsair II. I've created both the single and dual seat versions, and both the US Navy and US Air Force/Air National Guard variants. This also was the basis for my F-8 Crusader MOC, ironic as the A-7 attack aircraft was derived from the F-8 fleet air superiority fighter in development reality. As usual, they are loaded with working features and as much detail as I could pack in. Grumman EA-6B Prowler

This is a major rework of my A-6 MOC, with a newly designed radome and forward fuselage with a new double tandem cockpit with separately opening canopies. Even though I started with an existing MOC, it still took several days to engineer the new forward section and get the look right. Features include dual tandem seat cockpits with room for 4 minifigures, opening dual canopies, opening radome with radar antenna, fully functioning landing gear, folding wings, positionable emergency ram air turbine generator, positionable crew boarding ladder, positionable tail hook, and fully poseable flight control surfraces including flaperons, spoilerons, wingtip airbrakes, and all moving horizontal stabilators. Grumman A-6 Intruder

<p>This was my second large scale LEGO aircraft MOC project, starting with the A-6E FLIR model. I have so far made 4 variants of this aircraft, including the original A-6A, the electronic warfare EA-6A, the airborne tanker KA-6D, and the aforementioned A-6E. They are a slightly larger scale than the F-4 MOCs, around 1:18th, and every bit as detailed with numerous functioning parts and details. Features include a dual seat cockpit with room for 2 minifigures, opening sliding canopy, opening radome with radar antenna, fully functioning landing gear, folding wings, positionable emergency ram air turbine generator, positionable crew boarding ladder, positionable tail hook, and fully poseable flight control surfraces including flaperons, spoilerons, wingtip airbrakes (A-6A, A-6E) or fuselage mounted airbrakes (EA-6A, KA-6D), and all moving horizontal stabilators. 21. Enter the Eagle at Singapore Airshow 2014! This brick F-15SG comprises more than 150 parts and took more than half a year to design. It was quite a challenge to get it true to scale at this size. I’ve added in details like the airbrake and missiles, and built the wings sideways to make them as smooth as possible. The new 1x2 slope (part 11477) worked really well here. Hope you like it. Cheers! http://www.facebook....cksbencreations http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricksben http://www.bricksben.com
