^Many people don't like the official rendition and prefer Christo's. I think it is the helmet and the boot printing. They do make a difference, but overall I am quite happy with the official version. This is a neat build. I like the effect of newspapers flying and whatnot. I always wondered why they would even bother racing. What's the point of Kal being able to run fast since he can fly. Just like why leap tall buildings in a single bound...you can fly!!! Use it. Either way, fun build.

Review: 70146 Flying Phoenix Fire Temple
TheLegoDr replied to TheOneVeyronian's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the review. It seems to be an interesting set for sure. I don't know about that price though. The figures look pretty neat. I'd like them more if they didn't have the Chi on their chest. But I understand why it is there since it is the point of the theme. I like the new Phoenixes. I may have to pick them up. That tiger is amazing looking, again outside of the Chi.- 18 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's an odd configuration of colors since it doesn't line up with any royal family to date. You'd think the jester would have House colors of the noble family he is entertaining? I don't know much about true medieval history, but that'd be my assumption. The figure looks cool enough, just an odd color choice.- 1,109 replies

I think it is safe to assume it wouldn't have another production run. It came out in mid 2012 (almost 2 years ago). That is pretty standard for the larger D2C sets. I would think it is just selling until they are out in their warehouses. I haven't seen any in multiple LEGO stores I've been to recently.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That top figure looks like the old Islanders mask. I believe they gave us the newer Islander in one of the more recent series to update that figure. I could see that second one becoming a figure. When I first saw that picture of those horned orc like creatures months ago, I was determined to buy up every last one of them in the stores. But looking at the list, I don't think they fit into any of them, unfortunately.- 1,109 replies

Nicely done. I like the roofs the most. But the buildings add a lot of character to the scene. The bridge is very well done. I may have to copy that design in the future. The barricade is interesting. Seems effective. Keep up the great work!

[MOC] SPACEBALLS! The Playset! (miniland scale)
TheLegoDr replied to Modulex Guy's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Brilliant! Very well done. I love it. I'd recommend going a few steps further and making more characters. But what we have here is great. I just got back from Schaumburg/Chicago area last Wednesday. If only my job travel could work around LEGO events... -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I would almost venture to say the Spaceship might be the best selling set of the year, similar to how they rated Olivia's House and Unexpected Gathering when they came out. I may get it for Christmas. It does look neat, but there are too many other big sets I have been wanting for longer..- 2,626 replies

This is a fun topic. I may have seen something like this before, but I'll comment again! Series 1: Super Wrestler. Nacho Libre all the way. Series 2: Disco Dude or Spartan. Ooh, maybe I should customize and add them together. Disco Spartan... Series 3: Space Villain. I'm still looking for him. I want multiples for my Blacktron II clan. Next is Samurai Series 4: Kimono Girl or Werewolf. Series 5: Boxer. Nice new pieces. Series 6: Butcher or Leprechaun. Both interesting characters. Series 7: Bagpiper. Very cool idea. Series 8: Actor or Lederhosen Guy. Actor and Shakespeare are very similar and I love them both. Series 9: Mr. Good and Evil or Chicken Suit Guy. This was a great series. I loved the Forest Maiden's shield too. Series 10: Revolutionary Soldier or Medusa. I'll go with the Soldier because that was a long time coming update. I love that time period. But mythology interests me too. Series 11: Pretzel Girl. This wasn't the best series. I loved the Blacktron nod with the Mech, but I hated that they mixed I and II. Stick with one and I'd be happier. LEGO movie: Shakespeare. I didn't love that set. Mostly bought it for completion sake. But the torso/legs on ole Bill there will do good in historical MOCs. Simpsons: Homer. He's the funniest! Although I like his accessories here. I still don't love the molded heads, but they look better than the cartoon episode heads.

Very well done. I, too, would like to see it in real bricks. I have the official set, but haven't opened it yet to build it. I don't mind how it turned out, but there is always room for improvement. I may have to try my hand at this in the future. Although, most of my tan pieces are going to my mini Hogwarts castle project.

I hate to say hassle them to give you feedback, but that early feedback is crucial. If everything is done correctly, I'm not sure why they wouldn't post feedback. From what I've seen, some places post all feedback at a certain time, so for some people there is a longer gap between order-feedback whereas some more recent sales may have feedback that same day (if it was that day they were posting their lot). Other times I've seen people just get too busy and "forget." Often times, if they don't post feedback relatively quick, I send them a quick message saying I have left them positive feedback and I would appreciate positive feedback in return. I mentioned it was a pleasure doing business with them and hope to again in the future. Surprisingly, the feedback happens really quickly. I'm sure they just get caught up in other stuff and then see a reminder regarding feedback, so they think to do it. Just a thought.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I assumed they would do another mini modular release. They had 5 for the first series. Since then they have released 4 more Iincluding PR). Meaning, I assumed they would release one in a few years. I've seen some nice mini versions on here, but I was hoping to see official versions. I didn't realize it was a poor seller. It was a day one purchase for me. -
^I like it. It is really subdued compared to the original. I like the dark red awning. The yellow stands out on the original, but this works really well here too. I almost wonder if maybe adding in another darker color would work with the dark tan, but not like the reddish brown. The dark tan works much better with the black I think. I have built and rebuilt multiple versions of CC, looking at different arrangements and styles. I may have to rework it again and see how it would look with a different color. I hadn't considered that before. I've tried building it as a straight build, but to get it to look similar to the original, you need a middle tower, which resembles Town Hall and Fire Brigade too much. So I have them separated to allow the original entrance and the side entrance to the hotel, but something just seems off about it. Thanks for sharing!

I don't understand the Coulson one. Is it in reference to the tv show I haven't watched?

This is a great MOC. The shaping works really well. The color scheme works well. The figures are a nice touch. With that said, it does seem everyone and their dog has a tumbler designed. That's not to say any one is better or worse than another. That's the problem. Too many great designs out there of the same thing. I think fans only want so many of them. I highly doubt TLG would produce a copy, even if it made it to 10k. It shouldn't fall under the inevitable discovery considering it is improving a previous set basically, but that lends more credence to the idea of why they wouldn't do it. They created an Arctic Batman set already. Best of luck though. I really like it.
-
Assume it is a new tumbler set. Obviously LEGO will do a great job with how it looks. That doesn't mean people will have to buy it. I would assume, if it has poor sales, then LEGO will take the hint and give us DC fans another option. Although I do love Batman related sets and would gladly welcome more (I know most aren't in that same boat). Although, I do want some variety with other heroes too! I think a Batmobile looks better as a display piece than a tumbler. I loved it in the movie, but I can't picture it on my shelf. I could picture the UCS batmobile (with some mods, since I didn't love how it turned out either). I guess we will see the final product.

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

I didn't even realize the octan robot was over a suit. It would work for Agents, but I was hoping for a full robot style torso. It has less appeal to me now. Hmm...- 228 replies

Very well done. I can see a strong resemblance here. I've never heard of this building, but it looks really neat. I like how you did the dome with the trans pieces. Very clever.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'd think with pictures surfacing from a catalogue, that these are the final figures. Not sure why people would think they would be changed again... With that said, I love Merlin and Katniss. I only picked up one Dino set and that was used for about half off. I couldn't justify those regular prices. This figure looks neat, although the hair is the best part. The wizard reminds me of Merlin, which I'm okay with. I love the patterned robe and cape. The headgear will definitely be re-used somewhere else (maybe the princess). The Goddess is brilliant. So far, she is the only one I'd consider getting multiples of, if only for the shield. She'll be limited to 2 per 60 pack, most likely. I'll have to get one for me, one for my daughter. And any others I can find. The swashbuckler looks decent. A fine addition to a pirate-esque theme. I like the new colors. The space driller is weird. I don't like the color scheme, but I will get him for the collection anyway. The gamer is interesting. The controller is exactly what I pictured. Very reminiscent of the original NES. That is if the joysticks were the middle buttons. I can't wait to see the rest. This shows some promise. Edit: And did anyone notice the side leg printing on the Dino hunter. Nice touch LEGO.- 1,109 replies

Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List
TheLegoDr replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
+2 for fred67. One fantastic trade and then after realizing a mistake, sent another figure later. So technically two separate "transactions" Hope to deal with again! -
I can understand the logic that you buy what you are comfortable with. If the prices seem high, but someone is willing to pay it, then the sets will sell at those prices. You do have to consider, this is a child's toy, yet the adults are the people most often buying them (parents, grandparents, AFOLs, etc). Yes, kids buy their own toys after they have saved up, but most of the time they drool over the large sets they can't afford and the parents either buy them or don't buy them. I've read on this forum many times about how as kids we wanted certain sets and never got them and then as adults we found them in the aftermarket or bricklinked them. Without resellers we wouldn't be able to do that. I'm not condoning anyone's business practice, but that is a fact. It is the same way now. If a kid wants this large exclusive set, chances are they won't be able to afford it anyway. If you are going to blame anyone, blame TLG for releasing the interesting large scale (read: expensive) sets that kids likely can't have and only adults can afford. I buy what I want, when I am able to. Just make sure you have all other financial obligations in order and buy what you can. I know lots of people who "over-pay" because their financial situation allows them to and they still feel like they got a good deal. It's all about perspective. If I am only willing to spend $100 on a $150 set, chances are I will be disappointed because sales don't happen like that too often. If I'm able to sit around and wait for a good sale that I feel is acceptable, then I still get the set at a price I find reasonable and it's considered a win. Edit: To follow up, if I wait for that good sale, but it never comes and I miss out on the set altogether, then it must not have meant as much to me as I originally thought. If I truly wanted the set, I probably would have paid full price for it. But since I buy mostly just exclusives, I know they tend to stick around a bit longer. The main problem are the sets that have a short production run (the Monster Fighter Zombies set). I think it was available for 2 months and then disappeared. Luckily I bought one right away and didn't miss out, but there are those situations where it isn't "scalpers" from what I can tell. Just a hot seller with a short production run and they weren't able to justify a second production run, I assume because of the time of year it came out.

Very well done. I like the hinged bedrooms on the interior. Great use of space while limited the visual space to make it look more like an actual building. I'm always impressed by your builds and this doesn't change that fact. The grays work really well here. And it definitely looks more realistic than the bright modulars. Although I do love the modulars for those colors.

I'd love to be able to make a quick buck selling LEGO, but I do think it would take all of the fun out of it. I considered opening a bricklink store to sell some unused pieces to help supplement the rest of my hobby, but then at times I wonder if I'll ever find a use for some pieces. I'd hate to sell something and then need it later for a MOC. Either way, it would suck the fun out of it for me. I want to be able to build and collect certain figures. Now with all of that said, I will not pay some of those crazy prices for things. With my collection and a very little purchase from LEGO I was able to build my own version of Green Grocer (the only subsitution really was sand blue for sand green) and most of Cafe Corner, outside of a lot of the dark blue (although I do have the arch). And I bet I spent less than $75 total thanks to my collection from sets. I'd never pay the actual retail market value of them. Certain figures I'd like to have, but I don't want to spend over a certain amount. The most I've spent on a figure was a SDCC Phoenix, and only because I saw it for a really great price. Otherwise, I shoot for about 10-15$ per figure and it is rare I'd ever spend that much. I look at it, I can either buy this entire set and get the pieces and figures for $x, or I can buy just the one figure I want for $lower x. I started being smarter with what figures I actually want a collection of. Before I did just buy all the sets to have everything (which did give me lots of pieces to build the aforementioned sets). But reselling isn't something that interests me. It is great they are out there since LEGO won't/can't sell their licensed figures directly (and those are the only sets I buy), but I don't love some of the prices. That's the only reason I buy on eBay for figures is in the off-chance I get a really good deal. But I always check bricklink first for values since those seem to be pretty steady. Plus, I don't know how some people can have so much money to buy so many sets at first just to resell. My LEGO money is limited as it is. I'd hate to waste it on multiples, just to sell them and then buy more multiples again later. I'd never be able to supplement my hobby. As for the Ecto-1, I can imagine it selling out quickly just like BTTF, but like BTTF it will come back in stock. I can easily see them doing another production run of that set. The Mars Rover didn't have multiple production runs I don't believe. They may have went out of stock online, but that doesn't mean it was out of stock and they did another production run and it sold out. The BTTF sold out and came back in stock and it is still in stock from that presumed second production run. Either way, Ecto-1 will follow suit due to popularity. So if I miss out, I'm sure it will come back around. But I'm going to try my hardest to not miss out.

The problem with builds like this can be associated with the grand scale that in itself is impressive, but then you see all of the little details that blow the mind (literally...yes it is now goo). I'm always impressed by these builds anyway, but the color scheme here works really well. The landscaping is neat and fitting for the region. It's a nice change from the lush greens and clear blue waters. If I had more time I would have pursued this GoH more because I can see a lot of quality coming out of it. Now, I need to get back to work on my gatehouse I was working on for Albion so long ago...

In regards to Coke/Pepsi, if I remember correctly, in the movie Wayne's World which was from the early 90s, Rob Lowe's character asks for Pepsi Cola while ordering Chinese food on the phone...interesting. I wonder when they officially stopped using cola in their name. In regards to LEGO, I see clone brands in the same aisle at all of the stores near me (Target/Wal-Mart, I don't go to TRU so I don't know about there). You'd think it'd be easy to just look at the tag on the box. LEGO's logo isn't exactly easy to miss. Bright colors, large letters... I think I may be one of the few that prefers to say the actual term in regards to the non-brand name nouns. We do buy kleenex, but I like saying facial tissue. Or Adhesive bandage instead of band-aid (which we commonly buy band-aid brand, even though they don't stick too well). So maybe I should start calling LEGO interlocking building bricks, just for the fun of it.
