That does show how awesome some of these figures are. I really think Rocket should have a smaller torso piece, which of course doesn't exist. He just looks too big comparitively. It looks as if he is using the CMF Simpsons's tail piece, as expected. You can see the thin gray line above his legs. I understand Groot being able to change size, but I almost think I'd prefer a Hagrid sized Groot (or Hulk at the most) to line up better with the rest of them like in their line-up shot. He is taller, but not that much taller. I'm sure later in the movie he'll be larger, so this makes sense. But I know what I'd want.

The funny thing is the original still looked really good. Better than any vehicle I could build. But the revisions have made it that much better! I could easily see this being an official set. And if it is/isn't, I'd still buy one for my city. I'll have to somehow get creative and study your pictures to build my own...it won't come out as awesome as yours though. And good job getting frontpaged. That is a dream of mine. I just need to build more and post more pictures.

Black Swan Tavern on Market Day
TheLegoDr replied to Gary The Procrastinator's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I love how clean and tight this build is. The chimney stonework is especially interesting to me. I may have to take a closer look at that to work on my own stone settings. The market scene works quite well. This whole build comes together nicely. Hopefully one day I can put together something like this.- 17 replies

Another great build to be seen here! The angles are crazy. I know I'm not a capable builder (I also haven't practiced), but these types of angles you and Legonardo do are incredible. I am not entirely sure how to even begin to build like that. I really like the black trees on the ground. They do look like hands reaching out of the ground to grab someone (similar to the Whomping Willow)...very neat. I think I will save this to look back at for inspiration of other builds. Good to have you back. I enjoy looking at your builds.

This is actually a really neat idea. I hadn't thought of confining part of a castle wall to a build to create a scene around. I typically aim for a full castle, then get ovewhelmed with the size and pieces needed and abandon the project. But building just a facade wall and having a battle or something going on in front of it, may be a good way to go.

I thought the press release (or an interview) said they planned on this CMF and House set first and possibly more in the future. Now, the possibly more can always change. There might have been a threshold they were planning on hitting for profitibility and that could trigger a future release, but I agree they would already need some plans in the works and there isn't much reason to have prototypes of figures/designs if you end up not releasing the product. Just seems like wasted time/money. I'd think TLG wants ALL of their themes to be runaway hits, as any business would. But I don't know if they particularly expected Simpsons to be as popular as it has been. And their numbers may be very different than what we are seeing in stores.

In that Flickr page, it shows the video game versions of the GOTG and Drax looks eerily like the Martian Manhunter that came out. No wonder they didn't want to go with another green figure and opted for gray instead. Yes, he does have a sand green/light bley color in the movie it appears, but the video game version made him regular green. He looks good, but a lot like MM.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
So maybe US is evening out to how the rest of the world was? Since our price has increased. I agree, with the price change it is tough to swallow a complete set, let alone extras. This series may have some good extras too, but I'll probably still want a complete set. It just cuts into buying other LEGO sets, so I guess TLG still gets my money, just from a different theme. But I also began just buying minifigures from the Licensed sets by themselves and skipping the set all together, which I used to buy the set just for the figures. So TLG is losing my business to an extent.- 1,109 replies

Very interesting. Our LUG just got into Micropolis building, so we each are doing a module. This seems like a fine addition to a city. The round shape is unique and adds a lot of character to a city layout.

I think mine was around 5,326 the last time I checked. I only have a small amount to use currently. I like collecting the points when I order from S@H. "Free LEGO" is fun. I can't remember what the expiration is, 1 or 2 years. So keep that in mind everyone!

Serious question about Lego flowers
TheLegoDr replied to BirdOPrey5's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've always done studs up. I had no idea other people put them on backwards... It is nice that with LEGO you can go either way and it works. -
^That'd make sense. Enough for two seasons should work out in most instances. I think the problem is, the Cottage sold better than expected and the Market sold worse. I have no numbers to justify this, but from all of the hate for the Market probably didn't help sales. The set itself was fun, but since it was a group of a lot of smaller things with one central larger thing, made it seem like less for your money. That new price tag hurts, especially when everyone really liked the smaller/cheaper options.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
^Interesting considering our mailman always is in uniform. USPS issued attire ftw... Either way, if this list is legit, it could be very promising. The downside is the price of course. It will make it hard to justify multiples, and some of these figures sound like multiples would be fun to get. I always try to get one set for me and then a few fun figures that my daughter wants. Those typically are all of the female figures, so at the ratio of 5 that will be an extra $20 minimum just for her. Yikes! And my guess would be a video game controller would be printed on a 1x2 tile. It would look almost exactly like the original NES controller from the 80s and they wouldn't create a new mold. They've already done that with a lot of other things that have a different shape, so why not print this too?- 1,109 replies

^Someone said in the movie his character can change size based on wood he touches or intakes?? I don't know much about it, but I guess his size changes.

Thanks for the review. This is now the third review I've seen of this set and so far everyone has had issues with the instructions falling apart. Hopefully they get that fixed! The set is a must buy. I'd like to get it for Father's Day and I'll actually be near a LEGO store when this is released. But someone was saying it isn't released in shops until later this year, so I may be at a loss.

Well done. The chopper looks solid. I like the flaming wheels and the bits of fire thrown off. I like the chain more than the flail personally. I think the tube looks about as spot on as you could get outside of having another new mold that they put on the neck under the head that has flames encircling the head, but then it wouldn't look entirely engulfed like it does with the tube. So I'm down with the tube.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

The mech looks decent, but I mostly just want Angry Kitty for my daughter. I'm sure she'll go for a pretty penny in the aftermarket.- 2,626 replies

Actually that wasn't my Sand Blue Grocer that someone posted. That inspired me to create my own. My version definitely looks different than theirs though. I need to take pictures of mine, but I will post it here so you (everyone) can see how it looks in an alternate color. I'm sure they used Sand Green at that time because it was(is) a rarer color and sand blue was few and far between at that stage of modular building. And it's a good idea to keep sets together if that is what you are interested in. I have very few sets assembled, so it wasn't a big deal for me to take a lot of the spare parts i had in my stock already. It does save extra ordering in the long run. And in my case, I won't be putting those original sets back together anytime soon, with the possible exception of a few. I don't know where I took all of my pieces from, so there may be some sets I go to rebuild and have to re-order the few pieces for, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If legit, then I welcome this line-up. The names are generic enough, but from what I've seen of past releases, the figures speak for themselves in picture form, not word form. I'll buy one of each, but by the names, probably lots of extras too!- 1,109 replies

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
I guess I wasn't thinking of them being sold out before the release date again. My Father's Day present was going to be this and a few other small sets. I wanted to order it from LEGO to get the balloon cart also. I guess if this is sold out, then I won't be getting that balloon cart and LEGO loses my money (but gains so much more money from everyone else).... -
Thanks for the review. Much needed. I was a definite pass on the set and just wanted the minifigures. Now I think I want the set too! Granted I won't pay that price for it, so I'll wait for a sale. If a sale never comes, then I guess I'll pick up the figures in the aftermarket if I can get them for less than the price of the set. I love having Storm's normal sided face. Finally some more variety in skin color. Also, I love Logan's second face. Those goggles may work for SteamPunk MOCs I presume?? I almost think Magneto's hair should be the Count Dooku hairpiece from the new set. It matches that comic cover pretty well. Although, I'm thankful for having more variety in white/gray hair colors anyway.

Discourage somebody from taking up LEGO as a hobby?
TheLegoDr replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You were smart about your hobby and the separation from work/play. It seems not all people are capable of that. Granted, I am here at work on this forum inbetween my patients, but I don't bring things in to build. And I don't let the hobby consume my work time. It sounds like you don't either. So kudos. The main problem here will be if he does keep up with this hobby, he may want to continue to email you with questions. -
[CH2] The journey to Hembrygga - Category A, B & C
TheLegoDr replied to narbilu's topic in Guilds of Historica
I like how the story and builds are linked together. I could probably come up with some okay builds, but not a story to accompany it. You are doing both, so kudos! It will be interesting to see the next installment. -
REVIEW: 31021 Furry Creatures (Creator)
TheLegoDr replied to _Galadriel_'s topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the review. I planned on getting this and the other animal creator set this year. But as stated, there are too many other great sets out there that I will probably end up not getting these. This is really neat seeing it first hand though. I like the joint pieces. You can create a lot of movements with them.
