  1. ^I agree with everyone else in the idea that someone who accumulates as many figures as possible just to make a quick buck isn't in it for the right reasons. However, there are a great many LEGO fan that doesn't care for minifigures, so if/when they acquire one they may turn around and sell it and then put that money back into other LEGO sets they may have wanted (I'm looking at the larger exclusives that don't have a ton of figures). Yes, there are a lot of people out there that sell dozens of these figures and make a boatload. I agree they aren't helping the industry. But in reality, neither is LEGO by supplying these since most fans don't get them. You can never please everyone. I love the exclusive minifigures, but I won't be paying that amount of money on any of them. It isn't worth it to me. I do agree that preview figures are the best option.
  2. I'd love that Unikitty. Those head prints are awesome. Naturally it will go for a great deal of money. The set looks blah. But I'll pick it up for angry kitty. Granted, I do like the other one more.
  3. Good idea for a thread. I don't know if it would count, but basically I wasn't into LEGO trains really. I did purchase the Hogwarts Express from 2010 when it came out, but didn't think much of it. Well, the following Christmas I was starting to really like the idea of another train and Emerald Night was still available. But since I tried acquiring all of the other sets that I missed out on from the dark ages that Christmas, I didn't get it. By the time I thought maybe I should definitely get this train, it wasn't available anymore and the price skyrocketed. Ultimately I haven't really noticed that I don't own it. But I thought it was a neat looking train. But the more I look at it, the more I'd want more from it, so I might have been disappointed. (Keep in mind, I'm really good at talking myself (and my wife) out of things. Just ask her. She hates me for it ) ^The Zombies had a ridiculously short lifespan. I'm sure it just sold better than expected and they didn't/couldn't justify a second production run. But either way, I don't think I've ever seen a set sell out so fast. I think it existed for maybe 2 months. (Just checked Brickset, 3 months). Thankfully I did snag that one when it came out. I hate buying sets full price, but a few of those themes I bought everything when it first came out. I may have spent more, but I didn't miss anything. You never know. I bought a second Hulk's breakout for another Hulk for my daughter since clearance price wasn't much more than what just Hulk goes for. I haven't opened it yet.
  4. Not to come off as rude, but this does sound like a brag thread to me. The only reason I say that is because I thought LEGO said the quantities they produced the figures. At least the last few times they have said they only made x number of these figures. I'm sure not all of the owners are on EB and will comment on this. You could check out brickset also to see how many people say they own them there, but none of it is 100% accurate. With that said, I do own 1x Phoenix. I love her double sided head.
  5. I think, no matter what you choose, it will cost a fortune! Not to be a debbie downer, but that's what I am. Since Fantasy Era is discontinued, the sets themselves and a lot of the figures can be costly. LOTR is at least ongoing (for now), but a lot of those have been retired already too. Personally, I agree with everyone else here. Do a mix, but by your own rules. I don't like mixing themes either and I think FE orcs would look weird next to LOTR orcs because of the serious tone/color scheme. But adding in dragons is always fun. Dwarves can work either way. Skeleton armies could work either way. The next question becomes, do you prefer licensed or unlicensed skin tones for humans/elves. I personally love the licensed skin tone, but since I have a far greater number of unlicensed, that would edge out a victory in my collection.
  6. That seems like an interesting misprint, but I don't see any market value for it over what the normal head would go for. I know there are collectors out there that like to collect misprints/rare parts, but this isn't anything special.
  7. I am unable to watch the video here at work, so hopefully I'll take a look later at home. But I do know some people that tend to smash their sets after conventions/shows, just for fun. Their own personal MOCs, presumably without instructions and just drop them for the fun of it....
  8. I'm sure there might be long term effects associated with it. I didn't use retro bright or any other chemicals outside of peroxide. I did read it may go back to how it was over time, but then you can do the treatment again and change it back to white. Since I used it on early 90s figures, it wasn't a big loss had it not worked. But I don't know how long you are "supposed" to do anything. But I did mine for about 16 hours spread out over 2 days. Bright white, like new again. It was nice seeing the change.
  9. The interiors are nicely done. I don't love the exterior colors though. Something about black doesn't fit to me. But that's just me. The overall style of the building works pretty well though. I like the idea of the curved windows out front. I may have to borrow that.
  10. Brilliant! I love the van and the figures and kraang's suit. Very fitting to my childhood. Thank you for the memories.
  11. I have built it. I don't understand it. That's all. As far as hydrogen peroxide, you just use 3% or greater is my understanding. I used ClearCare contact lens solution since I was able to get it from work. Do you have that there? But I know you can pick the regular stuff up at any major retailer, even grocery stores.
  12. I agree on bins should be stackable or the same size. I have never bought into any system yet, but only because I like uniformity and that is very tricky. I don't like the small and large drawer systems sterilite has since they don't connect together too well. I don't mind the idea of having separate bins with lids instead of drawers only. My problem with drawers is (in a lot anyway) they aren't removable from the stand. I like to take my pieces out and dig through the container instead of having to sift through it while it is dangling from a shelf container. With drawers or even larger bins, it'd be great to have something that also fits inside them. Something a lot like Really Useful Boxes, only a lot cheaper. Those look great, but I can't swing the prices they are asking for. But it'd make organization a lot easier long term.
  13. Never would have thought of doing that. Very interesting. I've seen other people use technic plates to hold up shelves and things.
  14. They do it based on what pieces are in production at the time and what pieces can be separated into the set. It may have a second bonus by making the instructions easier, but I don't think that is the sole purpose. It's the same reason you will sometimes have two 1x3 plates instead of one 1x6 plate. It depends on what is available and what will make production easier. I'm sure Faefrost will have a great explanation for all of this.
  15. True, they could make another Viking in the future. I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking more along the lines when they pair them as male/female or good/evil. Since they had a male viking and a female valkyrie, which I had linked as the counterpart. The Romans are a little different in my mind for some reason. A soldier, a commander, and an emperor. But true, it was 3 different Roman themed figures.
  16. Thanks for the review. Interesting seeing it fresh. The set itself is iconic, but it is far from my favorite Modular. I never understood the color scheme. Red-brown with dark red and tan and dark blue? Very odd. I think the furniture makes a nice addition to it all. That piano especially is neat. So am I understanding the painter on the roof will be painting the building blue?? Bold choice. As stated, older white pieces do change color at times. I tried the peroxide technique people have mentioned on some old Blacktron II torsos I bought used on ebay. They are sparkly white now, so that was really neat seeing the change. I left them out in the sunlight for about 8 hours one day, and 8 the next day, then rinsed them and dried them. Maybe that will work with these pieces too?
  17. It can be frustrating having pieces missing, especially from a new build. It has happened to me before, so I understand. Although, it also has happened to me where I thought I was missing some pieces and got replacements to finish building and by the time I was done I somehow had extras leftover that normally wouldn't have been leftover. So mistakes do happen on everyone's part. Best of luck in finding the pieces OR securing pieces to finish building.
  18. that's the beauty of LEGO. You can use any color and any piece you desire. If you are going for a straight copy, then the groove brick is ideal. If you just want the basic shape of the building, then by all means go for a 1x2. But you wouldn't have to limit to green then.
  19. Interesting..it makes you wonder how much GameStop had to give to get the figure since the rest of the pre-order bonuses are things you can get elsewhere at any time. I had never heard of this figure until this game was being discussed, so he isn't a "must have." But at the same time, I do want him. I don't necessarily need the game since I still have yet to open the Marvel game that I bought only for IP. These figures get to be so expensive, you might as well buy the game with the figure if you think maybe sometime in the future you will want to play the game. I need to find someone that is willing to get the game and just give me the figure
  20. Thanks for the review. This is the second or third I've read so far. It is an interesting set to say the least. I'm not huge into Space, but I have recently been getting back into Blacktron II and M:Tron, so this is more interesting now than it would have been 6 months ago. With that said, I also don't love the barrels. I understand and applaud the reasoning behind using it, but too bad there wasn't a solid mold barrel instead of a barrel barrel. As in something that is round without the wooden ridges. But at the same time it works here. I don't love the giant hands anyway, even if an actual mech would look like that. I'd probably want to modify the arms, but keep the rest of the set as is. The color scheme doesn't bother me so much, although this doesn't feel classic space personally. The green space-people was a good idea since the other colors wouldn't have been interesting. So I can see those selling well. I thought this set would be bigger than it is, but next to that Ent I can see how tiny it actually is. It makes it even more impressive considering the amount of detail it provides.
  21. I typically place them in bins like this all connected together. I usually don't go looking for heads too often though, so it doesn't bother me. I think a lot of my heads are on random bodies, so I probably wouldn't be able to find the one I'm looking for anyway. With that said, where did you find these cardboard bins? they look really useful.
  22. I like how they did Hulk. Very good size compared to regular minifigures. But it is amazing to see how tiny he is compared to the Cave Troll. Cave Troll is my second pick. They did the coloring and printing spot on compared to the movies.
  23. I like the truck. Definitely creepy vibe coming from this. Even though my life involves eyeballs, I think I will skip this one
  24. First and foremost if you are going to change color you should look to see what colors the 1x2 brick with vertical groove comes in since that adds so much texture on the exterior.
  25. Since series 4 already had a Viking with the old helmet, I don't know if they would do another Viking in the future.
