Nicely done. I really like the figure posing too. Them falling is classic. The rockwork looks great too. My only question is, how did the orcs all get together in a group like that at the edge of a cliff? Where did they come from to get to that point of being cornered?

^Nicely done. Congratulations on being complete. I think those substitutions are necessary to be able to maintain any financial holding. You'll go broke otherwise! I luckily had a lot of pieces laying around to build the majority of CC and GG, so my actual financial contribution was relatively low. I made a huge order for sand green bricks for this set, but then I decided to switch to sand blue. I'm much happier with the result, but now I have all of these extra sand green bricks.

^Exactly. So our only hope is to have certain pieces with a wider appeal and hope the D2C set includes it. It is interesting how that scooter is in a $10 and a $160 set. But whatever works. I don't think religion matters when it comes to Santa. We were a really religious family growing up and Santa still played a part in our Christmas festivities. So the inclusion of Santa in this set doesn't bother me. I can get past the reindeer even considering they look decent enough and a molded part would be very unlikely. The building even looks decent. My only qualm will be the overall price of the set. People are thinking it will be cheaper, but it looks big enough for them to throw the $100 price on it again. I think once they started that trend, they won't be going back on it. Just look at the new Parisian Restaurant. It is at $160 instead of the usual $150. Just have to accept these sets won't be as cheap as they used to be.

First off, no Cafe Corner?? Poor AFOL. The builds look nice. I like the idea of having two different interiors to mirror imaged buildings. The tv is simple yet effective. The toilet is a smart use of parts. I really like the refridgerator for the smaller footprint of the kitchen. My only qualm is you did all this tiling on the floors, yet the stairs are studded. Keep up the great work.

Nicely done. I haven't been into trains too much, but this is a really great idea! My LEGO room already has built in bookshelves, but they are floor to ceiling, so I wouldn't be able to go on top of them unfortunately. But maybe I can figure something out. I will be interested to see some updates.

MOC: The Temple of the Twin Jaguars
TheLegoDr replied to Mark of Falworth's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
^I think you are thinking of dark tan/sand yellow. The build is quite astonishing. The vegetation clinches it, but the water flowing out of the jaguars is spot on. The bottom of plates make great stone detailing. I can hear the jungle sounds now! Keep up the good work. It's always fun to see your new MOCs.- 32 replies

I enter every set I get, I have yet to win anything. But I'm sure there are winners out there somewhere.

Using Lego Customer Service to Buy Minifigures
TheLegoDr replied to BrickBuilder3213's topic in General LEGO Discussion
They have a handful of pieces they will not sell, but will sell a lot of pieces on that site. Sometimes the prices are a lot higher than bricklink though because they take into account the production costs, not the aftermarket value. I know some pieces from Friends that don't have a lot of use in the AFOL community cost LEGO a lot to produce, but are relatively cheap on bricklink. I think it is the accessory packs for their hair. So keep that in mind when ordering. Plus, you do have to wait for them to update their inventory. And they don't always put everything in the online inventory to order. -
That's how I store my instructions too. But if I didn't build the set right away then I don't need the instructions. They just go in a stack. But I only have a few official sets together. Most aren't built. I just use the pieces for other things.

It is odd how some of the figures had two accessories and others only had one. I didn't expect more, but found it an interesting observation. I liked the slingshot print on Bart. A molded one would be great, but they printed one on a 1x2 tile for Lone Ranger and I think printed one on Ori for the Hobbit too...Sounds like LEGO needs a slingshot mold haha

Well, there may be no batmobile linked to Gotham, but I'm sure there can always be a way to get more Batman related things out there. I guess I didn't know what that show was about. Odd they aren't involving Batman in a show about Gotham. That picture does make me excited for another new batmobile though. I didn't care for this year's version. I liked the one that came in the Two-Face set though.

I looked at it yesterday and they had 37 too. It seems YOUR post really is helping them sell well. Makes sense considering it is at about 50% the going price of a complete assembly model. Plus you can buy multiples from one vendor, thus saving shipping. No brainer really.

Voting for Licensed IDEAS projects are not a lost cause :-)
TheLegoDr replied to HJR-Holland's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Licensed themes sells toys. The CEO (or someone) said so in an interview. Yes, licensed will work. No reason to not vote for them. This is saying it is really unlikely to get a set passed review that is already under a license LEGO has. There is a chance they were going to come up with that set anyway so it makes no sense for them to give someone else the money when they would do it in-house and keep that money. They came out with an AT-AT for this summer. No it isn't the same set, but they would never produce that large of a UCS model anyway so it doesn't matter. -
Really neat idea. I think you executed it well. I haven't considered doing this for any of my vehicles, but I haven't built too many either. Keep up the great work.

LEGO Simpsons Episode release theories?
TheLegoDr replied to Maniac4Legos's topic in Culture & Multimedia
^True. I haven't kept up on the release schedule, but they typically are released a little slower since it had such a backlog of seasons to transfer to DVD. Plus, being specialized, I'd expect it to be released on its own. However, I can't imagine it being that expensive considering it is ONE episode..so I don't know how good of a money maker it will be. -
Using Lego Customer Service to Buy Minifigures
TheLegoDr replied to BrickBuilder3213's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Definitely no go on exclusive licensed pieces. They specifically say that about Star Wars in particular, but I'm sure it is spread across all licenses. Sometimes they don't have all of the parts in stock. I've noticed a lot of heads have been out of stock with no in-stock date, which was odd. For me, it has been hit/miss about minifigures. There are certain pieces I'd want, but if they don't have it in stock, then you might as well look in the aftermarket. (It doesn't help me much since most of the only themes I buy are Licensed) -
Interesting idea. I don't think I've ever seen a round office building. But something about the roundness makes me think of the Daily Planet.

The Kid - I was expecting they didn't use light bley hands because they didn't exist in that color. A quick check to bricklink shows they did have light bley hands in like 3 or 4 sets in 2004/2005 (one actually including the Emperor), but then they didn't surface again until 2013/2014, meaning they weren't in production in that color during the production run of the Death Star. That would explain that. Probably couldn't justify bringing out that mold in that color for one set. But with that said, they are plentiful now, so you could always switch it out on your own. I unfortunately passed on May the 4th due to not having enough sets I am interested in. I definitely still want a Revan, but I'll end up picking him up later for an absurd amount of money on his own. If the summer sets would have been available, I would have made a purchase right away.

Nicely done. I remember that episode. Why would you want to control it any other way than the original?? Mr. Garrison looks spot on.

Looking back at my post in early January, things have definitely changed. I have become more of a minifigure person instead of sets, so instead of all Super Hero sets as I expected originally, I ended up just getting a handful of the figures I wanted. I did get all of the CMF figures so far. And a handful of LEGO Movie figures. No exclusive sets yet. Maybe for Christmas (if they are still around). And then of course Middle Earth sets that come out. Interesting how a budget can change things, huh.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
The bid is up to 12.50 now, so the price is definitely climbing. I think someone will still get a decent deal on it considering most promo polybags go for around 20 on average (from what I've seen). I definitely will pick it up if I can find it. But it isn't something I'll search the globe for if I don't get it. -
As far as I am aware, all boxes have the same distribution. Take a look at White Fang's review. He's usually pretty thorough. I don't see why LEGO would alter the distribution rate per box based on the retail outlet they are sold at. That seems like it would be too much extra work. Plus it wouldn't guarantee the number of complete sets a box should have, therefore would upset a great number of people that buy the box sealed. With that said, it is entirely possible someone is feeling the bags and thinking they are something else and the numbers end up skewed. OR another entirely possibly/logical explanation would be someone buying figures and then returning them later. You can buy from one Target and then return to another Target (I do that all the time), so they would put it back with their stock, which could change their distribution numbers. You could do the same (buy from Wal-Mart and return to Target) but that seems silly since you would only get store credit instead of money back. Either way, the figures were incredibly easy to feel for. I didn't think the paper/plate got in the way anymore than they normally do. Just shake the bag while holding those pieces to allow the rest of the pieces to go to the corner. Then you have free reign. And I'm not trying to be rude, but I am unsure how you could mistake Lisa for Itchy. Their heads are completely different. Two giant ears compared to spikes...

^You should delete the items you ordered so they won't show up in future wanted lists. That is the most logical step. For me, I actually had two separate Want Lists for GG and CC. One was titled NEED and the other HAVE, that way I could keep track of what was already ordered and what wasn't, while still maintaining the full inventory at any given time. Not sure why I did this, but it worked out okay. Plus, it is kind of neat deleting items. Makes you feel accomplished. Having to delete my whole want list was like lifting a burden off of my shoulders. I know that sounds bad, but I mean it in a good way. I think there may be a feature that allows you to delete the products you order from your wanted list. Never looked for it though. As for pictures, I really slack in that department. I have older MOCs from last year that I never took pictures of, and have since dismantled...not smart.

That is how it normally is. I've never seen the prices on USA BnP website. After compiling a list they do send you an email with the individual part numbers and prices for each. But if you wanted to remove a lot of them you have to call them and have them manually remove them. They get annoyed whenever I do this. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just put the pricing on the US page too to avoid that since they obviously do it for Europe.
