  1. Nicely done. Very interesting idea. I like the cart and the use of ostriches (don't see them too often). To be honest, I haven't been able to keep up with the stories in GoH as much as I'd like, so I don't quite know what is going on. But I'd almost want to see another take on this. Maybe having an evil counterpart hijack one of the wagons to "take the backroads" without hassle. Obviously it would raise some question from the guard tower, but it could be a fun little story. Keep it up with this. I like what I am seeing.
  2. Very neat idea. I don't have that set built. It's still in the box. But this is a good use of the pieces. I still don't quite understand steampunk-esque things, but this seems to fit in nicely with what I have seen. The only difference I would make (which is something I do to my ships) is make the deck fully covered instead of open like most LEGO ships are. But I like the engines/fans.
  3. I'd think it is a combination of things. First, it was in a limited release series. Look at a lot of those figures, even the "not cool" figures and they still fetch a higher pricetag than a lot of newer series. Second, people are obsessed with zombies for some reason. So I'm sure there aren't a lot available on the market as it is. I don't know what that converts into for USD, but I always see them at around low $20s here, so definitely a hot commodity everywhere. Speaking of which, I still need one for my collection too.
  4. Very neat! I like the story. I like the build. I'd almost recommend having at least one more soldier trying to get away. But very neat idea with the search dogs chasing down people. Keep up the great work!
  5. Brilliant! I love this ship. I don't recall seeing it as a child, but when I came out of my box (dark ages), I knew I had to get it. I then did lots of research and just wasn't satisfied with the used price, so set out to build my own. Again, I didn't care for the used price of what that would take, I decided to just rebuild it with my own flare and updated colors. I am actually more satisfied with my version than the original. But the original is always something to admire. Congrats.
  6. I haven't seen the Lex Luther set in a long time. I think it must have sold out around here and never was re-ordered since it was an older set. I guess it was on clearance 50% for a while. I picked one up right away. I would highly recommend it. The figures are great and exclusive. There is a chance they will have new figures next year in sets, but I don't know how much they will actually update them. Superman didn't look different in the BG game, only WW did.
  7. The LEGO movie is a licensed theme. It is licensed to Warner Brothers. It is linked to a movie franchise, as opposed to an in-house theme. And prices will continue to rise. They have only risen twice in a handful of years with the minifigures out, so ultimately probably not a big deal. But still spending more than $3 starts to be a burden. I don't think I'll be able to complete the collections anymore. Just on the Simpsons, I spent way more than I would have preferred. In order to buy the CMFs, I have to cut out other sets, so LEGO doesn't ultimately get more money from me. But they do still get my money, unless I find them cheaper through aftermarket sellers.
  8. Since the barding is in good condition, I'd say you probably spent about average. From what I've seen, that particular barding goes for $7-10+ on its own. You can find them cheaper, but usually the clips are broken or has some fading. As for the figures, probably pretty average. I don't know how much the Islanders go for these days. Generic pirates are usually pretty cheap. These pirates aren't of the unique variety. So if you approximate $3 per figure, then about $7 for the barding, it is about average. Good find though.
  9. I have always preferred 1x bricks. I have a lot of 2x bricks in a box that never gets opened. However, when I was last at a LEGO store, someone came in with about 7 cups to re-use. The staff all seemed to know him. But he was stacking tons of white 2x bricks in his cups. I wonder what he is building... So some adults out there do like the 2x it seems. Faefrost - that is interesting. I've always preferred dark bley and only bought a small amount of light bley because I didn't have a use for them.
  10. Thanks for sharing. But I didn't see anything new. Everything is either out now or at least reviewed now and will be out in the coming months. It didn't even have the new Winter Village set that has been shown pictures of elsewhere.
  11. Brilliant. It fits right in. Had there ever been Batman fighting ghosts?
  12. I could actually see a market for CMF super heroes, but not in the way everyone wants. Everyone wants a ton of unique figures instead of buying expensive sets with them in it. I don't see LEGO ever doing that. However, I could see them basically re-releasing some of these figures in their official sets, but only after they have retired the set. That way you get better quality figures, but in the same context as all of these knock-offs. You get an old Robin or Batman figure in cheap Chinese plastic, or the same figure in ABS directly from LEGO. I'd rather give LEGO my money. Granted, I typically will buy the set anyway, but for the people who missed out on the sets, LEGO could still capture some purchases instead of aftermarket resellers getting all of the profit. LEGO would have had the design and molds already created. The downside would be to extend the life of some of those on the pipeline, which can make it difficult for other lines getting produced. Can they make their factories go 24/7?
  13. Tech Artist - the 1x1 with studs on 4 sides is actually called the Travis brick. A builder named Travis Kunce found a lot of creative uses for it. But anything with studs on the side becomes a SNOT brick. I was just at the Schaumberg store a few weeks ago and they had light bley (med stone gray) 2x2 tiles. I have yet to see dark bley anywhere. The Kansas City store has had light gray 2x2 also. And the Water Tower place in Chicago has only had light gray. And that is from asking them about pieces in the back too. So I think when people say gray, they may want to distinguish between them.
  14. I'd think the BAM/PAB would be the most likely to get stuff stolen from, but at the same time, even if small amounts did walk out I don't think it is that big of a loss to the store. All theft is bad, but the mark-up on those items are probably above and beyond what they are actually spending to make the pieces.
  15. That's the tricky thing. I saw Hobbit wave 2 sets initially at Wal-Mart when the movie came out, and have only seen them recently at one Wal-Mart in town. I never saw them at any of the Targets (I go about once a week). I find that very odd. I'd think availability would be higher than that when the movie is in theaters. But this Wal-Mart also has LOTR wave 2, which again, I haven't really seen anywhere. If it wasn't for me ordering from Shop at Home, I probably wouldn't have most sets.
  16. Your LOTR builds are always impressive. I've considered building something like this in the scale of Orthanc, just so I can have both towers. It's a lot of black that I don't have, so it will take a while to plan and build and order parts. This is very nicely done. I like the shaping. The scale is impressive. I don't have anything that sits that tall. Where do you have room for all of this? Keep up the great work.
  17. Very neat idea. I like the overall facade. Very realistic looking. Doesn't blend in super well with the rest of the Modulars because of the realism though, in my opinion. I like the interior details. Definitely a lot of great mini builds to help the figures do their daily work. My main concern, how are they supposed to get some of that stuff down the stairs? I think the heavy stuff on the upper levels will cause some problems going down stairs. Perhaps you should incorporate an elevator like the Town Hall into this to make it easier. Keep up the great work.
  18. To be perfectly honest, that thought never crossed my mind. I think I must suspend belief when I watch movies. Maybe that is why I am more entertained than some of my friends.
  19. ^It is mentioned in the conditions, but most often they will still send you another one with multiple orders. When I bought Orthanc last summer, they put in the Chima paper saying try out this free Chima set (the one that EVERYONE received). Only I didn't get a Chima set, only the paper talking about it. I called the customer service number and they said they would send one out to me right away. Sometimes they take care of you, other times they hassle you. But I'd still recommend calling them and letting them know what is going on. It is possible they ran out already? Martian Manhunter (more wanted than a balloon cart, I know) ran out really quickly. Maybe they didn't make a lot of them.
  20. It varies. I have tons of missing/broken pieces right out of the box, and others from my LUG claim they have never had any broken or missing pieces. We live in the same town! So who knows. I don't think you can fairly judge the quality of everything based on the country it came from. I've had plenty of pieces that didn't list China on the box that were broken. China gets a bad rap. And yes, it does have a different scale of quality there, that doesn't mean LEGO's involvement is also in the lower quality too. Just by having China on the box doesn't mean any pieces were made there. Maybe the box printing was done there. They list where everything is involved -- pieces, printing, instruction manual, stickers....
  21. Who would have thunk it? Different people want different things... My daughter also wants more pinks and purples to build with. That shows that she happens to like those colors and wants to use them. Friends sets are hitting it home as far as I can tell. Yes, there are some play features that may be a bit too girly or stereotypical, but overall they are getting a good grip on that part of the market.
  22. Overall they look good. I think Joffrey should have blonder hair, maybe the Malfoy hairpiece? Cersei is spot on.
  23. I ordered that Winter Soldier/Venom/Odin set. The Venom in mine was throwaway worthy too. Very interesting. The WS was pretty neat. Green Arrow was decent. Cyclops was kind of a joke, but good thing we are getting an official one. Odin was really neat to see in LEGO form. It is too bad they didn't do a Thor 2 set. As much as I originally wanted Dark Elves, I actually would have preferred the heroes in LEGO form and skipped the Elves.
  24. That could be too. I just always translate jester=entertainment for the nobles. And I couldn't see 8BricKMario's picture either. I only could see the repost of CM4S.
  25. I've been wanting to motorize the 4841 HE also. I looked it up before on what pieces to get, but I forgot. I'll have to look into that again. I agree, there is never enough straight track it seems. LEGO surely knows this.
