  1. Yes, I know this is not 'train' related but when I was looking around of Flickr I saw a lot of builders have cats (**Caugh Caugh Cale, Raised, etc**) and I saw none with dog photos. Are we all cat people? I am a dog owner, am I a rarity in this hobby? Please answer this question for all are you a cat, dog, or something else person. So post your pets with your bricks and answer this question for all. SHOW ME THE PETS(money) -Coal Fired PS am I crazy for asking this?
  2. So, I've attempted my first Modular. I was limited by the bricks I have, (and a couple of bricks seem to have somehow fallen off), but it's the right dimensions to fit alongside the official Modular Buildings. Just wondering what thoughts/advice people may have to help me improve my modular building skills? So, here's the house And the people and animals who live there There's an open plan living area on the ground floor With a kitchen area A downstairs WC & a place to sit Going up the stairs, we reach the bedroom area There's an en suite shower & a balcony with Jaccuzzi From there, we can access the roof terrace Where the minifigures like to hold barbecue parties I used transparent coloured bricks where appropriate to let in light but retain privacy
  3. I wanted to create some different areas based on the four elements represented by the four main elves, I've mixed parts from all kinds of different sets to create these places. This one is the earth themed home for Farran the Earth Elf. I wanted it to be part cottage, part treehouse. It's mostly parts from The Elves Treetop Hideaway and the Ewok Village sets. I attached my waterfall cave alongside the treehouse I also made a fire themed volcano cave with a tall treehouse/tower neighbouring it. It's mostly made from a Lego Friends set that has a cabin and a waterfall. I kept the cabin and built the tower above it and changed the waterfall into a volcano. I've created a workshop for the Air Elf Aira in one section of the tower with a bedroom above it, an observing platform with a telescope above that and a turret room on the top. The webisodes show that Azari the fire elf is homeless and just crashes with the other elves, but I've given her a warm place to sleep inside the volcano. I kept the camp beds in the cabin for the humans to sleep in when they visit Elvendale. And here's some random pictures..
  4. Disclaimer: I looked for a topic like that but haven't found any, so I figured I'll start a new one. How do you manage to secure your LEGO collection from pets? Of course, having a display cabinet is an obvious solution, but I'm talking about cases (no pun intended) when having a big glassy bulky furniture thing is a no-no. Real life example is my case: I live in a very small apartment and even with a full-glass cabinet it'll get really crammed, especially due to the fact I need it to display huge stuff, I'm talking 45+ studs MOCs and sets. I have two cats. One of them is docile and calm, but the other one is a really roguish piece of work. And he loves to chew. He chews book covers, he chews phone charger cables... he also chewed the protruding elements of my builds and sets and seemingly enjoys the rubberized tips of rotor blades of my 42052 Heavy Lift Helicopter. The damage to the rubber is visible enough to make me concerned (and want to replace the blades) . Even when the chopper was on a seemingly unreachable shelf, he still managed to take a chomp or two. So I'm trying the chemical warfare now, as it seems most obvious and easy: I rubbed Vicks VapoRub ointment into the rubber segments of the blades. Don't know how long the scent will remain, but as for now, the cat moves away in disgust. Fringe benefits are that the chopper generates fresh scent of eucalyptus, mint and camphor when the rotors spin and those tips, oiled a bit with all those Vicks' ingredients, look quite nice and shiny. I just hope it won't damage the parts. I want to learn and exchange other methods of securing the parts. The least invasive the better.

    Let's Talk Reptiles

Who else here loves reptiles? Just comment your thoughts and what not about all kinds of reptiles! My favorite reptile has to be Bearded Dragons. It's ironic though since I do not have any yet! Nonetheless, I know just about everything there is to know about them. I like regular ones, leatherbacks, and silkbacks all the same. Though, silkbacks are a bit more difficult to care from what I hear, and more expensive. I plan to get two Beardies and have them placed in a 75 gallon tank by this summer. It would be cool to have hypos, trans, or even trans-hypos but I'd rather save the money and get regulars. As for colors, I want to go with either reds, oranges, yellows, or the standard tan color that most regulars are. I would include darker colored ones but I haven't seen them in stores like PetSmart or PetCo. Enough about me talking about Bearded Dragons, what kinds of reptiles do you guys like?
