  1. Well done. I'm a fan of the bathroom. I've been meaning to build my own HP MOCs, but they keep getting put on the backburner. Keep up the good work.
  2. Oh I always help.. look here kid, this $100 set is the best there is. Your mom should buy you this.. then I leave abruptly.. (just kidding) I actually mind my own business. The only time I care what other people are buying if they are trying to buy what I want and there is only one copy left... (again kidding, I wouldn't talk someone out of a great set if there was only one copy. I'm sure I'd find it again soon enough) But I do mind my own business. I'm the type of person that hates talking to other people in general. So a stranger is out of the question. I'd much rather be in my own cave keeping to myself.
  3. I think this ship looks great. However, it must be very loosely based on that other ship, considering this looks almost exactly like a blacktron X-Wing and the Space Police set had the prison compartment in the back to break up the X-wing shape. Either way, I think this looks great. You did a good job with it. I don't know much about Blacktron 1. I mostly had Blacktron 2 sets as a kid.
  4. It is interesting looking back at build techniques and how revolutionary they may have been at the time, but now seem commonplace. Almost to the point where some of the older modulars feel blah compared to newer ones. With that said, you can't go wrong with any of them ultimately. Fire Brigade was my first, so I am really impressed with that one. However, Pet Shop was a great build in terms of you can modify the interior to your heart's content. Plus, I loved the PS side of it. Everyone raves about the townhome side, which is fine, but I prefer the other side. I like the loft and the little kitchenette area. To buy soon, I'd suggest PS if you can get a chance. If you want to try to get as many as you can, go for the oldest first and work your way up. If you are going for looks only, I'd also throw my suggestion as Parisian Restaurant. And it looks like that is what you are doing, so good call.
  5. Here it is in 2015..and you are finally building more?? haha As far as being seduced by a different theme, I'm not sure if that is the case for me. But I have recently been getting back into Sci-Fi (M:Tron/Blacktron) stuff from my youth, whereas I haven't been into Sci-Fi that much since getting back into LEGO a few years ago.. So it is tough to say. I was heavily into Castle as a kid. Dark ages hit. Harry Potter/Kingdoms bring me out of my Dark ages..and now I hardly buy any castle stuff, but do more Modulars/Licensed. I guess a seduction could have taken place.
  6. I've been getting back into my childhood LEGO lately. I have a handful of classic space and Futuron sets. But I was a bigger collector in the M:Tron, Blacktron 2, and Spyrius era. So a revival could be really neat. They've given nods in other sets and that might be because they have no reason to get back into those old factions. But Nexo Knights does have a blue/white falcon knight. Very similar to the Black Falcon heraldry, so maybe they will get more classic factions involved. As far as a revival of classic space...yes. I'd welcome it or something similar. The neo versions seem to be quite popular. But I am not a hardcore fanatic like some people.
  7. I wonder what will happen for the people who already have one? Will they issue a replacement parts pack to fix the issue? If it is too intensive of a redesign, that might be problematic.
  8. Clever building techniques. Definitely looks more muscular. Maybe if you attached more hoses on the top. You could use a 1x2 jumper instead of a tile by his head?
  9. Plus, Pet Shop and Palace Cinema are of the "old" price range. TLG might want to remove them from the line-up since the new sets are of a higher price. It might hurt sales of the new sets seeing a $150 modular next to a $170 modular. Just my opinion. But time available, one would think some of those would be on their way out anyway.
  10. I will be coming into some money this holiday season. What should I get? -I am into Modulars. Detective Office will already be on the list (I have the others that are currently available.) -I am into Super Hero figure collecting, but a lot of times it is as cheap or not much more for the full set vs just the figures. ----how are these sets? Sandman/Rhino. Batboat. Jokerland. Quinjet. -Mini Cooper vs Ferrari. (I have the VW van and enjoyed it more than expected, so thinking another car might be worthwhile, but not sure) -Kwik-E-Mart. (I have Simpson's House already. Big fan of the show growing up, but haven't watched it in a while)
  11. ^I'd also suggest as an "investment" to consider picking up sets that you would want to build. I agree that many others will likely like what you like. But I'm also of the mindset of "if you end up not selling it, it can be something you can still build on your own." Some sets may do well in the aftermarket, but you have no interest in them. If the aftermarket went bust (likely not), you'd be stuck with a bunch of sets you don't care about. With that said, definitely modulars are worthwhile for collectors/resellers alike. They do add great details.
  12. Good luck with it. You know they are releasing their own version. You might want to look at that before you build yours, just for pieces needed and/or scale. I had considered building my own Modular scale version, I still might. But once news of an official version I gave up. Seems silly to produce my own version of something LEGO already is making.
  13. That bottom dish he is standing on goes along with the Star Wars sets next year..almost all of them had one for the figures to stand on. I thought it was really weird.
  14. I haven't kept up enough to be in the know..cosmic boy? I hadn't heard of that promobag. The racers were likely a pass anyway other than a few key characters, but with short legs I agree, I won't be getting them because I needed printed legs. I guess Juniors set it is...maybe. It definitely isn't worth what it costs either.
  15. So I like that photoshop of the extra floor. How tall would it be with the extra floor compared to other older modulars (you know, back when they were bigger)?
  16. I agree. I don't want to have to buy 2 sets of $170 each to make a set worthwhile. This bank is waaaay too small for what it needs to be. I don't want a Town Hall esque sized bank (although we have plenty of them around here, that even look like Town Hall...very odd). But THIS bank could certainly have been bigger. I understand the want for a story, but it isn't needed in sets like this, unless they were selling worse than expected so thought they would grab a new target audience with the story. Kids aren't buying them, adults are. Maybe some adults buy them FOR their kids, but I doubt it. I buy them for me for display and sometimes my daughter will play with them, but she is bright enough to create her own story and not something that was drummed up for them. Either way, to add in a story hurts everything I liked about these buildings. Another $10 price hike is making it difficult to justify buying these, just like the CMFs...there is a point where enough is enough. Plus, bloating the piece count with tiny pieces because everything is tiled on the inside doesn't help justifying it. Sure, it has more pieces in total, but still the same piece count that other modulars had that were bigger. As much as I like a nice interior, I would rather have a better looking exterior/bigger scaled exterior and I'll worry about the interior. I like what others have suggested before by releasing a small set just involving interior details (furniture, small group of tiles for flooring, etc.). I think that could actually sell well. Granted, from what you read on these forums, people eat these sets up even with the higher price, so things won't ever change. I guess it comes down to me getting out of some of this hobby. It's becoming too expensive for me to handle. With all of that said, I do like the facade. I like the details and color scheme. It works well here. I just want it to be bigger. I'd expect a corner building (plus a bank no less) to be larger and more grand. The sand green windows are nice, but I don't know how much I'll use them in other settings until they come out with the 1x2x2 window. The zipline piece on the roof is a neat addition. I hadn't considered that. Things like that make me want to buy it, but I can't justify that price. The laundromat is a neat addition and I think it would be welcomed, if it was in a different setting. I understand the inclusion for the "story," but I also think that is a tad too small for what you get. I can see many modifications needing to be done, which seems silly. But I can't wait to see what others do with it and see if it persuades me to get one (although the earliest I will get it will be next Christmas).
  17. That is one way to build a modular without using many bricks...my concern is all those windows on the side will just be blocked when another building is next to it. Something to consider. The front windows make sense though. The actual studio looks well done with the separate editing room. I don't know much about tv production other than what I've seen in actual TV, but this seems fitting. The front facade is decent, although a big mix of colors. I'm assuming that was intentional? You wanted a sort of run down building? I would also agree about the decals. Some aren't put on straight, let alone the right size for some of the pieces used. Some of that is out of your hands, but some could be handled better. Keep up the good work. Certainly has potential.
  18. I will buy it, but I went be happy about it. Another price increase. It may be good value for money, but it seems it will be almost all small pieces AND the trend is to keep going up in price. Good for LEGO I guess. Since they are the hot thing right now and their profits are through the roof. I'm glad I've bought less. Especially with all of the problems...anyway back on topic Interesting details, but small building. The laundry doesn't match up too well with the back. I'd expect a bigger back facade, especially for s corner building. I understand the need for the laundry for the story, but raising the price, why keep a story? Kids aren't buying it. They weren't buying it before and most adults don't care about play value... I like sand green window. The black railing is neat. Ingots as decor is an interesting choice. It adds some depth but something feels off about them. Edit. It seems the modulars are in the same universe as Scooby doo...
  19. I have this set sealed in box still. I like the official set and would want to build it sometime. I hadn't even considered using the pieces to turn it into a Modular building. Seeing those examples above, very interesting idea and very well done MOCs. Now I have some thinking to do if I should follow suit or just stick to official version. Thanks for the inspiration.
  20. Well done. I had considered doing something similar. Basically remove the rear facade and focus on better interiors with the official modulars (and my own creations of course). That way you could have better accessibility for play if you were so inclined, plus showing it off easier at conventions. The concern for me would you have it on a turntable so people can see both exterior/interior, or only show one. If that is the case, why do an interior at all and just line up the tables with modular fronts. (another thing I've considered, just build interesting facades about 8 studs deep or so for structure).
  21. Overall, great scene. I like the shape of the castle. I like all of the details around the castle grounds. Definitely something to be proud of. With that said, and I understand why the technique is used, but the 1x1 round brick and regular brick combination to make rounded towers is very eye catching (in a bad way) when the rest of the castle is smooth. Especially since your other rounded tower is smooth too. Just my opinion. I'd like to see a castle with that technique, but have all of the walls a mix of the round and regular bricks. Maybe I will do that for my castle in the future. Otherwise I really like it.
  22. It is interesting how they think there is a market for a giant 4000 piece/$350 Ghostbuster's HQ, yet no interest for a similar scaled Minas Tirith??? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the HQ will be impressive, but it seems odd to me.
  23. I knew nothing about this set, but when it went on sale, I bought it. Still sealed. I'm torn on whether to build it or not. I knew nothing about the actual ship really, but I have been seeing these modifications to it and it looks a lot better than the official version. Maybe one day I'll get around to modding it to match some of these. You did a great job with it. I like the shaping of the cockpit for sure.
  24. Just looked...you have way with bots for sure! I really like those, especially the Space Police bot. I also like that Ice Planet sled. Too bad some of those pieces didn't come in those colors in real life (I'm looking at the 1x2 metallic silver piece that you switched to white). I think there could be some neat textures with that.
  25. I have quite a bit of old/worn/discolored brick. I'm of the mindset now that I could use it as filler when the time comes, but I have yet to need it. But previously I would have just left it in a bag taking up space instead of attempting to use it or get rid of it.
