  1. Like everyone else, I like the blinds. This could work well for Detective Office set too.
  2. While it isn't perfect, would a slightly modified Kraang work? I don't know much about this game. I've recently been getting into sci-fi building, so this has some neat ideas thrown in. Keep up the good work.
  3. Easiest way may be tiling over baseplates, but then the street and your "curb" will be the same height. So you would then need to build up all of your modulars by a plate to allow that actual curb effect. SNOT building the road would allow a built in curb based on the official building style. Although, I don't see how you could connect a baseplate to SNOT or plates considering the lack of anti-stud on the bottom. But two baseplates stacked on top of each other is equal to one brick height I believe.
  4. Brilliant. I will definitely have to look at rebrickable to see how that was made.
  5. I found a few Nexo sets at my local Target last night. I was surprised. The shelves are cleared out of LEGO, yet they had a ton of the minifigure cubes and a row or 2 of Nexo sets. Merlok and some $40 set with Clay? I think with the 2 Black Falcon robots. Either people aren't interested in it, OR they didn't realize it is a 2016 set so they don't know much about it, OR they are already tapped out for Christmas spending. Either way, I picked up Merlok. It looks like it could be neat for the price. I'll wait for sales on some of the others I think.
  6. Very well done. Although very fragile looking. I may have to borrow this idea. Sounds neat and my daughter will love it. But does Leia use 3 of the red-brown neck brackets for hair? As in one on each side? If so, I think I'll add a 1x1 stud to each to give her the side Buns. I wonder how that would look. Thanks for the inspiration. I'll have to consider some other designs for other princesses.
  7. ^You were able to order the new Vader helmet? Usually the licensed pieces aren't available. Sometimes a few can slip through, but I've never seen the Vader helmet on there as available. Maybe you got lucky.
  8. I agree. It is definitely about ability, not age. I hate going into a store and see parents in the LEGO aisle talking a kid out of certain sets because of the age range on the box. Maybe the kid can handle the build. Maybe they can't, but to not even give it a try! As for building, they need good hand-eye coordination. They need to be able to not only follow instructions, but to be able to sit still for an extended period of time. If they have no attention span, any sort of building will cause problems.
  9. Most LEGO sets these days "retire" at random times. Very few actually get the retiring soon label online. Also, some sets quit being sold in stores and only go to online for a time afterwards. Most LEGO employees have no idea when a set will retire, but they may know of shipments coming in. While that doesn't hold a lot of value, it may indicate if you need to track one down sooner than later. Also, prices on these sets always goes up. How much, who knows, but you will pay more if you wait too long. I always recommend getting it sooner. You can either pay more later and kick yourself or you can get it now and pay for it with money you don't have and kick yourself. Which way would you prefer?
  10. Not being serious, but a funny way to go about it is to agree to sell him the MOC and then pull the Harrison Ford on Conan stunt and have it shatter right in front of him... But I'm evil like that. I have no real information to give you that others have not already.
  11. And this is why I quit entering these contests. This looks great. The colors work together and there are some neat ideas involved. BUT I try to build my own entries like the official versions which don't employ a lot of these techniques and therefore my own entries pale in comparison to builds like this. Best of luck in the contest.
  12. Nicely done. The texturing is great. I was originally building my own castle last year and was doing light bley tiles on light bley walls, but I also like the addition of the 1x2 light bley plate to add some extra texture. I may have to borrow that idea for my own. I have it in my head, I need this huge castle, and then I get overwhelmed and quit working on it. But I can see from many of you GOH builders how smaller can work better than bigger. Big is impressive, but all of these details in a slightly smaller build is quite impressive also. Keep up the great work. I have enjoyed looking at your builds over the last few years.
  13. There is a new star wars movie coming out?
  14. Being the cheapest set of the wave, why would you expect a large box? Also, where are you seeing transparent axles? The trans orange pillars are antennae that have long been used in space themes. I don't see any other axles, maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?
  15. They just limit the number of sold parts available to focus on production elsewhere. Plus, they always have a huge inventory update early on in the year with all of the new sets. February it should be back up to order regular parts again. This has been a trend the last handful of years I've been ordering from them.

    Swing Ride

Well done. I just finished the ferris wheel not too long ago and thought about a swing ride. Although I agree, it is a bit fast. I'll probably alter mine a bit if I ever decide to build one. I'm still working on my own carousel. But this should fit in with the amusement park theme.
  17. I would recommend the set. It is quite nice, although I agree, rather large. I rebuilt mine in tan, but looking at it vs pictures of the original, I think I like the med blue better. But either way, I have it built and it sits on a shelf. At original MSRP, it was a good price/piece. So off topic, LEGO actually admitted they were rushed and re-released something? That is surprising. I thought we would always be in the dark about it.
  18. Interesting. I am unfamiliar with most space builds, but I've been getting interested in it again with sets from my youth. This is a neat overall build and story. I like the wall texturing (this is something I need to work on. Greebling is not my forte). The octopus is well used here. Keep up the good work. This gives me an idea!
  19. That birch is brilliant. The use of the new stud shooter is clever, although bulky in spots..although not too bad.
  20. I am under the understanding that they ship what you win to you and you trade after you receive it. If too many people want to trade, it becomes a large hassle for the organizers and they are already doing all of this. But I'll let them say for sure. I remember reading this or hearing of this from previous years.
  21. Technically this is a recolored Barbershop, since the Detective Office is still the same color It looks okay. I prefer the blue personally. The sign does stick out a bit more now that the blue is gone, but you could leave it just as easily. I wonder what the actual Detective Office would look like with other colored brick bricks...we have dark tan, dark red, sand green, light and dark bley.
  22. Has anyone tried ripping one? Like seeing how much force is needed to rip an old cape vs the new cape? I think the idea was the new capes will not bend/crease when put into vehicles. They will flex more. You'd think this being a toy they would want better durability also, but they do seem more fragile.
  23. A simple and clever idea for a petri dish. And Sheldon needs his flags. Although I would recommend him holding an old Crusaders flag from the early 90s since his apartment's "crest" is very similar to that. But fun nonetheless.
  24. Definitely awesome prizes. There usually is a good mix. This year doesn't disappoint. It would be swell to win this year, but we will see how the draw goes. I think the odds are actually worse this year compared to last.
  25. Jesus the toddler. I wonder if He had a terrible twos spell... Nice scene though. It works well.
