  1. Very impressive. The scale is ridiculous obviously, but it does show me how well LEGO handled this building in terms of scale. Naturally these extra details really help and I love the interior scenes. I've been meaning to build around the official set with the proper vegetation. I know it won't be as impressive as this, but either way.. Have fun at Chicago. I hope this is easy to take apart in sections to haul.
  2. I realize this is a Marvel set and Nick Fury certainly could use all around head printing, but he isn't the only one that suffers. I'd go so far as to say Bane from Dark Knight Rises would actually benefit from all around head printing even more than Fury. With that said, the set looks decent enough for the price. I will pick one up for sure to pad my collection. I don't know anything about this version of Spider-man.
  3. All I've heard is they are adding the mini builds to the wall that they will change every so often. And the rest will still be loose pieces. I believe it is now called Pick and Build instead of Pick a Brick.
  4. custom or they brasso'd a whole bunch of King Theoden's helmets...
  5. That stings... I actually would have purchased sets. SO many cool animals. I like the "humans" wearing animal helmets and things instead of humanoid animals being the actual. And lots of neat torso ideas. That is what has limited the appeal to me. I realize the CHI is important, but having CHI on every torso made me not want any. Otherwise there were great colors and designs. It has a very Thundercats feel to these lions. I would have been all over that. And those gorillas are perfect Planet of the Apes.
  6. I usually don't feel too part limited. It all depends on what I'm building of course. Typically if I don't have the piece in the right color, depending on where it will go in the MOC, I will use a different color, but the right piece so I can still build it and keep the momentum going and order the right color later. I ended up building Darth Maul's lightsaber recently and I surprisingly had all of the pieces in my collection. I was expecting to have to order some. The bigger problem is if the piece you don't have is towards the beginning or is a central piece and it would be difficult to build around it knowing you are going to take it all back apart. That might indicate why most of my builds aren't super sturdy. But sometimes it does surprise you how you think you'll have enough pieces and run out. I ordered 700 sand green cheese slopes for my Hogwarts MOC, but I can easily see myself running out of those after having seen how quickly you need pieces.
  7. ^It's official. Megabloks is the future! I have seen some older styles of brands that have really good clutch. But since I haven't purchased any non LEGO brands since the 90s, I don't know how they are now. I do have King's Mountain Fortress that has been built since the early 90s. I put it into storage still built and took it out a few years ago. I hadn't noticed any cracks. I also didn't take it apart to check clutch on a lot of the pieces, but the few I did take off had good clutch still.
  8. I'd like to know if it can be replaced without damage as well. None of mine are burnt out yet, but I'd like to know for future use. Otherwise, are there any good third party light systems that would work without taking up too much space? I would like something for Orthanc in the palantir room. I like the red light, but I wonder if something would be more sustainable than the official piece.
  9. I saw an article today about it. Hard to believe, but understandable. Filming for the Hobbit was difficult since he couldn't fly over to NZ due to potential complications. The movies will surely leave an impact on future generations. I celebrated his life today by listening to him read Poe on youtube. But others should celebrate by listening to his Heavy Metal Christmas album methinks.
  10. I was unaware that many pieces came in pearl gold. Next step is to make him in yellow with different pieces to get different shaping and see what you prefer... Although, Cogsworth would be a welcome addition. (Maybe you should make the broom that Lumiere always kisses on).
  11. Why even bother with the official kit when you see this!
  12. Ultimately I end up buying them all because eventually I'll need a torso or face or accessory.. As far as this series goes, gotta have them all! My daughter will want all of them also. This will be expensive. First series in a while where I'll want multiples of multiple figures.
  13. Well done. It is very fitting. The shaping is what I'd expect to see in a transporter dropship. As far as cracked pieces, I didn't notice any. I believe that is how the mold is on those metallic pieces. All of mine are like that too and there isn't a slit in the plastic anywhere.
  14. Yes, there is a new movie in the Harry Potter Universe, but that doesn't guarantee we will get new sets. Plus, there won't be that many familiar characters in these movies, so it might be a tough sell to people to get invested in LEGO sets. (don't get me wrong, I'd gladly welcome more HP sets/figures), but I haven't heard anything about it so far. As far as LOTR, no words..
  15. It's like the Simpsons episode where Kang and Kodos Halloween episode...can't please everyone. The wheels will be the biggest part of this. I've thought about buying some, but I'll take my chances winning it. I'm due, right?
  16. Unless you want to spend lots of money, you should stick to specific themes. It is also advisable to not be a completionist. I know for my own collection, I don't have the time to MOC as much as I want, nor do I have the money. If I buy a few select sets on sales, I am lucky. It means I've missed out on a few sets over the last few years. But setting up a budget and sticking with it will make it easier for you to know what you actually want and what you can live without. I originally was buying every set I could find, but then I realized I just don't care about some sets, so why am I buying it? Like you, because of the unique colors or pieces or figures...it all gets thrown into boxes anyway, so what's the purpose.
  17. I agree they should be put in their own topics, but the way this is worded it doesn't come off as a moc. It simply says game of thrones characters. To be honest, I really only like Cersai. The others dont line up as well. But that's just my opinion. Dany should be younger looking, but skin tone young faces are hard to come by. I agree about the men's hair being to be switched. I'd suggest either the long tousled hair or the short tousled for Jaime, depending on when you want to depict him. Tywin definitely needs light tan hair instead of white. Anyway, fun to look at. I'll have to post my versions sometime (in my own post)
  18. How is that different from the Two-Face chase set? I realize this has the missiles up front with the rounded area, but the rest of the shaping doesn't look THAT different to me...another reason for me to pass on the Jokerland set.
  19. I had every intention to do something similar to this. But then my project got derailed when my basement flooded with the rain we had recently... I'm sure I'll pick it back up eventually. Basically I wanted to recreate many old castle sets into my own versions (new pieces, new build techniques, etc). And this certainly fits the bill. I like the overall shaping you've created. It does make you feel for the original, without actually looking at the original.
  20. AFOLs want one thing. Children (the target market) wants another. Who is the IDEAS market geared toward since it isn't found in most retail outlets? Minas Tirith was not going to happen for scale and price. Now, if someone can come up with something smaller and submit that to IDEAS, maybe we can get something working. Most likely the front gate or even the courtyard up top. Now we need to add in some play value of course. But they had battle at the Black Gate, so obviously someone at LEGO thought a giant door would sell. Why not incorporate that with Gondor and get some MOCs set up so we can support them. Something smaller, maybe $50 range would probably be all the higher it should go. If it could be even smaller, I could see them moving it a lot easier. At potentially $200+ for Minas Tirith, they weren't going to be moving a lot of product.
  21. This certainly is an offensive subject matter, but that is "art." It can make people feel uneasy. Now I don't agree with all forms of art, but to cast censorship on this, does cast censorship on history as a whole, which I don't think is possible. As stated, there are a lot of dark things in the past. We certainly shouldn't forget them and we certainly shouldn't repeat them. With that said, the build is good. I love the tree trunk. I don't care much for the actual branches though. I do think this build NEEDS the narrative of the poem/song. Without it, it appears someone wanted to hang some black LEGO figures. With it, it shows that it is recreating a horrible photo. This certainly has created a response from the community.
  22. Even without it being a theme park ride, it looks like a representable castle. My daughter would love this.
  23. Amazing. The only word for it. Definitely resembles the show. I can't even begin to think of how to incorporate the pieces underneath the armor. In all of the GOT MOCs I thought about doing, this one never came up. Color me impressed.
  24. I have only seen them at a TRU (almost all sold out other than I-Rex) and saw 2 sets at a Wal-Mart. I haven't seen tags or spots on the shelf for them anywhere else. And the Wal-Mart's location was very odd. It wasn't in the LEGO aisle. It was a few aisles over on an endcap with other JW merchandise.
  25. They are found all out for dimensions..I went be playing the game, but u can see these packs selling well.
