Bricklinking Vs. Buying 2nd Hannd Tower of Orthanc
TheLegoDr replied to fighterpilot105's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
More than double the current sealed is the current bricklinked price without shipping. I added it as a set for my inventory. So if you make no substitutions and have to buy all pieces, it will cost that much. Might as well find a sealed set somewhere. Most sets go above msrp, when bricklinked. -
Pretty much. If you have the set, you are a big enough fan. So might as well do this.

Very well done. This does look better than the mish mash of what it was. I didn't buy the set because of perceived value. Although I would like some of the pieces to make my own Funhouse park like this. I may have to borrow a few ideas. This is me being weird, but my qualm is I would omit Superman/Supergirl/Justice League from mine and only have Batman related heroes, Batgirl, Robin, probably Nightwing or Damian Robin. Some other people to work together. I like keeping the Rogues together with the actual Hero. Also I would use the newer Freeze, but that's just me. But I like the build overall.

I do like the dripping of the symbiote. Didn't the actual scene use rods or a bell or something to "break" away the symbiote? Otherwise, neat build. Very interesting. And after this movie, how many times have you seen Tobey McGuire or Topher Grace in anything? Maybe Spiderman is cursed too, since they keep changing that actor also.

This seems too far fetched to be real. That many missing pieces and replacement colored pieces? LEGO has a highly sensitive process full of scales that covers the weight of sets. That many missing pieces would raise a lot of red flags. Does LEGO make mistakes? Yes, all the time. But never to this degree. And most of their mistakes tend to be color variation. And believe me, I've had many mistakes happen over the last few years. So many that I'm weary of buying LEGO in general, so I'm not a 100% LEGO fanboy. But this doesn't seem real.

I actually like the head in the Winter Soldier polybag as Sebastian Stan. It got the shaping down right, although one side had the mask and the other the mouth cover. But it looked good. War Machine, not sure why they changed the head.

In your description you call it The Big Bang Theory, fyi. Otherwise it looks neat. I like the idea of a Seinfeld set, although LEGO won't produce it. It isn't currently on TV and that seems to limit the appeal automatically. But the MOC itself looks decent. The shaping overall is good. Some more details could always help out though. Keep up the interesting work.

It does make sense they would include a Robin to be rescued, but I've read a lot of Batman graphic novels recently and the different Robins in them never show fear from what I've seen, yet almost every Robin minifigure has a scared face. Very odd. Either way, the set sounds fun. I can't wait to pick it up. I have skipped on the sky high battle, only because I didn't care for the vehicles, and I didn't need another Batman since isn't it the same as the batmobile version? And only a different leg assembly on superman, so I don't need that. I really only want Wonder Woman out of that set and it seems I can't justify the cost for just her.

Very clever builds. I realize that is what you are going for, so it seems to be working. I have been wanting to build more LEGO Harry Potter vignettes/dioramas of some sort, I just keep putting it off for other projects I am finishing up. I like that you went small and you could technically display a lot together if you so chose to. I was thinking more favorite/most momentous scene in each movie and scale it out to fit a 32x32 baseplate per scene. So then I could have 8 dioramas (1 from each film) and have a nice display for LEGO shows our LUG does. We will see. But I will definitely look back at this for inspiration or ideas. Keep up the good work.

Is that the official LEGO batpod? it looks familiar. I will say I was not as impressed with the batpod after building it as I was with the Tumbler. Looking at pictures it looked good, but having it in the brick, I was a little disappointed, especially with out abrupt the instructions ended. I literally said out loud "that is it?"

["MOC"]- Lord of the Rings- Riders of Rohan
TheLegoDr replied to samiam391's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was impressed too, until I saw they were ALL Eomer. Either way, still an impressive number of figures and a fun scene in the movie. I should pick up more sometime. Although that does not look like Aragorn. But then again he is the true king (under the mountain)... (Although I prefer Aragorn as a king over the dwarf king). -
A minifigure head flowerpot? Penny is a sick, sick woman. Interesting idea. I think the exterior doesn't fit in at all with the style of modulars, but that's just my opinion. The interiors are fun, overall. I think you could make room for a bedroom, but have a smaller living space?

Interesting concept. I've been wanting to do a LOTR game of some sort, mostly was thinking of Pinball, but it looks like someone beat me to it. Granted, mine would look different than theirs. Also, everyone does chess, which is neat, but it is good to see some variety, like foosball. I hadn't considered foosball, but I haven't really played much myself. This is a neat concept. I would probably choose different people as my players, but that's just me. Good work. It will be interesting to see your updates if/when you do any.

Post Your Superhero Minifig Collections Here!
TheLegoDr replied to c0rnedfr0g's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think I'm OCD in a different way then. I HAVE to have all of the DC/ Marvel together with their team and all of the variants have to be next to each other too. I couldn't possibly mix them up for display. I think I might literally die. And I do mean literally. In any case, these do look neat all together like that. I have some shelves my dad built me so I'll have to paint them and get figures in there sometime. I also have mine arranged differently since I wouldn't display 2 of the same figure. As in one figure was in 2 sets, I would only display one of them and leave the other aside somewhere. I hadn't considered a larger frame with a 48x48 baseplate on the back, although those aren't cheap either. -
Considering the awnings are also dark green you might want to change those, but dark green really stands out in that set. It makes the set, in my opinion. Black might work, I've never thought of that for that building. I do have a different tan building with black widow project going and it should look decent.

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
You'd think Aladdin would have a little Abu mold, but it looks like both Aladdin and Genie have a lamp...seems a bit odd considering it should be the SAME lamp, right? For some of the figures, they will be must haves, others not so much. Although I'm sure I'll pick up a set for my daughter, if I can find them. I'm betting these will fly off the shelves compared to other licensed series. Also, a lot of these look easy to feel for, so that should make things interesting.- 4,155 replies

^Maybe that's why it wasn't on the list. Maybe they sold out so quickly they didn't have production scheduled for another wave to be produced so they missed out on a lot of sales?? Just guessing. As far as the rest of the line-up, I don't own any of the top sets nor do I really collect any of the top themes, except for a scattered SW purchase here and there. Very interesting. But then again, I'm not a big spender for LEGO, so they wouldn't even look at me as a target.

I've considered getting the set to make into a modular, but I just don't like medium blue and dark orange together. I like the colors separately though...I just can't pull the trigger, but maybe I will change my mind in the near future if it ever goes on sale. Neat interior additions. Definitely a cramped shop, so I'd prefer to take mine to go!

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
TheLegoDr replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
Ultimately you might want to modify QAR/BP to make them into a better ship. IF is a beauty (as are the other two) but the POTC ships seem a little incomplete for some reason. I have all three, but currently only have IF together, but I am thinking of taking it apart for space. I have 3 other ships together so they all need to go somewhere.- 502 replies

It is interesting considering they have recently released that grooved brick in pink and red-brown and tan. Maybe one day they will re-release the sand green version, but it is anyone's guess. I switched mine to sand blue in 2014 and I couldn't be happier. I don't even like the sand green grocer when I look at it now..but that's just me.

Nicely done. I like the look overall. I really like the laundromat here vs the bank. I understand the play features, but I actually like how this turned out more. The sand green pool hall is interesting. I like the medium nougat color more for that, but this definitely stands out in a crowd. I still have my Detective Office sitting in its box. I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet because I definitely want to mod it. I hadn't considered changing the business up, but maybe I will to make the barbershop bigger...only time will tell. Keep up the good work. I may have to look back at this for some details.

Interesting ideas. I like some of the details. We have a similar building in our historic district that has an ice cream shop and painting place and book shop all together. The building itself isn't very neat on the outside, but the interior is and the idea of having multiple business under one roof is appealling. Keep up the good work.

Love the Wave art print. Nice work!

My concern is the cash machine right in front of a window. Something seems off about that. Granted I think realistically and LEGO never is realistic.

Curses! I was going to build a modular with the kwik e mart! Great idea using that design for the middle building. Those colors do work together.
