Ahoy, captain Redbeard is looking for a ship for over 2 decades now
TheLegoDr replied to langezwieper's topic in LEGO Pirates
Keep an eye out too. A local Wal-Mart had the new ship for $70 recently. I didn't buy it but it looked like they were clearancing a lot of sets to make room for new August releases. -
The new mold has a hole. I did that with my CC before I scrapped it. Did they make yet another mold variant? Because I have a whole bunch of white without hinge, with hole.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Someone mentioned earlier about having different designers on the project. That may be a good idea, although outside of the story telling and extra detail on the interior, the exterior is still looking well done. They just have to make do with what they have available since they are incorporating a lot of other pieces into it elsewhere. But with different designers, out of the two Astrid has done, there has been a lot of negativity surrounding them, more so than Jamie's builds. So they'd have to include another designer. It makes you wonder, are there are others up to the task of Modular or do they prefer to have other Creator sets as their main focus? I agree about having more of the same color in different pieces. Something along the lines of PR with the variety in olive green, but in another new color. Cool light yellow definitely would be welcome. Dark brown would be interesting, although probably too dark for noticing details at times. And ^^ Since Winter village and Modulars are both under the Creator label, maybe they are linking the two in a fun way like that..haha -
Pet Shop 10218: door decoration piece different from box
TheLegoDr replied to ogelivation's topic in LEGO Town
They all have the hole in them. I started using the new mold for my CC version, but then I scrapped the whole project because everyone has a CC and I wanted something different. But the new ski was going through the flex tube just fine. -
^YMMV. My TRU won't sell any of those promos until after the promo period ends. So maybe next week they will put them out.

Raj wanted to be Wonder Woman since Penny refused and he hates Aquaman (but ultimately only because his costume wasn't a good choice). With that said, I love the set. Huge fan of TBBT and this set was well worth it. Although I will extend it to include the kitchen and front door.

REVIEW: 71010 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm like many others and am unhappy with the distribution. But LEGO knows what they are doing. Obviously a lot of the wanted figures are in the lower amounts, so people will have to buy more (but in my case, just get more annoyed and question why I continue this trend). I like pretty much all of them and will get a full 16 for completion sake (for some reason), and of course duplicates of the females for my daughter. I wouldn't mind having a few spectres for Harry Potter purposes and that is the only army builder I can think of that I would want. I may pick up an extra here and there of some of the others, but at that price it is rather difficult to justify more than the 16. -
Collecting/cashing in lego VIP points
TheLegoDr replied to BrickOn's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Typically from what I've seen, you will get VIP points added to your total based on the money spent. So if you buy 100$ worth of something, but you spend 100$ worth of VIP points, you wouldn't get any new VIP points. Likewise, if you spend 100$ and use 50$ worth of VIP points, you would get the 50 VIP points for what you spent. Does that make sense? -
It's been fun seeing the updates to this. This is incredible. Definitely a sight to see! I'd love to do something similar (meaning, a large Winter village layout) but I doubt I ever will. Too many other projects and lack of time/money will prohibit this. But I like looking at yours for inspiration if I ever am able to do it. Keep up the great work. I'm going to save this post to look back in the future.

I hadn't thought of using MMV as WV sets. But looking at just the white slopes, something seems amiss. I'd recommend utilizing the plate structure like the Post Office with some snow melting. I could see that work for the MMV sets. And I do agree some wintery/Christmassy details would help. I may have to consider doing something with my MMV since it is just sitting there on my shelf.

I think LEGO would be silly not to continue Pirates in some form...most likely, the ninjago theme will take care of it for a year and then POTC will help continue the trend. I don't see why LEGO wouldn't continue with that. The movies must be making enough money to warrant another sequel. I don't know any sales figures, but the sales can't be too bad considering they would have only planned on a few key sets that went along with the movie promotion. Plus, Disney and LEGO love working together.

How I restored 80's minifigs from my childhood
TheLegoDr replied to Kalais's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What type of decal paper did you use? Those look perfect! I'd almost want to do that to amass a huge army of my favorites...do you have any tips/suggestions? -

It seems almost everyone displays DO right next to the PS, so then you get Al's Pets in every town..I don't understand. Why? I wouldn't have two blue buildings next to each other. Maybe switch the Townhome and the Pet shop... that bothers me more than the height difference.. Yes, it does seem small. I will probably get the DO this Christmas, but I have plans to modify it for sure.

^Good point. These do come off as higher amount of sci-fi than medieval setting. So well will see what happens. I'm hoping for new figures/weapons/cool pieces in useful colors... And naturally I hope the sets themselves look decent to justify buying it.

That looks amazing. A great recolor/redesign of the SSS. Although, in my opinion, that ship looks more M:Tron to me. Just the shaping is different. Blacktron I had a certain look to it, and Blacktron II changed it up a bit with the bubble cockpits and whatnot. M:Tron had the same non-bubble cockpits as most other space themes. So I could easily see SSS as an M:Tron recolor/redesign (you just gave me an idea). Although I really like this Blacktron III idea. Although, I am definitely a Blacktron II supporter, so I may have to consider creating something like this for my fleet..

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

You could almost use Frodo's dark brown jacket torso for him also. The undershirt wouldn't work so much, but I could maybe see it in a Western setting..

Introducing Co-Go modular supermarket (MOC)
TheLegoDr replied to MrGeographicus's topic in LEGO Town
I'm assuming with the steps that it would be extremely difficult for anyone to buy too much at any one time. No carts plus not able to get the carts down to the vehicle. I'm assuming this will be like a small market where people can supplement their grocery needs, but not be an all in one shop. It looks very streamlined so far. It will be interesting to see where it takes you. (And I agree about the 5 high doors/windows. Also to keep in line with the newer Modulars. And good news for you, just last year they released a light blue-gray 6 high frame) Sarles - as far as guidance for aesthetics, basically look at the official sets and pick apart the ideas you like. There are countless MOCs on here that show some great designs. A lot of the designers are very helpful if you have questions. I've also went to flickr and looked for the cafe corner LEGO group. And standards are as follows. -
Dentist for sure is the winner here. Good eye for detail in the clinic. I agree about a bike shop on the ground floor. Also, I would have went with smaller wide stairs instead of 6 wide, but that might be to accommodate the bikes. If that is the case, then moving it to the ground floor would allow you to use 4 wide stairs like many other modulars and get more space for the next level. Also, I would be too scared to go up the spiral stairs...no railing, no wall to guide. Not gonna live there, no way, no how. The bank is interesting, but I feel like there is too much yellow. Yellow can be a good accent color, but sometimes it is overwhelming. I may be the only one. I think this is one of my problems, I haven't been in too many downtown buildings, other than the ground floor. So I never understood how people (or why for that matter) would want to go up. I don't mind going up stairs, but sometimes it seems unnecessary depending on the building.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
^True, a downtown so to speak would have other business before it would have those buildings present. Naturally, to feel like a "complete city" the Modular line would do well to accommodate those types of buildings/businesses. But unfortunately, a "true" downtown probably has mostly repeats of similar shops down the line...not something most LEGO enthusiasts will want and most designers probably won't want to sell. -
The master of the 16 wide is back again! Another great addition to the Modular world. Sand blue is my favorite LEGO color, so this fits right in. I like how you use the prominent color in the front and then round out the sides/back with another color. Something in my head doesn't allow me to do that, but it is easily the right thing to do for a layout since you can't see the sides/back as often. This should reaffirm the belief that I can use other consistent colors on the side/back without affecting the overall feel of the building. Interiors are lovely, but not always necessary. I understand having more bricks/time to devote towards just the layout itself. Part of me just wanted to build front facades, maybe 4 studs deep and call it good. But then I like the depth of the full building....who knows what time will tell. (I also am in need of time/money/inspiration...) Keep up the good work.

Similar price compared to Ferrari/Big Bang?? One is $100 and the other is $60. That's almost half as expensive. Either way, I ordered BBT this morning. It should be fun to have in my collection. I'd love to see Sheldon pretending he designed it and they were using it to demonstrate a scheme they were hatching...(or something, I'm not a writer).

thanks for the review..but in the last picture, I'm greatly disappointed not seeing Raj as Aquaman... I will definitely pick up this set. I can't wait until the 1st. I hope I am able to acquire one and they don't all sell out right away like all of the other Ideas sets...
