  1. This is one of LDD's greatest flaws: it is almost impossible to do this "properly" in the program, but it is easy in real life... i blame the hinge tool's bad design. Basically, as far as I know, (and I could be wrong) it ain't happening without slight overhang. sorry.
  2. Don't you hate it when your this close to finishing you latest MOC and the realize you didn't have enough parts to finish - thus having to order more, delaying the entire project for at least a week or two? I just need one (1) medium Big Ben Bricks flanged driving wheel to complete my latest steam loco, which I ordered this morning. I should have the rest of the breakdown train by early November / late October....
  3. Those can be quite expensive for such a big project compared to some other sand colors, such as sand blue or sand green, considering it's been gone from the color pallet since 2004. Thank you!
  4. I just replaced the clocktower with a attached two-sided hanging clock... I also added a dark bluish gray stripe to the roof to break up the monotonous new red colored walls. I also updated the ldd file / pictures to reflect these changes in the main post. Does it look better to anybody?
  5. Heading out for parts unknown, searching for lost treasure, discovering ancient civilizations, fighting the mysterious forces of evil and finding helpful allies, all in far-way lands not on any map! Check your compass, secure your gear and plot your course: It's all in a days work for the ADVENTURERS! (and yes, that was supposed to sound like a early TV / radio drama intro) Main post updated with a bigger, better depot!
  6. Changed the color of the factory, added a GE 44-ton diesel switcher in the same paint scheme and added the auto-racks into the same file. Please see the first post for details and the LDD file!
  7. Main post updated with new Garratt-type locomotive and new ballast hopper car, and the entire first post has been retyped and restructured. I hope you guys like it, it should be built somewhat soon, maybe in early November...
  8. Thanks. I feel if i can show how I built something, maybe someday, someone will find it and be inspired to use it. I give the ldd files away for this reason: even If I personally never build it, somebody else just might.
  9. Thanks @Hart New Bob! I really debated back and forth on the color: first the sand green, then dark bluish gray, on to regular green, and finally yellow. I think it stands out this way from all the other buildings on my layout.
  10. Go right ahead and use this, I would love to see it in open-top form!
  11. (I thought I had made a topic for this model by itself, but i can't find it. All I could find was it in a compilation thread from 2014.) I have recreated this grain elevator designed by my father way back in 1999. The building was built for the loading of hoppers like set 4536 (1991's Blue Hopper Car) or 10017 (2001's Hopper Wagon). This building has never been really well done officially, but it was touched upon in 3677 (2011's Red Cargo Train). However, grain hopper cars have been made at least four times in official sets, with the fourth model being in set 60098. (Heavy-Haul cargo train) I enlarged the opening for the filling of the grain cars by two studs width-wise so that larger engines and cars can fit through, such a steam engines with working side-rods. The building features a handle on the other side or operating the conveyor belt. The handle turns the conveyor belt to drop 1 x 1 round bricks into the funnel and the hopper car below. Though if it gets turned the wrong way, they drop into the bowels of the building to pop out of the bottom of the building where the base-plate would go, onto the table top itself. Here we see the hole I left in case "grain" went the wrong way on the conveyor belt, so it can fall out the bottom and not get stuck inside the model. This is an updated red version of set 4536 (Blue Hopper Car) from 1991. This green version uses a click hinge and platform to dump 1 x 1 round bricks out of the bottom of the hopper. The diesel locomotive model was inspired by Valgarise and his model called "Invencible".(see it here ) It looked like an nice big ALCO model so I copied it and built a matching booster unit in green as seen above. (although originally it was in black with a red base stripe when I first built it) The front unit where the engineer sits is called a Cab (or A) unit, while the trailing unit is called a Booster (or B) unit, though they can be used in more groups than just two, like as an A-B-B-A set as used on the Santa Fe Super Chief. For my purposes, I only use a A-B setup at most. Here is the original grain elevator that inspired my model. It was built around 1999-ish by my father. Comments, Questions, & complaints are always welcome, and the elevator model (plus a half-dozen green hopper cars) should be built by Christmas / beginning of 2019. As you can see, the engine units have already been built. Any thoughts?
  12. (NOTE to the mods: This model could go in the adventure forum, but since it's origin is a CITY-like set, I placed it here in the town forum. I hope that's okay!) Heading out for parts unknown, searching for lost treasure, discovering ancient civilizations, fighting the mysterious forces of evil and finding helpful allies, all in far-way lands not on any map! Check your compass, secure your gear and plot your course: It's all in a days work for the ADVENTURERS! (and yes, that was supposed to sound like a early TV / radio drama intro. ) I took the "Old Fishing Store" Ideas set number 21310 and turned back the clock on it from a rundown fishing shop in the modern era to a modular 1920's supply depot for Johnny Thunder and his friends, also known as the Adventurers. I added a set 7596-style freight Crane that's a part of "Trash Compacter Escape" (a Toy Story 3 set from 2010). I revised the color scheme of the mainly yellow building instead of the original sand green, and removed a ton of the mixed bunch of colors that were used a "patch jobs" on the dock and building proper. I removed the roof and redid it completely to be brick-built with slopes instead of plates and tiles at an certain angle. I also stripped the many windows styles off and replaced them with a single type. I added a warehouse section to the lower floor by sending one of the walls about 16 studs back, allowing for storage space for various equipment not yet designed. The back wall of the building shows off the new wall art placed on the roof section of the building: a giant propeller from a ship of some kind. I also am going to use the "Great" and "West" printed parts for the sign out on the front of the building where the "Anton's bait shop" 4 x 2 tile originally was. The back wall still opens in two sections, but the inside is a rough estimate. Some parts I already have from my previous depot model from almost 1 1/2 years ago, such as the safe, radio and various maps. Also, the two freight loading doors actually open and shut quite nicely. The model comes apart into four sections, with the main roof, tower, tower roof, and main building + dock all separating from each other. The crane was totally copied from my previous depot model, which itself was duplicated and color-changed from the dark green / white one in the Toys Story 3 set I mentioned earlier. That's all I've got so far with the building (which is coming soon in real bricks)... any thoughts or ideas for this model? As usual, Comments, Questions, & Complaints are always welcome. Stay tuned for real life pictures that might be coming in October. If you want the LDD file, it is here.
  13. Thanks @SylvainLS, I didn't know that!
  14. Can someone do the Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310) in LDD, please? I would like to swap out the inside and sand green parts to build it in real life in another color.... but don't want to waste money on buying the set only to scrap a bunch of parts I don't need. Thanks in advance!
  15. @Hart New Bob Those are from set 7597: Western Train Chase from Toy Story 3, released in 2010. See the parts inventory on Bricklink here. That set has been a goldmine of model ideas, mostly for my Western-style steam trains. Thanks, I knew it was useful for some vehicle other than trains!
  16. real life pictures were just added... any thoughts on this model?
  17. That is just the Ghostbusters mould from the GB HQ recolored and printed different. (pic from BrickLink)
  18. The first thing about that program is that you don't talk about it, ever!
  19. Real life pictures updated, and text changed to reflect new info. Here we see my sig-fig next to tone of the updated bridge piers. Comments, questions and complaints are always welcome!
  20. LDD file and pictures updated as of now with a newer model. Compare this... ...to this! Comments still welcome!
  21. Thanks Digger of bricks! I think you might like this next project, as seen here: My most recent digital Adventurers / Technic ship model is sitting at the dock, being loaded with cargo for the next epic journey to places unknown. ...meanwhile, a small submarine with a rather Sinister occupant secretly watches the unfolding action very closely....
  22. Are those stickers or prints on the mini Lego boxes?
  23. NOTE to the MOD: First off, I am sorry if this is in the wrong place. I wasn't sure where to place it, as it is a model using both System and Technic parts / techniques. Please move this as you see fit, if you need to move it at all. I just finished turning an elongated and enlarged version of set 42064 (Ocean Explorer) into a Adventurers style tramp steamship I call the Great West. The lift-away roof and bridge sections come off easily for access to the inside, and all the cargo is removable / interchangeable. Here is the original model, set number 42064, Ocean Explorer. I stripped the deck clean of all play features and attached models to give me a good foundation for my modifications. I also got rid of the helicopter and submarine. This ship is missing a few parts such as one of this for the bow in red, and two of each of these parts for the ships name, the Great West. The ship's name plates are located on the front of the bridge and the rear of the ship. I made the ship a whole section taller and longer to make it more proportional at mini-figure scale. The ship also feature wheels on the bottom for rolling along the floor / table / whatever. The two inside sections are mostly empty, but the captain's quarters goes on the lower deck, and the command bridge on the higher level. I'm not sure what to put in the lower section, but the upper section is mostly done except for the missing chart table. Any thoughts? Technic-heads, Ship-builders and Adventuresome fellows please chime in, as I am seeking feedback on this model. The LDD file is available here. Comments, Questions & Complaints are always welcome!
  24. Thanks, I guess the Galactic Enforcer was a subliminal influence that I didn't notice until now... thanks for point that out. I am also glad you like the deep space ships, as that sleek look was the aesthetic I was aiming for! Note: I just updated the building to be a lot smaller (and cheaper!) than the previous base with walls... Any thoughts on that or Benny's new 1961 Corvette?
  25. Ever since the Attack on Octan Tower, Benny has been looking for a way to beef up his command spaceship, the Cosmic Explorer (LL929). Then he hit upon an idea: removing the fold-up sensor array and replace it with a rotating and elevating four-gun turret. he also removed the original angular windscreen and replaced it with larger one so you can walk from the engineering compartment to the navigation section. Benny then set about working on his design, and plans on implementing it as soon as possible. This is just the latest in a series of modifications, including a enlarged secondary cabin underneath what used to be Astrokitty's seat, and removing of the wing-tip fighters. (Updated real life pictures of this model coming soon, as the ship is being updated to include the new parts and features, including a new trans-yellow canopy!)
