  1. Johnny Thunder was first released in 1998. He was the star of four Adventurers themes from 1998-2003. He also appeared in LEGO Studios and Jurassic Park lll sets as well as several video games during this period. That was the last we heard of him until a brief appearance in 2010's LEGO Universe video game. Then, in 2014, Johnny made a dramatic cameo appearance in The LEGO Movie. This appearance led to the inclusion of a Johnny Thunder minifigure in set 70815 Super Secret Police Dropship. This was significant because LEGO created a whole new torso (part #973pb1724c01) and head (part #3626cpa3) for Johnny Thunder As of this posting that is the only set in which these new parts have been. Johnny also appeared in the 2015 Scooby Doo 75900 Mummy Museum Mystery on a sticker. Could this be the beginning of a Johnny Thunder comeback? Would LEGO create a new torso and head for just one set? Your comments are appreciated.
  2. It possibly would come as no surprise that my childhood favourite LEGO theme was Adventurers. Some of my fondest playtime memories are of sprawling bedroom wide Adventurer Expeditions that ranged from the archeologically accurate dig site to a cartoon caper of chasing down the baddies while being chased by the Mummy or jungle tribesmen. The focal figures (literally!) were always Johnny Thunder and Pippin Reed. Johnny Thunder was part of the Theme Logo, he has appeared in eight LEGO video games. This chap was cornerstone enough to feature in The LEGO Movie and have a re-issue in the Super Secret Dropship set. So why don’t we get to know about our be-hatted hero. A Man of Many Names Back in the long ago days of the 90s there were not quite so many linked multi-media goodies for LEGO themes as there are these days. There were some small features in the LEGO Club magazine, the advert-comics that featured in kids magazines and sometimes the odd TV advertisement were all we really had. These might give you a few titbits to broaden the world presented on any bonus pages in the instruction manual or the little sheet that presented the other avaliable sets. Of course, many times you only learned the character names by purchasing the set they came in. With each language and market location there could be differences between the promotional material because no one had any communication or a single platform to access. This led to curiosities like multiple identities for the same character. Johnny also went by Sam Grant or Joe Freeman in other parts of the world. I was introduced to Sam Grant from the back of a cereal box promoting their giveaway (only six tokens and the p&p!) that included our intrepid hero and his desert car the Scorpion Tracker. Despite alll the names he still had his moustache, sideburns and the dimpled chin of a hero! Many Adventures Johnny Thunder and the Adventurers theme appeared in 1998 to 2000 with a revival in 2003. In this time the Adventurers, heroes and villains, travelled to many lands. The tomb filled deserts of Egypt where an undead Pharaoh lurched. Up the Amazon river with jewel thieves and lost tribes guarded gold. To a mystery island that time forgot with dinosaurs to protect from poachers and finally the Orient on the trail of Marco Polo's treasures. Johnny Thunder also gained his first acting credits in LEGO Studios, tumbling through a booby-trapped tomb and being chased by less friendly dinosaurs. Well Stocked Wardrobe As Johnny Thunder had plenty of adventures in a number of places quite sensibly he had a well stocked wardrobe to go with his trademark hat. While the well known tan shirt served well in the desert, the jungle and tracking dinosaurs there were varients for each of the locales of the Orient he ventured to. Classic, India and Tibet outfits. The tan shirt followed the same outfit archetype of the serial-film heroes Indiana Jones was drawn from and the later variations fitted in to the different locations visited in Orient Expidition. The reissue figure for The LEGO Movie follows the classic look with sharper printing, details on the back and the new colours LEGO brought in after Adventurers were no longer in production. This figure is a really nice inclusion on the part of both the Movie team and TLG, a little 'classic' nod to all of us AFOLs and something for my peer group to notice even if they aren't super LEGO fans. Media Man Just like any other superstar, Johnny Thunder appeared in many media ventures, from a simple 'easter egg' to a feature character in games and of course The LEGO Movie. A number of LEGO video games were released during the Adventurer's heyday and plenty of them featured the characters and theme locations to play through. The LEGOLAND game had Adventure Land attractions and features to unlock as you progressed with cutscenes too. http://youtu.be/diHcA6wtyC4 The next game to feature Johnny was LEGO Racers as an opponent to race with a number of circuits based on the Adventurers theme. In LEGO Island 2 Johnny and co help Pepper Roni in his mission to collect Constructopedia pages on Adventure Island. In Racers 2 Johnny was once again an opponent in races and also an NPC interaction for mini-games and returned again as an NPC racer in LEGO Stunt Rally. In LEGO Soccer you had to face off against an Adventurer Expidition team made up of characters from the theme and once defeated Johnny became an optional player for your own soccer team. This was a time in LEGO history where a lot of video games were made so of course Johnny would feature often. He was a major LEGO character at the time after all! Once Adventurers ended and slowly left recent and target market memory and game development moved out-of-house to developers like Travellers Tales, Johnny Thunder and co didn't feature. However with the launch of LEGO Universe he was back as a member of the Venture League. While the character was intended to be the same Johnny Thunder from the Adventurer theme, he underwent many design tweaks, even appearing in a rather different guise during Beta Testing. Fan feedback (of which I was most certainly a part!) managed to return him to a more classic look as seen above, the only minor changes in accessories and 'printing'. In LEGO Universe the player had to complete missions for Johnny in order to receive Venture League approval and open that faction as a choice to join. Master Builder Of course, now we come to his latest major role. A Master Builder in The LEGO Movie! First spotted early on in a call-back to Indiana Jones, he rescues his hat just before slipping through the perimeter walls to escape the forces of Lord Business. He is present for Emmet's, ah, stirring speech and is seen fleeing the golf ball once again reminscent of Indy. Later, as the citizens of Bricksburg fight the micromanagers Johnny is noticeable riding a horse that is riding a bigger horse. Thus we can conclude that I really am a bit weird and look out for a minor character when watching the movie! I'd love to post some clips but there aren't any to be found online that feature Johnny but if you missed him before we all know that no one needs an excuse to watch the film again! So, Johnny Thunder was and is a pretty cool character and while his moment in the sun might be over and Adventurers was continued in a new guise we can surely look forward to his next heir in whatever form he or she takes.
  3. While busy with another LEGO project, I felt the need to build a Adventurers MOC One of my favorite theme's. This MOC is based on the Adventurers Egypt theme of 1998. Johnny Thunder has found a secret tomb in the dangerous desert of Egypt. Maybe this tomb should hide a treasure....... Pictures: 01_Secret_Desert_Tomb by Mathijs Bongers, on Flickr 02_Secret_Desert_Tomb by Mathijs Bongers, on Flickr Tomb I hope you like it.
  4. Fictional background: Built in 1917 for Throwing Star Freight Lines as an ocean going tramp steam ship, the Morrow II was constructed in a far off land not shown on any Earth globe or map. The ship is commanded by Captain Karloff and has been used by Lord Sam Sinister at various times in many schemes involving stolen artifacts and lost treasures. Secretly however, Captain Karloff is working with Johnny Thunder to compile a file on Sam's activities to give to the proper authorities at some point in the future. However, Karloff must be careful – those who dare cross Lord Sam Sinister are few – and those who survive betraying him are even less in numbers! Real background: I built this ship from two Adventurers sets: I used the boat from set 5975 (T-Rex Transport) and modified slightly to resemble set 5976 (River Expedition). The ship features a boiler, steering wheel and a bigger smoke-stack. I have also added a complete bridge with removable roof instead of the open topped one on my previous version of the ship. Also, this ship is meant to have a Ninjago connection in as such that Karloff from set 70756 (Dojo Showdown) became a sea captain and commands this ship in journeys from Ninjago across the Endless Ocean, through the Sea of Time and into Johnny Thunder's world of the early 1900's and back. The name of the company he runs under is called "Throwing Star" after the ninja weapon and the many White / Red / Yellow Star ocean-going companies of the 1900's, such as White Star Lines, of RMS Titanic fame. Here you can see inside the bridge, featuring a large steering wheel. The rear of the ship is not very detailed. As a side note: The ship can hold Sam Sinister's car in the front section. Alternatively, it could hold random freight / crates. After competing in the Tournament of Elements, Karloff, Master of Metal, left Ninjago and became a ship captain for the Throwing Star Freight Lines. He makes runs of Master Chen's noodles to the world of Johnny Thunder, where the fast food-style noodle house is a massive hit. To travel across time and space to early 20th century Earth from Ninjago, Captain Karloff travels from his base at New Ninjago City to Chen's Island, where he picks up noodles, sauce, fortune cookies, and other foodstuffs. He then travels past Astor City to AnitMatter's former hideout, where a large portal transports his ship (the Morrow II) across The Ocean of Space & the Sea of Time to a stretch of ocean in between Bermuda and the coast of Florida. He then sails to various ports of call on both sides of the Atlantic ocean before heading back to the Bermuda Triangle and on to his home base at the New Ninjago City docks. NOTE: Captain Karloff should be wearing this suit and pants with the hat shown above: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=wc010 This ship is next on the to-buy list, just before Johnny Thunder's office and way ahead of Sinister Manor. 6. Before we begin this topic, here are some notes: -some of these builds have LDD files, most do not. -Most of these models should probably go in the Town forum, but they were built for Johnny's time period, so here they are. -I personally think that Johnny Thunder was mentioned to be set from about 1920 to 1924. Jake Raines from Pharoph's Quest was from 1922 (that is officially when it was, as stated by LEGO), so in my version Jake is a former student of Kilroy at the University where the good doctor taught until his untimely death in early 1925. (after Orient Expedition ended) Johnny & Jake met at the Kilroy's funeral, and eventually went adventuring along with Major Quentin Steele, who happens to be Lords Sam Sinister's old commander in World War 1. (Major Steele is from Monster Fighters, set around 1921.) With these points in mind, let's join Johnny and his friends in a never ending battle against the Sinister forces of evil... In the early 1920's, inquisitive minds and hardy souls, both good and evil, scour the corners of the Earth looking for lost civilizations and vast treasures. Some search for their own personal gain, or limitless power, others search for knowledge in a quest to preserve the past for the future. Good or evil they are known as... THE ADVENTURERS From left to right: THE BAD GUYS Senor Palomar Old friend of the Sinister family. He runs a vast South American artifact smuggling ring, as Sam Sinister's second in command. Alexis Sinister Sister of Lord Sam Sinister, evil, loves traps and weapons, secretly wants to turn Johnny Thunder evil. Lord Sam Sinister Arch enemy of Johnny Thunder, thief of lost treasures and great fortunes, plus is a mastermind of evil THE GOOD GUYS Johnny Thunder Australian explorer with a all- around can-do attitude. Always looking forward towards the future, but an eye on preserving the past. Miss Pippin Reed Former journalist, expert pilot, and a great friend to all in need. Jake Raines Hotheaded former pupil of Johnny Thunder's late friend, Dr. Charles Kilroy. Student of almost all sciences, but a firm believer in the supernatural. Major Quentin Steele English army officer turned monster hunter, tracker extraordinaire, and is a crack shot with any gun. 7. Inspired by the building in set 6484, (Batmobile and the Two-Face Chase) this building features two floors and a "cast iron" facade. Fictional Background: Built as an office building in 1898, Johnny Thunder bought it in 1918 after returning from serving in World War I. He then turned it into his personal office. The top floor was renovated into a storage / trophy room, while the bottom floor holds actual office with a table, desk + chairs, hat rack and three filing cabinets full of important contact information, treasure leads, and reports of strange occurrences, along with the occasional Vegemite Sand-which. Currently, the objects inside the trophy room include a Sword made in India out of ivory, a ancient Roman Shield from Italy, a golden Ring of Power from a land far away, a silver glove of an Aztec suit of armor, the Spear of Destiny from Jerusalem, a Trident from Atlantis, and a scythe from the Land of the Dead. The rear of the building is hinged to the front (like in set 31026, Bike Shop & Cafe) and locks together with a Technic pin. The roof top deocrations were inspired by fellow EB user, Kristel, with the instructions provided on her blog: http://modularsbykristel.com/ The real life Treasure Raider, which happens to be included in the updated LDD file, plus it's own digital file. LDD file (building and car): http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1423430126m.lxf LDD file (car only): http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1404178315m.lxf Comments, questions and complaints welcome!
  8. This model is used as a base of operations for Johnny Thunder and his allies. It features a crane to unload cargo, (Please note: The crane is missing this string: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?P=x77ac50 ) a speed boat for ferrying passenger & cargo to the Island Hopper Sea plane, and a hut with radio equipment and a map plus a windmill. This main part of this model was inspired by set 60068, Crooks Hideout (City) along with the crane from set 7596, Trash Compacter (Toy Story 3), speedboat from set 7197, Venice Canal Chase (Indiana Jones: Last Crusade) and the Tramp Steamer from 5975, T-Rex Transport (Adventurers: Dino Island) Just Imagine this scene... Mike is in the crane helping load cargo onto the steamer from the dock. The speedboat is being tied up on the other side of the dock by Major Quinton Steele, as he just go back from the trading post. The windmill creeks in the wind as the Harry Cane huddles inside the shack, waiting for Pippin Reed to arrive in the Island Hopper with Johnny & Jake Raines inside. This is a closer look at the speed boat. It can seat two figures, one steering, and one behind the driver. This ship is an enlarged version of the one I have shown in an earlier thread. Here is the LDD file for the above scene: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1420751456m.lxf This scene is supposed to have this sea plane included, but I figured it was a pretty big file to begin with, so here is a link to the file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1417798403m.lxf There are more topics by me about the adventurers, and here are their links: Main topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92994 The Sinister Family mansion: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102623 Johnny Thunder's office: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102621 Island Hopper Seaplane: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=103120 Comments, Questions, & complaints are always welcome!
  9. Mike and Dr. Lightning can oversee the whole site using this observation helicopter, not only giving invaluable views but unearthing hidden treasures too! Archaeology from the sky has been gleaning amazing results for decades, so of course the Adventurers team need to have a helicopter. I broke one of my rules I half set myself when I started the Adventurer Refresh. I did want to keep things within the timescale I set, the interbellum years and the fashions, styles and technology of the time. However a helicopter was too much to resist. So, in my Adventurer universe, technology is a little more advanced so they can have a helicopter like this um, twenty years too early... I'm going to plead Rule of Cool to this. Mike completed his studies and is now one of Dr Lightning's grad students. Still happy to fly or drive anywhere he is working on a doctorate of his own with field study and adventure in between the sensible research stages. Mike was one of the more annoying characters in my games. Maybe because my little brother insisted on playing with that minifig, maybe it was the stupid little slingshot. Anyway, this figure remains in the spirit of the original, but a little more mature. I worked with the waistcoat, but thought jeans worked well for the outfit. The long hair in place of the messy fringe printed on the old face and this older face print with a similar expression as the old. Still searching for any new discoverie to be made, Dr Lightning isn't ready to retire just yet. With the help of his younger friends he is out and about to observe evidence and formulate new theories. This is a simple update of the figure, I thought the smarter suit and the grey hat worked well for the elder character. It is the detective torso, it looks a little bit 'field work' and a little bit 'lecturing'. Just what Doctor Lightning needs. Anyway, with this post the last of the major Good Guy characters from Adventurer's that I owned and have a fondness for are posted! I'll be making a little central post with a timeline and canon at some point. There are some more MOCs to post for good guys from Pharaoh's Quest and bad guys from Adventurers, then some of my own creation.
  10. This classic 90's LEGO-styled model was originally built in 2007 by a Brickshelf user named "Widdi". That user uploaded the instructions (seen here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=249223 ) which I stumbled upon and built / modified in Lego Digital Designer. I put another story on top for the tower, set furniture inside, added a back half, and worked a garage into the structure. The Sinister Mansion: Where you will never want to leave! Fictional Background for the house: Built in 1910, Sinister Manor is one of the last surviving houses in the Edwardian Style of architecture in Ironwood county. It was built by Lord Gregory Sinister for his family, and features one addition not usually seen on Edwardian houses: a automobile garage. The house was left to Gregory's family, (his son Sam Sinister & his sister Alexis Sinister) upon the elder Sinister's death of a stroke in 1913. Sam Sinister went on to serve in the British army in World War I, losing his left hand in the conflict and replacing it with a iron hook. When he returned from the conflict Sam set about continuing his fathers tradition: collecting treasure precious artifacts, through legal and illegal means. The collection was stored in the Attic of the sinister Mansion until it became too large and was moved to a more secure (and secret) location. The inside features the furniture from my Haunted House (10228) MOD, including (but not limited to): a Queen size bed, stove, table, phonograph, sidetable with lamp plus the couch. The first floor I has the living / dining rooms, as the couch, stove and table and other associated items are there. The second floor features the master bedroom with a small balcony on the right side. The third floor is the attic, which is empty. The tower / roof (fourth floor) is also empty. The Rear of the house. This model is significantly cheaper / less parts intensive than my other Victorian Mansion (the one based off the Monster Fighter's "Haunted House") This car, the Ogel Mark III, goes in the garage. Here are the cars statistics: Model Name: Ogel MK III Configuration: two seat Engine Class: V8 Designer: Lord Ogel Build Date: 1925 Builder: Ogel Motor Car Works Current Owner: Lord Sam Sinister Length: 21 studs Width: 6 studs Height: 5 bricks Top Speed: 88 MPH Fictional background for the car: After the Orient Expedition of 1924, Lord Sam Sinister's Island Racer was seized by Soviet (Russian) forces when Sinister tried bribing his way onto the Trans-Siberian express without the proper papers. Sinister was put on the next train out of Russia without the car. In early 1925 he boarded the Simplon-Orient Express bound for Paris from Istanbul. While in Paris he telephoned the Ogel Motor Car Corporation asking for a newer, faster and more expensive car to be sent to his home at Sinister Manor in three weeks. Sinister arrived at his Edwardian-style manor to find this car waiting for him. It features two seats, a spare tire, a much longer wheelbase and goes 13 miles per hour faster than his old car. LDD file for the house & car: http://www.mocpages....1416516743m.lxf Comments, questions and complaints welcome!
  11. I have posted my good guys (with a few exceptions who will turn up in the future) now on to what makes or breaks any story: the bad guys! As a note, these are rebuilds of characters I owned as a child or knew of from the little scraps of story and set pictures in the catalogues. There might be some missing and I will get to those if there is any special request, because the villains of a childhood game leave a bigger impression than something you come across as an adult. As I said in the Good Guys post I have been using the nice new parts, colours and prints to rejuvinate the older characters. These were all posted with MOCs in the A&A forum but here I will post some more of the process information. Each character will link to the original figure or the version I drew ideas from if there was more than one. So, onto the baddies! First and foremost we have the infamous Baron Von Baron. Now, Baron is the name I came across when I had my first figure from the Bi-plane set. In later Adventurers sub themes he was sometimes called Lord Sinister, which was confusing because that was already a character that had appeared! I decided on the look quite easily, the head is an original and a dark bley pith helmet adds a certain menace to the ensemble. Epaulettes in brown becuase all the old white ones are facing dire sun damage and gold looked too OTT. Dressed in smart but high class suit. Baron is a man of wealth and taste, hence the gold hook. The torso is Lucius Malfoy's, but I can't recall which set exactly that came from. Because the Baron has a duelling scar he must be good with a blade, so the new fencing foil replaced the less refined pistol. Sam Sinister (aka "Evil Eyes" aka "Slyboots") always seemed to be a bit of a gangster to me. A bit of a chancer who deals in grey to black market goods, so all the names figured in fine, they were aliases he used to keep the heat off! The hat and head were iconic so I had to use them, there isn't a face print yet that can come close to the right look. The torso is from the Gangster CMF, a tidy suit for a legitimatre businessman is a must after all. The gun is a bit anachronistic, though it looked good on the figure. In my games he was a little inspired by Batman the Animated series' Joker. So always one to carry an unconventional weapon. Alexis Sinister, sister of Sam (from what the official Minifigure and LEGO Book says) was a figure I wanted really badly. Alas she only featured in Dino Island and only in the larger sets, so was beyond my reach. Attempts at creating the figure led to a classy cat burglar kind of character which I attempted to create here. The haircut is one suited to the era I personally set the adventures and the head first appeared in Agents (this head is Clawdette from this combo...) and works as a replacement to the older print. I like the pupils and expressive eyebrows. The torso is Wild West Wyldestyle and was perfect, from the skull choker to the presented figure. She's just as able to slip in to some fancy party and make of with a prized artwork as she is to slip unseen into a tomb or museum for relic theft. The legs are from Space Police, carrying on with the skull theme. Again, the Lone Ranger gun (I just have so many, they are great!) finished off the deadly look. Rudo Villano (or Max to some.) was the jungle bad guy I had. Unfortunately, everything from the head down face terrible wear and print loss. The old hat was the same as Johnny Thunder's but that meant it was a good guy hat! This black fedora replaced it suitably. The face print is my best choice to match. There is the stubble, the angry expression and the scars were just what I needed. It is from the CMF barbarian figure. Next the torso, the old dark grey shirt from the original lent itself to a scruffier look. One again the CMFs came up trumps, the Biker torso paired well with the gunbelt printed legs to make a bad guy jewel runner from the jungle. A machine gun both worked for the character and the MOC. This is a major major change to the actual Adventurers theme. Senor Palomar was the original character. I was unimpressed I'm afraid to say. Thus, Senor E. Palomar took his place. He is a gent, a land or ranch owner. The sort of unexpected bad guy any adventurer might come across; a genial host who takes in the explorer to his fine estate so they might sleep under a roof (and access plumbing) for a night, then the adventurer finds themself shouting "IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!" At him as he sails away downriver with a craftily thieved artifact a number of days later. The hat is Lone Ranger's, white as a nod to the original minifig and to the sort of character I had created. The head is from the Space Hero CMF, a print that looked far too smug. The suit is from an old LEGO Movies horro subtheme and a wonderful Lone Ranger gun. These are the figures I have made so far. If you have comments, requests, questions or critique post away!

    MOC: Rat Runner

The Rat Runner is a pacey little car that can be loaded onto any number of larger vehicles for easy transport across longer distances. After all, in the criminal activity trade a man needs to move from place to faraway place very often. I suppose it is because the sets I owned with Sam Sinister always had a small car, I put him as a small car kind of guy. Another of my Adventurer revisits, this one is a mixture of the number of little cars Sam Sinister drove. Sam Sinister was always a sharp dresser, so the "violinist" suit and top hat were the choice for this figure.I gave him a chunkier gun as I always imagined him of an almost Joker like figure with some very odd weapons.
  13. Rudo Villano set out with something a little more robust to take on the rough waters of the river. He wants that extra edge to get to the gold and jewels and grab the choicest loot. With a mount for his machine gun, rivals should think twice to try and cross him. This is another MOC from my Adventurer's refresh that is a new take on an old set. The Jungle subtheme set River Raft was one of the few Jungle sets I was able to pick up as a child. I built this boat as a raft seemed a trifle flimsy all told. This Rudo is a brand new build. The old face print was too faded, so I tried to keep with similar looks and expression. The new hat is still black, but not the old style, it struck me as better suited. I stayed with the rough-cut look, though there was nothing exactly like his original torso I thought this one fitted the bill. Printed legs and a new gun make this guy a little more threatening too. Comments etc appreciated.
  14. Hello! I have been refreshing the old Adventurers figures with new parts, colours and prints. So far I have been keeping things posted with MOCs, but a lot of people who might enjoy seeing the figures don't really browse the A&A forum so I thought to post them here with more of the "process" information. This post will be for the 'Good Guy' characters. The figures that feature are re-builds of the figures I had as a child, so there may be some characters missing from the line-up, though I like to think that the main players are all present! Every name is a link to a picture of the first figure issued. First up we have Johnny Thunder himself. The hat is, of course, the design from Lone Ranger but in the reddish brown shade, I picked that up in a LEGO Movie set. I had hoped to use the re-released classic hat in reddish brown but the dropship set is rather expensive. This hat is a nice medium between the Indiana Jones fedora and Johnny's hat. I was fortunate to have the newer version of the head print with the white pupils becuase I really wanted to leave his face as it was in the original theme, while I had no qualms about using new faces for other characters, Johnny is just too cool to change too much. The torso is from Pharaoh's Quest, it was Jake Raine's but I thought he looked better in the tan shirt so Johnny got the gear. The legs are Indiana Jones prints, the gunbelt is a nod to the classic print on the original Johnny Thunder torso and also, seeing as you can take it that Johnny Thunder is either a nod to Doctor Jones or the source material that birthed them both, it felt right. Plus I just love the dark tan colour. Finally there is the Lone Ranger pistol, the more detailed tooling of the gun is visually pleasing in comparison to the older pistols so I used a lot of them within my Adventurers refresh. Next there is Pippin Reed, ace reporter! Again, the delightful dark tan colour make an appearance, the pith helmet is unchanged from the original mould but this one looks smarter than the white one. I chose this face print, a newer printing of the first Pippin Reed (see the pupils) because the version I had was from the Egypt sub-theme. The other Pippin Reed print is much too 'bulky' if you get my meaning, for the longest time I thought that Gale Storm and Pippin Reed were two different characters when I finally cme across names. Full disclosure: In my games and adventures, only Johnny Thunder had the 'correct' name. My lady adventurer was always called Lara... Next up is the torso, this was from the Collectable Minifigures Series 2 Explorer. The red ascot is similar to the scarf that the original torso print had while the strapped on water bottle is like the printed camera. I loved the explorer figure parts so using this torso was a given. The dark red legs are a replacement for the regular red from the actual figure, again, the dark shades look a lot smarter than the brilliant basic shades. I suppsose that muted colours are more appealing to me. The camera is a must, I never had one when I was younger but this one is bulky enough to work within the setting Adventurer's have so I happily used it. Here we have Harry Cane. The reddish brown aviator helmet and dark bley goggles look sharper than the old brown and black, I wanted the goggles to match with the harness printed on the torso. The face has is new too, Harry Cane never had a re-issue with pupils printed in so I chose another. This cleaner cut but still rascally looking face was first used in Knights Kingdom 3 for one of the named knights but quickly became a generic for Castle, Viking, Pirate and even Football minifigs. I thought it looked good for a more respectable Harry Cane, less stubble and more beard. The epaulettes are old brown but are minimal enough a detail that it doesn't look too bad (I hope) the torso is from the Naboo Starfighter pilots, I loved the whole look, but then the original suits that inspired them are from the era I set Adventurers. I was fortunate enough to pick up number of the torso from the online PaB to make a little crew of fighter pilots. The legs are plain until I can find just the perfect looking printed ones, though the pilots were mostly unencumbered in the leg area. Doctor Charles Lightning, or, as I named him Doctor Carter (I was a bit of an odd child, I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was six...). A dark bley pith helmet looks better to my eyes than the white, I really am not the biggest fan of bright colour in this setting. I had to use the old head, nothing was good enough to replace it, maybe some time in the future a face print will be perfect, but the classic look is so much better. I think the glasses hide the issue anyway. The torso is from the series 5 Collectable Minifigures Detective. I wanted a torso that was fit for the lecture hall or the dig site! Though I do miss the bow tie from the original (bow ties are cool) nothing in the newer colours and sharper printing of current LEGO worked to my eye. Again, if something comes up which will look better I might change it. Finally we have Mike. Mike is the biggest change of all the figures. I really wasn't overly fond of the character in the first place. The freckles didn't look right, the fringe was messy but he had a pretty blank look. Maybe too was the fact that my younger brother insisted on playing as 'him' when he played along and that was never fun for me! This Mike is slightly aged up (the slingshot from the original figure always put me in mind of a kid). The longer hair is a nod to the fringe and the head is one of the varied but still 'generic' City face prints. I thought it made him look like he had a bit more wits about him. The torso print is from Monster Fighters and refrences the waistcoat he had originally while looking more grown-up. Jeans from the CMF series 8 DJ. Jeans were around at the right time and would be fine for a dig (they still are today!). With this minifig I thought; just how would someone dress if they admired an Adventure Archaeologist? This was not hard at all. Well, I hope you liked this fig barf and information overload! Questions, Criticisms and Comments welcome!

    MOC: Phantom Cat

The Phantom Cat is a custom car that some ill gotten gains purchased for Ms Sinister. It can outpace her brother's jalopy, so that little sibling rivalry is solved. Racing against the Baron is an extra thrill, never mind the goodie-twoshoes out there. Whether escaping the scene of a "unpermitted, permenant loan" or getting away quickly from a dig site, the Phantom Cat has you covered. Not a refresh of an original LEGO set really, I just love building cars out of LEGO. This little number was based in part on some experiments when building the Island Raider and in on the Sato-Mobiles that turn up in Legend of Korra (which I have been watching) because Adventurers and LoK draw stylistically from the same era. Alexis is on the hunt for relics and riches with a new look now she's not chasing down dinosaurs. Clawdette's head print was a good replacement for the old print, Wild West Wyldestyle's torso looks suitably fatal and Space Police 3 printed legs finish the outfit off. The Lone Ranger gun finishes you off! Another of my no original parts figures. I never had the minifigure and since the style change meant the little pupil detail I like, well, I had to use a different head anyway. This figure came together because I just had to build a bad gal! I wanted something that looks along the lines of a cat-burglar without outright using the Catwoman torso. Oh, and despite the glaring errors in certain places to remain nameless, she is Alexis Sinister. Not Sanister (sounds like a company that covers the refreshment of those oh-so-delicate disposal apparatus that reside in public conveniences). She is Sam Sinister's sister. It is in one of the LEGO books if you care to look it up.
  16. The Hop Rod is a speedy ride, sometimes it isn't about the archeological process and research, it's about getting to the site first! Mac's hot rod Hop Rod can hop to it and stake a claim for Professer Hale and Jake. Just another little car build, I love fiddling around to make cars in the Adventurers/PQ style. After deciding on the hood ornament I couldnt' resist the punny name! My refreshed Mac McCloud. Equipped with a newer gun design and a smarter outfit. He looked little too thuggish in the vest provided in the original figure so I swapped the cyborg arm for a regular arm on Jack McHammer's torso to smarten him up a little. In my personal canon, Jake and company are tracking through Egypt when Johnny and his crew are in the Jungle. Hence why there are more mummies around and less (living) human rivals. The summer before a bunch of tomb raiders and relic hunters woke them all up!
  17. Sen. Palomar's boat is lovely for smuggling artifacts along the river. Mister Pit has a good eye for navigation and the cargo will fetch a good price for no-questions-asked collectors. McClucksy is good luck too, or a helpful distraction to anything chompy that gets on the boat... Another Adventurer boat, again not a straight refurbished set but something in the spirit of the theme. I used the cruiser hull, not my favourite sort of thing to work with but the parts needed to perfectly brickbuild a hull weren't about for me to build with. The cargo crane spins and the winder moves the hook up and down. Senor Ekaitz Palomar took over the family business from his brother after the elder took to smuggling things slightly more noticeably illegal than jewels and artifacts. He's a sharp dressed man with a taste for fine gemstones and rare artifacts. I used a suit from the LEGO Movie theme for a dapper look, Lone Ranger Hat and gun to refresh the older elements of the original Senor Palomar and the Space Hero head, which always looked a little too smug for my tastes so it fits perfectly on this 'gentleman'. The sort of unexpected bad guy any adventurer might come across; a genial host who takes in the explorer to his fine estate so they might sleep under a roof of a night, then the adventurer finds themself shouting "IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!" At him as he sails away downriver with a craftily thieved artifact a number of days later. Mister Pit is a thug for hire who happens to know a little about river navigation and steering a boat. There is plenty of gold out in that jungle and he's happy to take some off the boss's hands for a simple river trip. Generic thug really. I made him as a back-up to any number of more talented villains. The schemer always needs someone who treads heavily and carries something smashy. And stabby in this case too.
  18. Harry Cane has a new plane to test and fly. The Goodbury group's newest offering: The Goshawk. The Goodbury Factors build all kinds of vehicles. I patterned this after the early fighter planes, both in style and colourscheme. It wasn't based on any specific old set this time, simply a new plane for my refreshed figure to pilot. The new Harry Cane has a cleaner cut than the old figure, mainly because I think he looks a lot smarter with a tidy beard than with a whole lot of stubble. My personal story for him was RAF officer, so he had to look a little neater! The Naboo Pilot torso has been a favourite of mine, both 'recent' designs look great. Though their source look was taken from the eras of history that had such style! There are only a few Adventurer of my refreshed characters who I have used a whole new face for. There are 'story' reasons, there are quality issues with the old heads or I didn't have the figure in the first place. Other times it is simply the fact I like the 'new' white pupils printed in. All of these factors meant Harry Cane got a new head!
  19. Kitted out for a full expedition in any environment the Scorpion Venturer is an upgraded version of the Scorpion Tracker. With a more powerful engine and a longer wheelbase you can adventure with ease! So, the Scorpion Tracker was one of the first Adventurer sets I ever came across though I was only able to get the car that came in the Sphinx set. When I came to building a new version I decided to combine the two to create this much expanded car. The re-visioned Adventurer theme came about after I was messing about with minifigs and decided to use my newer fig parts to update old characters. Between the wealth of new parts, designs, sharper printing and great new colours I had all my favourite characters rebuilt. So: Figure details time! Johnny Thunder was the best character of the late 90s early 2000s. I have a lot more to say about him later . So he was fun to update indeed! I wanted to use a new brown hat and sadly the actual signature chapeau only comes in that colour in the rather expensive Super Secret Dropship set. So I had to substitute in a new design. I think it suits him and we'll just say that he lost his old one in an incident involving alligators... The torso is my favourite from Pharaoh's Quest. I thought Jake Raines looked better in his tan shirt and bandolier so I co-opted this one for Johnny. The Indiana Jones legs are a given, they look just right on a character who pays more than a little homage to the great man! The angle makes this awkward but he is equipped with one of the pistols from Lone Ranger. I like the gunmetal grey and the slightly more accurate design. Pippin Reed is kitted out in an outfit similar to her first appearance in the Egyptian subtheme. I wanted to stay true to the figure I loved to play with but with newer parts. I thought the adventurer/explorer torso looked perfect, the red bandanna a match for the scarf and the canteen a great replacement for the printed camera now that she has one to hold. The dark tan pith helmet looked nice and a change from white and I love dark red and my original figure had regular red legs so that was a switch I wanted to make.
  20. My update of the original Adventurers continues with the Island Raider, a souped up version of the Island Racer in more menacing colours and sleeker design. I love the new engine parts that arrived in the last few years, not to mention the curved elements and darker colours. I didn't have the orignal Island Racer, instead having to make my own to play with after spying it when my brother's friend loaned him LEGO Racers. I had a handful of parts to have a stab at a half decent replica. Of course I had to make a new one when I came to equip my updated Baron! I was influnced by the original set but also a number of era specific automobiles and stylings. The colour choice was a given, dark red is such a wonderful one to work with despite some of the batch issues and black/dark bley combines well. I used a Prince of Persia weapon as the ornament to fit in to the general brutal themeing of the car. My updated Baron Von Baron uses the gold hook (he's a man of wealth and taste after all) brown epaulettes (mostly because my white ones are discoloured!) and the grey pith helmet to upgrade the old look from his last appearance in Orient Expedition. Lucius Malfoy's torso is smart and fits the bill. Also seeing as he has a dueling scar then a fencing blade is the weapon for him. More builds and figures to come!
  21. Every adventurer needs a good and reliable car for every occasion. Gelert is one such faithful friend. The old boy has gotten his girls out of all kinds of trouble (and helped them get there too!). Fully equipped with everything they could need while out in the wilds hunting for history altering finds and treasures of the ages. Hypatia is navigating the way with her map, glad that Eleri knows how to handle the world outside of the Adventurer's Institute archives and library. (More on these two at a later date).

  24. Hey guys, I was digging around a box full of souvenirs from LEGOLAND Billund and came across this half-used sticker sheet... As you can see it has some interesting prints such as UFO heads from 1998, Adventurers and Alpha Team heads from 2001, etc... Anyone know what set it came in? Here's the pic Thanks! legozebra
  25. Hi! I'm a KFOL & this is my first post on this site. I just wanted to show off my first Lego Adventurers MOC called... SCORPION TOWER. (I only just realised I stole that name from PQ's Scorpion Pyramid. I made a video about it & it's on youtube. You can watch it here: I hope you all enjoy it as it is my first proper MOC I have made & please leave any improvements I could make to it in the comments.
