Murdoch17 posted a topic in LEGO Action and Adventure ThemesAdventurers Resupply Depot (v2) I took the "Old Fishing Store" Ideas set number 21310 and turned back the clock on it from a rundown fishing shop in the modern era to a modular 1920's supply depot for Johnny Thunder and his friends, also known as the Adventurers. I added a set 7596-style freight Crane that's a part of "Trash Compacter Escape" (a Toy Story 3 set). I revised the color scheme of the mainly dark bluish gray building instead of the original sand green, and removed a ton of the mixed bunch of colors that were used a "patch jobs" on the dock and building proper. I removed the roof and redid it completely to be brick-built with slopes instead of plates and tiles at an certain angle. I also stripped the many windows styles off and replaced them with a single type. I added a warehouse section to the lower floor by sending one of the walls about 16 studs back, allowing for storage space for various equipment not yet designed. The back wall of the building shows off the new wall art placed on the roof section of the building: a giant propeller from a ship of some kind. The large billboard is double-sided, and says "LEGO" on both sides. It gives the dock a gritty, downtown, waterfront industrial feel, at least to me. The back wall still opens in two sections, but the inside is a rough estimate. Some parts I already have from my previous depot model from almost 1 1/2 years ago, such as the safe, radio and various maps. Also, the two freight loading doors actually open and shut quite nicely. The model comes apart into four sections, with the main roof, tower, tower roof, and main building + dock all separating from each other. The crane was totally copied from my previous depot model, which itself was duplicated and color-changed from the dark green / white one in the Toys Story 3 set I mentioned earlier. Original depot design is in the SPOILER tag: Steam tramp freighter EASTERN This steam ship has been everywhere, from the Dino Island fiasco, to the shores of the Far East, to the mouth of Amazon River. The Eastern is run by Captain Karloff and his first officer / mechanic, Mac McCloud, with help from their four-legged mascot Madame Blue. I have redone the front end of my tramp steamer to be longer and have a sharper profile, plus it now has a inverted-slope windscreen. The ship's roof and upper deck are removable as always, and I have added an anchor to the front of the ship. The vessel's name, the EASTERN,is printed on 1 x 1 tiles on the side of the bow near the anchor. The rear of the ship features the company flag and the smokestack. Here you can see inside the ship's bridge (upper deck) and captain's quarters. (lower level) Steam tugboat GULF STREAM The ship is mostly used for ferrying supplies to and from the Island Hopper seaplane and by helping the tramp steam-ship Eastern into it's dock, but is capable of trips to the mainland in an emergency. I was inspired by my tramp steamer "Eastern" to make a tugboat to help tow the freighter into port. This rather small coastal vessel features a removable roof to get to the controls, and red / green directional lights. The rear of the ship features the smoke stack for the coal powered engine. The inside of the cabin features, a smoke stack, a smaller steering wheel and fine-tuned motor controls. Seaplane ISLAND HOPPER This model was originally set 31064, (Seaplane Adventures), a 2017 official Lego set from the CREATOR line, with some of the ideas from set 5935 (Island Hopper) from the 2000 ADVENTURERS line thrown in for good measure. I also added an updated figure of the pilot (Ms. Pippin Reed) plus a printed map tile. This twin-engine model is a seaplane, which means it can only land on water. No wheels would make for a very rough landing on dry ground! The model has two opening hatches (one for the pilot and one for loading cargo) and removable roof section for access to the cargo compartment. I got the printed 2 x 4 tiles on the rear of the plane from the 2010 Toy Story 3 line set "Western Train Chase". Auto-Gyro LIGHTNING ROD In reality, this model was modified from set 70913 (Scarecrow Fearful Face-off) from the LEGO Batman Movie line. I added the classic two seat Adventurers cockpit piece which is usually used on land vehicles, plus a new set of vintage 2003 landing skids. This model also comes with red and green navigation lights and two independent propeller blades. The good guys: The team from left to right: -Johnny Thunder Australian adventurer extraordinaire and friend to all those in need. Thunder first met Sam Sinister in 1917 when Sinister was in a field hospital for his hand amputation and Johnny was recovering from slight case of shell shock. They have been against each other ever since then. -Jake Raines This young lad is a American student of Dr. Chalres Kilroy's and expert at 5 spoken languages and 3 more written. Also has a knack for defeating ancient booby traps and disarming modern explosives. Although he looks quite happy, Jake is quite a different person in private: he blames himself for Kilroy's end, as he was with Dr. Kilroy when he died. He was showing his star pupil a mysterious scroll that can separate a mind from it's body when he passed. Jake is convinced that Kilroy succeeded in doing so, and thus his body "died" but his mind may have lived on. -Major Quentin Steele Former British Army officer (and Sinister's former commander, whom Sinister still hates today) This Monster Fighter lost his eye in 1912 due to a fight with a certain Werewolf, whom he later tracked down and defeated. He has signed on to Johnny Thunder's team to fill in for the deceased Dr. Charles Kilroy after his unfortunate accident. -Miss Pippin Reed This former lead reporter for Adventurer Times was reporting on a Dr. Kilroy's 1920 discovery of a copy of the Book of the Dead when she met Johnny Thunder at a dig site near Cairo, Egypt. They have all been good friends ever since. Also, Ms. Reed happens to be an better aviator than Johnny, a fact which she takes great pride in. She also operates the Island Hopper seaplane on most expeditions. -Captain Karloff Owner and operator of the "Eastern" tramp steam ship, this captain has an eye for spotting the historical value in something that looks worthless. He always has a bag of cool items he's collected on beaches, sea-side markets, and ports around the globe on his person or nearby on his ship. -Mac McCloud -Mac may be slightly clumsy, but is a genius when it comes to things of a mechanical nature. He keeps things working for the Adventurers team, such as lowering the steam pressure in the old and worn boilers on the tramp steamer "Eastern" and knocking loose engine parts back into place on the sea plane "Island Hopper". -Madame Blue This dog is the unofficial mascot for the Adventurers team. The forces of evil Characters from right to left: - Lord Sam Sinister Brother of Alexis Sinister, and Lord of Sinister Manor. Sam lost his left hand in World War I while in the British Army. He later replaced it with a polished steel hook which is as cold as his heart. - Alexis Sinister The sister of Lord Sam Sinister is completely evil and slightly unhinged while being crack shot with any weapon. She hates Johnny Thunder to an extreme extent after he refused to join Sinister in his diabolical schemes. Last seen on Dino Island escaping to places unknown while the island was sinking. - Senor Palomar This South American crime lord is an associate of the Sinister family. He helped Sinister try and get the Sun Disk from the Amazon jungle, before losing it to Achoo, the ancient guardian of the disk. After that adventure, Palomar has fallen out of favor with Lord Sam Sinister, but he hopes to be in his good graces again soon. -Mister Graves A mysterious man of whom little is known. He sometimes is a ally of Lord Sinister and company, although are also enemies at times too. He is always seen with a gold lapel pin in the shape of a badge and a little black book of which he is almost constantly writing in. What is he writing? None have dared ask. The national military of the Country of OGEL These smiling faces hide a sad fact: these are the brainwashed soldiers of the very powerful leader of the evil land of Ogel: High Lord Vladimir Ogel. He runs the country with an iron will, and his fearsome armed forces move in frighteningly fast ways for the 1920's. Even their commander (by himself on the right) knows nothing of what he is doing: he is just a cog in a ever quickening machine, hell bent on heading the world to Doomsday. EDIT 11/6/16: The revised Island Hopper seaplane's real life pictures have been added to the first post! EDIT 12/14/17: Revised and upgraded resupply depot uploaded to main post! Murdoch17 posted a topic in LEGO Town(This may apply to the Action & Adventure theme forum, but since it's just a bunch of vehicles I put it here. Sorry if this topic needs to be moved!) Tramp Steamer I built this ship from two Adventurers sets: I used the boat from set 5975 (T-Rex Transport) and modified slightly to resemble set 5976 (River Expedition). The ship features a boiler, steering wheel and a bigger smoke-stack. I have also added a complete bridge with removable roof instead of the open topped one on my previous version of the ship. The top floor of the ship is the bridge - this area contains a nautical telegraph (to control speed) and the wheel (to control direction)... and yes, there is a piece out of place. I fixed it after taking this photo. The lower floor features the boiler room. It is empty right now, but could be re-purposed into a captain's cabin. Island Hopper seaplane This is a seaplane based off 2008 Indiana Jones set 7628 (Peril In Peru), along with inspiration from 2000 Adventurers set 5935 (Island Hopper) thrown in for good measure. This part goes on both sides of the tail: http://alpha.brickli...=87079pb006#T=C The plane now has a interior that seats five people: 1 pilot and four passengers. Treasure Chaser - Johnny Thunder's ride This model was inspired by sets 7622, Race for the Stolen Treasure, and 5918, Scorpion Tracker. Ford Model AA truck This one was heavily inspired by set 10222, Winter Village Post Office. I originally built it from the pictures before instructions came out. 1922 MOON Automobile This car was originally a Rolls Royce Phantom MKII first designed by Carl Greatrix that got transformed into a MOON Touring car. (no, the the jalopy from the Apollo Moon missions, but the car company from St. Louis MO!) once I realized how close they were to each other in style cues. I guess I did the usual car building process backwards: build the car, then find a real life counterpart, instead of building the car off a specific type. Roaring 20's Gangster Sedan This model was modified from set 7682, Shanghai Chase. Perfect for smuggling illegal alcohol or setting up a drive by for friendly meeting with the rival gangs. Gasoline tanker truck Built from set 7683, Fight on the Flying Wing and modified to have a radiator grille and a better fuel tank. Island Racer mark II I modified my copy of set 5920 to have a longer wheelbase and a spare wheel. I also modernized the engine area with special attention paid to the grille. Lord Sam Sinister's personal vehicle This model was inspired by the recent announcement of the Super Man "Action Comics Number 1" exclusive San Diego Comic Con 2015 LEGO set, which I then extended and improved into the model seen here. This part goes on the rear license plate spot: http://www.bricklink....asp?P=3069bpa1 and as a bonus here is my favorite picture: A Sinister Encounter In case you wonder what is so sinister about the picture, the name of the person who owns the house is Lord Sam Sinister, an evil man who hates the owner of the plane: Johnny Thunder and his friend and aviatrix of the seaplane, Pippin Reed.
Murdoch17 posted a topic in LEGO Action and Adventure ThemesFictional background: Built in 1917 for Throwing Star Freight Lines as an ocean going tramp steam ship, the Morrow II was constructed in a far off land not shown on any Earth globe or map. The ship is commanded by Captain Karloff and has been used by Lord Sam Sinister at various times in many schemes involving stolen artifacts and lost treasures. Secretly however, Captain Karloff is working with Johnny Thunder to compile a file on Sam's activities to give to the proper authorities at some point in the future. However, Karloff must be careful – those who dare cross Lord Sam Sinister are few – and those who survive betraying him are even less in numbers! Real background: I built this ship from two Adventurers sets: I used the boat from set 5975 (T-Rex Transport) and modified slightly to resemble set 5976 (River Expedition). The ship features a boiler, steering wheel and a bigger smoke-stack. I have also added a complete bridge with removable roof instead of the open topped one on my previous version of the ship. Also, this ship is meant to have a Ninjago connection in as such that Karloff from set 70756 (Dojo Showdown) became a sea captain and commands this ship in journeys from Ninjago across the Endless Ocean, through the Sea of Time and into Johnny Thunder's world of the early 1900's and back. The name of the company he runs under is called "Throwing Star" after the ninja weapon and the many White / Red / Yellow Star ocean-going companies of the 1900's, such as White Star Lines, of RMS Titanic fame. Here you can see inside the bridge, featuring a large steering wheel. The rear of the ship is not very detailed. As a side note: The ship can hold Sam Sinister's car in the front section. Alternatively, it could hold random freight / crates. After competing in the Tournament of Elements, Karloff, Master of Metal, left Ninjago and became a ship captain for the Throwing Star Freight Lines. He makes runs of Master Chen's noodles to the world of Johnny Thunder, where the fast food-style noodle house is a massive hit. To travel across time and space to early 20th century Earth from Ninjago, Captain Karloff travels from his base at New Ninjago City to Chen's Island, where he picks up noodles, sauce, fortune cookies, and other foodstuffs. He then travels past Astor City to AnitMatter's former hideout, where a large portal transports his ship (the Morrow II) across The Ocean of Space & the Sea of Time to a stretch of ocean in between Bermuda and the coast of Florida. He then sails to various ports of call on both sides of the Atlantic ocean before heading back to the Bermuda Triangle and on to his home base at the New Ninjago City docks. NOTE: Captain Karloff should be wearing this suit and pants with the hat shown above: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?M=wc010 This ship is next on the to-buy list, just before Johnny Thunder's office and way ahead of Sinister Manor. Murdoch17 posted a topic in LEGO Action and Adventure ThemesThis model is used as a base of operations for Johnny Thunder and his allies. It features a crane to unload cargo, (Please note: The crane is missing this string: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?P=x77ac50 ) a speed boat for ferrying passenger & cargo to the Island Hopper Sea plane, and a hut with radio equipment and a map plus a windmill. This main part of this model was inspired by set 60068, Crooks Hideout (City) along with the crane from set 7596, Trash Compacter (Toy Story 3), speedboat from set 7197, Venice Canal Chase (Indiana Jones: Last Crusade) and the Tramp Steamer from 5975, T-Rex Transport (Adventurers: Dino Island) Just Imagine this scene... Mike is in the crane helping load cargo onto the steamer from the dock. The speedboat is being tied up on the other side of the dock by Major Quinton Steele, as he just go back from the trading post. The windmill creeks in the wind as the Harry Cane huddles inside the shack, waiting for Pippin Reed to arrive in the Island Hopper with Johnny & Jake Raines inside. This is a closer look at the speed boat. It can seat two figures, one steering, and one behind the driver. This ship is an enlarged version of the one I have shown in an earlier thread. Here is the LDD file for the above scene: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1420751456m.lxf This scene is supposed to have this sea plane included, but I figured it was a pretty big file to begin with, so here is a link to the file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1417798403m.lxf There are more topics by me about the adventurers, and here are their links: Main topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=92994 The Sinister Family mansion: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102623 Johnny Thunder's office: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102621 Island Hopper Seaplane: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=103120 Comments, Questions, & complaints are always welcome!
