  1. Ahoy, mateys! This is my entry for Challenge II A. Shields and Daggers The race for New Terra is heating up. More and more land is being claimed every day. Fortune seekers from everywhere are heading out looking for riches, and settlers follow. But most newly established settlements are very short lived, perrishing as quickly as they were set up, either due to a lack of supplies – or defensive capacity. Everyone knows the terrifying stories of the very first settlement attempts of the Mardians and Eslandolans, everyone knows the consequences of neglected protection. New Terra isn't quite the paradise it looks like. So in his infinite wisdom His Majesty the King of Oleon has decided that all colonizing efforts undertaken by the loyal subjects of the realm will be determined, but cautious ones: The claim we lay to the land will stretch no further than the reach of our swords. So as we claim the Île de Zeus for our glorious Empire, His Majesty has dispatched additional King's Guards to the island. Their task is not only to crew the forts that are being set up along with new settlements, but also to establish a multitude of smaller gun batteries along the shores, shielding the Île in all directions. These defensive positions surely aren't enough to repel a fully-flegded invasion, but they are certainly capable of dealing with smugglers, pirates and other predators. And when push really comes to shove, 'La Royale' will always fly Oleon's colors on the waves. Small patrol boats might not be seen as mighty swords, but handled with determination and skill, a dagger can do serious damage, too. about: As always, everything except for the vessel's sails can be build. The water is a delicate matter, consisting of many rows of 1x2 plates linked by 1x1 round plates wherever possible. This is my first ever attempt at rockwork, and it only caused me to despair and curse a high two digit number of times... Not sure if it's to the liking of the experts among you. Sorry for the back of that cliff looking so dull, but all I managed to come up with in order to 'close' it were slopes. Oh, and the boat's curvature is done with hinge bricks, all held in place by a multitude of flex tubes and clips, most of them well hidden below the deck. I hope you enjoy, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  2. After the failed attack at Eltina, Oleander colonial leaders decided it was to their best interest if Eltina had some enhanced fortifications. Alas, with Eltina built on rather flat grounds with not much wood around (since most of the nearest small forests were cut down in order to establish sugar plantations), earthen fortifications were the most suitable solution. Below, our Oleon finest, enjoy themselves building them. And of course, given the significance of the fortifications in our proud military history, nothing less than a Field General was needed to supervise the whole task.
  3. Most foreigners think of Oleon's temples as dark, mysterious places built for solemn ceremonies and ancient rituals. Nothing could be further from the truth. Almost every joyous occasion in an Oleander's life, from birth to coming of age and marriage is celebrated within these sacred halls. Even minor successes, such as a recovery from illness or safe arrival following a long voyage brings Oleanders to temples, which makes the temples more than just a place of worship. They are a focal point in many cities, places where friends and acquaintances meet, either by appointment or chance. As such, Captain Anthony Genaro was not overly surprised when, while walking through the courtyard of Breshaun's main temple, he heard a voice cry out "Captain, Captain Genaro!" Turning, Genaro saw what most landsmen would call a landshark, a fellow who preys on the ignorant sailor, but to Genaro he was simply Mister Harold Kimber, a bright entrepreneur with a mining method that could extract silver seemingly out of thin air. "Give you joy on a successful voyage" exclaimed Harold Kimber, "and give you even greater joy on your mine." "Thank you Mr. Kimber," replied Genaro "but what is this about the mine? I thought I departed without signing all the necessary papers?" Kimber looked startled "did you not get my message, no, of course not, the hurricane must have blown the mail ships off course. No, well, what I wrote in the letter is that your friend, Captain Leon, put up your portion of the investment. He was thoroughly convinced that you'll pay him back, and when he heard the we struck silver, he insisted that we not forget you." At this, Genaro gave a hearty laugh and silently reminded himself to buy a good brandy, Leon's favorite drink. After a moment of silent reflection on his new found luck, Genaro turned to Kimber and asked "and how much have you extracted so far?" At this, Kimber became uneasy. "All the equipment, the tunnels, and the buildings are in place, but we can't actually sell the ore just yet. You see, we've had some trouble obtaining a license, someone in the administration is convinced I'm a thieving rake, a landshark even, while Captain Leon would hardly do, given the incident between him and the assistant governor in Breshaun." Of course, thought Genaro to himself, smiling as he remembered the event. "But we were hoping a man of your influence could succeed in getting the license in no time." "Certainly," cried Genaro "there isn't a moment to loose, I'll go to the offices directly and demand the license, after all, we have paid for it, and I'll be darned if some blasted civilian, some administrator is going to stand between me and my fortune!" 4. "20th of Anthesterion, The year of 616AE of our holy gods Dear Magdalene, I miss you so much but I can't imagine wishing you were here, with me, in this harsh environment. The blistering sun alone would have made your pale skin look terrible. Here in the New World time passes by quickly, as we constantly have to organize not only our King's men, military and civil servants, but also all those ignorant but pompous private merchants that seek to make a fortune out of these islands. Especially difficult is the task of communication between our colonies that are under constant threat from our neighboring nations, those red vultures in particular. Last week I had to stay away from my usual seat at Breshaun and was stationed at one of our lesser colonies, Eltina, in Le Bellan island. Eltina is mainly an agricultural "support" colony as we call it these days, with ample of sugar plantations that produce the much needed sugar canes for our rum, the so called spice of the eastern hemisphere. Due to the nature of this colony, we don't have many men stationed there as more and more men are needed to our ever growing Breshaun both to maintain order and safeguard those self righteous nobles that seems to flock the New World islands these days. Peace maintenance and guard duties in Eltina fall only to a handful of men, a company of (mostly) elder soldiers that are close to their end of military service. This company is based on a newly erected building that acts as barracks (as totally opposed to the barracks building I described you back in Breshaun) and as a semaphore station. What is semaphore you might ask? Well this is a fairly new invention from our genius scientist, Depillon that made our lives easier. No more messenger pigeons for us. They couldn't work here as there is too much heat and there are way too many vultures flying over our heads. So, semaphore is basically a very high mast with two moving planks on its sides that can be turned around. That way we can signal messages back to Breshaun in a matter of minutes. Two operators are enough for this towering masterpiece to work efficiently. And what an invaluable asset it proved! Three days ago, our vile neighbors, those Corrish scum, that roam the sea east of Le Bellan and secretly smuggle sugar canes from Eltina, had some plan. They knew that Eltina was poorly guarded and decided to raid the colony! Why pay for sugar canes when you can get them for free is what they obviously thought and they had right. I would have done the same to them any time! Anyway, just in the nick of time, one of our troops stationed at the semaphore station's upper floor, saw four sails bearing Corrish military flags, coming at great speed towards Eltina. Thankfully, the experienced operators of the semaphore relayed the message fast to Breshaun and the governor immediately sent a battalion horse riding as fast as they could to help us. Upon reaching Eltina, fortunately in time, they were deployed on the shore bearing our flags and ready to fight. When those coward Corrish saw that we were ready for them and that they had lost the element of surprise, they turned their ships and fled. And that's exactly how Eltina was saved... Faithfully yours, Hugo D' Offren" The short version? Corries came to Eltina, saw, never conquered This building is a true army-in-being! 6. After a timely message saved him from falling prey to a land shark, Captain Anthony Genaro found himself in the best circumstance he could ever have hoped for. A brief stop at the Port Admiral's office resulted in Genaro receiving a letter that stated, among other things, that he was "to be appointed as Captain of His Most Righteous Majesty's Ship, the Pride of Poseidon" and to make all haste in preparing her for sea. Seeing as several other ships had recently been paid off, Genaro fairly had his pick of seamen, and before long, he had filled all the watches with barley a landsman between them. Though one of the smaller ships in the Oleander fleet, she is well armed. Six eight-pounders along her sides, along with two swivel guns in the bows, marines, and a well-trained crew make the Pride of Poseidon a match for almost any foe foolish enough to challenge Oleon Overview Pride of Poseidon by Capt. It was definitely a learning process for me, and I'm sure that my next vessel will come out even better. And advice as to how I can improve the rigging (except ratlines, which I intentionally left out) is appreciated. Comments and criticism are welcome.

    [OL - FB6] The 'Zephyr'

Hi mateys, long time no sea see, ok, I promise this is my last ship this month. It's also my sixth FB this month, so if you like her, I'd much appreciate your approval Now, since it's still winter, please prepare for the lamest pun this season: Let there be... Snow! The 'Zephyr' is a trading vessel like many to be found sailing the seas crewed and commanded by proud Oleanders. She is in her best years and far travelled, having sovereignly mastered the challenging conditions of the Merlonic Sea as well as those of the Great Northern Ocean. Although not the fastest, she is nonetheless a versatile vessel, spacy and reliable. All of these attributes make her famous especially among merchants from Oleon's northern provinces, such as Bothnia, who foremost need save transportation of the huge amounts of agricultural goods growing in these fertile lands. The 'Zephyr' is named after the God of the Western Winds, the gentlest wind, worshipped as the messenger of spring. It's a wisely chosen, fitting name, as she, too, brings fertility and growth along to her ports of destination. Now her new home is the Sea of Storms. May the 'Zephyr' also master these waters and bring prosperity to wherever she drops anchor. Here, again, next to the ever-so-puny IFS Last, but not least, the God of the Western Winds himself, well, as a figure head about: Now, the 'Zephyr' might not be a fast ship, but her construction sure had to be speed boat ship build, as I only had yesterday and today to build her from scratch. Ok, after more than 15h of construction time I copied most of the sails from another ship, as making new ones would have cost me another day I think. Also, sorry if there's not a lot of details around, I would have added more crew members, but time was of the essence. Anyway, with this ship I was going for a rather plain looking workhorse. Nothing fancy, not very fast, simply a cargo ship that looks reliable, one that will get 'things done'. I tried to go with as little tumblehome as I could stand, a dull prow and no sleek hull. Might not sound like a difficult undertaking. But building her wasn't 'gentle' at all, rather one of those builds where no angle worked out right, I constantly had to adjust, and the paintjob was a huge pain. Well, now she's finished, and I'm growing quite fond of the design. Not my best work, but also not bad. Thanks for enduring my dreadful vessels this month! C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!

    [OL - FB5] 'La Recouvrance'

Ahoy once more, laddies! True to my credo 'A ship a day keeps the Corry away' I am honored to present to you the pride of the Oleander trading fleet, the Class 5F schooner 'La Recouvrance'. Also, this is my fifth FB this month (my fingers are bleeding), so should you like her, I'd appreciate your approval This latest ship in Oleon's Merchant Navy was build in the 'Royal Shipyards' head facilities in Quilbignon, planned and supervised by Master Engineer Maurice chevalier de Col. To be even more precise, she was laid down and build in record speed in the larger of the two 'Pontaniou' basins on Quilbignon's western banks, and named after the quarter itself. Her proud name is the ultimate expression of the confidence Recouvrance's shipwrights put into their own abilities of crafting masterful vessels. May she live up to this promise and may she serve King and Nation to her full potential! With a hull length of 94 studs 'La Recouvrance' is not only Oleon's largest trading vessel, but her sleek hull, low center of gravity, and three gaff rigged masts also make her the fastest of all ships in the Sea of Storms. These attributes in combination with a crew composed of only the most dedicated and experienced sailors will hopefully favor the voyages that lie ahead. May there be many to come! Here's a comparison shot, you can see her putting the puny IFS to shame About this ship: I tried to make her paint scheme simmilar to that of the 'Revenant', kind of a 'corporate design' idea, which I might continue. So no fancy colors. I'm very pleased with her shape to be honest. It was a tough job designing her this low, since I had to manage hiding all the connections under deck, pretty hard considering the curvature. I'm especially fond of the way the stern turned out, along with the overhang (good you can build it without knowing the nautical term for it), which I tried for the first time. As always, she's buildable and would be stable enough, although she'd not be swooshable, 'cause of her size. The masts would be delicate, but - with internal flex tubes and proper (real) rigging - could be supported. Oh, and placing the water was more than a pain - but worth it. Thanks for watching. As always, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!

    [OL - FB2] Good Timing

Sharks can be just as dangerous by land as by sea, and, despite his luck at sea, Captain Anthony Genaro found himself in the company of one of the most vicious of all the land sharks. Promises of precious metals by the ton, possibly even gold, just sitting under their feet waiting to be unearthed had already convinced Genaro's friend, Captain Amadeus Leon, to invest a colossal sum into the project, and Genaro was seemingly about to fall prey as well. He may be able to smoke false colors almost instantly and without doubt he could tell when a ship was spilling its wind, but seemingly any landsman who used terms such as "annual yield" and "rate of return" could make a fool out of Genaro. And despite his prize agent's best fiscal advice, Genaro was willing to cancel his previous investment in a merchantman and put it all into the mining venture. Beginnings by Capt. Genaro, on Flickr Just as the land shark was about to hand Genaro a pen and some papers to sign (nothing major, just power of attorney, access to financial resources, etc.), a commotion got Geanro's attention. A wagon hauling barrels to the site blocked a messenger's horse, forcing the boy to dismount and walk the rest of the way. "Captain Anthony Genaro, sir," said the boy, wearing the uniform of the local guard. He held out a letter to Captain Genaro, simply stating that it was of the utmost importance that he read it directly. Very well, said Genaro and a brief glance showed that it was from the Port-Admiral. Terribly sorry for the delay, it said. Some clerk had bungled the whole affair as the Little Hermes was merely a temporary post until her true captain could report aboard. Genaro was to have a new sloop, the Pride of Poseidon directly and he must return with the messenger at once. "I have another horse waiting, sir, and may I be the first to congratulate you" said the messenger as soon as Genaro had finished reading. Beginnings by Capt. Genaro, on Flickr "Why, give you joy, old friend," cried Amadeus upon hearing the news. "Of course you must be off, no question about it. Besides the metal isn't going anywhere and you mustn't keep the admiral waiting." Through a forced smile, the land shark completely agreed with Amadeus and declared that Genaro must be off "but might he consider simply putting his name to these documents first, wouldn't take more than a moment." "Oh, no, no," cried Genaro "it would never do, and it would be most ungrateful of me to delay the admiral by a second. No, there is no great harm if the mine is delayed a few days." And Genaro followed the messenger back to the horses, smiling for Fortuna truly had blessed him today. Beginnings by Capt. Genaro, on Flickr __________________________________________________________________ As always, comments and criticism are welcome.
  10. Ahoy again, yet another ship has entered Oleon's Merchant Navy. It's my fourth FB this month, so feel free to approve, should you like her I'd like to present to you 'Amphitrite's Lily'. 'Amphitrite's Lily' must be the oldest ship still afloat in the Sea of Storms. A small cog, surely no beauty, a true relic in terms of a ship's life expectancy. Having been around since the Juniper War, in which she was used as a supply ship, she served Oleon greatly and was mustered out years ago, waiting to be broken up. Now, however, the Nation calls her once more! Every vessel is needed in the race for expansion. She is put at the command of one of Oleon's greatest sea dogs, a man - no - a legend almost as old as the 'Lily' herself. And he rules the deck with an iron fist. No doubt there is: the two relics will prevail again! About this ship. Believe it or not, this old bucket is buildable. This technique kind of 'happened', and I think it works out alright depicting (very) old ships. The structure at its base is formed by hinge plates, and the sides are held together with flex tubes. All is attached to the ship's central axis at multiple points, it'd be decently stable. Oh, and I hope I got the sail right this time Thanks for watching, C&C welcome Vive le Roi!

    [OL - FB3] The 'Revenant'

Ahoy mateys, may I present my first ship in these waters, the Class 2F cutter 'Revenant'. This is also my third FB this month, so if you like it, please approve The 'Revenant' is a fine example of Oleon's new 'Piranha'-class cutter, introduced by the 'Royal Shipyards' of Breshaun. It's the first time an entire class of ships was not planned in the motherland, showing the growing importance of both the island of Le Bellan and Breshaun's 'Royal Shipyards' branch. Designed for speed and manouverability this new class of vessels is considered a great fit for the tricky waters around Le Bellan with their shallows and strong, ever changing currents. Being regarded excellent crafts these ships fulfill their purpose as merchantmen as well as minor military vessels for both convoy duty and costal patrol. The 'Revenant' is commanded by Guillaume Lejeune, a skilled and experienced sailor and now entrepreneur, constantly busy shuffling goods in between the various ports of the New and Old World. He proudly flies the flag of the Oleander Merchant Navy, showing his devotion to the King and Oleon's cause. About this ship: I'm not a big fan of fancy colors, plus most specialized parts don't come in a broad variety of them, so the ship might look a bit dull. But as always all could be built in real bricks, just sails and rigging are placeholders, and the yards would require rigging to be held in place. The construction would be stabil, maybe even swooshable. The name was chosen hoping the ship will return from all the MCRAs to come. C&C welcome. Vive le Roi!
  12. Meet Olivier Thibaut. He is a farmer's boy, growing up in a remote, rural area of central Oleon. It's a quiet and beautiful place he calls his home, far away from all world's troubling affairs. But Olivier is 16 years of age, a young man, and although still a child at mind his dreams are big. He wants to be out there. He wants to see more of this world. However, Olivier is bound by his family's values and by regional traditions. 'Change' is not a favorite term of most. Yet ever since fantastic stories of new lands across the vast sea are spreading - along with rumors of all their promises, riches and adventures - all he can think of is travel - and new shores. What will the future hold for Olivier? Well, only time will tell. In fact... I will... but later Most of the freebuilds to follow will bare some connection to Olivier's story, be that by direct interaction, places visited or people met, although not from the beginning, since parts of his story are way older than the rules of BoBS, and now merging both 'worlds' will need a little time. Also, as you might guess, this is going to be an all digital approach to this venture. Rest assured however, that it is my personal challenge that everything could be build in real bricks unless stated otherwise. On that subject, in this build the tiny flag on the fort would not work, but could be replaced by a minifigure hand or whatnot. Oh, and here's a bird's view of that little scene. Thanks for watching, C&C welcome.

    [OL - FB1] A Small Shipyard

Hi guys, I'd like to present my first freebuild here, for the glorious Empire of Oleon. It's a small shipyard in the vicinity of the city of Breshaun. Small shipbuilding facilities such as this one have sprung up in the dozens all over Le Bellan to meet the demand for ships these days. Although being simple stations without the grandeur and vivacity of the large 'Royal Shipyards', they are a vital part of Oleon's plans for expansion in the new world. In fact they are part of the 'Royal Shipyards' system and fulfill a dual purpose. Firstly they relieve the larger facilities from both construction and maintenance of smaller vessels, freeing the hands and minds of the master shipwrights there, enabling them to focus on the planning and execution of more capital ships. But in addition, these small stations are being led by dedicated junior shipwrights single-handedly as part of a teaching program. Those that excell in the duties thrusted upon them are awarded the status of master shipwright, thus increasing the shipbuilding potential of the nation even with sparse resources. Here's some more: Hope you guys like it, C&C welcome. Vive le Roi!

    [OL - MCRA] Arrival

Cries of "bear a hand, now," watch your step, you lubber" along with some truly profane language filled the salty air as Captain Anthony Genaro made his way back to his captain's barge. He was returning from a surprisingly enjoyable appointment with the port admiral who had congratulated him on bringing the Little Hermes in without conflict. The naval chronicles were filled with a surprising number of ships lost or captured, and some had begun to worry. "Ha, but no I" the admiral had said. "Oh, I told them, you'll get your goods yet, just you wait and Genaro will be in before the new moon." And if the kind words were not enough, the freight money that naval captains were entitled to certainly made the trip enjoyable. Arrival by Capt. Genaro Arrival by Capt. Genaro __________________________________________________________________________________ I'm not too pleased with the way the fort in the background came out. Originally, I was hoping the tiles would look like stone, but I'm afraid it came out looking like concrete (perhaps too uniform). Other than that, I can't complain too much. As always, comments and criticism is welcome.
  15. Traditionally seen, 2016 starts in Belgium with Brick Tricks in Tielt. It is a rather small local exposition with a nice atmosphere. 5 years ago, it was the very first event Captain Greenhair participated. And to celebrate it, he came back this year! And he even took the very godfather of fregates, the tutorial and inspiration for most of us! So it turned out we would be both on the exposition, we agreed to make the very first BoBs collab in history!!! Too bad we soon discovered we both are Eslandolan... So Corrington and Oleon might be underrepresented... Anyway, enjoy!!! Btw, the weekend of 12 & 13th November, the biggest exposition of Belgium takes place, in Antwerp. For this year, we are going for a BOBS Pirate lay-out of 100 square meter!!! We really are going for the biggest pirate lay-out ever! So if you want to be part of this, feel free to send me a message :D :D A global picture I also made some promotion, so maybe we'll get some new members in the future :D Some extra pictures Enjoy! (btw, is this a freebuild of both CGH and me or not?)
  16. Expedition into the Mangrove This is my Challenge I category B entry. Gideon de Bothnia is leading an Oleander expedition to a newly discovered island, with a small detachment of marines sent by his brother Alexandre who is a high ranking officer in the Oleander fleet. In the great push for exploration, most people don't seem to mind if the national resources of the navy are "borrowed" by entrepreneurs who are trying to make personal gains from the exploration. After all, it's all for the glory of Oleon! Much of the shores of the new island is covered with thick mangrove, but finally they have found a gap in the mangrove where during the low tide they are able to land with one of the smaller ship’s boats. Now they can make their first footsteps on this virgin soil, but now the members of the expedition anxiously wonder if they are the first to land on this island or if someone has come here before them? More pictures: For those of you interested in how I shot this, here is another "behind the scenes" shot. This time I tried to play a bit with off camera lighting with my old Olympus FL-50R and a cheap umbrella setup I bought a while ago.
  17. Sebeus, Captain of the Beatrix, pride of the Oleon fleet, is relieved of said duty as his experience and tactical mind is more needed elsewhere. The new captain, Cédric Gerardi, fortunatly is quite the capable man as well, the Beatrix will be in good hands. Sebeus takes command over a much smaller vessel now, smaller but faster, flexibility is everything these days. But this small cutter really is only a means to get somewhere fast for now, there is a greater plan that will not be easely shared with third parties. A new adventure awaits... Cutters like these are being mass-produced on Lebellan, which is quite unique for these times. Original Idea was to launch a huge wave of vessels to cover as much ground as possible. However, the production start-up did take its time...
  18. Gideon Saulse de Bothnia has bought a small dwelling in Breshaun on LeBellan to serve as his initial base for his venture into New Terra. He is proudly displaying the crest of his family on the house, which however seems to be in need of some repairs. (OoC: This build started out as an attempt to build half-stud offset cracked whitewashed walls plus as a test of a dark orange-medium dark flesh roofing technique. I will license this as a small residence as soon as I get the hang of the EGS rules)
  19. After much pain and hurry, here is my answer to the Duel: Feast at "The Spin of Fate". Now a free-build by itself! Hugo wasn't eager to fight with Elysabeth Drondil as, due to his character, took it lightly as every other thing in his life. Or was arrogant enough and was sure he would win? So one day before the duel, he called his friends from the fleet for a drink, at "The Spin of Fate", where the drinks are cold and the girls are hot! The establishment took its name after the wheel (of fortune) that you can see right above the door that leads to the kitchen. That wheel belonged to the first owner of this place that came to the Sea of Storms with all his belongings on a cart. I had tons of fun making this build, which reminded me once more that i am a huge minifig and acessories lover and have the fig-fever. If you see some color deviations, it is because with this MOC, my brick stash is officially depleted with all this building the past month and all i have left is black and gray bricks Enjoy and sorry if you have an eye-sore after watching due to dim yellow lighting but couldn't wait till morning (job is killing me! hehehe) Thanks again! feast at The Spin of Fate by Spy Tha, on Flickr feast at The Spin of Fate foldout by Spy Tha, on Flickr feast at The Spin of Fate closeup by Spy Tha, on Flickr

    [OL - FB1] Orders

I meant to post this last month, but got caught up with work. I am particularly interested in criticism on the furniture, as that is something that I have never built a lot of in the past. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Captain Anthony Genaro" announced the steward. With his hat under his left arm, Captain Genaro paused and bowed towards the idol of Poseidon on the mantle before immediately turning towards the commandant's desk and the unknown gentleman, a scowl on his face, sitting behind it. "I'm afraid, sir, that I have not yet made your acquaintance," said Genaro, standing resolute. "Humph, and a small wonder, too. Shaggy, unshaven, and a wig that doesn't even properly cover the whole head" observed the stranger just loud enough for Genaro to hear. "I am Monsignor Befort de Granoleon, assistant to His Majesty's representative. Yes, I know you are meeting with Commandant Millet, but he is indisposed of, and as his assistant, I am taking all his appointments for the time being." The Admiralty Without offering a seat to Genaro, Befort rummaged through the papers that littered the desk, came up with a folded letter, and handed it to Genaro. Taking a sip of wine (which Befort had also declined to offer to Genaro), Genaro began to read the letter and was astonished by what he saw. "Surly there has been a mistake!" exclaimed Genaro. "It appears that I have been the Little Hermes, a mere merchantman." Looking up from his paperwork, Befort paused and stared at Genaro. "You are an officer in the King's fleet and a servant to the crown, and you shall do as he and his representatives command." "This command may be fitting of a lieutenant, but I am a proper post-captain and am entitled to," Genaro began to object. "You are entitled to nothing, Captain" interrupted Befort, "you may either take this command or you may deny it. It makes no difference to me, but do hasten with your decision as you are not the only appointment I have today." The Admiralty Minutes later, a furious Captain Genaro exited the Admiralty building, orders for the Little Hermes in hand. It may have been a blackguardly offer, but Genaro's heart longed for the sea (and the full pay that came with it), and you couldn't turn down a command without being blacklisted for years to come.
  21. Small Hermes was constructed at the fine shipyards of New Oleon and ordered to sail to Breshaun, Le Bellan, so as to assist trading there and further the interests of the great Oleander nation. Due to its experienced multinational crew, it can overcome nearly every difficulty thrown at her in the sea. The only slight drawback is the lack of armament as it is currently carrying only 4 swivel guns and one canon. Oleander citizens that don't have a ship yet, can licence this merchant ship as his/her first licenced ship for free for a month's duration, in order to test the MCRA model of the game. If no Oleander citizen is found to licence it, then any participant of BoBS can licence it again for free for a month's duration. 22. Before setting out on his travel to the colonies, Gideon Saulse de Bothnia does what every sensible Oleander should do before traveling the seas which is to seek the blessing of Poseidon over his enterprise. An offering of different kinds of food must surely please the Ruler of the Seas!
  23. It's time for grape harvesting at D'Offren vineyards, Breshaun, Le Bellan. Everybody is running up and down. Grape gathering, squeezing, tasting, putting into barrels and transferring them to a big shadowy cellar. Who needs rum when you got mother nature's sweet wine? P.S: Sorry for the lame photos (taken under really bad yellow lighting and cat continuously pulling the white tablecloth i am using), but i don't know if i have the time to build me any type of enterprise till the end of the month, and i wanted one licenced. If i find time till then, i will shoot the MOC again under sunlight (we do have plenty here in Greece when i am working ) Life in a vineyard by Spy Tha, on Flickr grape gathering by Spy Tha, on Flickr grape squeezing by Spy Tha, on Flickr fresh wine by Spy Tha, on Flickr olive tree by Spy Tha, on Flickr
  24. Native Outrigger Canoe This is my Challenge I category A entry. In the waters around the newly discovered islands there are already some smaller crafts sailing. One common type of vessel is the outrigger canoe, used by the natives for fishing and for travelling between the islands. A number of sightings of these craft have been reported by the early explorers of Oleon. So far the natives seems peaceful…

    [OL - FB1] The Quay

Dear Sir, You are hereby directed to attend upon His Majesty's representative Commandant Louis Millet this Sunday at ten after eleven.... With the letter stowed in his coat, Captain Anthony Genaro walked along the all too familiar quay. Being beached for the past months made his mood progressively gloomier, with nothing to do but collect his half-pay and watch more fortunate captains depart for lands unknown. But today Genaro bore no trace of the man who had been ashore the past few months, for (short of a court-martial) this letter could mean only one thing; Genaro had been assigned a ship. The thought of a ship, and the full-pay that accompanied a command, made Genaro a new man. And as he walked along the quay, he couldn't help but glancing over his shoulder at the vast expanse of ocean just beyond the harbor. The Waterfront by Capt.
