  1. Infernum

    Taming a Beast

For a Mitgardian Ranger, the taming of a dragon is a key coming-of-age and initiation ritual. The chosen dragon, who was assigned when the ranger was born, is starved for two weeks, then released into the wild. The ranger must then track and find the enraged dragon. The defining moment of the Dragon Trial is the actual taming of the beast. The Ranger must approach the dragon weaponless, and be judged by the dragon. If the dragon deems the ranger worthy, then the ranger has found a lifelong companion. If not... Well the dragon was REALLY hungry... Here Sir Infernum can be seen following in the footsteps of his brother, the head ranger, and taming a Snowvenom dragon. So this is a freebuild I made a while ago. Not much else too say! Thanks for looking!

He was told that Pjeter was waiting for him at the One Winged Angel a local pub. Wyndor walked in and sat down at the table. “Welcome home Wyndor” Pjeter said. “I trust your journey with Glorfindel was fruitful.” “It was,” Wyndor started, “I was able to get a feel for how the rest of Mitgardia is reacting to the current unrest in Historica. Things are not looking good for Mitgardia my friend. There is a lack of trust that is present across all of Mitgardia. The clansmen don’t trust the townsfolk. The townsfolk don’t trust the current leaders to make the right choices to keep them safe. The dwarves don’t trust the elves. And no one trusts anyone from another guild.” “Well, what do you recommend to help Dalig Ulv stay free from this cloud of mistrust?” Pjeter asked. “To begin with, we must find out who is behind all these attacks in our city. The people here will not be able to trust each other if they are always looking for a hidden dagger in their neighbors hand. We also need to foster more trust amongst the council members and city leaders” Wyndor said. “I see you’ve changed your tunic color,” Pjeter said. “Hopefully that will help Lief mistrust you less!” “Yes, Lief is a troublesome one right now. I fear that he does not share our same concerns for the city” answered Wyndor. “But more troublesome is this attack in the market I heard about.” “I trust Valanice has already given you a full account of the attack?” asked Pjeter. “Yes, and of the mysterious defendants” Wyndor answered. “I’ve since learned more about them” replied Pjeter. “It is confirmed that they were all members of the Blue Wolves. They continue to be present at every attack of the dwarves. But this time, either they arrived too late to kill the dwarf themselves, or they were after something different.” “Natolyth also told me that Edea was present” said Wyndor. “If she is here, then nothing is as simple as it seems.” Just then a messenger came up to Pjeter. “Sir, we’ve captured one of the Blue Wolves!” he said. Wyndor and Pjeter exchanged glances. “We might be about to get the answers we desire” said Pjeter. “Please, lead us to him.” OoC: And with that I finish all of the Phase II builds!

Ch. III Cat A. Men: Spying

Upon finding out the secret location of a cave the dwarves had hidden from the outside world, Edward von Graystar and Sir Gareth sent their best spies to infiltrate the cave and find out as much information as they can. In the darkest depth of the cave one such spy found a stockpile of weapons amassed for the war against the elves. This is the second part of a collab story with Sir Gareth and myself The goal was to show men spying on dwarves on a 16x16 base with minimal overhang. I'm quite proud of this build as this is the first time I've use snot rock work, but seeing as this is for a challenge I've decided to push myself to see what I can achieve All C&C welcome and all the best to everyone participating in the challenge!
  4. Keld sets out with his cart to sell his Clear-Thinkers' Ale, otherwise known as apple cider. It is said that Keld makes the best apple cider in all of Historica. Two patrolling Mitgardians stop for a drink, and Keld joins them in enjoying the fruits of his labors. Finding success with his sales, Keld begins to dream of bigger things for the future... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C&CC welcome! This is a similar design to the cart I used for my horse mill, incorporating fixes for the portions I was not satisfied with. Edit: Updated the first three photos with better photo editing.

    AoM: Tower Phase 3

Watch Towers can be found along the river Staal in Volhaal, to protect the main trading routes in and out of Graystar. They have stacks of wood on top which can be lit to warn the city of impending danger. Ground Floor and Basement 1st Floor/Captains Quarters 2nd Floor/Soldiers Quarters Beacon I've had the tower built for a long while, but decided that the rock work needed to be updated Hope this phase 3 is enough to pass, all C&C gladly welcome
  6. From the record of Stian Vitr's report to Erland Blar: In my earlier travels, I discovered an abandoned watchtower. This tower became a hideout for myself and my friend, your son, Tait. This morning, we rode out to the tower to enjoy our break before poleaxe training. We wanted to practice together before we were tested at the barracks by Master Einar. When we reached the tower, we noticed that someone had placed several barrels of arms inside, and it made us curious. I climbed to the top of the tower to inspect further, when we suddenly heard some one approaching. Seeing I had no time to get back down, I signaled to Tait to return with the horses. I quickly clamored on top of the thatched roof of the tower and burrowed into the straw to avoid being seen. I soon discovered who was approaching: a group of dwarves with more arms to add to their store. Hoping they would leave soon, I settled down to wait. Instead of leaving after depositing the arms, someone climbed to the top of the tower. I pushed my face through a hole in the thatching to be able to see what was going on. Four dwarves had come to the top of the tower. All four stood in a circle around the trapdoor, not speaking a word. Then, one in a green hat unrolled a scroll and began to read. "Due to the threat of an alliance between Drow and Elves, all dwarves from the Madren militia will commence attacking the Drow to prevent this alliance. In order to maintain secrecy, we will tunnel into Avalonia underground. We shall take the Drow by surprise and wipe them from Avalonia, thus preventing an attack on our homeland of Mitgardia." The three others cheered and began murmuring amongst each other. Though I was close, I could hear very little of what was said. With this news, I was anxious to report back so that something might be done to prevent this rash act of the dwarves. As soon as the dwarves left, I hurried down from the tower and ran back to Falkidalr. End of Report. Responsive action to commence. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C&CC quite welcome. I would appreciate it if a Moderator would let me know if the slight overhang is acceptable. Thanks for looking!
  7. Butcher Birger and his wife Selby use the smokehouse to preserve meat to store for winter. After cutting up the meat on the butcher's table, the meat is hung on hooks from the poles below the rafters. A fire is kindled below and kept burning with low flames in order to provide steady heat and smoke to dry out the meat and preserve it to provide meat throughout winter, when game is scarce. EDIT: Added image with replaced smoke:
  8. Somewhere, in a dwarven keep in midgardia.... Adummim: Gentlemen, thank you both for coming at such short notice. I have taken the liberty to arrange some refreshments, while we discuss the final plans. Rarroud: Excellent! I have been dying to taste that dwarven ale you talked about! Fimdoum: Some ale and food was an excellent idea sir! Adummim: Well, we should make our stay here as pleasant as possible i guess. But now on to buisness.... Adummim grabs a piece of folded up parchment from under his beard, and unfolds it onto the table... Adummim: This is the final plan for the coming assault on the drow. We will march in three days, under the cover of night. Rarroud and his regiment will pass the border of avalonia trough this mountain pass, and you Fimdoum, will take the path along this river with your troops. I will lead the third regiment trough the forrest into avalonia. There is a possibility the elves will spot our movement, so haste is key. Once the attack has started they will probably declare war on us anyway, but for now we need the element of supprise. Fimdoum: And what if the elves decide to attack us in the rear? Adummim: That is why the first strike has to be a supprise attack. The elves will never engage our troops without the concent of the elven council, that gives us time to hammer those drow, and regroup to counter any elven resistance. Rarroud: Hah, we will kill as many drow as we can, and take as much elven scum with them as well! Adummim puts the map away.... Adummim: Well, now everybody knows what needs to be done, it's time for a refreshment. Eat, drink, feast my friends! We march in 3 days! Upstairs in the attic, there is someone who should not be there.... John: The dwarves are going to war on the drow? I must inform Chorian right away! Once these dwarves are sufficiently drunk, i'll sneak away unnoticed. To be continued.... Well, i hope you like my entry for challenge 3! It was fun building something that wasn't nocturnus themed! C&C welcome! Extra pics: The total build.. Sans figs and furniture... And the rear to show i've stayed within the 16x16 area.
  9. I got tired of sorting and wanted to do something a little bit more exciting for a change, so I photographed the updated Falki Ridders. The Falki Ridders are the mounted guard of Erland Blar's village, Falkidalr, in Mitgardia. Erland Blar (Center) and his squires: Even Blar (Left, Erland’s nephew) and Tait Blar (Right, Erland’s youngest son) House Blar (Left to Right): Osmond (Erland’s loyal brother), Hagen (Erland’s oldest son), Fell (Erland’s nephew), and Bjarke (Erland’s middle son) House Blakkr: Einar (Right, Erland’s Champion) and Halvar (Left, Einar’s son) House Gulr: Rangvaldr (Right, Erland’s Advisor) and Ralph (Left, son of Rangvaldr) House Rjodr: Colborn (Right, Erland’s Hersir) and Manning (Left, Colborn’s son) House Vitr: Hammond (Left, Stian’s older brother) and Stian (Right) The weapon of choice of the warriors of Falkidalr is the poleaxe. It is versatile against unarmored and armored foes and doubles as a useful tool for everyday life in Mitgardia. The sharp blade is useful for cutting and chopping, while the hammer head is great for smashing. Each Ridder also carries a sword and lance at full armament. Each lance is mounted with flags: the top flag is either green or yellow to represent Mitgardia while the bottom flag represents the bearer's House. Erland's full banner includes both flags of Mitgardia atop his House flag.
  10. The main forces of the dwarf army prepare to advance into Avalonia. Meanwhile, scouting parties range through the borderlands in search of drow. Occasionally, they encounter remnants of the ancient dwarven civilization that once stretched across all the North and West of Historica. They pause to pay their respects to the dwarven kings of old, buried as they are beneath centuries worth of earth, stone, and memory. Figless:
  11. Farmer Maggot puts his horse to work. After the farmers cut the wheat and lay it in the wagon, the horse pulls the wagon to the mill. Here, Farmer Maggot threshes the wheat on the ground with his flail as his wife, Mme. Maggot, brings new wheat to thresh. Jaskin pours the wheat kernels onto the grind-stone and leads the horse around the grind-stone to roll the top stone over the wheat kernels to grind them into flour that will then be taken to the village bakery and used to make all sorts of delectable items to feed the people of Falkidalr. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C&C welcome. Inspiration came from the Dark Age mill in Age of Empires 2 (with added Norse influence). My favorite parts of this build, and the most tedious, are the two sections of the roof. The LotR seats from the Council of Elrond make nice roof shakes, though they were somewhat tedious to attach. The stick portion proved even more tedious, as they cannot be all rigidly attached, since I wanted a tightly packed thatching of sticks.

"That's why I brought you out here," responded Chalin. He climbed the hill to the storehouse. There wasn't enough room at the archer's barracks to practice any kind of long ranged shooting, so they had built a storehouse in one of the fields near the town. He pulled quivers, arrows, and bows out and passed them around to the archers. "Alright men," began Chalin. "Today Natolyth has agreed to help train you against magic users." "To started with," said Natolyth, "I will be sending this bewitched crow's carcass out over your heads. As you shoot at it I will be pushing at you with my power. Try to resist me and hit the moving object at the same time." OoC: This is the largest chunk of snot rockwork I've attempted to date. Let me know what you think.
  13. Farmer Segir and his daughter Triafra check on the progress of their crops. Knowing summer is nearly over, Segir prepares to harvest his crops to store up for the winter. His small farm plot had very stony soil that had to be prepared. First, he cleared rocks from the plot and built a small retaining wall with the rocks and stones. After applying manure from his neighbor's cows and horses, the ground was prepared for growing a variety of crops. His prize mushrooms bring a nice price at the market in Falkidalr. Segir checks on his crops regularly because neighbor Farmer Maggot has reported that certain small fellows in the area are particularly fond of pilfered crops, especially mushrooms . Crops include: Corn Mushrooms Tomatoes Butternut Squash Cauliflower Leeks Constructive criticism is much appreciated. Thanks, Stian

Snow was already starting to accumulate around the buildings where the shadows kept the sun away. For any Mitgardian it was the perfect weather. Valanice had already started to adjust to the cold temperatures and walked around without even noticing the cold as the rest of the city residents did. Her sisters though, found themselves shivering a little and they relished every chance they got to step indoors whenever they could. They visited the village bakery where Nora always seemed to have a worried expression on her face. Valanice explained to her sisters that it was because she was always worried that her husband was going to burn the bread. They spent the most time at the jeweler gazing at his selection of fine gems. They also walked past the blacksmith shop where the cooper had been busy banding barrels but was currently re-shoeing a horse. The girls had just finished looking at all the wares the stall owners had to offer and were listening to one of the local minstrels playing for coins and chatting with each other in the square. Valanice had picked up some food to add to their dinner and had been tempted at the one of the stalls to buy a new shovel from the dwarf that ran the shop. It would help her as she worked in the small garden around their house. There had been a lot of bustle amongst the dwarves of Dalig Ulv these days. Not only were they concerned about the recent deaths of their kind, but Valanice had also heard rumor that word had come from their council with some big decision. They were often seen huddled together discussing in animated tones. Valanice was just about to suggest to her sisters that they head back when a startled cry caught her attention. She turned to see a woman standing over an older dwarf elder and muttering under her breath. Valanice hefted her axe and prepared to charge the woman when two more women stepped up to block her path and with a flick of their wrists everyone around them was pushed back a few feet. All of a sudden four warriors rushed in to attack the three women. A half-dozen different blades were all rushing toward the nefarious women when Edea stopped focusing on the dwarf and added her mutterings to her sisters. All four warriors flew back with a burst of power. Just then, Natolyth ran up. He had just made it back to Dalig Ulv after his journey to Cedrica. He stood between the three sisters and the rest of the townsfolk with fireballs smoldering in his hands. “It’s been a long time Edea, since you had me enslaved, and I will not allow you to do likewise to any of these good people!” growled Natolyth. “I see you have not put the powers I gave you to waste Natolyth” answered Edea. “It is too bad you are not still under my control. I could do great things with your power.” “Enough!” Natolyth shouted, “I thought you were finished back in the cathedral, but obviously I did not do a good enough job of it.” “Oh, you exacted your toll well enough” said Edea, pulling back her hood and revealing her white hair. “It cost me much to recover from your attack. But my fight is not with you this time.” Turning to her sisters she said, “We have what we need, it’s time for us to go.” And with that they vanished. Valanice ran up to Natolyth and said, “You’ve arrived back home just in time!” “So it would seem” he replied. “But what is going to happen next?” OoC: I'll be claiming some HSS credits in this build for Bakery, Cooper, Blacksmith, Jeweler, and Minstrel.
  15. Floka's Fine Fabrics is a new addition to the market area of Ruadh. Though she's planning an expansion, proprietress Floka is currently using the building and yard as a showing space for the dyed linens and textiles she imports from her family in Mitgardia. Mitgardian cloth, especially dyed cloth, is highly prized throughout Kaliphlin and the thicker, woolier fabrics are the perfect solution to cold desert nights. You can't go very far in Ruadh without stumbling across artists at work. Here, a husband and wife practice a heady mix of Queenscross lyre and Rakathi calligraphy. So far, Floka has been able to manage with just the warehouse space and outdoor racking available to her. Though theft is not much of a problem in Ruadh, Floka worries that it will be as the village grows. If she keeps doing so well, she'll be too nervous to carry the day's earnings on her person back to her home where it is stored in a strongbox. Thankfully, her request for a foot patrol above the shop was approved. Floka tries her best to stock as many colors and styles as possible. Here comes a customer. Floka may look Kaliphlinite after long years away from home, but she's Mitgardian down to her bones. Even at her age, she lugs a hefty roll of dyed wool in preparation for a visiting noble's order. The strain barely shows in the corner of her mouth. The second of my Ruadh builds! Not as complex or difficult as the amphitheater, but nontheless plenty of fun. This pretty much exhausts my tan which is too bad as I'd like to do something more extensive in Kali at some point. Things I notice about this build that I'd fix next time would be: a better overhead pic as I did a nice carpeting thing on the roof in bright green and purple. I'd also remove the wooden plank flooring inside Floka's shop in favor of another carpety build, perhaps a cheese mosaic or something. I was not that ambitious this time around. Finally, I should have put in supports or otherwise bulked up the catwalk above the cloth racks. Looks a little flimsy as is. Anyway, thanks for looking! It's good to be back building GoH!
  16. Sir Gareth left Avalonia in hope of uniting the four guilds against the Drow. He currently travels throughout Mitgardia in search of those strong enough and willing to join his cause. It was during these travels, that he discovered a small camp of Huns. Before the warriors willingly swore their loyalty, he challenged them to a test of their strength. While neither bested Sir Gareth, for he is a highly experienced knight, they did impress him. He cheerfully accepted their pledge of allegiance; delighted to recruit such skilled soldiers. I threw this together to show off my brand new Hun Warriors (I finally found a case of CMF Series 12 at Target ) I had a lot of fun building this and writing the story. My favorite part was posing the minifigures, but I enjoyed making the snow too. And finally, those Avalonians, Mitgardians, Kaliphlians, and Nocturnians wanting to join Sir Gareth's cause, please post your pledge of allegiance in the comments. For everyone that does, I will try to build a vignette of Sir Gareth meeting your character. The colours of Sir Gareth's flag are dark green, green, and red, as his army currently consists of Avalonians, Mitgardians, and Nocturnians. But as Kaliphlians join, I will add dark blue. Historica united can defeat the Drow once and for all! C&C are welcome!

    Traveling Partners

See the previous parts of the story: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 After the incident in Teridyan, Wyndor and Glorfindel headed back towards Valholl. They walked through the hospitable landscape of Mitgardia. They walked past refreshing rivers. They helped those they found that could not help themselves. They faced some fearsome beasts... and handled them each in his own way. And soon found themselves nearing Valholl. Thank you to SK for starting this collab. It's been a lot of fun. I look forward to the conclusion! I wanted to try something a little different for this post. The smaller builds gave me some freedom to try some different ideas. This was also my first attempt at using colored backgrounds. Let me know what you think. Edit: I've listened to the feedback and made some changes and took some new pictures. The old pictures are in the spoiler.

    AoM: Stables Phase I

My grandfather teaches me to ride: Today, my grandfather thinks I have completed my riding training. He has shown me all he knows of riding and thinks it will not be long before I will become a Falki Ridder, just like my older brother Hammond. I hope I can be as brave as Hammond. He always was the adventurous hero in the family. As we head back to Falkidalr, I glance back and see the flags of Mitgardia and Erlnad Blar flying atop an outpost in the mountains. Then I look towards home. It has been a tiresome day completing my riding training, and my bed will be most welcome tonight! Stian Vitr AoM-StablesPhase1-2 by Slegengr, on Flickr Without Minifigures: AoM-StablesPhase1-3 by Slegengr, on Flickr -------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for looking. Constructive criticism is most welcome. I wanted this build to be a simpler background, styled after 3-d cartoon maps, while adding a forced perspective. I am not sure it is very forced other than the shrinking trees. Let me know what you think.

    AoM: Archery Phase I

My father earns his title: Vitr Traust In the days before I was born, my father, Frode Vitr, became a well-known man in our community. A white wolf had presented itself a threat to Falkidalr when it attacked anyone found outside the walls. Elusive as a ghost, the wolf evaded all attempts on its life. Hunter after hunter failed to find and kill the wolf, until my father went hunting. He had found brush marks by a rocky outcropping near a river, so he waited nearby. He suspected that the wolf was using its own tail to wipe out its footprints. It did not take long before he heard thrashing in the underbrush. As he headed toward the sound, the wolf suddenly burst out and headed right for my father. Without hesitation, my father drew back his bow and released an arrow straight into the open mouth of the wolf. Upon returning with the wolf skin, my father was hailed a hero. Erland Blar himself awarded my father the title Vitr Traust, Drepa Vitr Ulfa (White Protection, Killer of White Wolf). She had spent the past few years with her Uncle Richard learning what he had to teach her, but her sisters had remained with her parents. With the plague and the Drow dealt with for now, the road between Avalonia and Mitgardia was thought to be safe. Wyndor had built a large house for he and Valanice soon after they had moved to Dalig Ulv. Valanice enjoyed showing her sisters around and having their help in keeping house while Wyndor was away. Without figs: Comments are welcome! This is one of, if not the largest single building I've attempted to date. I'm happy with some parts, not so happy with others. Like the tower. I really don't like it. So if you have negative feedback on it, I'll probably agree with you. I was running out of bricks, and it was already fully integrated with the rest of the building so I couldn't take it out. So there you have it. Let me know what you think.

    SG's AoM: Farm Phase 2

It's that time of year again. The days are colder and shorter. The leaves begin to fall. Farmer Rudasill admires yet another successful growing season. He knows harvest grows near. This build was harder than expected due to a limited piece selection. I'm planning on picking up more parts for Phase 3. That aside, it was still enjoyable none the less. I particularly liked building the corn and tomato plants. I'm happy to finally work that scarecrow into one of my builds :) Thanks gedren_y for the pumpkin suggestion! It was a pain working with those Indy whips (they always seem to want to curl back up), but I love the end result. C&C are welcome!
  22. Rumors of unrest and potential incursions over the Mitgardian/Avalonian border have reached the ears of Sir Brychan, and because his lands lie on the border, he has taken it upon himself to keep a careful watch on activity crossing in and out of Avalonia. Along with having checkpoints and requiring certifying papers for those crossing the border, he has sent a regiment of his soldiers to regularly patrol the pass Brotnað Liða, which is the only viable way for a person to cross the mountains that form the border. Some of the soldiers on patrol. Same soldiers... But from another angle... This is just a build I did today to get away from my task 5, which has been consuming most of my building time lately and has me rather uninspired. So I figured I'd take a break for while, and maybe start working on some more "tour of historica" builds. It was also an experiment/first attempt at doing snow, along with the leaning pine tree technique. (P.S. I was able take the pictures outside today, and it definitely helped a lot) (P.P.S. Brotnað Liða, ruffly translated from old norse, means broken pass, just so y'all know)

    AoM: Stables Phase 1

AoM: Stables Phase 1 by ~ Sir Gareth ~, on Flickr I decided to take a break from working on my Farm Phase II and build this instead. It was rather fun to make. I quite enjoyed building the snow. My favorite part has to be the cheese slopes surrounding the pole. C&C are welcome!

    AoM: Farm Phase 2

There are many small farms located around Volhaal in Southern Graystar. However there are fewer that are vinyards. Had this sitting around for over a week, finally had time to take pictures and edit. As per usual C&C are gladly welcome
  25. Not much of a story this time. Phase I can be found here, and the obvious inspiration for the tower itself, Combee's wonderful WoW-inspired Ogre Encampment, is here. I'm still unsure how the legs connect to the tower platform in his; mine is a very shaky connection via hinge bricks. Had a lot of fun trying to figure it all out! Over a year after Ruggezh and Tark of the Grashtaz tribe killed the guards of a small outpost, an Orcish tower had emerged in its place. Moving quickly after the scouts returned with news of their conquest, the Dwarven outpost was demolished, the orcs not even bothering to clear out all of the debris--even building upon it, and displaying the remains of the slain guards. The tree next to the outpost was struck down and used to build the rickety tower, along with several other nearby trees. Emboldened by their success and with a foothold in this mountain pass, the orcs invaded the nearby mining town and became entrenched in the region. The dwarves and humans, however, were already drawing plans to drive the orcs back to the Marches and fortify the southwest... "Alas, poor Thorgal...." They shredded the Mitgardian flag, but the colors still shone brightly! The stump of the tree remains, and a tumble of ruined stone serves as crude steps to the ramp spiraling around the tower. In addition to removing the original outpost (built on a couple 6x12 plates attached via jumpers to the greater base), I rearranged several pieces of the surrounding base, mostly what were meant to be loose stones, kicked around as the orcs built their new tower. See the rest on my Flickr! Thanks for taking a peek!
