[CH V Cat E] Easy Come, Easy Go

[to be read aloud and rapidly - like a sports commentator] And here we are again for tonights final round of GoT - that famous "Game of Treasure", our treasure hunt. Well, and there they go on the left, the brave islanders, digging for the treasure, handing over the gold bars... They are working away quickly - but wait, what is that? A Marderian soldier is stealing the gold! They are forcing the natives to work for them! My goodness, there is no end to Marderian evilness. Passing the ingot to the next Marderian player, moving midfield. Steady. And the gold is gone! This came quite unexpectedly for Mardier - pirate Henry was taking a shot here. Excellent move for the pirates. The pirates now in the lead! But no - Mardier is back and more evil than ever. The pirates have lost the gold and it all goes to Mardier again. We all know the Marderian motto: "No need to be nice on the way up 'cos we're not going down" This is exciting, it is the second half in this final game and Mardier has got the gold. Which means Mardier is not broke and will continue in the GoT league in the upcoming season. Well they will surely give Eslandola, Oleon and Corrington a hard time... But again "no" - Mardier is hit from behind by another pirate. And Mardier is going down after a wonderful "thud". I heard a whisper "for Brickwall" - I suspect this guy is one of Brickwall Jones' nephews. And here we are - the pirates are back in the game. Excellent thudding there from Captain Redbeard. The higher they come, the hardier they fall in Mardier. What is this? There must be some disagreement within the pirate team? One of them is pretty tied up at the moment. Has he been double crossed by one of his red-bearded mates? No, Eslandola is back and they are striking with a vengeance! They are sweeping the ground from pirates and they have taken the gold! The Eslandolean flag is waving all over the place. And the crowd is cheering! What a great match, tonight. Certainly no disappointment for the international spectators. And on the right I can see Colonel Brickinson. Brickinson is leading his team to victory. Nobody expected the Eslandolean army. They have been using their chief weapon: surprise. Surprise and cleverness. And I wonder where they got the information that brought them here to this secret place just in time for the final moments of the game. The ingots are piling up for Eslandola. So the score is Mardier: 0, Eslandola: 542! Aaaaaaaaand the game is over! A big win for Brickinson's team tonight - and they are celebrating! The champagne is flowing as the gold is being shipped to Pontelli. What a night for Eslandola. That is it for Mardier. They are broke and won't be able to afford the license for the next season. I can see the debt collectors gathering at the side of the field and the first vultures have started to circle in ...
  2. Amazing part one by Sir Stig Part two: After the discoveries in Breshaun, Jan Zwartbaard went asap to Trador. Lord Maximilian Damaximus was easily convinced to sent at least an exploration party. Jan Zwartbaad could use the AQAR to sail to New Haven. The 50 gun vessel would be a safe head quarter for exploration. Once arrived at the beach, they set up a small camp ashore, manned by 40 soldiers. 50 soldiers stayed in the AQAR and 10 soldiers went exploring the jungle together with Jan Zwartbaard and a few Tenotclaxcan warriors. Zwartbaard hoped those natives would be helpfull when encountering new tribes. The jungle itself kept surprising Zwartbaard. So many wonderfull colours and animals. Luckily he was not a Corringtonlander or he would have been distracted all the time figuring out the newly discovered fauna and flora. Sometimes, he looked around him as he was sure they were being watched, but he could not see other humans. Part three: If the calculations were right, they would be in the middle of the island now. They would discover a lake soonish. And indeed, a few minutes later, they arrived at a complete new world. What they saw was not a flourishing village, but a destroyed and razed settlement. Upon arriving, he could not find a single living soul. Jan Zwartbaard ordered his soldiers to search for any clue they could find. It was at this point his Tenotclaxcan friends were helpfull as their well-trained ears heard some silent noise under one of the burnt houses. They quickly headed to what used to be the biggest building, discovering a small entrance to a hide-out. The natives they saw inside the hide-out were frightened and refused to come out. Jan Zwartbaard understood that they were too late. Mardier already arrived first and burned down the village in their struggle to find the treasure. Jan Zwartbaard ordered to give food to the survivors. Accepting his losses and not looking forward to report his defeat, he decided to stay a bit longer here and ordered his men to start building a campment in the village. 2 Soldiers went back to the shore to get 20 more soldiers and some supplies and materials. The more food they gave to the natives, the more they came out of their hide-outs and out of the jungle. Due to the actions of Jan Zwartbaard, the natives became friendly and with the help of the Tenotclaxcans, some sort of communication started. It was a surprise when the Tenotclaxcans understood the words of the natives and vice versa. It appears that the village they discovered is the capital of the Azclaxcans Tribes and they are relatives of the Tenotclaxcans. It were indeed orange wearing people who raided the village when they found out there was no huge amount of gold stored in the houses. They probably went to the next village, so the natives fear that their neighbours will have had the same destiny. After hearing what horrible deeds Mardier did, Jan Zwartbaard announced they had to go back to the known world to ask for back up and more resources. He appointed one of his sergeants in charge of 20 soldiers who would stay on the island to help rebuilding the other villages together with the Azclaxcans and some of the younger Tenotclaxcans who have no wife at home who would be angry because they would be really really late for dinner. Just when they said goodbye, the prince of the Azclaxcans, Prince AzTe Hek, asked permission to his father, King AzTe Nek, to accompany Jan Zwartbaard. The King not only gave permission, but also handed out a golden bracelet filled with precious diamonds to Jan Zwartbaard. That’s why Mardier burned the village down, they didn’t find anything as it was hidden as well! With the deepest bow he ever could do, Zwartbaard thanked the chief and started his journey back home together with prince AzTe Hek and a small MAESTRO party. Deep in thoughts, he figured how MAESTRO could secure the future of those natives. It would be a matter of time before other factions will visit the natives. He took a last glimp over his shoulder to see the Azclaxcan King waving goodbye. Some more overview pictures Thanks a lot for reading and commenting! Congratz to everyone who participated in this challenge and the other challenges! It was a wonderfull Book 1 and I am looking forward to Book 2! I have to thank the Eslandolan members for their activity through book 1. I am very happy I choosed Eslandola as faction as we were an united faction, even when divided in multiple trade companies. Go MAESTRO! Go Eslandola!

    Tiptoe Through The Wheat Field

[The Secret of the 8 Provinces - Prelude] [The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 1st Chapter The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 2nd Chapter Captain Cookie continued: "So, of course, the Corrington troops were alarmed and set out to catch the highwayman." "Did they succeed", Lady De Summer asked. "Initially very much so. They were able to track him down and chase him into a wheat field..." Sergeant Salt and his men were confident. They would find that evil robbing highwayman. The field was practically surrounded, there was not escape. Sergeant Salt ordered his men to comb through the field. Farmer Giles, however, was furious. He had not seen such outrageous vandalism in his whole life! The farmer cursed the soldiers and maybe this was the reason why they did not catch the highwayman. The highwayman seemed to have disappeared, vanished into thin air. The soldiers searched and searched until nightfall and then returned to their barracks ...
  4. It had been four of the most harrowing days of Jack Merker’s life. When it began, he was the captain of the Wolf II, a class 3 armed brig that was part of a flotilla of smaller ships in the Eslandola fleet sent to end Mardier’s blockade of Fuerte Unido. The fight had started so well the first night with the resounding defeat of the Mardier fleet. They had been caught at anchor, totally surprised. The Mardierians had no choice but to try to burn their own ships to deny them to Eslandola. And Eslandola still took two of their ships and captured the Mardier commander, Commodore Vrinsky. But then, through the fog the next morning, the victorious Eslandolans saw what they thought were their comrades from Trador. Instead, it was a Sea Rats fleet in the pay of Mardier, flying false colors. The Eslandolans realized the ruse too late, and soon were in a battle for their lives. After the Sea Rats victory, they made camp for two days on the shores of the bay outside the range of Fuerte Unido’s guns and repaired their ships. Finally, the Trador fleet arrived and ran them off after a fight for the ages. [Edit: That's not exactly how the battle ended, but that's my Eslandian-slanted story and I'm sticking to it. ] And now, with the battle finally over and his administrative duties in the battle’s aftermath concluded, Jack Merker needed a drink. Captain Merker found his way to a new tavern in the growing settlement of Fuerte Unido. Upon entering, he made his way past a fellow sailor who had a big head start on Merker in the drinking category and headed for an empty table. The barmaid soon returned from the kitchen. “A mug of your strongest, if you would be so kind, “ said Merker as he removed his hat. “Our strongest?” she replied. “It packs quite a wallop. You sure you can handle it?” she teased. “My dear woman,” replied Merker, “I have survived quite a wallop, as you put it, for the last three days, so I assure you I can handle whatever you bring me.” “Were you in the big battle in the bay?” she asked excitedly. “We’ve heard all sorts of things. Which ship was yours?” “I was indeed, in the battle. I am, er, was the captain of the Wolf II.” “Was?” she queried. “You lost the Wolf to those Sea Rats, eh?” “The Wolf II, yes, I did,” Merker replied with a sigh. “Wolf II? What happened to the Wolf?” “I lost the Wolf to a Mardier war fleet last month. The Wolf II was her sistership.” “You don’t seem very good at keeping ships. How did you get to be the captain of a navy ship?” “I was recruited from the merchant ranks, where I lost the armed sloop Lady’s Revenge to pirates. May we change the subject now?” “Of course, hun. But do tell me about the battle. How do you come to be sitting in our tavern today if you lost your ship in the battle? I’d think you’d have been drowned, or taken prisoner back to Mardier, or made to walk the plank.” “Naval officers do not make men ‘walk the plank’,” said Jack. “That’s pirates.” “Aren’t the Sea Rats pirates?” the barmaid asked. “They were in the employ of Mardier, so technically they were privateers,” replied Merker. Silently, Jack stewed on the fact they were, for all practical purposes, indeed pirates. “Excuse me, where was I?” “You lost your ship and were captured by privateers, and they did not make you walk the plank.” “Yes, thank you. One of the other ships in my squadron exploded when their magazine was hit, and the other surrendered. We were boarded and fought as best we could, but the Puck’s Jest was a much bigger ship and they had us outnumbered. After that, we spent two miserable days in the hold of the Puck’s Jest as their captives while they affected repairs. We were quite relieved to see the Trador fleet finally enter the bay.” “I read that several sailors from town joined the Sea Rats and fought against Eslandola’s Trador fleet.” Merker looked at the barmaid incredulously. “Sailed against the Trador fleet? Where did you hear that?” “I read it in the Kings Port Advertiser.” “Don’t believe everything you read in the newspaper.” The barmaid looked at him with a confused expression. Merker continued. “The resulting battle between the Sea Rats and the Trador fleet was a confusing affair, and we could not follow it well from the hold of the ship. But when the Puck’s Jest captured the Sleeping Siren II, we saw our chance. While the Sea Rats were busy above deck putting together a prize crew to run the Sleeping Siren, we made our way out a port hole and across to the Siren through a gun port. We were able to see that the Purple Reign was in trouble, with her men getting into the boats, so we signaled them. They could see that the Siren was now flying Mardier colors, but that we had more men aboard her than the prize crew realized. The men from the Purple Reign dodged hellfire to make their way to the Siren. As the prize crew fired on the longboats, we set about freeing the Siren’s original crew from their chains. As Commodore Lenoir and the Purple Reign’s crew finally made it up the sides, we surprised the prize crew from below, and together we retook the Sleeping Siren II.” “Did you make the prize crew walk the plank?” asked the barmaid. Merker sighed. “We are not pirates, nor convicts as the KPA would like everyone to believe. The prisoners have been locked up in town.” “Still, quite a drubbing we took,” said the barmaid. “I’m afraid it’s only a matter of days before Mardier comes over the mountains from La Puebloto and attacks the town.” “My good woman,” replied Merker, “if Mardier were capable of such a feat, they would have done it long before now. La Puebloto is ours after the great victory led by the Prince of Brickwall – may he rest in peace. General Alonso and the troops stationed here have fought a masterful campaign, as have General Samu’s troops on the eastern part of the island. We have taken several Mardier settlements, yet they have not set foot in Fuerte Unido. The KPA may crow about their great victory, but it is their fleet that is no more. The Sea Rats may be celebrating their showing, but they are hired guns, and they also have losses to mourn. No, victory will be ours.” Merker paused, then added: “Now then, would you please go and fetch me that rum?”

    Too Much Monkey Business

The tension was rising in the court room of Pontelli. Judge Enrico Fineman was under stress. He had not expected a trial against the Mayor of Pontelli, Alberto da Pontelli. The prosecutress, Lady Asma April, was just closing her plea: "This monkey business that is going on is just unbelievable. This man is a member of the Eslandolean Parliamant - and what is the first thing he does? He brings his monkey to the Hall of Eslandola! What a disgrace! I ask you: Does this man have no honour in himself? Does he think he can make a fool of Eslandola? That he can subject Pontelli to ridicule?" "Do you think that a man like Alberto should continue to be a member of the Parliament? I very much doubt so!" Alberto had never felt so bad in his whole life. Now this strange woman was after him, after he had done so much for Pontelli and Eslandola. Lady April had finished her plea. Judge Enrico Fineman cleared his throat to announce the verdict: "Alberto da Pontelli. The court wants you to retire as a member of the Eslandolean Parliament. Will you accept the verdict." "Yes, I will", Alberto replied quietly. "That is not enough", Lady April shouted, "he also has to step down from his position as Mayor!" Judge Fineman hesitated for a moment: "Alberto, will you also step down from your role as Mayor of Pontelli?" "Yes, I will", Alberto replied quietly. The Judge looked at Lady Asma: "But who will be the leader of our city?" "I will", Lady April coldly returned. "And I will make Pontelli proud again!" The Judge banged his gavel and the court room fell into an uneasy silence. C&C Welcome. To leadership: Please note change in the role of Mayor on Pontelli. This is now Lady Asma April.

    Stand and Deliver

[The Secret of the 8 Provinces - Prelude] [The Secret of the 8 Provinces - 1st Chapter "My dear Lady De Summer, there was a highwayman who was operating in Corrington." "Where exactly?" "On Cocovia - between King's Harbour and Quinnsville. He was robbing coaches." "Many coaches?" "Many coaches." "Usually Corrington travellers, but he was also robbing the occasional Oleon vacationist." "And what did he take from his victims?" "That was the interesting part. He never took money or lupines. It seemed that he was looking for something more interesing. Then one day..." "Stand and deliver! You move at your peril, for I have two pistols here." "Please, dear Sir, don't take our gold" "I do not want your gold" "Please, good man, do not take our lupines." "I am not interested in lupines". "Then... what do you want from us." "The ship." "What ship?" Lady De Summer asked. "A yellow model of the 8 Provinces." "Yellow? But your model is reddish." "Quite so, Mylady. You will understand soon. Let me go on with the story." [End of Chapter 1] C&C Welcome. (Original pictures can be found on flickr.)
  7. "...As for Royal Properties, I suggest that we send out a letter signed by the members of the Colonial Council to every settlement of Eslandola, asking for voluntary aid for the construction of three Royal Properties for the faction... and the third between the first of December and the last of February of the year 618..." History, my dear folks, is in the making! Just a small build to celebrate Captain Whiffo's first proposal in the Colonial Council - which passed, naturally, and with flying colours - especially as it had to do with minimizing taxes... The Chandelier: Among others who voted for the proposal (from left to right, below) we find here Mr. Jerome Monezterrell, Captain Whiffo (though, actually, he didn't vote himself...), Myles Bowditch, Mr. Aaron van der Meede, Captain Philip Janszen, General Samu, and Colonel Oystridge, some of the leading members of Eslandola, and all delegates in the Colonial Council. One more overview: And lastly, a shot of the delegates by themselves - I was quite happy that I was able to get at least one from each delegation which voted for the proposal in, even with so little room! A couple of other things... The windows are based on Elostirion's excellent design for the Parliamentary seat in Montario (Lion Hall) with only minor changes (which would also be where this build takes place), and the hat rack was ruthlessly stolen borrowed straight from Ayrlego's design in his latest build Thanks for viewing, all, C&C are welcome!

CH V Cat D Fish: Catching Tuna

"I got it", cried the Garvian privateer. "Steady", shouted the other. "It is mine. I have caught it first", yelled the Marderian fisherman. All of them were pretty ignorant of the large wave that was approaching the two vessels rapidly ... It was a huge wave indeed... This is my "just in time" entry for this category I think I got everything covered: 2 vessels (brick built), fish (brick built), wave (brick built). C&C welcome! (more and larger pictures can be found on flickr)
  9. The capture of the Dark Narwhal, and the death of her captain had been told readily enough. Captain Daffyd Prows, known to many as Splattersquawk, had been struck by a precise cannon shot, sending his body off the ship and into the deep. What had not been told was that the force of the shot had knocked the close-by first mate, Tolan duBroise, senseless for several minutes. During that time the crew of the Dark Narwhal were overwhelmed. When Tolan came to he only had time to grab all that remained of his late captain, his black hat with the gold tiara, before he was surrounded by the invading Sea Rat crew. Holding tight to the hat and his favorite map, Tolan allowed the invaders to disarm and shackle him. He was quickly ushered over to the Darting Frog, and into a fully shuttered captain's cabin. The cabin was lit with three oil lamps, and was decorated with items seeming to have originated from the far southwest of the Halosian continent. This was not surprising, given the look of most of the crew. His captors forced Tolan into a seat before a grandly carved desk, holding him in place. One cocked the pistol taken from him, and the other placed Tolan's rapier on the desk within easy reach. Tolan relaxed with the understanding that if he behaved he would survive. It was several minutes before a man obviously the captain came through the door. He said something in some other tongue to the crewmen, took the cocked pistol, and sat across from Tolan. The two crewmen were quick to exit. The captain smiled at Tolan, laying the pistol on the far side of the rapier, within his easy reach. "I am Captain now." the man said, with no hint of accent. Tolan gave a slight nod. "Please lay your map and hats on the desk," he asked. When Tolan did so he continued, "You are a valuable man, Tolan duBroise. I answer to Captain Sulu. You know the name?" Tolan nodded again. "Good. Captain Sulu has prepared a ransom contract should we capture you," he said, handing over a piece of parchment, "Please read." It was a simple contract, but clear and generous. He would be held at a secret location, and well cared for, until the ransom was paid. The sum listed wasn't unreasonable, so Tolan knew his family would pay. The note also informed him that all his maps would be copied, but anything on his person save pistols would be returned. For his part the contract stipulated that Tolan, upon release, was to swear off seeking any revenge on the interests of Captain Sulu. "My crew?" Tolan asked. "May stay or go when we sell the ship," the captain replied with a shrug. As Tolan reached across the desk the captain tensed, but relaxed when he lifted the quill in the inkwell. Signing the parchment, he asked, "May I know your name?" "I was told not to give it," the captain replied. "Ah," Tolan responded, returning the parchment. The captain took a long moment examining Tolan's signature, comparing it to the notes on the map before him. When he was satisfied, the captain spread sand on the ink to set it, blew on the words, and quickly rolled it. A bit of black wax was applied, and a seal impressed into it. It was only when this business was done that Tolan realized that the Darting Frog had been under sail for quite some time. The captain called out in that other tongue, and a different crewman came in with a black sack. "You are a canny navigator, Mr. duBroise," the captain told him, "This is a minor thing to keep our holding facility secure." The sack went over Tolan's head before he could comment. Covered, he was ushered out of the office, across the deck, into the hold, and then across what seemed the extent of the hold. On this trip he heard the voices of his crewmen. "Hold steady, mates," Tolan told them with as much conviction as he could, "Ye'll be free soon enough." Tolan could tell that the man escorting him was taking him around several alternating stacks of tall cargo (plunder?) to his holding place. When they stopped, the unknown crewman spun Tolan left and right repeatedly, confusing his sense of direction. Then came a wooden clack and the creaking of hinges. With sudden push Tolan stumbled into an empty space, followed by a heavy thud. It didn't take long before Tolan realized he was alone, and he removed the black sack. "A smuggler's hold? Here?" Tolan exclaimed when he realized where he was. A small shaft of light pierced the darkness of the place, likely from a knocked out knot in the wood. It let him see three barrels on the left side of the space (he couldn't tell if it was port or starboard), and on the right a small enamel pot. His privy he guessed. A quick examination of the barrels revealed that one was water, one was hardtack, and one was salted beef. His provisions obviously. Tolan looked out the knot hole, but all he could see was a line of planks. With little to do, Tolan settled against the beef barrel and began to sing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tolan would spend nearly a week in the little hold, seeing only two crewmen when they came to empty his pot. One would hold a pistol on him, and the other would leave with the pot, empty it and return, then they would both leave. By the end of his stay the place had become quite ripe. It was night when Tolan heard the clear sound of an anchor going down. It was simple matter to expect whomever came for him would want the sack on his head, so Tolan did this himself. It wasn't long before he heard the hidden door open and a gruff voice say, "Good. Walk." Sack covered, Tolan was put into what he could tell was a dinghy, rowed to a beach, and marched through some dense foliage. There was an expanse of open ground, then a stone pathway. The sound of a large door opening, then Tolan was walking on wooden floors. Tolan was told to keep walking, with nudges on one shoulder or another to indicate turns. As he came through another door, he heard the shuttering of a window to his left. Tolan was turned to his right, and the bag his shackles were removed. He stood in a hallway. Ahead to his left was a barred doorway, and on the right was a small table. "Your things stay there," a crewman told him pointing at the table. Pointing at the barred doorway he continued, "You go in there." Tolan had little choice but to comply. The room looked comfortable enough, though it had been decorated for a lady, and lacked any windows. As soon as Tolan was locked in, his escorts left. A few minutes later the clattering of a shutter bathed the hallway in light. Tolan put his face against the doorway to try and see the window, but no angle gave him even the edge of it. Upon searching his quarters, Tolan found behind a screen at the far wall (not pictured) was a private garderobe, with the even better luxury of running water. That night in the soft bed was another luxury that Tolan hadn't had since the Dark Narwhal sailed out of port in October. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning Tolan was awoken to the sound of someone unlocking the door. In came a woman with a pistol, a man with a plate of food and cup of ale, and best of all, a man with a razor and a towel. After the shave they left, and Tolan ate. Later two would come, one with pistol and one to get the dishes. Lunch and dinner were same, without the shave, which would only be every third morning. During the day between meals Tolan would pray and exercise. This would be his routine for about three months. Tolan did his best to mark the date, and when he couldn't quite remember those who served him his meals were willing to tell him. This allowed Tolan to honor the holy days of his faith as best he could. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feb. 18, 617 Today's mid-day clinking door came with some welcome news. Today his ransom would be paid. "Out with ye, man," called the one in red. "My effects," Tolan exclaimed. "Hold there a moment," the man in greens told him. The man in green tossed one of his blades to the woman with red hair, and quickly put Tolan's rapier in its place. "You'll get this back when you're with your people," he told Tolan, "And I'll carry your map while you wear the bag." "Well then," Tolan replied, picking up his brown hat, "I guess I'll give this hat to the lad, if he'll carry my other." "Ah, well, okay then," the young man in red replied. "Now, on with the bag, and let's go," Tolan exclaimed. With the black sack firmly in place the quartet made their way out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was another jungle walk, but it seemed to Tolan that they were taking a different direction than the night he came in. The walk was longer than before, but to the beach they made it. Before long Tolan was settled into a dinghy. The trip in the boat was quite long too, and intentionally obtuse. His escorts took strange arcing turns, and five times paddled in circles both directions before heading off again. As soon as the boat came to shore, the sack came off, the black hat plonked down on Tolan's head, and the map thrust into his hands with a, "There you go." The foursome took another long walk, a full two miles down the beach to a well cared for dock. Just before stepping up Tolan noted a fortified house just inside the treeline, with at least two muskets pointed out of a window. A quick trot down, and Tolan greeted some welcome friends. Viscount Alexander Doblin was expected, and Captain Hammish Grei of the Island Rose a welcome sight, but it was High Priestess Ylsbeth the Starcatcher that was a most rewarding surprise. While Tolan greeted his party, the man in greens tossed the rapier. His aim was bad, though, and it headed for the frozen grin of Captain Grei. Ylsbeth, proving at least part of her name true, caught the blade, and lightly handed it to Hammish. The Sea Rats were quick take their prize and leave. Viscount Doblin wanted an accounting of why the Dark Narwhal was lost. Tolan handed him his map, on the back of which was listed all the times Daffyd Prows sailed for blood not cargo. He also told Alexander how it was Daffyd who was targeted when they took the ship. "How would ye like to be the captain of the Island Rose, lad?" Hammish asked as he handed the rapier to Tolan. "Oh, I'd gladly command her," Tolan replied with a smile, "But why?" "I'm a good score of years older than I look, and I've a mind to settle down," he told the younger seaman, "The good Priestess here has offered to make me the in-shore Commodore for the Island Rose and Consort's Duty. When ye're berthed in Nova Terreli I'll assist ye with cargo, and new crew if need be. Ye'll be reportin' all yer accountin' and turnin' over what's owed to the Crahaish to me. I'll also be respons'ble for givin' orders from the Crahaish, if they be needin' either of their ships for some purpose." "You're the right man for the job, Hammish," Ylsbeth encouraged the man. "I even have a mind to try for a seat on the Colonial Council. 10. Breaking News from the Isla de la Many Names!!! ...May, 617... In an epic series of attacks and through the courage - or recklessness - of its soldiers and generals, the Eslandolans have taken down Mardier's Royal Fortress on the island, and now the green and gold fly triumphantly from its peak! No news has come in from the second fort, but it is certified that the third has as of yet repulsed the green onslaught, and the battle on the island is not over yet! Eslandola has suffered some severe losses in the assaults, many of the leading members of the house of Brickwall going down with as many heroic bangs. Is this the end for Mardier on the island? Or is it only a temporary setback from which they will soon recover? Will the quest for the fabled city of gold yet turn the tide for the nation of yellow? One thing is sure - the Eslandolans' morale is high! Category B results: Winning Side: 1st Place: Eslandola 2nd Place: Mardier Faction Winners: 1st Place: Oleon 2nd Place: Sea Rats 3rd Place: Corrington Individual Winners: 1st Place: Garmadon (ESL) - Prize, 31063 Beachside Vacation Highest scoring non-leadership member (ESL) - Faladrin - Prize, 500 PIPs and a free medium fort (activated by a micro-build) to be placed anywhere Runner-up: Kolonialbeamter (MAR) - Prize, 300 PIPs and a free small fortress (activated, likewise, by a micro-build) Highest scoring non-leadership member (MAR) - Ayrlego - Prize, 300 PIPs and a free small fort (activated by a micro-build) to be placed anywhere Congrats to the winners and thanks to all who entered! Category C results should be getting published soon, and let's have a good show out for Category E, folks! Keep it up!
  11. The professionals of Corrington's armed forces are closely watching the first old world conflict to be fought in the new world. On Celestia, newly appointed Governor, Major Dirk Allcock, is prepared to do his part to ensure Corrington benefits from the lessons learned by both sides in the conflict. While other Corlander officers will be tasked with gathering the Eslandolan point of view, Dirk is uniquely placed to gain lessons from Mardier. He has recently learned of the arrival in theatre of Mardierian officer with whom he studied with at the University of Bellson, one Captain Giovanni Lorenzini. Lorenzini, on completion of his studies in Corrington returned to Mardier, where he joined the Royalist Forces in the civil war. Now he has arrived on the Isle de Medio to reinforce the garrison against the Eslandolan and Garvian invaders. Wasting no time, Dirk has immediately written to his old friend, asking that he may send a man to observe the conflict from the Mardierian side. The observer he has chosen to send is a former Royal Army officer, Captain Adam Todd. Captain Todd resigned his commission to pursue a trading career in Arlinsport, but so far has not been lucky. Dirk has offered him a generous commission to go to the Isle de Medio with gifts for Captain Lorenzini, and a letter requesting observer status. Captain Todd, although not military anymore, is under strict orders to observe only, and not interfere. Major Allcock has also made very clear he is not being sent in any official capacity, rather he is being dispatched on a private expedition. On arriving, Captain Todd discovers that Captain Lorenzini has been dispatched to one of the Royal Fortresses on the Island that has come under siege by the combined Eslandolan and Garvian forces. A dedicated man, he has managed to smuggle himself inside the fortress, where he is given a warm welcome by Lorenzini, who happy allows him to attach to his company of infantry. After a few days inside the fort, the besiegers start bombarding the fort with mortars. These artillery pieces are able to lob rounds over the walls deep inside the fortress. Using incendiary and explosive shot, they are a present a nuisance to Mardierian high command, who are unable to target them with counter-battery fire due to the clever positioning of the battery behind sand dunes on a spit of land in the nearby bay. Captain Lorenzini shares his knowledge of the battery with Captain Todd. The Mardierians believe the mortar fire is unusually accurate due to the fact it is operated by a Garvian contingent. Most of the besieging army is made up of Eslandolan mercenaries, whose quality and professionalism is mixed, but generally quite poor. The Garvians, on the other hand, are professional artillerymen from the regular army. To take advantage of the terrain, the battery itself is quite exposed, and relies on a half regiment of Eslandolan mercenaries for protection. Lorenzini explains however, that Mardierian fisherman have reported that incredibly, the majority of the guard force sails back to the comforts of the main camp every night, leaving only the Garvian artillery men and a small group of Eslandolan regulars. Furthermore, the mercenaries have been observed returning later every day. Captain Todd, finding himself drawn to the Mardierian officer, and even sympathising with their cause, helps plan a daring amphibious raid on the battery, with the goal of spiking the guns to prevent their further use. Mardierian high command will only risk one half company of troops, to be led by Captain Lorenzini. Despite his orders to the contrary, Captain Todd insists on accompanying the raid. The fishermen's information proved correct, in the early dawn, the Mardierians successfully surprise the battery as it begins to prepare for the day’s bombardment. The Eslandolan guard force is reduced to a mere handful of regulars and a single officer. Charging up the beach, the yellow coats achieve complete surprise. The Garvian battery is led by a Major of artillery, Major Jan Nieuwenaar. A good, well trained officer, it was his plan to position the battery in such a cunning position, and his calculations that allow the the battery to so accurately target the fort. He attempts to rally his men, but is mortally struck very early in the battle by a musket ball to the chest. As he falls, he is caught in the arms of his sergeant. The Mardierians overwhelm the battery. The guns are spiked and the prisoners rounded up into boats and transported back to the fort before the main Eslandolan guard force returns. Although Mardierian command seems confident. Captain Todd is not so sure. Although the quality and morale of the Mardierians seems far better, he is reminded of a quote from the famous scholar of antiquity, Marcus Tullius Bricero, “The sinews of war are infinite money”. The Greenbacks are certainly not short of gold, and seem unusually focused on spending it in this war. The Mardierians, on the other hand, are still in the grips of a civil war, with limited resources to devote to what essentially for them is a side show. He will report as much to Dirk, along with his tactical observations. No need to bother the Major with full details of his participation in the planning and execution of the raid though….. Details Wow, alot of conditions for this one, so let's check them off, This entry is Pro-Mardierian Character funded the assault/defence - Yes! Beaching landing - Yes! (although in reverse) Mardierian defence - Yes! (even though they are conducting the landing, technically they are defending the fort Death of a hero and close up shot - Yep. 12. The Hall of Eslandola is the place to be. Important things are being debated and discussed. Strange things happen after the humans have left.. C&C welcome - and pictures are on flickr too.
  13. The invigorating air of the Isla de la Many Names wafted over the small fort overlooking the bay on the protected western side of the island. Birds flitted through the air, and all together it was a fine morning. Suddenly a boat full of Eslandola's finnest (the ETWC, of course!) appeared around the spit, doubling into view as the soldiers let out a valiant shout, and leapt into the water and towards the only path leading up the cliffs. This, smiled the Mardierian officer in charge, would be a golly good battle. "Light the fuse and man the cannon, mates!" Colonel Brickwall Jones was the officer commissioned to lead the beach landing section of Eslandola's attacking force for this ingenious operation. Not only was he a fine commander, he also was a very enthusiatic one and a rather good actor, so he was the perfect choice for the job. "Geronimo!!!" Colonel Brickwall Jones dashed out of the water and up towards the cliffs in front of his men, setting what would appear to be an excellent example. Unfortunately, however, the good fellow got a little too carried away with his part, and had underestimated the Mardierians' power of aiming... KaBLEWIE!!!! Well, let that be a lesson to you, folks, never get too enthusiastic when it's not really all that necessary... ...Anyways! - Shortly before, and on the other side of the cliffs... "There they go, boys, now it's our turn!" exclaimed the officer in command of the other division of the ETWC elite troops, on the other side of the rocks. For, you see, our Eslandolan's are nothing if not remarkably inventive and clever. So while the unfortunate Colonel Brickwall Jones led his distracting force down the obvious and obviously deadly approach to the fortress, the real attacking party had fought their way through the thick undergrowth of the jungle, and come up on the opposite side. True, there was no path up, but, of course, that wasn't any problem for the ETWC either. And while the Mardierians were enjoying their prospects of easy victory, that victory was rapidly slipping out of their (slippery) hands. The result? Well, before long the Eslandolan flag was flying gloriously over yet one more of the island's forts! For Eslandola! And, here's my entry for Category B of the ongoing challenge! It was a tolerably quick build, but I'm rather happy with how it turned out - jungle builds are just so much fun! The path (which extends nearly all the way up, goes off the base, and comes back in on top - unfortunately it was rather difficult to capture in the pictures!) and building such a tiny fort with sloping sides were definitely the hardest parts, but nothing to insuperable The turtle may have been my favorite part, though! And there are just a couple of closeups and figless overviews left, so I'll leave them here: The beach landing party, And the ex-Colonel Brickwall Jones: Figless: There you have it! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  14. The still waters were broken by the sharp bow of a ship, and row upon row of its bristling cannons flew past. Captain Rijsk glanced down with a smile. He liked his job immensely. And he loved his flagship. Captain Rijisk worked for the Bumbel Tuna Trading Company - or pretended he did - and was the most successful fisherman in the business. Or maybe, more like the most successful Admiral in the business... Well, as I was saying, it was a fine, bright morning as the HMS Scrumble ploughed loftily through the waters, and the crew pulled out their fishing poles and prepared for another day. The fact was, though, that Captain Rijsk didn't work for the Bumbel Tuna Trading Company, and his ship wasn't out for fish. In fact, he didn't even know if such a company existed, and no one really like Bumbel Tuna anyways. But this mission, he had totally agreed with the Mardierian Secretary of War, was a stroke of genius. It was a brilliant way to get up close to the Eslandolan settlements without attracting much attention - then, when it was the least expected, his fleet of fishermen would turn the tide of the war, for good. Suddenly the lookout cried aloud, "Sail to starboard! Can't make out it's flag, though!" "Purple and white?!" exclaimed one of the make-believe fishermen. "What kind of nation would pick purple and white for their flag?" "I'm fairly sure that's Pontilla," remarked another, staring over at the tiny the ship dancing across on the waves. "No - it's Carno for sure," countered another. But in all the commotion over the tiny boat, the unfortunate crew failed to notice the more important details of the case... For, you see, some little time ago the Garveyans had developed an ingenious contraption - or rather, they had bought it from Captain Whiffo who had come up with it, and trained a whole brigade of their soldiers until they were quite expert in its use. It was know as the Eslandolan Wooden Diving Contraption: It really was spectacular. The tendency of the wood to float kept it barely underwater with the weight of a soldier attached, but the tube extending to the top let in plenty of air, while the glass window let the attackers see exactly what was going on. But to return. One second, all was peace and quite, and everyone was taken up with the tiny boat floating past. The next, all was confusion. Up out of the water they came, dripping as bad as the tuna the ship was supposedly after. Up the fishing lines and up the stern, Up the portholes and over the side, long before anyone had time or the presence of mind to fire a single one of the cannon. But the Mardierians hadn't went make-believe fishermen for nothing. They instantly grabbed up the weapons that were never far away, and did their best to stop the attackers. But all their efforts were futile, and not even the lookout escaped... Off went the victorious Garveyans with the "fishing smack," Leaving the Mardierians behind, as they commented, With a ship of much more decent size! But Captain Rijsk was not one to give up easily, not he! "It's not the end of the day yet!" he exclaimed. "Oh dear!" returned one of the crew with a gasp. "Now you've really jinxed us!" Interior: Not much of an interior to this one, just the cabin in the stern had enough space to really do much! And a few pics of the ship by itself: The Stern: Closeup: And one final shot: And I'll leave you (yes, a great deal of pics, I know!), with a shot of the attacking Garveyans. Phew! Definitely my quickest ship to date - and yes, it definitely got kind of out of hand! It was totally supposed to be about a 2A fishing smack, but something happened somewhere... Loosely based off the HMS Interceptor, but somehow my quarterdeck ended up a fair deal higher, which forced me to change up the sail plan a tad as well. I was originally hoping to build a whole underwater section with the Garveyans cutting through the ship's hull, but time was against me, so this is it for now! Enjoy! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  15. Side: Eslandola Scene: A gnarled tree in the suburbs of Kingsport. Enter Captain Argentum and Lady Cora, daughter of a top Terraversan General. Narrator: Captain Argentum, of anti-Oleon fame, had occasion some time since to stop at the city of Kingsport. Personal affairs - trust me, you don't want to know more than that. While in Terraversa, the Captain chanced to meet Lady Cora. As far as intentions were concerned, he made up his mind right off. But the actual proposal was another matter. Captain Argentum is nothing if not original, and he wracked his brain for weeks before he decided exactly how he would pop that all important question. Captain Argentum: So - I have a question for you, but first I wanted to say really quickly - see, saying yes is so boring. Everyone says the same thing (I mean, unless they say no: but you aren't supposed to say no; I haven't got a plan B). But saying yes is... wait. Let me start again. I'll just say it fast: yes is a boring answer so I'll take silence for consent. Deal? Lady Cora: blankly But... what's the question? Narrator: In a truly impressive feat of swordsmanship, Captain Argentum drew his foil with one hand, threw a ring into the air with the other, and caught the ring on the tip of the foil dexterously. In doing so, however, he passed dangerously near to Lady Cora's nose, causing Lady Cora to promptly faint away. That however - if he had but known it - was the least of bold Captain Argentum's troubles. Because, unfortunately, Mardier isn't interested in an alliance between a Kingsport General and an Eslandian Captain. Fortunately, Eslandola is well aware that Mardier isn't interested in alliances between Kingsport and Nova Terreli. Unfortunately, Mardier knows that Eslandola is well aware that Mardier isn't interested in alliances between Kingsport and Nova Terreli. Fortunately, Eslandola's spies have informed them that Mardier knows that Eslandola is well aware that Mardier isn't interested in alliances between Kingsport and Nova Terreli. Unfortunately, Mardier's top secret agents are really up to things. They know full well that Eslandola's spies have informed them that Mardier knows that Eslandola is well aware that Mardier isn't interested in alliances between Kingsport and Nova Terreli. But fortunately, we're on top. Of course, with so many bullets flying around, there's no saying that our oblivious bride and her overly-innovative groom will make it out alive anyways... but let's hope for the best. The whole build: A few more pictures! This was a pretty fun build, by far the tallest tree of this sort that I've built yet! The lime green was kind of out on a limb but I think it worked fairly well; plays into the lighthearted comic feel I was going for with the story. Fun stuff anyhow!
  16. Captain Braunsfeld

    Captain Cookie's Delight

[The Secret of the 8 Provinces - Prelude] "Well, thanks for bringing me that exquisite Norwegian Blue. I cannot say how happy I am to be in the possession of such a fine parrot. My previous one has gone to meet its maker. How can I return your favour, Lady De Summer?" "My dear Captain, a good story would do. How, for instance, did you acquire your new ship?" "The Delight?" "Yes, Captain." "Well, Mylady, you might remember that infamous poker night in the Red Herring." "You mean the night, when that strange Marquis from Olean won such a lot of gold? I have heard rumours about that. Some people said something about the true identity of the Marquis. Like that he was actually from Mardier." "Well, it was a fantastic night because after he had won so much I challenged the Marquis for a final round..." "... it was tough. The Marquis had three of a kind - but I beat him with a full house. And as I had already won all of his gold, he offered me his ship. He said, she would be a fine, seaworthy lady, she would just need some minor repairs of the sails." "And I thought 'never look a gift horse in the mouth'." "This ship is making me immensly proud. Every detail is golden." "And the cabin is impressive too", Lady De Summer replied. "And so I named her 'Cookie's Delight'" "Fabulous, fabulous. I have another question, my dear Captain." "Out with it!" "This model of a reddish ship..." "The 8 Provinces?" "Yes, Captain, where and how did you get it?" "Oh, Mylady, that is a longer story. And more exciting." "I am all ears." [End of prelude] I am starting a new storyline here. And I managed to turn the "Silent Mary" into something more operable... C&C welcome!
  17. As part of Eslandola's military actions against Mardier Colonel Brickinson has organised an Eslandolean attack on Skaford Heights. The assault was a success - the Marderien Yellow Coats were routed. But sadly General Brickwall Jackson caught a Marderien bullet and died on the battlefield. I think I was able to cover all requirements for this part of the challenge: - beach landing - Marderien defense - death of a hero - max. 48 x 48 studs - inclusion of my sigfig And it is all in one scene! (just several pictures of it). C&C Welcome.
  18. They say a picture is worth a thousand words... and I hope it is in this case, because I really don't have time for a thousand words... Yet another enthusiastic Captain "Brickwall" has met his demise... It's probably unnecessary to say that this was just a quick build to help the team out... pretty fun anyhow, thanks for looking! Edit: For Eslandola, in case that wasn't obvious...
  19. Not too long ago, a group of prospectors took a stab at a bit of Fuerte Unido terrain on Isla de la Victoria. They found silver and were eager to commence operations... but unfortunately that wasn't so easy. With all the excitement of the Marderian war, able-bodied men were scarce in Fuerte Unido in those days. And able-brained engineers were even scarcer... so this is what happened: Run! No use leaving a nugget behind though, if it comes quickly to hand! This build pretty well exhausted my supply of tan slopes... particularly inverted slopes. I left the top open mostly to let the light in for photography... you're welcome to assume that it's a cut out, or you can assume that that's the way the actual mine is. Whatever floats your boat. Fortunately, it looks like all five miners escaped. One last shot of the interior! Well, I finally got around to this... pretty enjoyable, though just because of the fact that it's a mine shaft I feel like there's so much detail that doesn't come across in the pictures! The crack in the side technique was pretty much borrowed from Captain Genaro (although my cracks aren't nearly as big or as numerous as his... I didn't have enough inverted slopes!). Fun stuff anyhow - C&C appreciated!
  20. Maurice of Greene, Prince of Brickwall, cousin to King Fernando Augusto VII, comes from a long line of military leaders of Eslandola, dating back two and a half centuries to Eslandola’s original break from Mardier. Although the signing of the Magna Charta by the king was looked upon with shock and horror by many in the Eslandolan nobility, it did not diminish Maurice’s love of country, and he answered the call when the most recent disagreement with Mardier boiled over into an actual shooting war. Maurice had followed in his forefathers’ footsteps, studying strategy and tactics at the Terreli Military Academy. While Eslandola had not truly seen war in more than a century, and as such the opportunity for military experience greatly limited, Maurice was viewed as one of Eslandola’s greatest military minds. It was Maurice that King Fernando Augusto turned to when planning his invasion of Oleon. The politics had been disastrous for the king, but those that had seen the military plans believed the invasion would have succeeded; Maurice’s plan was brilliant, but the world would never get to see that brilliance. And so, when Eslandola was forced to respond militarily to Mardier, it turned to the Prince of Brickwall. On March 31, 617, Maurice led more than a thousand men, including the prince’s own cavalry regiment, in a beach assault against La Puebloto, Mardier’s settlement at the mouth of the Lintili River on Isla de Victoria, a.k.a. Skaford Heights. The fighting was intense, and losses mounted on both sides as Eslandola’s forces failed to break the Mardierian line. In an effort to end the standoff, Maurice led his cavalry in a charge along the beach to out-flank the defenders. Mardierian musketeers and pikemen hurriedly extended their line to the sea and opened fire. The Prince’s regiment closed with the defenders quickly, and it was mayhem as shots were fired and horses fell. Maurice continued to lead the charge into the thin Mardierian defense. The Mardierian commander could see that his line would not be enough against the cavalry regiment… …but his men held their ground and took the charge… …and one musketeer found his mark, firing a shot through Maurice’s chest, mortally wounding the prince. But the cavalry charge was successful. They broke through the line and rolled up the Mardierian rear defenses. The Eslandolan infantry then broke through Mardier’s unsupported center, and the battle was won. Maurice’s death is a terrible loss to Eslandola, but his quick thinking and valour on the field of battle were the turning point in Eslandola’s victory over Mardier that day. The Prince of Brickwall is a shining example to all Eslandolan commanders, today and in the future. Close-up of Maurice receiving the fatal shot: Additional shots: Composition was inspired by a painting of a Thirty Years War battle. The fallen horse and launched rider was fun to pose, and I was happy with how the ice cream pieces worked for smoke from the muskets. The blood spray exiting the hero's back worked out ok, but not quite what I hoped. The color gradation of the water looks off, but I was going for a painting effect where the edges are feathered out. I'm happy with the marshy look of the beach. As always, all C&C welcome.
  21. The battle of the Bridge of Arbol : Felipe de la Manzana was personally involved in the war against Mardier from the begining of the KMA operation, so it was obvious he would lead an coordinated attack from Eslandola/Garvey alliance against one of the Mardieran forts... The Fort he had to take was Arbol, a small hilly outpost blocking the Garveyan progression to the north. The first assault Garvey lead did not succeed and just managed to break the door at the Bridge head of Arbol. This was the only opportunity for Felipe to break the Mardieran defenses before they could repair the door... His General of Brigade, Brickwall Murion tryed to launch an assault but the troops were not following him as they saw the Bridge of Arbol very well protected. This is at this time Felipe de la Manzana saw reinforcements arriving by sea, in particular fresh troops and finally the artillery he asked for days ! Then he took a decision for bravery and glory ! He grabbed the Eslandolan flag, unsheathe his rapier and ran to the bridge... Sawing their leader on the bridge, all the troops finally followed him. The Mardieran defenses were strong and it is under a bullet rain the brave Eslandolan men passed the bridge, with Felipe, still carrying the flag, in front line ! The losses were high arriving at the bridge head and this is here a well adjusted shot missed Felipe just because of the sacrifice of his valourous General of Brigade Brickwall Murion who jumped in front of the bullet and saved Felipe from death. Unfortunately for the Brave General, the shot cost him his life ! Murion sacrifice was not vain, because Felipe managed to pass through the Bridge of Arbol and derouted the Mardieran Defenses with the help of the cannons that were disembarqued while he was launching the assault. The Mardieran troops had to retreat and Garvey forces passed to the north of Isla de Victoria. Thank you for watching my Challenge 5 entry. Of course, it is an entry For Eslandola ! The build is strongly inspired of the battle of the Bridge of Arcole (I change a bit the name for my story of course). This battle involved Napoleon himself launching the French assault against the Austrian troops by grabbing a flag to the bridge. His "Général de brigade" Jean-Baptiste Murion (I kept a part of the name...) Saved Napoleon's life by sacrificing himself. I tryed to stay faithfull to the illustration with my minifigs posing. Hope you'll like it ! Any comment or criticism is welcome !

Captain Ralph was a noted soldier in Eslandola's army. He had proved himself time and time again in their skirmishes against Mardier. So it was an easy choice when Eslandola's higher ups needed someone to lead the Lechuga squadron against Mardier's defenses. Leading the forces defending the Mardier line, Sinbad had once again been outfitted with new credentials that placed him at the head of a squad of Corrington soldiers who had opted to fight on behalf of Mardier. Captain Ralph had arranged to have multiple boats land at the same time allowing them to storm the palisade from different directions. He hoped that this would cause confusion for the soldiers on the wall, allowing his Lechuga squad to take out the Corries and bring down this section of wall. However, Sinbad's troops had the high ground and with such an open beach, it was easy for them to get the shots off they needed to slaughter the Eslandolian troops. Brave to the last, Captain Ralph was the first to be cut down. His troops mourned his loss and bravely fought on in his honor, but with no results except their own deaths. OoC: Special thanks to @Stash2Sixx for donating the amazing custom ESL troops and guns to be musket fodder for my MOC!
  23. Greetings, fellow BoBS'ers, I'd like to present my entry for Challenge V - Category B. Keeping the Keep El Peñón is a strategic Marderian stronghold overlooking the Bay of Good Hope. Although not a large fortress, El Peñón is nonetheless a vital part of Mardier's defenses around the town of Terra Fin Tin. Carved deep into the rocky cliffs, El Peñón is virtually impenetrable - a fact that's also known to the Eslandolian High Command - and giving them major headaches. The joint Eslandolian and Garvian assault plan provides for the surprise capture of Terra Fin Tin in order to open up a second front north of the fortress city of La Puebloto. And in order to achieve that, El Peñón had to be sacked quickly before any Marderian reinforcements would render capturing the fort impossible, ultimately putting the whole second front plan in jeopardy should Mardier's forces around Terra Fin Tin be alarmed before the actual assault was to begin. To solve this problem, one of the Eslandian elite units, the Black Bats - a veteran battalion experienced in spearhead missions, and infamous for their recklessness - was tasked with the surprise attack on El Peñón. Initially, the mission progressed as planned - the approach was not spotted by neither Marderian patrol vessels nor lookout posts along the coastline. And another pleasant surprise: when the boats landed, it became clear that the fort was undermanned. Now nothing stood in the way of a quick success. Or at least so it seemed... What they hadn't expected was the courage and relentlessness of the fort's commander. Before the perimeter guard was overrun, coronel Lorenzo Alderete stepped outside the gate in a desperate attempt to buy time, telling his men to barricade the entrance behind him. He then proceeded to furiously charge the attackers. The coronel managed to repel man after man, giving the garrison valuable time to regroup and send for reinforcements. The artillery lookout then spotted the approaching Eslandian fleet and the fort's batteries started engaging - thus completely ruining the attackers' element of surprise. Shortly before coronel Alderete was mortally wounded, he yelled out his final order to the garrison - to drop a load of explosives onto himself and the attackers. El Peñón was not to be captured! For Mardier! Some additional pics: About: Well, this started out with the simple need to come up with something for this category at all... and unfortunately, a massive builder's block. Eventually, the block loosened, and thanks to the support of @Bodi and @Captain Genaro, I even managed to put in some action. What else... well, as usual all parts except the uniforms exist... gravity is 'off'... can't think of anything else now Thanks for watching, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  24. As the Secretary of the Eslandolan Navy I have quite some control over our navy - and every now and then I also need to invest a bit into it. We're sending out our flagship, under the command of Admiral Brickwall Adurnos, out against the Marderian Scum blocking our island. Their basic defenses stand no chance against the firepower of a ship of the line! Off course we can also transport lots of troops to land them there. Sadly, the landing didn't go quite as planned... View from on top: And the end of our dear Admiral Brickwall Adurnos: (quick note: I'm quite short on time this month, so excuse the little time spent on taking pictures. If interest is there I can retake them in about a week) (Also, if anyone is interested in a picture of all the guys here - click here) (Lastly, this is well within the size limit at 16x96 = 1536 with 48x48 = 2304)
  25. It are busy times for Lord Maximilian Damaximus. Given the rank of Commodore, he was in charge of hunting down the blockaders with a fleet of 16 (!) vessels in order to clean the area around Isla de la Medio. On his way to Trador, he stopped at the most Southern part of Isla de la Medio so the troops he transported could disembark. They knew there was a wooden pallisade along the coast and that resistance would be fierce. And as the cannons on the mainland had a longer reach than those on the vessels, the fleet could not simply provide the necessary firepower. Luckily the rowboats were provided of some mini-cannons. Corporal Brickwall Princeton was very eager to revenge the death of his good friend Brickwall Jackson. He just finished his heroic speech when a bullet hit his arm. Unlucky for our hero, there are crocodiles in the water. Corporal Brickwall Princeton didn't die directly from a Mardierian bullet, but his death wasn't less idiotic (and a bit more painfull). Anyway, I am sure another Brickwall will raise up soon for another revenge! Meanwhile General Samu Whitedragon rallied the forces. Some Eslandolan soldiers were very eager... Meanwhile the atmosphere in the Mardierian camp was not so optimal. After his failed mission protecting the Mardierian princess, the Royal Mardier Guard is now captain of a platoon on a remote beach. He still is wearing his costume though... A lot of piew piew piew and kaboom later, the Eslandolan forces secured the area. Go Eslandola!!! -- Thanks for watching, C&C always welcome!
