    Show me YOUR LEGO Town!

Simply put, like many of those showing off topics, I thought it'd be a great idea to do that for everyone's individual LEGO towns if they have any, especially seeing as I can't seem to find that many in this sub-forum. I'm currently working on my own town, and it encompasses mostly Creator houses and City 8x16 buildings. How about yours?

    what makes a modular?

okay, im designing my first modular building, a comic shop/arcade with a classic space theme to it. HOWEVER, having never had the money for a modular, i have NO IDEA what it is that makes them have that feeling of quality and all of that. like, i have the proportions down, and the fact that it should be able to split into 3 levels, each one shorter than the last, but other than that im pretty much lost. in short, does anyone here who builds modulars have any tips or advice for a newbie?
  3. Hello, how are you? I'm going to tell you something, the past Metropolitan bank was a disaster because I ran out bricks in the half of the 2nd floor. so I've destroyed it the images of the 1st floor those where the images But I've built a new bank in a 16X32 baseplate and the bricks didn't ended I only have to take and upload the images
  4. Hi everyone! I'd like to present my latest modular building, the "Blooming Blossoms". The building is named after the florist on the ground floor. I had a lot of fun with the florist. It's no secret that I love flowers, but this is the first time I've actually gotten around to doing florist. It feels like this one has been on my "to do" list forever! The florist has extended with a little garden room to house the exotic plants that need a little more sunlight and warmth. The first floor of the apartment has a little kitchen, eating area and comfy sofa. No TV - hence, the reading lamp behind the sofa. The upper floor has a small bed and writing desk, as well as a bathroom with old-fashioned chain flush toilet. More images on flickr! Thanks for looking. C&C welcome!
  5. Hi everyone! I'd like to share my latest modular building, the Sugar & Spice. It's another New York inspired building, with a cupcake shop on the ground floor and apartment upstairs. Here's a view of the overall building: The cupcake shop: The first floor of the apartment, with the kitchen and lounge room: And the upper floor with the bedroom and bathroom: The artwork above the bed was made by my 6.y.o. daughter. I promised her some time ago that I would find a way to incorporate it into one of my modular buildings. The yellow ladder / stairs lead to the rooftop garden, accessed by the world's most dangerous hatch: This building was started at the same time as the Black Velvet, as I had one idea for the shop windows, but two different visions for where I wanted the building as a whole to go - one being the darker Black Velvet, the other being the more light and airy Sugar & Spice. You can play spot the difference on the ground floor facade in the image below, which shows the Sugar & Spice between the Black Velvet (left) and my first New York style building, the Coveted Clutch, on the right. More images available on flickr. C&C welcome!
  6. This is my first time to do an MOC modular building, and it is a chance for me to put my profession into practice in the brick city! (I am working as an architect) There is still a lot of room for improvement and detail refinement, but at least the basic shape is all here. Yes, this is a bank, the Lego Bank of the Golden Scorpion. Finally, the Lego citizens can get their money here for shopping at the Grand Emporium and watching movies at the Palace Cinema! And yes, finally my street is starting to look different than the others! Overall view, the workers are cleaning up the place and preparing to get off work... The main entrance has two doors, left and right, separated by a little pond. The middle fountain is a mushroom jet, and water at the entrance? It is all about feng shui! (in Chinese feng shui, flowing water means money!) The front elevation is decorated with a lot of golden pieces, and the scorpion logo is right there too. It has a golden and silver on its left and right sides respectively, symbolizing trading and monetary matters. Let's talk a look at the first floor. Instead of making the whole floor removable, I retain the front facade of the 1st floor to the G/F, as a little test to see if this section cut is more useful or interesting... G/F . Basic Services (card return, passbook check, ATM, appointment booking...) The ground floor has a small counter for some basic and easy services. A guard is at the door, while you can see the ATM on the left. On the right is a lift to other floors, and it is a bubble lift! (glass lift) Another angle of the floor. A staff is handing a new credit card to the client... Let's have a ride on the lift to the next floor! 1/F Bank Vault The bank vault storing the most valuable things is located on the 1st floor. Today some green money cases are delivered and a staff is watching. Well, sounds like there are enough gold bars to buy the new Lone Ranger Lego sets coming this summer! 2/F Premium / Advance Services The topmost floor is for advance banking services, where you can find a bigger counter (I should put more staff in). The table on the left allows customers to talk to staff on more serious matters like setting up new accounts, insurance policies or getting more information on new saving plans. There are also seats for customers to wait during busy hours. Another angle. The call button of the lift is not on the wall but on a pedestal. This guy at the counter is taking out quite some money from his account! There is nothing on the roof for security reasons. You know people can go to another building from one roof to another in the modular building series, right? It is too easy! So here, there is nothing but a roof with security wire beneath. There is a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) machine but again, it is well secured with alarm system linked to the police station. I guess the crooks cannot get into this bank that easy like in the set 3661! Here is what it is like to be next to the Town Hall! :) Oh, the money transport truck has just arrived! Hope you enjoy it! The bank starts running this Monday! Thanks!

    "Fish" Restaurant

Hello everybody, i'm now presenting you the MOC modular building "Fish Restaurant" It´s four stories high, and the pinnacle is tallest than the billboard of the Grand Emporium It´s my very first MOC I upload to this forum and the hole internet, it isn't my best but here it is the front of the building the man is fixing the sign, I don't trust on that doctor ok, now the first floor, which is a tunnel and the kitchen of the restaurant this tunnel will take to the back of the building, where the stairs are and the kitchen, as you can see, there isn't a fridge, but here is a stove, and a coffee server (now with chocolate and capuccino) I wonder how they do to mantain the food fresh? and finally the stairs Now, the second floor, which is the dinning room of the restaurant And they have a special guest: Patrick Star the doors are sliding doors Closed Open And the stairs And now the third floor, which is the bar It's a sports bar, perhaps they don't have a TV on this floor there is a special door in the bar, i hope you noted it, it's at the end of the bar at the principal avenue side and how to forget the stairs the last but not less important, the fourth floor, which is an apartment In the interior we have a clock, a TV, a glass table, one sofa, one couch (which i was based on another MOC i've founded here), a toilet, a bed, and a bicycle (yes, how they had lifted up here?) Can you found them all? and the back balcony (its on the third floor, don't forget it) and the pinnacle, at the top it's the blue diamond, placed at the center of the X & Z dimentions of the building (wide & long) and is the tallest point of my city Well, that was all, but if you want to watch more visit the next page: http://www.flickr.co.../119427194@N07/ See you later
  8. Hi there, this is a MOC modular building with a different approach. But first, a little background: After I came out of my Dark Ages roughly a year ago, I mainly started doing two things - building classic space sets, and getting into the official modular buildings (I now have four and counting). I once built a MOD of the Ice Planet Deep Freeze Defender, but up until now, I never built a real, aspiring MOC. I'm lucky to still have all my old Lego from when I was a kid, a lot of which was handed down from our old neighbour, so I ended up with a nice collection of vintage parts and sets, all of them somewhere between 20 and 40 years old. I also bought a couple of bulk lots from Ebay with more stuff from the 80ies/early 90ies, with the goal to get more classic space stuff. Building the official modulars and also seeing the amazing MOCs posted here, I naturally got itchy and wanted to create my own modular MOC. The only downside was, apart from the pieces from the 4 modulars I own, I don't have any modern bricks. And building something in LDD and then buying the necessary bricks sounded nice, but I had to find out that I do not have the patience to design anything worthwhile in LDD. So I decided to try to build a modular MOC using just the old vintage pieces I already have in abundance. Here are the two most challenging problems I faced building this: Colors: The 80ies and early 90ies were the time of black, white, yellow, blue, red and grey, with green and brown just starting to make appearances (I have very, very few pieces in those two colors). So I had to find a color scheme with those colors that would work. I decided on white and black, with some red detailing. SNOT: I definately wanted to do some SNOT building in my modular. However this is not too easy as a lot of the useful pieces that we have nowadays were simply not available back then. The only really useful SNOT pieces were the classic headlight brick, the old bracket (http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3956) and the hinge brick (http://www.bricklink...m.asp?P=3937c01). Against my original intent I ended up doing one bricklink order after all, but it was mainly for the dark grey and light grey tiles used on the pavement and on top of each module. But, enough babble, here's the Hat Shop - my first MOC since coming out of my Dark Ages I took some inspiration from the Pet Shop, mainly in how the shop sign is built (though mine is built slightly differently) and the general floor plan inside. Ground floor detail. First floor (european counting ) detail. The classic windows on the left and right are built in sideways using several headlight bricks. As a sideeffect, the middle window got drapes. The whole construction is very sturdy and stable . Top floor detail. Keeping with the tradition of some of the official modulars, the back is rather plain. I used old doors from the H0 scale days as windows, which works rather well, I think. Inside the Hat Shop. As I already mentioned, this building uses old bricks, a lot of them from my childhood. While I sorted out any really damaged bricks (teeth marks, sticker residue and the like), I got pretty much every level of yellowing on the white bricks. I tried to use the yellowed one on the side of the building, where they won't be visible when its on display with the other modulars, and the white ones for the front & back facades. In this picture you can see that the store sign is built similar to, but not exactly like the one in the Pet Shop. Moving up to the second floor. It hold a spacious kitchen with a small kitchen table. The blue and grey color scheme of the kitchen gives it a nice, Spacey feel...kinda Classic, really... . . . Uh-oh... Moving up to the upper floor. It holds a combined living and bedroom with a TV, sofa and sofa table, bed, chest, some slightly odd pictures on the wall and a parrot. Another detail shot of the roof. The greebling atop the windows was the last thing I built last night, I had a simpler design of the facade at first, but it didn't look right. Here's some shots with the official modulars. I think my Hat Shop fits in surprisingly well . The difference between the old and new greys. I hope you enjoyed my MOC, and look forward to reading your comments Cheers, Roger

    MOC Lego Store and Appartment

I'd like to share my latest modular building. This one was inspired by Lego Brand Retail Store. On the ground floor, there's a Lego store. I included the dragon which I've seen in some stores. The walls would be too bare without decorations, and the dragon also fills the space a bit. And there are some happy customers leaving the store with full bags. At the back of the store is a PaB wall. The store is small, so two employees can manage all the work. I include displays as seen in the stores. The round displays only have a coloured background, while in the ''windows'' there a micro scale versions of some sets. The displays from left to right include the Death star, Creator Family house and the Blue Roadster, Olivia's house and the Tower of Orthanc. The apartment above the store is an open-floor type. The living room and the kitchen are separated only by different floor designs. The only closed room on this floor is the bathroom with shower, toilet and sink with mirror cabinet. On the second floor, there's a bedroom with a working area and a small terrace. I think all my MOCed modulars include bookshelves, and this one is no exception. The shelves in the middle of the floor are dividing the room in two parts, one is for work, and the other one is for resting. A street view with 16-wide apartment buildings. More photos can be found on my Flickr.
  10. I wanted to try creating a modular in LDD (don't really have the pieces to make it any other way, but that will hopefully change soon). I thought a bakery would be fun to try. I couldn't figure out a way to populate the shelving with bread/pies/pretzels/croissants in LDD, just imagine that it's there :) From the front: From the back: Top view: With the storefront hidden to see more detail: Closer in on the oven in back: And lastly, a detail shot of how the bakery shelving works: I might still add some sidewalk, and maybe a bench or a light out front. We'll see :)
  11. I'm in need of advice (hopefully this is in the right place). My wife and I are starting our own modular city -- right now it's a little more than a colony, with four lego figures and a covered wagon (you get the idea) -- and have been looking at purchasing a few instructions. I bought the Video Game Shop instructions from Brick Builders Pro (http://www.brickbuilderspro.com/video-game-shop-pdf-instructions/), and my better half has been crawling Amazon looking for others. She found a few by the same guy, and has her heart set on this one: http://www.amazon.com/Build-Cute-Cream-Shop-ebook/dp/B007C4WJOM/ I checked the guy's website, and he doesn't sell this through there anymore (or any of the other 6 he has listed on Amazon -- Mellow Yellow Jazz Club, Fresh Flower Shop, Kelly Green Deli, The Brick Town House, and the Seafood Cafe). Amazon sells these as Kindle books, which I could check out using their Lending Library.. If I owned a Kindle. :P Has anyone checked any of these instructions out? Are they pretty much the same as his Game Shop? It's frustrating not being able to see them before I buy them, as Amazon has the first six pages as a preview, as opposed to the center of the instructions where you get a good bead on what's going on. Any and all input welcome. Should I just buy these and hope for the best? Or is there somewhere else I should be looking to purchase similar instructions?

    MedCo Clinic

flickr I have a hunch I'm pushing the limits on tastefulness of color combinations with this creation, but the intent was to blend alternate hues of Lego's staple hospital colors, red and white. And so without further ado, here's my attempt at a hospital in modular building scale, presented in perhaps not-so-glorious penicillin white, surgeon blue, and blood red: Front: Rear: Interior: Emergency: Recovery: Until next time~

    MOC - Clothing shop

After getting a ton of etched column bricks at the local pick a brick wall, I decided to use lots of them in a modular building of a clothing store. Lets start with the bottom floor: On the first floor, there is a selection of shirts and a till so you can pay for your items. Lets move onto the second floor. On the second floor there is a selection of trousers and two changing rooms to try on your purchases. The changing room curtains were made with some fabric cut to the correct size. Lets move on to the top floor of the shop. On the top floor, there are some storage crates and an unassembled mannequin waiting to be displayed in the window. And thats it! Enjoy!
  14. Yet Again I sadly only have the name! I might get the set # and price soon! So let the discussion begin!.....................
  15. Hi! I'd like to present my latest MOC modular building, which I've called Black Velvet, after the cafe found on the ground floor. It's inspired by New York buildings. The owner has converted the space in the back alley into a little courtyard for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city while they enjoy their coffee. The first and second floor houses an accountant office, with the reception and main meeting room on the first floor and the staff offices on the second floor. More images available on flickr. Thanks for looking. C&C welcome!

    MOD/MOC: Emma's Place

I've been trying to bring some sense of order and control to my daughter's Friends layout as it is slowly taking over the dining room table, leaving me with little space for my own buildings. So, I've started "modularising" the sets into buildings to allow the layout to expand upwards instead of outwards. The latest is "Emma's place" which houses three sets featuring Emma - the beauty parlour, fashion design studio and karate class. This one was a collaborative effort with my daughter. Hence the random yellow tiles to finish off the first floor and total lack of floor tiles! (MOD/MOC) Emma's Place (MOD/MOC) Emma's Place - Beauty Parlour (MOD/MOC) Emma's Place - Design Studio (MOD/MOC) Emma's Place - Karate Class There are a few more angles on flickr. Next up is Andrea's place, which will be finished once as I get my hands on the new bedroom set.

    MOC Orange House

Hey all. I've been on a bit of a building spree lately. I had a lot of fun with the SNOT work on this build, both on the ground floor and the roof (also a bit in the bathroom). I spent some time furnishing the interior which led me to a new realization. I had used white bricks for the side walls of this modular in order to save my orange bricks for furture projects. This works well on the outside, but when I did the interior I had some awkward rooms with one white wall and one orange wall. This is something I'll try to avoid in the future. Also... furnishing the inside sure does a number on my supply of tile bricks. Anyway, here we go! More pics here: http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream C&C welcome! Thanks for looking
  19. Hi everyone! Having a day of (literally) nothing needing to get done, I decided to take advantage of the time and build myself a new modular building. I've incorporated some design inspiration from the Fire Brigade set. As a matter of fact, this building is made exclusively of parts from the Fire Brigade (save for the masonry [brick] bricks). So far this is only one floor. I'm not sure how high I will make it, but this is what I have for the time being: There is no interior. I don't do interiors. Locutis

    MOD from Elladora's Sweet Shop

Wel time to introduce to you the last building in my town (for now, there will be more). If you want to learn some skills, you can either begin with some easy ones, or you can try to tackle a realy tough one. I tried to doe the last. As a novice builder of Modular Buildings i saw Jasper Joppe Geers lovely Elladora's Sweet Shop on this forum. I was swept away by the skills used in this building. The outside and the inside were (are) real masterpieces in my eyes. I studied the pictures Jasper made very carefully and one by one things began to fell in it's place. I started to copy this, but decided to change te colors. The dark purple Jaser used was very hard to come by and very expensive. Red i had in plenty, so the choise was quickly made. of all my builds, MOD and MOC, this one was te hardest and too the longest. This is the only building i didn't change all that much, just the inside of the second and third floor, plus the roof part. Here is the result front and back I changed the street scene.Made it a little more compatteble for my town. (the lampposts an trees are not shown. The are situated on the roadplates in front and on the side of the building. As shown in my introduction te Bricksterdam) All parts side by side The gound floor i left almost the same, including the interior. The were simply perfect. The outside of the second floor was left almost unchanged, but the interior was completely overhauled. With the third floor i did the same, but here the are some more changes on the outside. The roofpart i changed the most. It was great recreating Jaspers building. It fits beatifuly in my town. I learned so much. Thanks for the inspiration. Many of you here on this Forum have ben an inspiration to me and thanks to you all i can now create My Own Creations. KEEP ON INSPIRING US BEGINNERS, PLEASE. Jasper, i hope you like the way i recreated your building and the changes i made. Of course are all your comments welcome.

    MOD Yellow Flower Shop

Hello Again. This is the next modular Building i would like to introduce to you. Completely unskilled in the art of MOC and Modular Building is started to Copy other MOC's. I searched the Internet and found serveral buildings i liked. Over the years i had bought a lot of models, town, trains, castle and space. I begun the make good use of these bricks, but did not had the new colors. I had a lot of white, black, light grey, yellow and blue. I found a yellow and white house, that was very pleasing to the eye and begun learning the skills needed to build a building like this. I actualy begun building three one shortly after the other, The brown cafe, elladora's sweat shop and the flower shop. Elladora's sweet shop will be the last (for now) building is would like to introduce to you. It was fun to be building these models. I begun using my own ideas by changing little things. This building and Elladora's sweet shop were the models i changed less. The interior however i did change in this model. The interior of the original, i believe is was made by Marcos Bessa, was a Green Grocer. I already had the original Green Grocer and wanted an other shop in my tow. I had a lot of flower stems and so the desicion was easely made, i would make a flower shop. I put minifigs on the pavement and created my own interior. In the back of the shop there is a Green House. And a Shed The second floor is a apartment The last floor is a small attic and a patio. It was fun recreating this building from floor to floor. I made the significant change in the top floor. There was a part there, a clock, i could not find anywhere, so i placed an extra window, with worked very well. I liked making the little changes and was pleased with the result. I hope the original builder of this model, a real artist in my opinion, likes to see his creation being made by an other builder. It realy brightens up my town.
  23. On the way to an update on Bricksterdam i would like to introduce to you a new MOC. It is a 16x32 modular Building in CC style. Stationstraat is the road in front of the Railway Station (a future model based upon the Metro Station). The Grand Emporium is on one side of J.Berard Avenue and Elladora's Candy Shop (by J.J.Geers) on the other. Next to this is the Ice Cream Parlor. The Back of the building The ground floor is the Ice Cream Parlor. Behind the shop is the stair to the first floor. The First floor is the apartment of the owner of the Parlor. The attic is the bedroom. Finely the roof. And here is my Ice Cream Parlor on Station Straat
  24. After i found the Modulars from Lego an saw the great MOC´s that were made in this area, i wanted to try and work on my skils in building these houses. I saw a building made by i think Marcos Bessa. I was a Pizza Restaurant, but wasn´t 32x32. It was somewhat smaller. I enlarged it with a door and a stair to the next floor, in the back i included a kitchen. The result was as follows. the back side of the building. I loved the idea of making it a Brown Cafe.By that time i was already playing with the idea of making an Modular City Corner. Not so much details there yet, Both other floors are still without interior, only a fireplace. To enlarge this floor i put in an extra window and remodeled the balcony. The attic And the roof part What attracted me to this building was the details on the front side of the building and the use of light gray brick. I had u ton of these bricks en could make the to good use there. The result was very pleasing to me and i hope you will like it to. Along the way i will include an enterior on both upper floors. Perhaps i will try and make seperate rooms, as is the fashion in these kind of buildings these days. One must follow good developments.
