CDC1 Tale: The Hiding of the Druid Shrine
mrcp6d replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yup. Immersive builds in general do that to you, and to your bank account! Despite your pain here, this came out absolutely fantastically. (Which is probably why a lot of us really like these "100% Lego" presentations!) The scale of this build and the lighting really create an epic movie-like vibe. -
You've got a great ability to convey a sense of scale with your MOCs and that definitely comes through here. Great work, love the lighting effects too!

This is a really beautiful build Ayrlego! The color scheme here is great, and the inset wood paneling is a lovely little bit of detailing.

I finally got some standalone pics taken of the beastie! Thanks Grover! Honestly the trees came out a little more "sparse" than I really wanted, probably should have added at least another set of branches to each of them. Inspiration on the legs came from this and probably some others' usage of those modified 2x2 plates in other animals and mechs over the years. I knew the head was going to be big and heavy, so I tried to keep the neck short. I lost some clutch power in those joints though and so the stream of fire was actually holding the dragon upright for photography here! Glad you liked this one! Hopefully one of us wins this CCC category if the results are ever posted. Lancelot might help here! Thanks SK! It was definitely a focus of mine to get the slopes all going in the same direction here. I thought it would look good here since the MOC itself is pretty long and give a sense of windblown snow rather than a haphazard pile of white Lego. Therefore, I'm glad this was a recognized highlight for you! Thanks socalbricks!

Heck of an MOC Ecc! Loving all the interiors, but your detailing on the exteriors and blending of the styles there is really great.

Well, this is exciting! Hard to believe it's been 10 years though. I feel old all of a sudden. -
This is a really great little house!
-
Thanks folks! Yes, the dragon is quite articulated; I need to get some pictures posted of it separate from the dio this week.

A free build from me: -
This is a potentially cool idea really. Lower each full revolution a plate as you go towards the center and see what happens.

Stunning work here John! This is one of those MOCs that's deceptively enormous. You filled the acreage will a great amount of detail too and the colors all look nice together; however, I can't square the fall foliage on the trees with the lime green grass.

It took me a while to appreciate the sand blue of the central tower, but I quite like it as a low-key accent/change of pace from the usual. The little scenes of minifigs scattered throughout are lovely and the full interior is just awesome. Great, inspiring work once again Ecc!

The tunnel looks really cool here and the lighting within it looks fantastic. -
The tower is a strong section of this build for me and I love the flipper roof technique--eventually I'll have enough flippers to try it myself! I think the hap hazard vegetation detracts some from this MOC though. I wonder what it would look like if you only used the flower stem piece, or if you didn't use any of the flower stem pieces.

Crisp build Kai. Those torsos work really well to get some subtle angles into the the timber framing.
-
Somehow I haven't posted in this thread until now! I certainly like the progress so far. I noted how well you've used the various tiles as carved wood but those horn torches are a great idea too.

I saw this and immediately thought "dang! we're building the same same thing!" Seriously though, this is well executed. The head of this beast is amazing and locating the action in swamp was a great idea with excellent landscaping to follow it through. Love that fire effect near the shield, but I wish it was thicker in the middle where the bar piece is. Dunno about the tree either, shape is great but the lack of texture in the trunk kind of conflicts with the nicely detailed & textured landscaping everywhere else. Good luck in competition!

Holy crap, I totally missed this when you posted this. The statue is just soooo good! Definitely reminds me of those two big statues in TLotRs Fellowship movie on either side of the river. Awesome, awesome shaping.

Ugh! I'm jealous of y'all with PaB walls stocked with nice pieces. I went to one over winter holiday and they had nothing worth asking them to scoop into a cup. I like this MOC though. Nice color choices and very effective usages of your PaB haul!

Looks like you lit the interior by removing the roof for the close-in shot? Nice idea if so. Solid MOC here again jtooker! You really cranked these out for the CCC this year.
-
You've gone a little bit crazy lately with color choices SK, but I like it! I also like how the effect created by the rounded plates around the door is echoed by a similar effect with those slope pieces in the roofed section.

Every builder ought to have this in their favorites really. Nice to be reminded what you can do with only the most basic elements and some talent for picking colors. Awesome work on this trophy, and a (very) belated thank you for running the Joust!

I knew this MOC was going to be epic based on your WIP posts over on Discord of the spider, but you also totally nailed the landscaping/foliage here. Really great work with the 3-leaf part and also with keeping things under control enough to not have the dio get away from you from a composition stance.

Great series. For me, I like the sawmill build best overall--I'm impressed by how much you crammed into that footprint in that one, but the workshop is a close 2nd.
