  1. Lately, there have been surfacing some great mini models here. Please take your time to accept my micro (not just mini!) models here as well. Because finally, after half a year of sweating, I can proudly present these micro ships to you . I've been wanting to make these guys ever since my A-wing, to expand my lines of micro SW ships. But it didn"t proove to be easy. [MOC] micro B-wing & Y-wing by Bert.VR, on Flickr I had already built a Y-wing with 5 pieces, but didn't consider that as what I really wanted . So I sat down again to play with all kinds of pieces. The idea of using Technic axles for the columns was what sparked the Y-wing. It also offered a chance to use my favorite part, the wrench. It may look a bit skinny, but at least a sence of greebling is there. The hardest part was the head of the fighter. I really wanted that sloping form, and it had to be thicker than the body (that wonderful SNOT brick). I came up with the frogman's foot inserted in a claw piece. And tada, a 15 part Y-wing is born (16 parts if you would like to add a minifig hand on top to simulate a cannon)! In my opinion, it's much better than the version from the advent calendar... [MOC] micro B-wing & Y-wing by Bert.VR, on Flickr A B-wing had never been featured in the advent calendar (the scale I aim for), and pretty soon I discovered why. To make it look good in this scale, it has to be as thin as a single plate, and studs would completely ruin the model . So I was left with all those specialty pieces. I scrolled through the whole part inventory of LDD multiple times, only to find nothing. The B-wing remained unbuilt for several months. Do you know that feeling when after a very long time, you finally find what you are looking for? Well, imagine the feeling I experienced when, completely out of the blue, I stumbled across THE piece for my B-wing . Recognized it already? The piece that makes the central wing of the B-wing is... It had everything (apart from not being produced in grey) to make my B-wing look good. Some claw pieces, and my favorite wrench part soon snapped into place. The wings were a bit tricky, but I'm satisfied with the minifig neck pieces. The hole in it can be assumed to be that logo on the wings. They're not foldable, but can be swapped out easily with normal 1x1 plates to go to landing mode. The B-wing is my smallest model yet, with only 8 (!) pieces . I hope you can enjoy it nonetheless. It's not buildable in real life, unless you want to paint a Buzz wing. The Y-wing is buildable (hurray!), if you go with regular yellow instead of cool yellow, and pick the technic axles in dark grey. so in fact, you could put it next to my x-wing, or any other micro's you might have. [MOC] micro B-wing & Y-wing - exploded by Bert.VR, on Flickr I hope you like it. Comments are always welcome, as well as suggestions for further micro's. Because Size matters not. Judge me by my size, do you ?
  2. I know what model you're reffering to, and your version looks great, I must say. The great diversity of buildings (in such a small space!) give it a real city feel, although the buildings could be squashed together a bit more. I also like what looks like walkways or landing platforms, so it's really stimulating imagination. If you plan to take this further, be sure to make enough contrasting buildings, in shape and color, so that it doesn't become one big mess of bricks, but a descernable city. Oh, and you know Trantor too! But to me, this is looking more like Dubai two hunderd years in the future...
  3. That's a beautiful pile of junk! It looks just great and chaotic, while the fence keeps it from infecting the whole scene, so you still end up with a clean build. Well done! I also like how that body is just dumped there, and actually blends quite good with all the rubbish. That color scheme works here. That gap in the railway is still a bit disturbing though. A 1x1 plate at a an angle would look better here. On the other hand, it's a junkyard, so things don't have to look tidy... So maybe just wreck that railway some more instead, or add some irregularity to the ground, although it's barely visible. I really like the development of this story and of your builds. Keep it up!

    [MOC] Backhoe

Great stuff! This is a detailed and complex model indeed. In fact, it's one of those builds I've no idea of how it would stay together, but find utterly appealing nonetheless. The shapes are perfect, and I'm especially a fan of the pistons. Apart from all the flex tubes, it's nice to see you used some other parts like the harpoon gun as well. The stabilasors are really neat. Of course, those seats in the bucket are a nice touch as well. Really nice model, and some great photography too. Could we get a look at the back side of this beauty? I'm curious how you've done the pistons there... Woth these deailed builds, you can expect anything!
  5. Great beginning! The bridge looks very recognizable with all those smooth shapes. You've integrated those 'windows' very well in your build. The very modest greebling is working for me too. Seeing this grow would be amazing. i'm eagerly awaiting that lower level and those elevators. And who knows... maybe one of those big but lovely radar orbs on top...
  6. Another amazing model! It's unbelievable how you've merged functionality and aesthetics in one terrific build. The motion looks realistic, and that mechanism is just elegant. I have no idea how you got the idea for that, since it's completely different from the mechanisms Da Vinci designed for these kind of flying machines, if I remember correctly. Also, it looks really great. The Technic is nicely tucked away in the beautiful model. It's also ineresting you didn't use any flex tubing. So no matter how you look at this, it's a wonderful model, and the features you've added tale it to the next level. The only thing you could possibly add, would be some steering flaps or so. Then that lovely person would know where to go. Congratulations!
  7. I recieved a funky box with a mathematical chicken genious on it yesterday. It turned out to contain the precioussss minifigs (prize A). They arrived sooner then I thought (long live the EU!), and this night they have been glowing in the dark in my room. One little problem though. With the four minifigs, I got 8 capes... I don't hope some one is missing some! Thanks a lot once more. They're just in time to celebrate the end of the exams!
  8. I'm not a mecha specialist, but maybe you could try something different for the legs. Maybe just plain wheels or even rocket boosters would do the trick. Or go with very skinny legs (it already looks very top-heavy, so skinny legs would provide a nice contrast, but would proably give some stability issues)... No matter what, i think that mech alreday looks really great!
  9. This beautiful build caught me off guard! Those parts you used... I don't know how you do that! This is pretty much the most organic ship I've ever seen. Those shapes are fabulous (I don't recognize the dark brown big cockpit pieces in the back, though), en flow seamlessly together. You've succeeded in making this hotchpotch of parts into a coherent and beautiful ship. the color scheme really helps there. The technical details are really well done. It's especially amazing how you've decorated the inside of the tails. That must have been hard without any studs to work on. As for that cockpit, I'm surprised you used the older version of the TIE canopy. The nex one doesn't have those blocky features, and would make it look beter. Maybe a custom solution would be even beter. A regular bulbous cockpit combined with brown levers and flex hoses would make it look even better, I presume. Anyway, I find these "Dinosaurs on a spaceship" really succeeded. Are there more coming up, or was this a one-time-crazy-idea?
  10. It looks really good that way. The changes you've made to make all parts available aren't that noticable, and the new guns look very accurate. The only thing I can think of to give it a red tip, woud be to use flex hosing and a flick fire topping (that round red thing with a bar sticking out of it), or sliding red felx tube (if that even exists) over the bar, or using a technic bush... Anyway, that's just a minor problem to me. But I do find it amazing to see you keeping improving this model (this is like the tenth edition, isn't it?)
  11. That's very nice! You've used some beautiful techniques (my compliments on those inverted cheese slopes) to create a wonderful building. It looks deciptivly simple, but a closer study reveals that it's more like an elegant complexity. I just adore that. My only remark would be that the ground is a little inconsistent. You have those 2x2 tiles all over the place, creating a nice effect, and then that's broken up with that big flat surface of the slope. Maybe you can use the same 2x2 tiles at an angle to make it consistent. Or you could SNOT the whole floor to make it look flat. My compliments and congratulations though, for creating this wonderful building. BTW, that building looks very familiar to me... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_aan_de_Stroom It isn't from the same architect however...
  12. That's very strange indeed... They are listed in the normal LDD mode, but have never been released... The only thing you can do now, is to find replacements. The technic beam is available in light grey, so that would still be suitable. You can always try to replace the 2x2 plates with 2x2 radar dishes. The dark red ones maybe could be replaced with a 2x2 round brick, that does appear in dark red. If that flick missile wouldn't be black but light grey, it wouldn't bother me, I think...
  13. What a brilliant train! The details are very well done and quite believable. Especially all the valves on top look really good. The strings are superb as well. I even like the exposed studs here and there. They give it quite an authentic feel, both as locomotive as Lego model. Is there a reason that coal tender is a bit flat, because I find that a little distracting next to that beautiful and detailed loc. Congratulations, and do keep building. I see that this isn't your first fantastic train MOC...
  14. It's amazing how you've succeeded in recreating those slim lines. Bricks or plates would've totally destroyed the thin look, so I imagine you had a hard time putting everything together. But to what a result! The bits hanging from the platform have to be my favorite details. I can understand why you've made the tree blocky, but still somerhing looks of to me. Maybe it is the foliage that grows on those way to thick trunks. Maybe splitting those into smaller, slimmer branches would be nice. If you'd put the foliage on those, I think it would already look more natural and in harmony with the architecture. Please keep returning to Middle-Earth, as you builds are always really nice.
  15. This is pretty unique. I've seldom seen such an extended series of high quality builds. You succeeded in giving each TIE its own look and feel, while still keeping it a TIE. It's great to see you didn't take a lot of shortcuts and made every iteration like it was your first one. I highly applaud this. The result is quite stunning. All of these models are beautifully shaped, and there are some really nice details. Here are still a few details that bother me however. Like the fact the regular TIE (and all models based on it) lacks a top hatch with the distinctive patern on it. The greebles on the wings seem to prominent to me, and the pylons do not seem very accurate. Also, the top of the tubes of models like the TIE bomber seem quite bland. Isn't there supposed to be any detailing on those? Also, I think you're right about your cockpits not being round enough. But I've been working on a UCS TIE fighter myself, and have experienced how hard it is to get it right. That's why I appreciate these models even more. I congratulate you on all of them. Also, I'm very curious about what you will tackle next. I don't suppose there are any TIE's left?
  16. It looks pretty nice, but it misses something... distinctive. As was the case with the current set of the battle beween Dooku and Yoda, it misses something to really catch the eye. My suggestion would be to add one of those giant buckets. That would add a lot of play value at once. As for play value, maybe it would be fun to have a little mechanism that operates that stamping machine. You already added a pin that you can pull away to let it fall. Maybe you could transform this into a knob you can turn, so that the machine would make a continuous up and down motion. That would really add the factory feel. I really like the base. Some random gears would be nice though. All in all, I still think this is an idea with some potential. I see kids having a lot of fun with this one!
  17. A major set we're missing would be an UCS version of the TIE-fighter. that one is waaaay overdue. Also, one of those tiny ships you can see flying around Coruscant in the end scene of ep VI would be nice to me.
  18. It looks great already. But maybe you can solve two problems at once. Try moving the laser guns to the underside of the wings (but then, those missiles would have to bo...), and closer to the main body. If you're not happy with that, try making the wingtips a little beefier with bigger guns. I'm not too fond of that straight edge in the front of the cockpit. Try adding some curve pieces here to create a nice inward curve. For a first creation in all those years, this looks really good. Especially the enginesection looks great. It seems like you've already learned a lot in the past two weeks. Hopefully it keeps being an exciting time of discovery!
  19. You've made some really nice mini's here. Your kind of setting the standard of all those to follow! I don't really know which one I like best, but let me point out some things that prevent some models from being one of my favorites. On the A-wing the cannons look weird, especially in the first picture. I've noticed you changed those pieces to flick-fire missiles in one of the final pictures, but that doesn't work for me either. Some regular bars would be better, or (as I've already suggested to DonBrizzel) screwdrivers could do the job. The Y-wing looks good, but why have you given it dark grey domes? Also, using those round column bricks with grooves to connect the motors to the body would add some more greeblish detail. That Falcon is particulary nice, but the round plates stick out a bit too much for being vents. 1x1 tiles would look better, I think. BTW, does it have some kind of motors on the back? The Imperial Shuttle and Dropship look spot on. I like how you've incorporated the grey areas in the wings. The cockpit lacks the black windscreen however, and that is really a distinctive feature of that ship. A simple tile and using other curve pieces should do the trick. The AT-AT is actually one of my favorites. The proportions of the legs don't really bother me. The posing of them is just a little weird. Finally, I wonder why you gave that Slave I those peculiar colors. Did you run out of bricks? Still, I really enjoy seeing these mini's. It looks like you've put lots of time and work into making these ones. Congrats!
  20. Glad you like it. Wait... you can see on what I voted ... is there then no privacy at all in this world! But hehe, I changed a poll! Yay! I try, I swear! Pleas don't zap me away, o mighty flowerthrower, creator of dragons! That reminds me... I do have another suggestion for adding a particular series of MOCs by a particular builder... Space ninjas come to mind (this would be the perfect moment to show of my ninja emoticon, but haven't hosted it somewhere...), and Friends fighters as well...
  21. I like the idea of a MOC index. Often I use that one in the SW forum to browse through, just to get some inspiration. However, I think the distinction between digital and real builds is trivial for such an index. If you're looking for inspiration, you want to look at what has been built in a specific field, and not whether that build was digital or not. To make this searching more effective, I wouldn't recommend placing them based on the date the MOCs were posted. Per theme could work, but then again a lot of builds don't fit into a particular theme. To me, the most handy method would be to classify them partially by theme (the very obvious ones, like Classic space, neo classic space, blacktron, steampunk, maybe even some licensed stuff...), partially by category (micro builds, fighters, huge capital ships (like UCS), mechs, space bases...) Maybe some series of distinct MOCs by a certain builder could get a seperate entry. Maybe rongYIREN desktop fighters... but I don't follow this forum close enough to do a lot of suggestions on this case. Hopefully this helps you face that daunting task. I hope that helps us users to find some hidden gems of this forum!
  22. Wow, this seams really plausible. It reminds me a lot of the Black Gate set. You've recreated Grond pretty good considering the limitations, and I love the beacon. Maybe a function to drop the flame would be nice. As a small additional set, I could see the white tree with Denethor, and perhaps a big catapult. So are you planning to expand your collection?
  23. That's a pitty to hear. you rentry would level out the balance between the number of Rebel- and Imperial entries. But I guess there's nothing we can do about that, can we?
  24. Dang it... you're still on time to enter. If the Empire doesn't win, I'm blaming you! Cause just look at this thing. It's pretty nice. The multi-layer thing is really working for me. And those hallways are beautiful. Those slopes and pipes work out really well. What's in the hall isn't too shabby as well. And those ice formations... I also really like the idea of a Tauntaun sled and of using detonators in the decoration (didn't know you Rebel's could handle multi-tasking...) That base you've made works well too. And have I mentioned that it's awesome that's it modular? It all makes me want to see some more. It's a pitty you didn't include some kind of entrance. Now we don't have a clue as of how you ended up down there. Also, something on the ceiling of the corridor could have been added. It wouldn't have had such enormous effect, but make the scene even more complete. You already have my compliments and admiration. Wait a moment... how has that Wampa been able to survive all that time, being held hostage by you cruel Rebels. You don't even pretend not to know about that scandal! And you don't even care ! "Nile, be carefull, there could be a Wampa inside..." But who put it there, and for what reason? You scum! I'm glad he survived, but I imagine snow doesn't have such a high nutritional value...
  25. This is a rather amazing build! You've done the snow really well. Both the whole plain on the outside as the spots of snow and ice on the inside are perfect. In the base, you have that beautiful floor with the nice debries. The sloping pilars that merge into the walls are very nice and reminiscent of Hoth. congratulations on those! The textures of the walls are a nice touch too, and fit nicely with the rather spartan layout of the room with the spare consoles and closets. You've succeeded in making a model that looks good from the outside (forgot to mention the detailing on the roof) as the inside. That first two pictures look really gloomy. Very well done! Some details higher up the walls would do this model even more justice. This entry gets my hopes for an Imperial victory even higher up , thank you!
