[SoNE Ep III] The Night Before Life Day
BEAVeR replied to LucasLaughing's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Each and every one of the scenes is awesome! First scene: I like the dark blue. It's a nice new addition to the Hoth pallette. Those consoles that aren't upright anymore are just gorgeous. This really has the feeling of demolition you would expect for a base crushed by the Empire! Second scene: Hilarious and really creative scene! The wires are well incorporated in the scene. It works well, and fills me with a warm feeling of holidays and explosions. Third scene: Not that much to see here, but still a great composition. I love the over-the-shoulder shot with the action in the distance. Those tubes deliver just the right amount of detail for this area. Fourth scene: what a nice and dynamic build! The laser beams are well connected. the Rebel's expression is just priceless. Fifth scene: love the jovial feeling in this one. I can almost hear the singing. And the clutching of the warm coco. Sixth scene: extremely epic shot! Really engaging, and that's a nice door in the background. Seventh scene: I've got a weak spot for micro building. there isn't much to add to that shuttle, and the background looks effective. Eighth scene: Probably my favorite. Both the build and the picture are gorgeous. I'm still missing some stalactites or so, but nothing can stop the awesomeness of this scene! Ninth and Tenth scene: My Imperial heart grows bigger when seeing these nobel fellow Imperials. Really good propaganda shots. Eleventh scene: see, we Imps aren't that mean at all! But that Rebel looks like he's up to something... Hey, that's anice wall in the background! So it's beyond all doubt. This is a phenomenal build. I had a hard time putting together just one scene, and you've got a lot more up in your sleeve. Hat off to you! -
Hi, glad to see another Imperial entry! The way you made those flames, smoke and explosions is really original! Too bad some of those pieces don't exist in those colors... I have some additional suggestions that won't take up much time. Try placing those terminals on a stand, insted of just placing them on the ground. Instead of making the walls two studs thick, consider only one stud. The heaviness of the walls distracts me a bit of the scene itself. Also, try closing the portal is standing in, by putting something like an arch brick above it. Put some texture in the walls. This can be easily done with some pallisade bricks, SNOT pieces... anything you can think of. you can keep those different colors: I really like that variation. Hope that helps you to visualize your story as you want it to. You've made a good start.

What? Hilarious? Wampa's and Tauntauns die you know. It's a tragedy! Now that's the spirit. Anyway, thank you both for your kind words. It was the first time I built this kind of diorama. The first time I made some greebles and damage. The first time a tried to sculpt a living creature (that turned out way too big, so that i had to add an extra level on the scenery ). Also, I really wanted to have such a typical door. It was a real pain to build, and I spent may too many hours on it, but I'm happy with the result. So I'm very glad and surprised you like it that much. I'm not manipulating the truth. I'm only scattering your tiny notion of what the truth is! There's plenty of evidence for these atrocities by the Rebels. Take the scene for example where Luke is 'attacked' by a Wampa. In fact, that Wampa only shows up to make it clear to Luke that his Tauntaun was near dead. Didn't you see how starved and fatigued it looked? The thing is, the Wampa didn't go very easy (he was a bit enthousiastic and concerned), and that's why the Tauntaun and Luke got really scared. Their have reaction upset the Wampa, and in it's heavy gestures to explain he didn't want to cause damage to anyone, he hit them in an accident. concerned as he was, he decided to take them home. Unfortunately, the Tauntaun was in such a bad shape that he died along the way. Conform the ancient tradition, The Wampa then began to eat the flesh and gather the fur (for the plush toys of course) of the Tauntaun. It's a kind of circle of life thingie. He hung Luke upside down in the meantime, to get enough blook to his head, because he was in shock, and with those killing temperatures that isn't healthy. When Luke wakened, the Wampa approaches him to free him, and you know what that blasted Rebel does? He just chops of the Wampa's arm! And that calls himself a Jedi! You see, you can't ignore this story. The evidence is everywhere. Thanks! But why remain impartial when you see how primitive these Rebels are? I think the only explanation can be the holiday spirit here. But don't get me wrong. I think our Rebel players are alright. They're just pawns of the cruel system. Indead, it's an LDD build. I put a link in the first post to the file, so everyone can check I only used existing parts (that's what I think, since I used the regular LDD only, so not extended). The rendering was a real pain. As if all the transparent parts weren't enough, almost everything was white. To make the white Wampa stand out against the white background, I had to do some post processing. I altered the color tones of both layers a bit, but not so much as if it were seperate colors. You can think of the Wampa as built with yellowed white bricks . I'll keep uploading more pictures when my computer poops out those gems. Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Although it may be a bit late, I hope you all had great holidays. All of you.

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Avenger (Imperial Headquarters)
BEAVeR replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Yes, I did it! I got ready in time! Here's my entry, titled "A fluffy tragedy". It's about how cruel those primitive Rebels are... [soNE Ep. III] A fluffy tragedy by Bert.VR, on Flickr Oh yes, for the moment it's 4-1 for the Imps!!! will be happy! -
Ahhhh… my fingers are freezing! These pilot suits are made to keep you warm in outer space, but this planet is way worse. The only thing this Rebel base has to offer are record temperatures and giant locked doors. This one in front of me is the biggest we’ve seen in the time we’ve been here. A full hour, I’ve been trying to crack this door open. I was selected to be on this mission because of my promotion, and my technical expertise as a pilot. But this door is heavily secured. And we can’t just blast it open. This base is weakened. Who knows what a heavy explosion could cause… Wait… a beep! I don’t know what we did, but somehow… and now, a deep noise… that blasted door is opening! After all the effort it has asked of us, I’ve grown really curious. What could lay behind this door? What secret deserves that much protection? For what obscure things have my fingers been suffering like this? What?! Is that really… a bunch of… plush Tauntauns? That’s so unexpected, I just can’t hold my laugh. My companions apparently are thinking the same. A bunch of stuffed Tauntaun … hahaha! “So what are they doing here actually?” One of my friends remarks. Strange I haven’t asked that question before. Looking around me, the surroundings are telling me a rather dark story. This seemingly hilarious heap of huge plush Tauntauns seems to form a serious threat to the Rebellion. There are consoles in this room, and even what seems to be a walkway for guards. But why… why are these cute animals such a threat to that Rebel scum… I have the feeling that menacing shadow growing on the ground may be the answer. Carefully, I turn around, only to see the biggest Wampa I’ve ever seen. But it doesn’t pay attention to me. It has this kind of expression of disbelief on it’s face. Not because it’s surprised to see those plush Tauntauns, but it seems like the Wampa wasn’t expecting to see those ever again. Slowly, it reaches out for one of the soft animals, and studies it carefully. Slowly, the expression of disbelief turns into one of childish joy. Slowly, my expression turns from fear into a feeling of joy. [soNE Ep. III] A fluffy tragedy by Bert.VR, on Flickr [soNE Ep. III] The connection by Bert.VR, on Flickr The Wampa seems to notice us at last. It turns to me, and reaches out for me. I can’t move. But all I get is a surprisingly tender hug from the Wampa. It seems to thank us, it even seems to smile! I try to hug the behemoth back, and a feeling of deep warmth fills my entire body. My fingers aren’t freezing any more. The coldest planet in the universe just became the place where I found the warmest feeling. Carefully, the Wampa puts me back on the ground. These animals aren’t dangerous at all. On the contrary, I think they might be the kindest species alive. So why are they deemed so dangerous? Maybe… maybe this room contains the answer. While the Wampa is hugging my fellow troopers (if I only could see their faces!), I head for the console. It’s primitive (but it’s Rebel equipment of course), but seems to be in a workable condition. After some fiddling around, the screen shows me a file. As I read it, slowly the horror contained in this room began to came clear to me. [soNE Ep. III] Rebel technology... by Bert.VR, on Flickr It turns out the Wampa-people (to me, those civilized creatures aren’t beasts at all) adores the Tauntauns. In fact, they seem to see them as some kind of divine animal. That’s because the Tauntauns provide milk, fur and especially affection to the Wampa’s on this deserted planet. It has come even so far the Wampa’s began to make Tauntaun plushes, to have their beloved companions always with them. But then, the Rebels came. Needing transport themselves, they rudely took away the Tauntauns from the Wampa’s, only to misuse them. It’s not just a coincidence a lot of Tauntauns died during the Rebel’s presence. They didn’t give them proper food, or affection. Never a rebel sat down to have some tea with a Tauntaun, no matter how hard they worked for them. The Wampa’s are a really friendly and reasonable people, so at first, they were okay with sharing their Tauntauns. But after a while, the Wampa’s couldn’t watch their beloved Tauntauns suffering any more. So they decided to free the Tauntauns from the Rebel’s grasp. They weren’t going to hurt anyone. They just were going to end the Rebel’s tyranny over the Tauntauns. But the savage Rebels answered the Wampa’s action with gunfire. That day, Hoth’s snow turned black with Wampa blood. To prevent any further actions from the Wampa’s the Rebels confiscated all Tauntaun plushes, and even imprisoned some of their people. If they would ever attempt to ‘steal’ (as they say themselves), the Rebels would destroy all those hostages. And that’s the horrible truth contained in this room. After the attack on the base, the Wampa’s must have come back to look for their precious Tauntauns, both real ones as plush ones. I don’t want to know how few of the animals the Wampa’s have managed to save. They couldn’t find their plush toys however, because they were hidden away behind this massive door. I imagine more plush toys are stored in the next room. Maybe there’s even a cell with an abandoned Wampa body in there… Shivers run across my entire body as I read all this. Only now I see the suffering in the eyes of the Wampa that followed us. Only now I can understand how happy he must have felt when we opened the door and revealed the precious interior. Only now I see how cruel the Rebels truly are. The Wampa doesn’t seem to want to leave us. Instead, it seems like it wants to leave with us. He looks like a kid who cannot wait to share his happiness with others. Suddenly, the Wampa releases a thunderous and joyful sound. Just moments later similar roars are heard in the distance. It seems we’re going to have Wampa party here, to celebrate what they’ve found again. Then, as in an impulsive act of thankfulness, the Wampa reaches out to grab another plush Tauntaun and gives the enormous thing to us. A gift. [soNE Ep. III] A gift by Bert.VR, on Flickr Truly, this icecold planet with is inhabitants seems to give me the warmest feeling I’ve ever experienced. I’ve the feeling the Wampa’s and we are going to be close friends. ______________________ LXF File

Congratulations! I still remember your very first post, and it has been great to see you grow. You really deserve this, both because your an excellent builder, a great organizer (let's just forget about the rule changes in SoNE Ep. II ), and a nice person. Please do enjoy it!
-
Well, I just had a small idea that could work on your TIE Fighter as well. Consider using those grey levers (the same ones you used to make those lovely cannons) to make the grey stripes on the wings. I've the feeling they don't stick out too much. Also, maybe you could add flower pieces as greebles? I wouldn't know how to attach those though... EDIT: as for your new design, good work on the scale of the cockpit, looks really good!!! You maybe overdid the grey stripings a bit. Because you made the horizontal lines both on the main panel as the sub panel. That double use of grey tiles makes it look a bit too thick.

[SoNE Ep III] Destroying The Main Computer
BEAVeR replied to Mr Breden's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Wow, some really great builds are coming from the Empire! Yet, this one stands out to me. I like the serenity in this MOC. What do you need more if you have a ton of grill tiles? You have used them really good, and combined them with the right amount of regular tiles to create an interesting effect. The strings are a nice addition too, and are really well built into the wall. The dump-room (where the Rebel's rubbish is being incinerated!) looks good too, and complements the hallway nicely. All that trash looks great too. It seems like you had quite some fun there . That Life Day tree is just awesome. I didn't know they used Vader helmets to top of the tree, and Sauron eyes to adorn it! Still looking for advice? Try adding some more texture to the floor of the hallway. In some spots, you've already added a tiny amount of wedge plates. Maybe you could do that in more places. Also, the door that gives acces to the incinerating chamber is surrounded by some nice ice formations. You could use some curve- and slopepieces there to give it more of a robust look. Finally, maybe lay some tiles next to the grill tiles of the walkway as well, to give everything a sense of visual coherence. So really great already! Glad you're on the right side! But are you that low on funds, you have to advertise for your sponsor Shell ? -
Finally we get to see some real action! And in what kind of setting! The ice formations immedeately caught my eye. Those pillars, stalagmites, stalactites (yes, I've been studying chemistry) look awesome. Apart from the natural elements, the technical elements are great too. The whole battery of those instantly recognizable screens, with those simple but really nice chairs, the spots and than that blaster. Awesomeness all around! What somewhat disturbs the party for me is the fact that some area's look quite bland in comparison with those awesome pieces. especially the floor looks a little dull. And one didn't get much attention at all. I like your ice, so why don't you extend it a bit further across the scene? The base was abandoned for a long time, so the ice got all space. Maybe you could show that further. But what hurts me the most is seeing a wounded fellow Imperial, while I don't see any Rebel corpses...!

Hi, I think you're right: this is a very succeeded model. But I think Brickdoctor is right as well. The cockpit doesn't have the right proportion. A small thing that would make this model a little more accurate, would be to make the inner side of the middle panels of the wings light grey. The actual TIE Advanced as a lot of greebling there as well. That way, those plates you used for structural support would get a aesthetical function as well. Too bad you couldn't recreate the horizontal grey stripes on the wings. Maybe with clips and bars it could be achieved... But that would mean you have to rework the way the wings are hinged. Finally, I think the greebling on the wings can be represented in a more accurate way. Instead of using grill tiles everywhere, consider using 1x1 round tiles maybe, or maybe a jumper plate... think about it. So what's next? I've come to expect my daily awesome mini ship here. A B-wing perhaps? Or even a MF?
-
That's very strange. I had a look, and indead, the body is still the same part. The poster depicts another one however! Am I just seeing things?
-
Hey, I didn't notice TLG reworked the underside of the astromech body as well! It looks great now, although it's a pitty you can't squeeze in a third leg... or am I mistaking?
-
Nice addition to your line of mini's. You stuck some great SNOT in the cockpit. The beams that connect the wings and the cockpit are amazing as well. Really well done! I'm stuck myself with a micro TIE-fighter (20 pieces max.), so I've given it a lot of thought already. Maybe I can help you refine your model further. To make the cockpit window stand out more, maybe you could try to use a small flat bevel gear there. Those ridges would convey the feeling of the octagon shape of the cockpit window more. You could use this piece as wing detail as well, ressembling the imperial logo with additional greebling. Also, consider using bars instead of tiles to make the grey stripings on the wings. Maybe just a small trans blue tile could work as an exhaust engine. Don't worry if you don't get it quite right from the first time. You've already made some great steps, and in my eyes, the TIE fighter is one of the hardest ships to recreate in this scale. Good luck!

[LDD MOC] 71,000 piece, 13-foot Super Star Destroyer
BEAVeR replied to Fox Hound's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ever since I first saw this model in the LDD2Povray topic, I'm finding every model I see extremely small. This model is a milestone in Lego MOCcing, I think. In grandeur it even exceeds awesome MOCs like MB's Sandcrawler. The amount of bricks, effort and detail in this is beyond anything I've ever seen before. So how does the point at the front look? I'm ecited to see a picture of the full model. It might even end up as my wallpaper! Anyway, I really hope you get the money to build this model. Every word I type in this comment is making me feel guilty that I could not come up with a comment that does this extraordinary creation justice. -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
BEAVeR replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, I had a similar problem, and I'm running the same OS. The way I fixed it, was to make a new folder C:output-lddtopovray be sure to give full acces. The, set your output path (under settings in ldd2povray) to that particular folder. It's a bit of a dirty trick, but it works for me. That way, I don't have to mess around among the 'Program flies', as you like to call them ;) -
You're really on the right way with these star wars minis! I made an A-wing myself, but much smaller. This one looks already really great. My suggestions - try replacing the flat bars you used for cannons with something that has more structure to it. Maybe a piece like a screwdeiver or a ski pole would do a good job. - for the engine ring: instead of just placing that 2x2 round plate right after the engine glow, try placing a 2x2 trans clear round plate between the two, the make the ring 'levitate' more. Maybe you coyld even use a round tile instead of a plate. I've the feelng a real ring would make it even better, but I've no idea how to do that. I they'd only make those one rings two wide... I like seeing you improve your design. Shows some real dedication. Congrats!

Voting is open for Dec 2013 Lego Alt Build Competition!
BEAVeR replied to Roqsteady's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Good of you to spread the word. I already advertised a bit when presenting my models here, but didn't wanted it to be a call for votes. Good to see it here in an independet topic. For the rest of the world: you should really have a look. There are a lot of really good alternates made for this competetion, complete with building instructions! If you want to get more value out of one of your sets, Rebrickable is the place to be. If you like building alternates yourself, a next competition is underway... -
Hmmmm... micro... hmmmm... train. Awesome micro train!!! The engine looks really good, with those bars giving just the roght amount of detail. Tha last wgon is one of my favorites too. I really like the metallic look on that one.The 'staurs' and connections between the wagons are great. Very nice MOC! It would be fun to see this grow, with a water tower and such.

This is looking really good! But I guess there's no way to get part callouts? Also, how did you make that exploded image? I would love to know which one of your tricks you used there!

The only thing I would see, is to expose some studs that recess in the surface, or more tiles elevated above the surface. Nonetheless, these stands are really great! It really adds extra value to these already great micro's. The cannon is a great addition. Some laser beams could make the scene more dynamic, especially combined with a posing of the fighters on a certain angle, and not as straight as they're placed now. I'm a big fan of these ships and diorama's. I really hope you make some more. You could make multiple modular DS modules, and who knows what else!
-
That doesn't mean it can bear heavy ressemblance to the TIE Phantom. JEK's starfighter was also heavily based pn the E-wing, so great similarities cannot be excluded.
-
An excellent in many ways! The dragon is really nice, with such a distinct head, great wing joints and a piggy bank belly. The houses are great too. You've got some nice stonework there, and those roofs are perfect. I like several details lake the panel hanging out of the store, or the ring used as doorknob. The walkways are really excellent too. Congrats. Too bad you didn't add the big crossbow. I've the feeling it's going to be quite important in this scene yet to come in the movie! I'm seeing some really great builds from the Hobbit movies. This one is certainl among the best of them.
-
Actually, I quite like what I'm seeing with the Cantina. It's great we get a moisture-harvesting aain. That's about ten years ago! And now a good looking version peeks above the Cantina roof.
-
I fear this may not be a correct assumption. Especially when you look at the star destroyer, you notice sole differences. On this version, plates with studless parts have been used. The section under the bridge contains more layers too. On the ATAT, I can spot almost no differences, except for the lasers (spring loaded missiles). I still hope the ATAT is a placeholder, but I think the SD looks fine already. We'll see...
