  1. This is such a vibrant scene with a lot of life. I can almost hear the river streaming! Oh, I like everything. The interesting house, the waggly chimney, all the little animals, greenery all over the place, that sled... beautiful scene. Only thing missing is some bird poo on the roof
  2. If you have a good memory, you may remember the Corinthian column I made some time ago. I got a lot of good comments on that one (thank you!), and I wanted to build some more... stuff . I wanted to revisit that magnificent Ancient Greece, with it's buildings. I wanted to give those ruined pieces of art their former glory again. I wanted to build... some more columns. Real Greek ones, this time. Not that modern Roman stuff. If you have a perfect memory, you may remember that I said the Ionic column was hard to do because of its spirals (volutes, if you prefer fancy terms). I did have a go at designing one however, but I began to think the spirals were impossible to do . And if you don't get those right, your column is not right. You can take that quite literally. I made a compromise on the volutes, but had to fight all kinds of structural blabla . If you have a good eyesight, you may have noticed that I'm presenting now an Ionic column nontheless. What happened? Some would call it a miracle, some just inspiration. I found the Indiana Jones whip. It was just perfect. The size, the shape, the extra details, the easy connections, the look and feel. I felt this whip was made for something more than being in every Indiana Jones set. It became my new best friend. Once I had my spiral (the only spirally part in LEGO, I believe), the column flowed onto my LDD screen (and a bit later, on my render screen). At once, all the structural hustle and bustle fell away. At almost the first try, I had something I was completely happy with. A worthy sibling of my Corinthian column. And that's what you see in front of you. Before anyone asks: the column should be buildable in real life. I know the whips aren't available in white, but everything else apart form the One Rings I used, is available in white (now even the croissant!). Furthermore, I believe the column's quite stable. It uses the same technique that I learned from Jamie, in the designer video on the LEGO Creator website . This is my tribute to that video, because it made me want to make columns five years ago. I've come a long way... . So I hope you enjoy this Ionic column in minifig scale, containing 254 bricks. And I looked it up for you: this is the first one in LEGO to appear on the internet. Hope you appreciate it.
  3. Just a quick build ? This is amazing! The shapes are as delightful as ever, and I like all the little decorating patterns that peek through this build. The little 'viper' is beautiful as well. Is the gravity well generator attached to the ring around it, or is it just floating around? I can't really tell. Astonishing build as always. Please, keep up the good work. Hark Mamil...
  4. I've just found a Star Wars set that hasn't been entered to this index before! I thought that was impossible, but I guess it's my lucky day. I own this set, and I've always enjoyed it's complex mechanics and cool look (it is Jango Fett after all...). The building has always bugged me, however. How often it didn't work! Well, in LDD it was even worse. There were some parts missing, unflexible flexible parts and all the levers were hard to connect. to my big surprise, the Hinge Allign tool actually did what I expected it to do... from time to time. So this is quite an errorful build, but I did the best I could. 8011 - Jango Fett - Theme: Star Wars (Technic) LXF File (LDD 4.3.6) Errors: - Part 42813 not available in LDD, replaced with custom built solution - Rubber band not attached - Part 32174 not available in LDD, raplaced with part 93571 - Part 32307 not available in LDD, replaced with custom built solution - Part 78c05 not available in LDD, replaced with custom built solution - Part 32293 not attached at one side - Part 6536, near the shoulders, could not be placed due to a collision error with the technic axle-bush connector - Part 32133ac01 not available in LDD, replaced with part 57028c01 - Part 75c10 not available in LDD, replaced with part 55668 - Part 32074c01 not available in LDD, replaced with part 57796 - I could not get him in an upright position
  5. I got the same problem some days ago. I had been able to make succesful renders for a few weeks, and suddenly the program refused to make some more. When trying to find the problem, I noticed that I had never before entered the Library_Path=\\.\LDDIncludes in the main file. Then how was I able to make all those previous renders? Anyhow, after a while I noticed the in the bottom right corner of the LDD2Povray-window, the message "Driver not installed" was displayed, instead of "Service is running". I tried several thing to fix this, but reinstalling (of LDD2PovRay) was the only thing that worked. Strange. This helped me, I hope it can help you too.
  6. Time for some more Belgians! I live in Temse, Belgium. BTW, what is that scottish flag doing near Saudi Arabia?
  7. Great landscaping at a tiny scale! How much I like the trees, I like all the steps even more. This micro MOC isn't just about one clever part usage. It's about lots of them, and about the result as well. Excellent!
  8. Thunderbirds rules! Recently, I bought the full collection on DVD, and I'm enjoying it soooo much. The extra technical drawings of the Thunderbirds are nice too. Besides, I've made a micro MOC about the Thunderbirds, featuring an 7-bricks Mole. Once I've made some more, I'll certainly post it!
  9. Must. Enter. Raffle. Thanks for organizing this again! [MOC] Rudolph the rednosed ornament by Bert.VR, on Flickr My father's name is Rudy. I guess this is a tribute to him. Plus, this is my 100th post. I've something to celebrate. I'm a full citizen now!
  10. Well, that means ALL of our five entries will go through to the next scoring round, I suppose. Bonus points! Half of the rebels will be disappointed, and what does a disappointed rebel? He joins the good side...
  11. It seems that from now on, LEGO will be using the one by one round tile with republic logo printed on it. I think it's a little bit too small... But hey, the minifigs look good (lovin' those death star gunners!), and the buzzdroid looks like a clever assembly. I've just noticed it myself, and those new plant parts indeed look gorgeous. At last, we can expect some great Felucia-MOCs with these!
  12. Thanks for making this contest possible, Bob & co! I really enjoyed that I could finally join in. And such a fun challenge! Congratulations!
  13. I use LDD a lot myself, because with the little money I have as a student, I rather buy LEGO sets I really like, than buying bricks for a MOC that probabely will be... not as good as that LEGO set. So yes, it's mostly a question of money. The digital world is wonderful and free, so why don't use it to it's full extent? In essence, I think that's what digital LEGO tools are all about: making LEGO available for everyone. Now, people in countries with very high LEGO-prices (when we're complaining about those prices, their situation is about 3 times as worse). OK, people need a computer, but if they need that anyway, then installing a LEGO Cad is about as cheap as the sunrise. I don't think digital and real life MOCs should be treated in the same way. Both have their powers and their falws. Of course, making physical rigid structures digitally is really hard. The only feedback you have, is the "select connected" tool. And of course you can use parts in colors that don't exist in real life. But is building with LEGO really about sticking to the system? Hell no. LEGO is about rising above the restrictions you have. It's not about the physical world, but about your imagination. Everything is possible. That's why people keep finding connections TLG had never intended. That's why people make custom minifigures. That's why people don't just build what's in the building instructions. That's why LEGO exists as it is today. That's why we all love to play with LEGO. To push the boundaries of what we have, to realize that world-changing idea that's in our head. So why look at digital MOCs as inferior? Are they less creative, just because they use parts that don't exist? Are they ugly, because they may be a bit feeble? I don't think so. That's why I'm equally stunned by a good digital and real MOC. And when they're well presented, I like it even more, because you can see then that the creator doesn't just let his MOC go on his own, without help. It's just a collection of overpriced plastic bricks. But with a story, with a nice picture, you can see commitment behind that pile of bricks. you can see love, inspiration, creativity, dedication. Things I miss in this often grey world. Things that make me say: "thank you Eurobricks "
  14. Ah, that's looking better! You see, you can get much better pictures with just a few basic settings. Glad I could help As for linking to the lxf-file. I may not be a mod, but I believe I can help you.You should upload it to an external host, just like you do with your pictures. You could use Brickshelf, Dropbox, Google Drive, Skydrive etc. Once you've uploaded it there, you should make a hyperlink to the file. Often, you can find this option under 'share'. You have to paste that link in your post, and your done. Basically, it's just like linking to pictures from your Flickr. And my compliments on the shape of your speeder once again. It looks really sleek from the side. A very clean build for a dirty pile of parts!
  15. If we had more troopers like you, the rebelion wouldn't stand a chance. I mean, how brillian tis this? The ship is pretty awesome, a kind of pimped up E-wing (although the half-enclosed, half-open cockpit does seem a little weird). The details are awesome, like the skeleton (I knew somebody was going to make one, and yours is absolutely lovely!). And the story is just... it really sucks you into the build. I really like the gloomyness to it. Outstanding job! Yeah, maybe... the Empire still has a silver of a chance....
  16. Hi, the speeder looks nice and really looks SW-ish. It reminds me both of the Naboo royal ships and the freeco speeder. Well done! I like how mutliple elements are clearly recognizable, like the A-wing part. One remark though: instead of just hitting the 'print screen'-button, go to tools -> take a screenshot (ctrl K). Then you won't have those disturbing studs in the background. If you want an image of higher quality, you could always go to properties, and turn the brick shading quality up. Then you would have better looking images without too much extra work (like when you'd render it). Thanks for reinforcing the empire!
  17. Well, now the Epire is going to win! This scene is defenitly the most wrecked I have seen. The composition is great, the wreckage looks very tight, that floor is beautiful, and I like the tentacles as stipped wire. Good job! This is one of those builds that doesn't give away that they're made of a limited selection of parts. Marvelous!
  18. I'm absolutely fine with that. What's the fun in a contest without participants (from the good side of course)? I hope extending the deadline would bring in a lot of creations that otherwise would have been smothered by a lack of time.
  19. Great speeder (and now comes the obligatory...) for a rebel. The cockpit looks really cosy. Actually, it reminds me of the ARC 170, and also a bit of the Bat from TDKR. The only problem I have: If you threw this together from all of the wreckage you found around you, then why don't I see any recognizable parts? You're not going to tell me that you disassembled everything and then assembled it from scratch... O, and just because you have a cool airspeeder, doesn't mean that you can go around and bully some worthy impirial troopers! (Yeah! I'm not alone! There are fellow soldiers out there!)
  20. I knew that guy couldn't be trusted! Nice speeder you've got there, but you have to admit our FWAT looks much cooler and more practical! I admit that thing gets pretty hot in the sun, but black is just a plain cool hot color. Good job overall, but I think you underestimated that rock that almost killed our machine! It was way bigger! Our machines can handle that tiny rock you've depicted, but that wasn't what there was. Luckily, we had our astromech! O, and I remember the desert as a tan place, not grey. So yeah, not bad for rebel scum! Not bad at all...
  21. lThis looks great! I like the clear seperation between the base and what's beyond. The wall looks very good (although with that big gap, I have my doubts about its efficientcy). The best part is probably the sewer, with the toy soldiers base and the green flames. Looks very toxic. It's a nice metaphor of how the Empire sickens err... nourishes... the planets it occupies. Too bad you can't help us out here on Tatooine. But I see greater causes call you!
  22. Yeah, I think people are having a really hard time with this one. But I still hope there will be some great entries that will make the wait worthwhile (come on Empre!). What will happen when there are less than 10 entries? Will there be a round 2 in that case? As for the new parts rule: I used the binoculars that were included with the TIE Fighter as greebles. I don't think they count as minfig accesories in that case? Should I mention them?
  23. Fellow imperials! Am I all alone on this planet they call Tatooine? [soNE Ep. II] To rob a thief by Bert.VR, on Flickr If don't unite fast (before 11 November!), those rebels will escape before us and be the heroes. If we don't escape first, we'd better not escape at all. I doubt Lord Vader will tolerate a second defeat! I can feel my neck already itching... So if we ever want to see are friends and family again, we have to act now!
  24. Isn't it weird there are no minifigures on that picture? It can't be the official box art or instructions... The newish missiles look interesting. I see many application for that part!
  25. That's just great! With a fairly simple (read: executable) mechanism, you managed to create a functional and accurate movement. I like how it wobbles a bit. It does make a lot of vertical movement, but that's just a minor issue. By the way, how much of the original model did you keep? I don't see any changes on the outside, but I imagine the inside being completely butchered. Great way to introduce yourself!
