24: Mafia - Confirmation and Discussion
jimmynick replied to KotZ's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Oh thanks . @Kwatchi veteran is relative; I mean I've been doing this for years and I still suck . -
I'm not sure if the pin on the liftarm has friction or not. If it doesn't, you could look for an equivalent part, or take something like a minifig syringe or cut piece of flex hose (anything 1 stud long and the diameter of a lightsaber blade) to stick inside the pin to wedge it against the foot of the landing gear.

Hi @Reaper! I mocked up a basic solution for you, using the LDD model provided by @ADHO15. There's a brick above those dark red slopes that I replace with a technic brick. The liftarm that extends the landing gear rests against the bushings, holding the fighter up against gravity. See the pictures and attached .lxf. Hope this helps. .lxf is HERE.

Thanks for sharing that link - you're right, the original is absolutely not what I had in mind, but it's still a good recreation.

There's not really much to say since your MOC is so amazing. Your use of bulbous glass windows on the dark flesh building and in the blue elevator capsule are great. I love the gears and the ray-gun pantograph on the train, and I also like the rocket you've put inside the circle. It's really lovely and whimsical all over. Excellent work!

I've never seen the show but I'm guessing that the big tan building's windows are meant to represent the wire lattice that you see in certain institutional buildings? The SNOT construction you used along with those large plates is just inspired - a great solution!

These are very well-designed, and I love the LEGO Universe billboard. It must have been quite tricky to get the logos' geometry right in such a small package. What a good addition to any town or train layout.

That's a great resource that I didn't manage to find by myself; thanks for pointing it out!

This MOC is really nice, and I'm glad that you included the mechanical portion just above the windscreen of the cockpit - it often seems to be forgotten. I'm actually working on a system-scale Hawk at the moment - when you were doing research for this model, did you find any good images of the underside of the ship, or did you make things up? This has been something of a sticking point for me.

You say you don't trust Benson. Do you agree with my accusation? Oh, wait, I'm "grasping at straws". That means you must have reasons of your own - would you like to share? Also what led you to think those same things about the night kill? Oh, were you thinking about third parties because you are trying to cover your tracks, Mr. Not-a-Mole? I didn't "flounder" - I wondered something and looked for evidence, which is exactly what you're supposed to do. Let me point out something painfully obvious: Using Evidence: "I thought X might be scum because of a particular behavior so I looked at the case files and decided it's not enough to tell one way or another" Defending Someone: "Hey guys X is town, please trust me". Two can play at that game, Jason I see that in Hour One, you suspected Senator Greene. But even though he made a long post here today, not a peep from you about him. Why'd you go all soft on him? Why did you go all soft on him yesterday when you said your vote "wouldn't stick"? I even called that out during Day One. In the spirit of charity I will suggest Jason White is merely deliberately dense, but it appears that I'm also clapping back at the Senator. That's all right by me. By the way, Jason, if you say you changed your mind about Senator Greene, I'll just accuse you of mindlessly defending him and you'll go to "the top of my scum list"(Actually I won't, because that's dumb). Why, perchance, is drawing scum into a position to make mistakes "something to distract the town"? Also, Jason, you're using "the town" in the third person. -
Since it appears to be three studs long, I expect it's Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 3L in silver.

OK then.... When Officer Skinner flipped, it destroyed my theory about the claims. Sharing after the fact that my now-discredited idea made me suspect several people doesn't mean that I'm immediately accusing and then clearing them, or "seeing what sticks" - it means that it was wrong to use my theory to suspect then, and it would be stupid to continue to suspect them under that framework. I also hardly think I'm ingratiating myself, and it's not "seeing what sticks" to put together a case against Benson. I'm telling the truth because I have nothing to lie about. That's because I'm town. claiming vanilla is not the same as claiming vig or cop or whatever - multiple people are allowed to be vanilla. This reasoning is just silly. Why can we assume that? -
I'm thinking about getting a few more collections of Star Wars comics. Does anyone have both the Dark Horse Omnibus and the Marvel Legends Epic Collection? Do you have an opinion about which edition of the comics you prefer?

For me, the mock-Tudor part of the building steals the show. That's a nice little lawnmower you have, as well. Great work all around, and the renderings are spectacular.

You know this is inane. You and I and everyone are well within our rights to mildly suspect someone and to keep that thought on the backburner, instead of popping up in the thread to announce "Hey I think X is weird, what do you think?" Honestly, Alfred, I think you're clutching at straws. You say your own PMs corroborate my version of events (and even Benson says I am reporting our interactions faithfully), and you say both Benson and Diane are fishy, and turn around to vote for me. Point of order: I did not copy a PM - I reported its contents. -

How is showing the results of a meta-analysis dodging your question? During Hour 1 I asked myself "Barry is being quiet and doesn't want to lynch on Day One - is this a tell for him?" so I did lots of reading and established that no, it isn't. I don't have to share every single thought I think in the day thread. -

As I said before, going on the offensive can be effective. I just want to respond to all my h8rs who think that PMing early is scummy. In fact, it's helped me catch a liar. His name is Benson. Sound familiar? Let me give y'all a rundown of what went down. You remember that Benson had a strange vote for Bob: This piqued my interest because, truthfully, Bob's claim piqued my interest. So I PMed Benson to ask why he voted for Bob. He responded (I'm paraphrasing) "He's pretending to look useful; it's pointless and he wants to slide under the radar". At this point I said that mass claiming is a legitimate strategy. You'll note that afterwards, Benson's public rationale was all about mass claims: I pointed out the incongruity between his explanations and he said (again, paraphrasing) "That's because you asked me earlier, but now I'm asking everyone else". I don't buy it. This little lie intrigued me, but I didn't think it was a 100% indicator of scum. This brings us to today and Benson's strange response to the night kill. Bob has already expounded on what Benson has said in thread, so I'll point out that he immediately assumed Officer Skinner's death was at the hands of scum: while also busking with the idea that "third parties" use melee weapons, such as hammers: This gets even freakier in PM, where I accused Benson of subtly congratulating scum in this thread and I asked him why he was so sure it was a scum kill. He responded (essentially) "I guess it could have a been a third party", at which point I said "third party as opposed to vig?" This is where Benson goes loopy and says "I mentally categorize vigilantes as third parties". Either Benson is some weird third party who forgot that vigs tend to exist, or he's scum, and very bad at fishing at that (see his first post of the day). I am confident to Vote: Benson (LegoMonorailFan). -

Consider the following meta-analysis of Barry's performance I undertook when deciding how i read him: I decided it wasn't suspicious. -
There are plenty of possibilities left for skylines: Barcelona, Tokyo, Athens (Acropolis?), Brasilia, Rio, Chandigarh, Hong Kong, etc. Is it really? I live in the area so I'm spoiled and don't really have a worldwide perspective on the Smithsonian.

Because going on the offensive can yield results. Because I'm definitely "Town", and she claimed "loyal CTU" to me - incidentally, this was two or so hours after Barry claimed the same thing in thread; I expected her to claim to be town, not CTU. Yeah, she didn't claim to me again, she reamed me out. As I explained above, I thought the circumstances of my claim would establish my townie credentials. Exactly! So you look for discrepancies. I thought I found one, but I actually hadn't. -

I'm allowed to suspect any and everyone, especially this early on. No apology is owed so I shall offer none. For the record, however, you will note that I voted for Dr. James to goad her into action, and I voted for Riley because she slipped in on the coattails of Alfred's vote, a move that I thought was eminently scummy so I was happy to keep my vote on her rather than change to someone else. As for Officer Skinner, my suspicion arose later in the day around the circumstances of my claim. Let me explain that: As for me? I'm Vanilla Town. See? Now we're 33% done with claiming. I recommend everyone else claim to me in the night (coffee break? who knows), or at least slip a $2 bill into my thong. Note we are all claiming to be town (except for Senator "not-a-mole" Greene). Note also that the details of our claims are different every time: Bob is "Town", Agent Moore is "TOWN/CTU/GOOD GUY" (and, to be honest, I thought he was flailing for the "correct" claim), Barry is "loyal CTU" and, mentioned above, Senator Greene is "not a mole". I thought that by coming in confidently with a fifth claim that differs in the specifics from the previous ones was a way to put myself above reproach, a way to say "bite me". And Officer Skinner was the only one to bite. She wasn't happy that I claimed. AT ALL. Earlier in the day, I had actually asked what team she was on and she said she was "loyal CTU", exactly what Barry claimed and similar in nature to how she responded to Bob's claim in Hour 1. Namely, she claimed a different thing than I did. So I thought she was lying. But she flipped CTU. So CTU and town as terms are fungible. I was wrong. Nobody else responded to my claim in the night coffee hour, which I guess isn't really surprising. But it did give me time to pick a wedgie out of my tactical fishnets. You can't see, but the combination of fishnets and these cargo pants is just awful. Because I was wrong, I'm back to the drawing board as far as suspects, so I need to have a think.
