  1. Love the typewriter, love the water cooler. I also like how you used tooth plates to represent the folded-over part of the bedsheet. The police car is great as well. You've outdone yourself with the renderings this time, too. I think the doughnut, though, is a bit of a miss: too busy with round (??) sprinkles, and it doesn't seem to be completely covered in icing.
  2. This is going wonderfully; very glad you were able to fit the portcullis in without too much trouble. This castle has such a classic feel - it's really nice to see.
  3. The fact there is actually such a set coming out is a coincidence; that the fake looks so much like the real set is instead a testament to the hoaxer.
  4. I mean, what else could it be? Hagrid's Hut with Buckbeak Escape has to have precisely those things, and the hoax mockup has a sufficiently-mimicked TLG aesthetic, so....
  5. Is that ever really a surprise? It's almost a running joke now.... That said, I felt moved by Glenn Close's performance in The Wife and felt she deserved the award, but I also know that Olivia Colman deserved it from what I've seen of her in other TV and Movies (sorry, haven't got around to seeing The Favourite yet).
  6. I've never had any of the current sets, but the king's carriage looks amazing, so it got my vote.
  7. Wonderful! I'm so glad you included all the details, such as the tube train and the dragon - but I also like the Sherlock Holmes figure representing the build by the front door. I seem to recall a massive queue outside the last time I swung by the West End. Lovely build, great job.
  8. Just lovely! The opening flaps and the structure around the dk bley parts (with the wedges and slopes) is perfect. Congratulations on a wonderful build.
  9. The review on TBB says that the stripes, white detailing, and the vents by the windows are all printed. The latter surprised me, because on some of the earlier pictures they looked very much like stickers. Honestly, the fact that those details are printed means that I don't have any doubts about picking this set up - stickers would have put me on the fence.
  10. My Valentine's Puppy Brickheadz came today, and it's not only adorable but a great source of dark tan parts.
  11. Using the petal as the dragon's belly is just inspired - this is a lovely MOC in some great colours. Thanks for sharing!
  12. Yeah, it looked weird and I had to play spot the difference between the model and the box art to figure out what went wrong. Aren't they just great!
  13. Great point. Good point too. I think the spooky characters in this theme are pretty good, and having a variety of characters is exciting in a way that an army of generic ghosts is not. The game seems to encourage you to collect ghosts and level up to get more exotic and scarier ghosts, so it would be nice if it rewarded creativity in terms of MOCs and alternate builds for kids, but as has been said in this thread, it looks like that won't be supported.
  14. I wonder how the app works? Can I use the app with a MOC or just with the sets? If it only works with the sets, is there a code to input, a QR code on a piece, or a RFID tag in a piece that tells the app what to do?
  15. It's got a good mad scientist vibe going, which fits in with the school bus and the lab - not sure yet the connection between mad scientist and AR ghosts, though. I had imagined a 50s style chrome diner, with rounded shapes but obviously built in bley - this box really doesn't do anything for me either.
  16. Definitely fangs.
  17. Well I was totally wrong and I love the pics of the new theme!
  18. I acquired this today (and saw TLM2!) and the figures really are delightful, particularly Jenny for her 1978 authenticity. For $10, a great deal. Two vehicles, four figures and a robot? Sign me up.
  19. No, I'm not projecting - I'm proposing a few places where one might separate progressive from regressive on the spectrum of inclusion, with reasons why someone might not want to include a certain group. I deliberately include women as a group because in the present day, excluding women is regressive. I think LGBT characters are fair play for inclusion, and you seem to think not. edit: though I have to admit that WWII and Nazis doesn't really fit in there with race, gender, and LGBT identity. So it's not a perfect spectrum. People can separate the original media from the toy version to varying degrees, based on their preferences and imaginations. So while a TV show is its own thing, it cannot be completely disconnected from the spinoff toy, especially (*ahem Ninjago*) when the show seems designed to sell the toy. OK, so you don't care - but this thread is evidence enough that some people do, and does it harm anyone to cater at least a little to those cares? LEGO could easily produce a Creator house set that comes with two male-coded minifigs, plus a dog. And if anyone doesn't like that, they can use their imaginations and say that the figures are "brothers" or "friends" or "roommates"; here I am flipping around the prescription that people who want LGBT figures could use their imaginations to make it so. That's unfortunate! I'm sorry this has happened to you; I've never experienced this problem. I use Firefox - how about you?
  20. Well, really, my point was that "this stuff" is a dismissive way of referring to LGBT issues, which makes me think that the subject just makes you feel a little bit uncomfortable, but sure, we can look at your posts, including the one where you said "this stuff": I think we agree here. As @Aanchir pointed out, a character in City or another theme could have a pride flag on their bedroom wall, or we could have two male (or female) coded minifigures pushing a pram, say outside a modular building. It would be stereotyping, as you and many others have pointed out, to make every character look like Liberace. If representation weren't important, we wouldn't have things like minidolls. Considering minidolls still exist, I will assume that they're good for business. Even among the more "adult" crowd, we get AFOLs complaining that the Modular Buildings are "too American" and they want their own cultures to be represented. Also, in responding to @GregoryBrick, you said You're right that kids learn about weddings and valentine's day from their parents and other kids, but from the angle of representation in media and toys, it would be nice for children who have gay parents, and slightly older children exploring their own sexuality and relationships, to receive the reassuring message that being gay is normal. What does it matter if someone says "LGBT" instead of "LGBTQ+" or "LGBTQIAP"? Is it that things that are contentious should be kept out of toys for children? Then why do we have things like the Indiana Jones theme, which has Nazis and modern warfare? Should LEGO not have made the Ecto 2 from the reboot of Ghostbusters, because feminism is considered contentious in certain circles? Why should LEGO make Lunar New Year sets, if they cater largely to a non-European audience? Why even have women minifigures, that perpetuate toxic norms such as childbearing, prescriptive body types, and hairstyles? This, I think, is a real slippery slope, and I think you differentiate LGBT issues from other gender-based and cultural because the thought makes you feel icky. A century ago in the UK and America, the thought of women voting made people uncomfortable, but people got over it. In due course, people can accept LGBT identity and relationships as truly normal, too. In my opinion, achieving that end means telling kids it's OK to have 2 dads, or it's OK to have a crush on the boy who sits next to you in class (but he might not fancy you back!) How do we define "neutral"? Everything is political. The status quo might be just fine for you, but it isn't for others. We already have heterosexual pairings, from Han & Leia to Emmet & Wildstyle, and man & woman pairings in domestic situations in the Creator theme. You seem to take the position that gay people are OK but you don't think they should be explicitly included in toys. Holding that position is a political choice, and holding that position is not neutral when there are already plenty of straight couples on display in these toys. Leaving out gay minifigures is only neutral when there are no minifigures at all. It's also not the end of the world to make the choice to tick boxes.
  21. Fair enough, but I think I'll wait to pass judgment until there are more and better images available.
