  1. Exactly, people were foaming the mouth over the sakura bonsai one because it came with frogs in all sorts of new colours
  2. OK - and why should they be? I can't say I build much community over on apps like instagram. I can post a comment somewhere or message someone one-on-one or in a small group, but over there I don't go back to the same threads or subforums to engage in meaningful discussion with people. Of course! I have to say I don't have even the faintest idea what you mean.
  3. Chiming in with a side note - there's no algorithm at play here, unlike on youtube or reddit. Over there if you want to find something, you have to hope the site will serve it to you unless you have a bookmark or exact title. In addition, I feel there's very little community on reddit, while it does feel like a community here - not least because we can have substantive arguments without devolving into flame wars. And yet when EB staff say they can't go into specific details of the site's relationship with TLG, you say that's too much to handle and one of the reasons you don't hang out here?
  4. I have to say I'm always grateful for dedicated staff members who keep this forum going, and that's no less true for you. In particular, I appreciate that you've been so communicative in recent years about server issues and so forth whenever I see a little problem with the site.
  5. Well that's disappointing. But we are our own forum and can do our own things.
  6. Interesting thoughts. I remember the drama on classic-space around nnenn and the 'mutant hive' in about 2008 or 2009. I also remember my little sister had a bucket of megabloks that were not only in disgusting colours but didn't click well with legitimate LEGO bricks. I think I'll stay away from providing an opinion.
  7. I like it! It's got all the right setpieces, it's got the right look. The sized-down X- and Y-wings look just great too. A loving recreation in every way!
  8. It's gorgeous. Nothing else really to say. The tiny offsets on the hull are great, the docking bay is perfect, just wow!
  9. I think 2000 is up there. Knight's Kingdom and Arctic were mindblowing for my little brain at the time.
  10. Sometimes some of these wacky sets have a great price per part. I think some of the complaints have to do with the theme. There were those Star Wars sets a few years ago that let you swap wings and fuselages of a few different vehicles: that's OK. If it's City, apparently it's not. The remix feature doesn't appeal to me particularly to be honest, but the builds themselves look solid. That's a sick submarine!
  11. Surely it has to be the headlight brick. Released 1980, opened a whole world of new building possibilities.
  12. Sets like the Friends cafe, Yellow Submarine, the original Ecto-1, the Goonies, etc.: all Ideas
  13. I meant more like the promo is meant to be on until tomorrow, and there was no mention of the GWP even when it was possible to backorder the Creel house. I guess it's gone and being memoryholed
  14. Now that I've seen the new season and looked up the set, I'm a bit disappointed to see it's already sold out online (and at my nearest physical shop). Any news on whether the GWP is coming back?
  15. I few weeks I presented the Old West Carriage but that was really a distraction from (or accompaniment to) this project. Inspired initially by Eva Miller's boardinghouse in 'Salem's Lot, where Ben Mears rents a room with a view on the top floor. Inspired to an extent also by Heaven's Gate and Blood Meridian. Enjoy! Technique for the chairs taken from Michael Jasper. Thanks for looking!
  16. Now and then I see one of these old Bentleys puttering around and they always turn one's head. Nice build - although I'd recommend blacking out the front grille (including the 1x2 bracket plate), or perhaps instead using the chrome grille tiles.
  17. The colour works really well. It's a creative build and I rather like the minifig-shaped rocks underneath one of the islands. Based on the beard, is it mean to be one of the Ninjago characters?
  18. Yep, what a good scaling up and reimagining of the original! I love that you've left the back open to access the interior - really helps with the playability of the whole MOC, and I like your choice to leave some (random?) studs bare on the ground floor to resemble rough stones. Maybe I should do something with my copy of the GWP?
  19. Thank you all for your kind words! I hope this cutout view helps somewhat - there's no interior as such as all the space is given over to laminating plates together to achieve the SNOT in the 5-wide geometry.
  20. At the risk of necro-posting, I've been watching lots of movies lately. The most recent one is the 'ultimate cut' of Watchmen.
  21. And even besides any 'negative noise' there are creators out there whose raison d'etre seems to be to get projects built as Ideas or Bricklink sets. Exhausting.
  22. Yes, it's remarkably irritating. In the meantime I'm just reporting every such thread I see.
  23. Thank you @GeoBrick for the compliment! It's hardly my idea really - I think all the best LEGO cars and trains out there are 7-wide or even even larger (odd numbers only!), and if you squint the wheels make this carriage 7-wide also.
  24. What a cool project on a massive scale... is that Arabic sign on the last photo brick-built? I can't quite tell. I miss Brickfair - went to my one and only edition back in 2008....
  25. I had a good time flicking through the days. Glad everyone's having fun and there was some good suspense to be had!
