Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
jimmynick replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Ah, I see, the W thing. Sorry I didn't get it at first. -
You just don't seem to get the point that several have repeated in this thread, which is the way you interact with a set is different from the way I would interact with a set, or how a child would. You can't browbeat people into submission because other people's experiences are just as valid as yours. In all I find it quite embarrassing that grown adults should get so het up over something that is literally a toy.

Meanwhile, I thought the building was the Chicago Board of Trade: -

Apart from losing the will to live? No, I screwed it up, it's my fault. -

@Kwatchi, pretending to have a plan on Day One and not following through on it can bite you in the megablocks; you're lucky it didn't. @Zepher, @Kintobor, the way you ganged upon me on Day Two was some of the most insidious stuff I've ever seen. -

I fondly remember getting my 7101 lightsaber duel at Sainsbury's such a long time ago! Honestly I'm tired by this profusion of threads that go "X isn't to my taste, therefore it is bad".

[MOC]: Lego Insects: A Ladybug, Butterfly, and a Dragonfly
jimmynick replied to Rail Co's topic in Special LEGO Themes
These insects are very sweet, and they remind me of the Birds project that Ideas released several years ago. I'm not convinced by the use of 1x1 round plates instead of square ones in the butterfly, but it looks just like the ones I see outside, so well done there. I think the dragonfly would be improved if you offset the wings - the top and bottom wings of real dragonflies aren't stacked one above the other. Good work, and thanks for sharing! -

I think they planned it perfectly - I am very keen to have the Lando figure, but I would feel ambivalent about purchasing the snowspeeder were it not for that figure's inclusion. -

Hard agree here - UCS contours, playset size, excellent minifigures - big success for TLG. And, as you mentioned, the podracer. I'm in love -
Love the front stairs, with the base of the panels peeping through as rails. It's very impressive, too, that you've built an interior into it, but I wonder what kinds of geometry you could achieve if you focused exclusively on the exterior? Plate offsets for doors, etc?
-
I agree with Kristof; everything you've built is perfect in shape and colour, but we need a bit more of it. Looking at pictures of Theed on the web, the buildings clearly stand out whereas here they sort of blend in. I think the issue might be that you've built trees using the 1x1 plant stem and 1x1 flower studs, but they are just too large compared to the buildings. Perhaps represent the trees using just the 1x1 flower studs?

You can always paint your wall a sky blue and cover it with sponged-on clouds, then grey rectangles for buildings. @MrBrickMan has pointed out a good option, but you could also consider products for our model railroad brethren. A site such as Backdrop Warehouse (not an endorsement! Any other would do as well) has a variety of products, from city skylines to nature scenes, and even just clouds. If you go the model railroad route, you'll want a product designed for O scale.

jimmynick replied to derEselausErgste's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It's really coming along! You're doing a good job varying the textures of the walls using colours, profile bricks, beams and differerent shapes on the profile bricks. I look forward to seeing the next steps! Ja, das passt gut. -
Hi! Glad to see the project is back up and running again. I love the rear & stairs of this new modular (and that terrace above the front door) but the bay window looks a bit half-hearted. Keep up the good work!

I too love Zuckuss, but more for his utility towards KOTOR scenes than for his turn in ESB. -
I find the Western Saloon, Lego Story and old-fashioned roadster particularly strong, followed closely by the antique fire engine and Löwenstein Castle. Shame I can't put my money where my mouth is for all of them!

Rarest set, polybag, piece or minifigure that you own

It seems that the non-LUL Mace Windu from 2006 is the rarest minifigure I own. -

I was thinking about that, too. Sure, these sets tend to have more pieces over time (compare 7190 to 4504 and 7965), but my 6209 has just over 500 parts, and I can't imagine how the new one can have twice that. I wonder if it'll fit somewhere in between the previous system models and the UCS Slave I? -
It's the nostalgia talking, isn't it?

I really enjoyed BlacKkKlansman; hope it wins best picture. Didn't even make it!

Definitely a good start for a "noob project" - I love the arrow loops and the buttresses. Keep up the good work, @derEselausErgste! -
Wow - using the Mixel pieces to arrange the almost seamless rockwork is a very clever idea. Those power burst shields are perfect as traces of magic. Great MOC!
-
Now THAT is interesting - the rock raiders teal on the falcon is sexy, and the modded cockpit is great, too. Keep up the good work!
