  1. I would have had no idea who that is if it wasn't for google. Interesting idea with the cheese slopes. The folder isn't public yet, so I will have to check back to see the SNOT techniques.
  2. I really like the Benny's SSS update without the gimmicks. I think I will do that to mine whenever I get around to building it. I was never into classic space (it was before my time) but it still seems like a nice set either way. Keep up the good work.
  3. Brick built Smaug is the way to go anyway since most people were upset by how small the LEGO version was in comparison. I don't own the set (I do want it, but agree with others that the price is ridiculous), so I'm sure I would be impressed by the scale of Smaug, but ultimately he would need to be bigger. And I have seen many brick built versions that are impressive. With that said, I have hardly seen any Hobbit sets around me at stores. There have been none at Wal-Mart since they were released and I've only seen a few of the smaller sets at the local Targets. I'm guessing either it didn't sell well OR the stores just didn't order very many for the latest wave (which in turn could be because of the previous sets poor sales records). Which is bothersome since I don't own the largest 3 of the Hobbit sets. I was going to pick them up for my birthday in December, but ended up needing the money for bills instead. And with recent Target clearance prices, I picked up way too many to be able to swing Hobbit sets at full price.
  4. Ninja of Fire - many online reviewers will receive LEGO sets to review. People here on EB, Brickset, Brothers Brick, FBTB, etc.... I would assume that is part of the appeal to become a top reviewer. LEGO's CEE team helps out the AFOL community because in turn we will help out LEGO's bottom line...brilliant.
  5. Finnbricker - If you really wanted to mirror the original design, you should use the new dark red masonry bricks from the Pirates line. Granted the 1x4 doesn't exist yet, but otherwise that might look really sharp.
  6. I think you'll be waiting a really long time then... Best bet is bricklink or buy a used/MISB aftermarket version... The problem there is, finding one at a decent price. Looking at brickpicker it was saying a little under $400 for a new one. Bricklink cheapest in US at least was $464. And bricklinking one together piece by piece was already $424 without shipping...so I'd look for a complete set first.
  7. VW Camper Van was an enjoyable build. When I started that I didn't have much knowledge of SNOT techniques, so how the front comes together was very clever. Also, I am unfamiliar with most LEGO vehicles, so this was more impressive to me than most sets. Otherwise, Orthanc was fun. Parts can be repetitive, but I think the end result was impressive enough for me to make up for it. The open back is fine for play value, but it would be neat to mod it to hinge it open.
  8. Well recently...Thanks to Target and Wal-Mart Clearance: B-Wing Jedi Scout Trooper Turtle Van Takedown Turtle Big Rig Escape Batman Steam Roller Ultra Agents Toxikita Ultra Agents Infearno Ultra Agents Psyclone Ultra Agents Tremor x2 Ninjago Ninjacopter And then not on clearance we picked up the Elves Adventure Ship for my daughter. We had to ask the person at Target to get them from the back since they didn't put them out yet, even though they were to be on the shelves March 1st..tsk tsk. But it looks neat and my daughter liked it.
  9. Thanks for the review. After looking at pictures, I actually want to keep mine. I bought it originally for $100 during May the 4th a few years ago, but didn't have much interest in it. This end result looks better than expected. I did end up picking up 75050 on clearance at Wal-Mart, so I guess I have multiple versions of this now..
  10. I think the added height helps it for sure, but I don't love the black roofing. I don't necessarily think dark bley would look better so to speak, but there seems to be something jarring with the black that close to the other colors. Either way, nice modification. I think I will end up doing something after I get the DO also, but not sure what just yet.
  11. It's nice that they keep putting these pieces in sets, but that piece was already available in the Pet Shop also. It is good evidence that it will remain in production for a while though.
  12. The hinges are just plates, so folding it up and putting them together will make them protrude like that. I'm confused at how that was difficult to see. Unless I'm missing something. But I thought I'd let you know my thought process anyway.
  13. Nicely done. I love Harry Potter MOCs. HP is what got me back into LEGO. During a Harry Potter community build a few years ago, I built this exact scene. I had a much more limited supply of bricks at that time though. Yours is a nice rendition. Check out my flickr for my version.
  14. Well, I looked over all of my findings with the invoice I had originally and compared it to the website and I had a handful of pieces that were overcharged. I contacted them and they passed it off as saying their prices fluctuate all of the time, even though I gave reference to what I paid and what the website says. They ended up giving me 100 VIP points instead of my money back. Technically I came out ahead since I was only outed a couple of dollars and now I have $5 reward to spend, but sometimes you just prefer the cash. The shako was recently taken out of their inventory also. I bought a handful of them originally, then went back to order more and it was gone. It has since been put back into the system. I know it was gone because I used the ID number directly and it said none found..very peculiar. Maybe they had enough complaints? I don't know how removing it and putting it back in would change anything though.
  15. I've never heard of Raven either, but I'll still take a figure. I like new figures.
  16. Nice pictures. It did look better than the previous version. Are iron man and captain the same as other sets? It looks like it might be the same as the tower set.
  17. Interesting idea. I actually really like the railcar and track. That is interesting. I may have to borrow that idea. My mind always thinks I have to make everything physically work, but doing something like this for a stand alone shot, makes perfect sense.
  18. so this is made from spare parts? How big is your LEGO room then, jeesh! It looks good. Not as bright as the set is. I think this would sell better for adults, but I think the other one sells better for children because of the colors...although put Elsa on anything and it will sell these days.
  19. Does anyone else think the Ultron helmet from the cheap Iron Man/Ultron set would work as Captain America's helmet? Seriously, look at it. Give it the right color and some printing on the sides (if possible) and it gives the same rounded appearance his head looks like. Probably print his head to incorporate a strap similar to how Flash's head is. I think this would be much smoother than the Flash helmet people keep clamboring for. The moment I opened the package, that is all I could think of. I'm not even using it for Ultron drones. It doesn't fit with that for me.
  20. I think they meant, April existed in the TV and movie show, so 2 versions of April, yet 0 of Casey Jones. I would have enjoyed more familiar characters from my youth. I only bought the 3 sets I needed in the first wave to get the complete line-up of turtles, splinter, and shredder. I don't care that much about April. But that means wave 2, I didn't bother with the series. I didn't need underwater variants or any of those wacky villains. Had they released Bebop and Rocksteady and Casey Jones, I certainly would have purchased more, or even the bigger android body Kraang walked around in. I passed entirely on the movie series. Those turtles were too ugly. Not sure what they were thinking. So it makes sense why the line is no more based on sales figures...but that doesn't mean they weren't finishing the line anyway due to other contractual agreements. SB has shifted a few times already hasn't it. Maybe Nickelodeon is hard to work with?
  21. So are these summer Batmans the same torso print as the winter wave? I see boot printing for the August sets, but are they the same otherwise? I'm torn. The sets look okay, figures look good, but I didn't know of that justifies the price. Having so many repeats in jokerland bothers me. I'm glad I bought those variants of the characters already.. .. if I wouldn't have had them, this set would be a no brainer, but now very questionable since if mostly just want robin and beast boys hair. I've never heard of him out starfire until this set. I don't care for beast boys head.
  22. I plan on doing something similar. Have the door centered, but also have the south centered above it. Then space the second floor windows out differently.
  23. I thought people have said the support jumper doesn't crack legs if you do it correctly. You have to push down on the back while putting on and taking off the figures. It must create a slight gap to allow the legs to be positioned correctly.
  24. I think that Groot is perfect sized. Is it smaller than the official version? In the movie, Groot is easily much taller than everyone else, so it makes sense to have this. I may have to look for this figure somewhere. I don't love the official version that came out.
  25. I think also...it is a kid's toy. It may be <insert that tiresome argument>, it may not have adult appeal...it isn't designed for anyone above the age limit on the box basically...
