  1. The snow has arrived in the mountains! The family has arrived to spend the Christmas holidays at their mountain home. Everything here is wonderful! A charming little house covered in white snow is perfect for spending the holiday season. There's also a cozy kiosk selling hot chocolate, pastries, and much more! Here, time seems to have stopped; everything is calmer and quieter than the frenetic city life. The children play snowball fights, build a snowman, and play on the swing; Dad chops wood for the fireplace, and Mom calls everyone because she's craving hot chocolate! The house is very cozy, with a dining room with a kitchenette, a table and chairs, a crackling fireplace, and a Christmas tree. The first presents are already under the tree! Going up the stairs, you reach the first floor with a small living room, another elegant fireplace, a comfortable sofa, ornamental plants, and the parents' bedroom. Another staircase leads to the attic, where the children's bedroom is located, complete with two beds, toys, and a door leading to a small bathroom. In this house, it's easy to have fun, rest, and relax while waiting for the big Christmas day! The house can be divided into three different levels, and in the attic, you can even remove part of the roof and chimney to better observe the interior details. The base on which the house rests consists of two 32x32 baseplates with a hot chocolate stand and an outdoor table, a children's game, a sleigh ride, and a small Christmas tree with presents and Christmas decorations. The big surprise is that inside the base there are eight moving parts, manually activated by a single side lever! An additional motor can also be connected. This Christmas-themed moc also introduces my own moc series called the "SDRnet Winter Collection" which, of course, also includes the Winter Chalet base. New MOCs related to this collection may arrive in the future. Flick Gallery here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdrnet/albums/72177720334860758 Comments are welcome! Thank you Sandro
  2. Previously in the story: Bull's Eye (Prelude) This still takes place long before Raavage Davok: "We gathered our forces rather quick, and then marched for Falconstone. The supply train would arrive later, 'cause I wanted my vanguard to move freely.". "We were only halfway through the Frozen River fords, when some riders blocked our path." Unpleasant encounter (1) by David de Rijke, on Flickr "Three riders from unknown origin where standing in the river. One of them was their leader, obviously. He seemed to be some sort of wizard scum, given his hat and his staff from which icy sparks were coming. Never liked this kind.. The worst part, was their faces. They did not seem to have any..." "The wizard could speak, however. Immediatly when we saw these fellows, I raised my shield and took a defensive position. I saw my men do the same while my chieftains looked at me what to do. But the wizard told us about that messenger I spoke at the Bull's Eye. He said they were sent to help us. They lowered their weapons to prove it. I started to get an uneasy feeling about this whole mission. Who was our client, and why did he venture with wizards of this kind? Might he be some sort of wizard himself? And WHO is this stranger, if his value is so big these... powers... are sent in to deal with it?"
  3. Hi everyone, I'd like to share with you my diorama for this year, It's the first time I've created such a thing and it's been a lot of fun and joy..and some frustration, because I wasn't sure I was going to finish it before Christmas. Luckily, I did. For some reason, I wasn't able to upload the photos here, but here's a link to my flickr album. The quality of the photos could be better, but I still hope you'll enjoy them, Happy Holidays!
  4. Hello everyone, I would like to show you my first MOC, except things I build as a "grom". 5. I’ve always liked the classic Ice Planet theme that LEGO made, and after looking at Chris Perron’s incredible Ice Inspector and Siercon and Coral’s magnificent Ice Planet Base, I wanted to try my hand at a build in the classy blue, white, and trans-neon orange colors. I’m quite pleased with the result, and it was very enjoyable to build. The micro truck outside the main base is supposed to be a rendition of Chris’s monstrous Ice Inspector that I linked to earlier in the post, though unfortunately I wasn’t able to pack in all the details on it that I would have liked to. Hopefully it is still recognizable as being inspired by his masterpiece though! This build was my first time trying to incorporate lights into a model, which was both fun and frustrating at times. I’m pretty happy with the result, but if anyone has tips or suggestions about ways to improve it, definitely let me know! I also want to give huge thank-you to Graham Gidman for helping me out with the edit, I know it wouldn’t have turned out this well without his help! Lots more pictures on Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, C&C welcome!
  6. After the recent events in Beggar's Inn, as many messengers as possible had been dispatched, to every corner of the guilds. One messenger, going near the Frozen Beyond to inform the small outposts there for the peril of the coalition of the Algus and the Spire, was not that smart. Not being a native Mitgardian, he grew very cold, and thus he made a fire, out in the open. From a nearby Algus outpost, a Can'gru Chariot was dispatched quickly. Those strong but quick beasts had been cultivated by the Algus long ago, and were used nowadays not only for meat, but also as mounts and beasts of burden. the Can'gru, even though they look so herbivorelikely cute, always hunger for fresh meat. The poor messenger is their incentive to bring their Algus masters to their superiors, to hand them the message. Algus interception by David de Rijke, on Flickr
  7. Just a quick 30 minute LUG speed-build that I liked enough to take pictures of and post. One of the main things I wanted to try with this build was the transition from tan to dark tan on the edges of the path, to give the impression of slush. A Mitgardian trapper goes for a walk in the early morning, after a freshly fallen snow. More pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, C&C welcome
  8. No one remembers how it started. So many have died, but we have been lucky,,,so far. This bunker saved us, it's cold and dank, but secure. We have even managed to grow vegetables, it's almost becoming a home.
  9. Here's a small scene featuring a couple mounties trudging down the lane after a recent snowstorm. I've made a tutorial on how to make these trees here:
  10. Hello My ripsaw, inspired by Fast Furious 8 (but not a copy). Since Buwizz can handle 2x Buggy motors, I decided to build light and powerful tracked vehicle for snow. Vehicle for fun! Movie was filmed 3 month ago. We have summer now. TURN ON ENGLISH SUBTITLES I am not the first here with such powerful tracked vehicle. I can confrim that it is useless toy and hard to control. Thing for fun:) more photos http://bricksafe.com/pages/rm8/ripsaw Thank you for watching!
  11. This is my own rendition of the snow speeders from Hoth. This took less than a day to build, because it is a lot like the actual lego set. This is a view of it in another moc Here is a better picture This is the back view. I like it. Side view!! Follow me for other cool mocs! i don't have an Ladd file but it's an easy build and you can guess how it works?
  12. Good day! Today I present to you my newest MOC - a Snowmobile! This MOC uses my Heavy Duty Track cocept , which looks to perform really well on carpet. There's not much to tell , it is under-powered by 2 m-motors and steering by another m-motor. The drive motors can be changed to l-motors without any problems , it should perform much better with them. There's no snow where I live , so I wasn't able to test it outside Here's the LDD file ( click! ) and Bricksafe gallery Any remarks or opinions are welcome
  13. High up in the Mitgardian peaks a small village thrives on the freezing environment. To protect themselves from raiders they built a small castle to keep (pun intended but still not funny :P) watch. The castles position makes it a hard place to take and easy to defend. No siege could last in this frigid environment. This weather does not bother the inhabitants of the village as cold is all they will ever know. So life carried on in the isolated village of FimbΕ―lvatr, that is until the drow missionary came. Not soon after did the Nocturnus resistance have a new enemy to fear... CCC XIV - Ice castle (or a castle built in the snow) It's here at last, after a build time that took way to long and three photo shoots I am finally ready to post one of my best creations yet. The round tower was loads of fun to achieve and the rock work was incredibly difficult to get right. The landscape itself probably took up half the build time. The Tudor work was challenging but it came out alright imo. For some reason I have been putting off building this and I now have a large collection of spaceships in my room I didn't edit it because when I did it looked rather awkward so i thought it better to just leave it as it is. Also my first entry for the CCC with more on the way. I know this will be up against massive and amazing entries (cough cough SK) but I had the idea and knew I had to build it. Hope you enjoy :D Sorry for lack of commenting, its becoming a habit
  14. First snow (1) by David de Rijke, on Flickr and a (poorly) edited version, just to try it out :) patrol4 by David de Rijke, on Flickr First snow (2) by David de Rijke, on Flickr First snow (3) by David de Rijke, on Flickr For this one, I wanted to try to make a smooth snowscape. I added the footprints by having a few studs, I think it turned out fine. The fence is a last-minute addition, as I was buying stuff for sinterklaas when I saw black thread, so I bought that. Alas I do not have any kind of photo editing program left on my laptop, yet with the camera of my 'new' used phone I think I did better than before concerning photography :P Also I found some tricks to enhance the lighting in my room.
  15. Hi! This is my third MOC, it's a Pagoda Temple on a little creek. I wanted to build a winter situation, with the temple on a rocky base. I don't know if i do a good job with the rock, I'm not convinced. Also the water, there are some trick to improve it? What do you think? I can improve it? (sorry for bad english)
  16. My 9th entry into the CCC XIV, for the β€˜Ice Castle’ category. Credit for the tree design goes to Legopard. I didn’t really think I was going to do an entry for the castle category this year, but after looking at several wooden castles from various people, I decided to give it a try. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. The story continues one that Isaac started here. One of the first visits Glorfindel made was to the nearby village of Balkr. Since it was nearby, and the jarl, Torkild, was good friends with Karsten it seemed like a logical starting point. Also for these reasons, Karsten allowed the twins to go with Glorfindel and Dedan. Eryl and Elise were enjoying the little excursion, and Glorfindel was glad to have a chance to spend some time with his nephew and niece. Upon arriving at Balkr, Glorfindel and Dedan were welcomed by jarl Torkild and went into the long house to discuss their news. "Feel free to explore the village, but stay close by, we shouldn't be long," Glorfindel said to the twins. They soon found several village children and a shortly after a vigorous snowball fight was underway. As they had expected, Torkild was quite willing to keep a close eye on the Nocturnus border. In fact, from the look of things in the village, he already had been strengthening the town watch. Upon exiting the hall, Glorfindel was almost hit by a snowball! Laughing, he glanced at the playful kids and saw that one of the village children had just been clobbered by a large snowball. "Sorry to break up the party, but I'm afraid we need to head back to Harburg now." "Alright Uncle Fin," Eryl answered reluctantly, "thanks for playing Toke and Stefan!" More build pictures: And as usual, you can find more on brickbuilt. Thanks for looking
  17. Sir Glorfindel goes for a peaceful walk in the snow with his loyal husky. Snowy landscapes are one of my favorite things to build, and they are something you don’t see all that often in the LEGO community. I made this MOC to serve as a tutorial for snow-scapes. Hopefully it's helpful, and comments/suggestions for the build are welcome
  18. I thought the polar bear Chima figs fit well in Mitgardia, particularly the Frozen Beyond, so I built a ice/snow fortress for them. "Svellbjorn" means ice-bear in Norse. The corner stone technique was borrowed from Andrew JN. The Svellbjorn are natives of the Frozen Beyond in Mitgardia, though their tendency to rarely venture outside their territory keeps their existence relatively unknown. Some hunters are bringing in a shark. And a fun shot, with a bit of glare off the 'ice': There are a few more pictures on brickbuilt. I may do more with the Svellbjorn in the future, I imagine them to be enemies of the Algus. C&C welcome
  19. My entry to Category C of the Frozen Beyond Contest Before the Algus arrived, Morkerna was a bright isle, warm and peaceful. But then the Algus came. Morkerna has been reduced to a frozen wasteland. And it is to this scene that I come, returning from my adventures in Mitgardia. The land is desolate, cold, destroyed. Anger brews within me as I turn and see a pair of Algus walking toward me. I look for anything I could use as a weapon, but there is nothing. Frustrated, I grab the first thing I find - a flower - and throw it at them. The two stop. A horrified expression comes to their face. Could it be? I grab another blossom and throw it. And, to my utter surprise, it happens again: the algus seem stunned. Grinning, I begin bombarding them with flowers, watching as they fall to the ground, moaning. It seems that the way to defeat death is through life. This was a fun pair of builds! Showing both how the Algus are changing the weather and how to stop them is a challenging task to combine together, so I decided that the former half would be most effectively captured with a before and after. I was originally going to try to do a minifigure scale version of the watermill for the "after" scene, but I couldn't come up with a waterwheel design that I liked (and it ended up that I wouldn't have had time for that idea anyway), so I decided to replicate part of the landscape in the back corner instead. The second build (snowy scene) was quite rushed, but I'm still quite pleased with how the snow and rocks turned out, and I learned from last time to use a blue background The snow and rocks are both surprisingly complex, with tons of SNOT and offsetting. At one point while building the rocks, half of it exploded, and the complexity was so great that I actually had to look at a WIP photo to see how it all went together (and even with the photo, it was still tough to figure out how to put it all back together) The other MOC was designed around that house design, which I came up with during the summer but never actually tested until last month. This build is much more complex than it looks, which is partially why it ended up taking almost 2 months to build... The micro watermill is based on the use of a bar as a corner beam. After that, the rest comes together with some SNOTted tiles and fiddly techniques. The roof, connected with a few clips, was one of the hardest parts. I also really like the look of the river next to it; the SNOT allows for some smooth shaping, and the slope looks pretty nice too. The windmill is a bit simpler, but it was still pretty hard to get a nice tapered shape with a variety of tiny round structure techniques. (this moc is also on Lego Ideas; support it here!) Overall I'm pretty pleased with how these mocs turned out. Hope you like them
  20. And he had his revenge...
  21. I had fun experimenting with the cross bracing below the platform, and trying to simulate hay bales around the targets Even in the snow, Mitgardian archers continue their practice. There are a few more pictures on brickbuilt. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, I should be posting the second phase fairly soon
  22. Davok: "Long before the rise of Raavage, in the days after Revolword's defeat, a messenger arrived at the Bull's Eye, in these days not more than a mere outpost for our compagny" Bull's Eye by David de Rijke, on Flickr "The messenger, no one remembers anything of what he looked like, demanded to speak with the present highest in rank, which happend to be the Bull's second in command, me. It appeared to be confidential, so we sat together in the higher room of the tower" Bull's Eye by David de Rijke, on Flickr "To make a long story short: Some high guy wanted to hire us. The messenger seemed to say 'Victor' at a given point, but stopped abrupt and looked scared for a moment. Well, to the point. Our mission: Falconstone to the south gave hospitality to a stranger that was brought there under heavy escort. They seem to not know the danger of this man. Our client told us how this man has escaped the sack of the Dark Wizard's, and that he is a dangerous wizard himself. Those falcons wouldn't believe us, I can tell in advance. They never have been keen to see logic... We have to siege Falconstone, and kill this man. The reward? Bigger than you can ever dream off." Bull's Eye by David de Rijke, on Flickr Bull's Eye by David de Rijke, on Flickr (Here we go... A long way to go, and the story is already paving its path in my mind. Where this will end, I don't know :D) (This is a quite old build, and I have great news: got a new camera and new adjustments to my room that will be used for my next build :D) (The guy with the kanjiclub torso is the younger version of my sigfig, Davok ^^) (oh my god... while trying to play with revolword's name, I discovered its origin ONLY NOW... quite a slow catch)
  23. Edit: I didn't realize the Alien's fleet was at F09 where I originally posted this build, so I'm moving it to C10 Marden. Location: C10 Marden Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle Last time, in Ender's story: Season 1 Season 2 A Man and His Dog Hamilton The Puffin Fight Night! Roomba Robot The Scurrier I Spy... ...Something Green and Red Inspired Action Sudden Geyser Galaxy Transport The Bentley Wheel Well Sushi Chef Ender had been exploring one of the mountains on Arium Minor when his dog Yankee ran off. They were near the summit of one of the mountains and there was so much snow around it was hard to see where Yankee had gone. Ender finally cornered Yankee. And he was about to grab him and head back to base. But all of a sudden, the ground fell out from beneath him!
  24. Already two years ago, I got inspired at defeating steep hills with the LiteJeep. That could already beat 50 degrees, but because of its high riding height (good for offroading) and relatively heavy PF L motors, I reckoned there would be more irons to put into the hill-climbing fire. Very important things for hillclimbing are sufficient grip, huge power and a low weight. Weight ultimately gives more grip, but it also causes the vehicle to flip earlier when it is located above the center of gravity. With these factors into the equation, I decided to create a vehicle with loads of grip, so with 4 rubber tracks, and with articulated steering to make a sturdy connection between right and left possible, which is essential for climbing: when any vehicle is climbing, the suspension does unexpected things, so a stiff frame and suspension setup are required. Lightweight design requires a low complexity too, so that is why articulated steering is chosen. Having a front and rear part to let the vehicle adjust its shape to the terrain is an option I used several times in my rubber-tracked vehicles. This is the first vehicle in which I used the maximum footprint instead of the triangular form, again for maximum grip. Please note that, when you choose for the sturdyness and simplicity of articulated steering Γ‘nd want to let it adjust to the terrain, the middle joint becomes very complex as it contains joints in two axes! There is always a place where pain comes back. The Law of Conservation of Pain holds here.. In this case, all the trouble was in the difficult joint, which took about 5 hours alone. Then for the power: initially an XL motor was used in the front, but having a driveshaft through the already complex dual joint proved to be impossible. And then the idea came. Why not generate the power at the place where it is needed? Why not, if there are two separate parts, have some powerplant in both front and rear? But then there was a problem: I have a very large project in which all my three L motors are used. This pushed me in the direction of using M-motors, which proved out to be a very good forced choice. Combined with the lightness of the overall model, they proved to have ample torque left with a 3:1 gear ratio, having enough torque to keep the four tracks spinning all time when grip was lost. This is amazing, and you can see why Lego has put two M motors in their latest Tracked Racer. But the limits of that thing are way lower than the Quattrack's limit. Using two PF medium motors for drive and one for steering, this one of my very few (and maybe the last) Lego Technic MOC with only 2006 components. The Sbrick will throw all range headaches away and have much less delay than the stone-age PF IR remote it is replacing. Why did I use such standard power functions components? The new PF servo is slow and quirky, a medium motor allows for much more smoothness in steering. Moreover, if you are driving at steep slopes like this, it asks all your concentration to keep it on the move. If you cannot feel where the remote control knobs are (The intrinsic problem of the Sbrick) the vehicle will fall of before you've compensated. So the old system proved to be the best system in this situation. The articulated joint actually contains 3 joints, to have a suspension force on it in both directions: up and down. That is why there are rubber bands and one shock absorber. By the way, also the steering joint is included. Now, because the front and rear part of the Quattrack are relatively conventional (no steering nor differentials), all the pain of good and accurate steering is shifted to the design of this central joint. I dare to state that the success of this vehicle relies for a big part on this 2D joint. In the video, the operation is explained. On this photo, it looks as if the ground clearance is half a stud. This is not the case; in fact, it is over 1 stud. The underside is very smooth, which helps the low superstructure to glide over obstacles. Because of the weight saving, I designed it to have very clean looks. Styling means more weight. However, I managed to squeeze in some little details like fake cabin flashing lights, front lights, rear lights, cabin seats and a steering wheel. The reason why I did this, is that I wanted it to be a possible real-life vehicle as well, not just a scientific experiment. Adding weight is bad for climbing ability, so I tested the Quattrack also with the cabin removed and say what !!? The climbing angle was the same. This front look shows all that. The Quattrack contains everything, but nothing more. You do not need a zillion pieces of Lego to break records. Only 556 grams of it is sufficient in some cases. The video is the proof of all my theories... [media] I have not put all text and photo's on Eurobricks. More is to be found on Brickshelf and MocPages. If you like my video's, you might want to take a look on my YouTube channel.
  25. This is my 5th entry into the Colossal Castle Contest XIV, for the Ice Castle category. Burg Eltz castle in Germany is one of my favorite castles, and that castle was my main inspiration for this build. My model stands 84 studs tall, and features a full interior via 2 hinging walls sections. Harburg Castle is located in the mountain range near the Nocturnus border in Mitgardia. The lord of the castle, Karsten Storrar, receives an unexpected visit from his brother Sir Glorfindel. Inside the castle the cook prepares some fresh baked goods while a few guards take their mid-day meal. "Karsten! It is good to see you again!" "Likewise, but what brings my famous little brother and Dedan the hunter to Harburg?" Karsten asked jokingly, though his tone soon shifted as he posed another question, "New tidings of the Algus in the North?" "No, the Kylma Katsella and new fortifications seem to be holding back those foes. It's danger from the east that brings me, as we've heard many reports of the Black Spire's influence in Nocturnus growing stronger. Naturally, Harburg's location on the Nocturnus border makes it an important position to have well defended. We've come to warn you and other towns and villages that their defenses should be strengthened in the face of this possible threat," Glorfindel answered. "Yes, I've heard these rumors myself and tried to prepare accordingly. Unfortunately, many of the neighboring lords and jarls feel that these rumours are unfounded." "Which is why we've come to you first," Dedan interjected, "we hoped that your influence in this region of Mitgardia might help to convince the others." "Well I'm happy to do what I can, though of course you understand the difficulty of the situation. The recent Algus threat has already weakened most towns and villages, as they sent supplies and men to fortify the North. But enough of this gloomy talk, come! The twins will be thrilled to have a visit from their uncle, and I'm sure Karin will be pleased to see you as well." And with that, the group headed into the protection and welcoming warmth of the keep. On a white backdrop: There are plenty more pictures on brickbuilt. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, and am looking forward to developing more stories with Glorfindel's family. C&C always welcome
