Maybe it shows a lack of class, but I'd prefer his red Lotus Esprit Turbo.

Well, now you're speaking my language. I'll take a theme full of stuff like that.

I've never really scrutinized it before, but it's an interesting hybrid. I like that it's mostly brick built. I think I would prefer it totally brick built though. I guess it's "totally brick built" if you consider the legs bricks. I dunno...

This whole argument is just ridiculous. It's the same bad faith hateful garbage Space fans have seen trotted out forever now. 1) "Space is an outdated theme that should be relegated to the past." This is a stupid argument. We have Star Wars sets still being cranked out. Those are 40+year old designs. Are those outdated? Should those be relegated to the past? Apparently not. Would a modern Space theme use the same designs as 40 year old sets? Of course not. Just look here for pages and pages of amazing neo-Classic Space designs that fans have come up with. 2) "Space fans suck and just trash all the space themes that come out anyway so they should get nothing." The real problem here is people think they should be able to TELL Space fans what we should want, instead of just listening to us and ACCEPTING that we want certain things. This happens every time new sets come out. "Hey, Mars Attacks sets are out. Space fans, you're gonna shut up now right? This is EXACTLY what you want, RIGHT?" Of course, every time, we have to explain the obvious: "Actually, these sets take place on Earth. The theme includes only one space ship, if it even is a space ship? Unless you count flying saucers, which aren't really the same thing, and include campy, old-timey aliens. And there's no space bases, no rovers, no vividly colored windscreens, no astronauts..." And of course then the screaming replies: "You're impossible to please, you should want this, your desires are invalid, how dare you trash this theme" blah blah blah. I'm a Space fan. I bought Galaxy Squad sets. I bought Space-ish Creator sets. I bought Nexo Nights, Chima, and Ninjago sets that had some Space-ish sci-fi elements that I liked. I can appreciated non-Space Lego sets, and buy them, while still not being totally satisfied, and wanting something really in the spirit of the old Space themes. 3) "This non-Space theme came out. This is what you want. You should want it. Why don't you want it? It's Space." It's not Space. Space, capital-S, means something specific in Lego discussions. Please understand the domain if you're going to debate it. Please look here and tell me how many NASA sets you find: https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Space NASA sets are not Space. "Inspired by NASA" sets are not Space. City sets are not Space (THEY SAY CITY ON THE BOX, PEOPLE). Monkie Kid sets are not Space. Do they share some elements of classic Space sets? Sure. Do they capture the essence of classic Space sets? No. No vivid colors, no deep space exploration, not actual Sci-Fi, based on Earth? Not Space. Capiche? As a Space fan, I get to decide what I consider Space to be. I get to decide what I want in a Space set. I don't care what you think I should want.

I wish the new magnet piece was gray or black. Yellow is pretty unfriendly for MOCing, especially when MOCing something like M:Tron.

Hot damn. Beautiful!

Thank you! Disagree completely. Galactic Explorer isn't even a space ship, it's a space shuttle. It launches straight upwards from a launch tower on Earth. That's a space shuttle. I want a space SHIP. Also, it has clouds for tail fins, which makes it fantastical and even less Space-y. Also, since when is getting a space craft in a random theme count as a Space set? It doesn't. Thor: Ragnarock had a space ship. As a Lego Space fan, I don't want that. It's not a Space set, it's a Marvel set. I don't want Star Wars ships either. Exactly!

Yeah, you really need to get the NACA ducts right to nail the look of the Countach. I definitely prefer @barneius's MOC in this regard and also generally. The worst omission in the Countach set is the lack of half windows on the side doors. That's another signature detail and it's absolutely required. This should have been achieved by printings on the side of the windscreen. Sadly, the more I like a car, the more I'm going to scrutinize a Lego version of said car. I was hoping this set would be at least as good as @barneius's MOC. But like he said: Good plan!

LEGO Creator 2022 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to TeriXeri's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm down for the Delorean! -
These are all great! You have almost every faction covered. The Exploriens and Classic Space rovers caught my eye first. Really like the shapes. The Blackton II one has everything: The whimsically high wheel clearance + the detaching flight pod is just perfect!
-
Wow, neat! Reminds me of the Death Star explosion. So mad you got to this first. But yes. I mean, it has to be this.
-
Ah, of course! I should have made that connection myself. Regardless, it looks great.
-
Awesome! Love the strong color blocking between grey and white. The dish inside the cockpit looks great. Something about vertical ships are creepy! I can imagine this one just hovering silently behind me, observing with it's big single eye!
-
Awesome! I love the "Futuron Red" color scheme. Looks like a lost theme that could have been!
-
Nice! Love how this presents a vertical slice of space life. From the plumbing/air vents below to the antennae above! The transition from gritty/utilitarian to shiny white is sweet. I also really like the speeder -- the placement of the printed slope is perfect. And I like the non-standard Futuron guy with red visor. He could have walked over from the Elysium base that @CP5670 just posted here!
-
Thanks Inventor! That's a cool idea. I might have to come back to it! The MOC I'm working on now isn't Blackton. But really, all "combiner" space ship MOCs should be able to recombine with others, right? I guess for that you just need a standardized docking attach point. The ol' "technic pin in technic hole" docking design in Classic Space was pretty solid but I kinda like clips instead these days.

I agree with that. The newest TIE is so good, and so cheap.

The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?

I don't think anyone is saying it's a problem. -
The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
danth replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You answered your own question. SW fans have most likely been buying LEGOs for years. That's a good way to go from Star Wars fan to LEGO fan generally. Also SW fans are more likely to be into toys/models already which of course could mean LEGO. EDIT: Although I can see SW fans being the epitome of collecting licensed sets generally. I mean, the biggest most expensive sets of all time are called Ultimate Collectors Series and they're (almost?) all Star Wars. Isn't that exactly what we're complaining about? This isn't really a counter argument. Not sure if you meant it to be. -
The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?

Don't worry, I knew exactly what you meant. I was saying that Lego made that up, as an excuse. And I have just as much proof of that, as Lego has that parents actually complained. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Galaxy Squad was really an awesome theme. The designs were fantastic, and I really appreciated the inclusion of combiner gimmicks. The insects were neat too. I actually think the theme was better than I realized when it was out. Although I prefer colored windscreens, I realize it would have been awkward for a theme with colored teams. Would the red team have trans-red windscreens and so on? That might look silly, I dunno. And the insects had some cool transparent colors anyway. The whole curvy vs angular thing wasn't even on my radar until Benny's Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship. I think I read at the time that it purposely used angular pieces to look retro. I don't see the original angular look as an intentional design thing, just a limitation of the time. It's annoying being dismissed, but I get it might be annoying to here my complaints all the time. But what else can I do on a Sci-Fi Rumors thread if there are no Sci-Fi themes? 😁 (And yes I know there are Sci-Fi elements in Action/Licensed themes but those are different sub-forums). -
The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
danth replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think that's a made up excuse, personally. In my 2.5 decades of being on the internet, I've never read this complaint, and have only read people fondly remembering the back-of-the-box alt builds. -
Yeah, super cool that someone at Lego seems to be aware of the fan base's demand for animal molds and is delivering. And heck yes to farm sets.
