Which Lego YouTube channels are best these days?
danth replied to Lego Mike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That totally makes sense and I remember him talking about some of that stuff. I have no problem blaming COPPA/Youtube. Bummer for Jang. -
Well, I haven't cared about Monkie Kid at all yet, and don't really love its aesthetics as a theme, but I do really like Chang’e Moon Cake Factory. Basically a perfect Classic Space set but with a whimsical rabbit theme. I can't not like it.

I used to really like Jang and his videos were so chill, just him talking about sets. His voice was calming. Then he seemed to go through some crisis and didn't make videos for a while. Then when he came back it was different. All about getting his face into every video and making himself a brand. He doesn't seem as happy as he used to be. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Chang'e Moon Cake Factory is sooo good. The Rabbit mech & carrot rocket are hilarious and cute, and it's very evocative of the old Rocket Base set. It's also very obviously In Space in the Classic Space sense, on a crater-covered surface. Nice. -
I didn't mean to imply that you weren't welcome here. I meant that people complaining about the lack of Space/Sci-Fi sets in the Sci-Fi sub-forum are not going to be satisfied by SW/Marvel sets.

I don't understand how anyone could seriously ask this question as if the answer wasn't obvious. What Space themes has Lego released in the past? Go look at them. That's what we want, updated for the present year of course. This isn't the Star Wars or Licensed sub-forum.

MOCs are not a substitute for sets
-
Probably because City/Town has never languished in non-existence.

I really love these. I would buy multiples of this if Lego were to make a similar set. I was hoping for something like that Space set for recent gift with purchase sets.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 22. Rumors and discussion
danth replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My ranking: Bard seems to be the stand-out best. I really like the Forest Spirit too. I consider him a gnome type fellow. Love the acorn had and other accessories. The raccoon girl is also great because who doesn't love trash pandas? Snow Warrior is cool -- looks like a Hun warrior decked out for higher elevations. The Classic Space Alien is here because of the the torso. Otherwise seems low effort. The Moon Warrior should have been something we can make sense of, like a Dark Elf. Darker skin, lighter hair, and some elf ears would have made this one an instant winner. through whatever - meh -
Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

I don't think that's how it works. If they only planned to use the mold for one set, it was probably a cheaper mold that wouldn't need to stand up to millions of uses. And if it was cheap enough to create the mold for one set then, it mostly likely is now too. Assuming they can use multiple in one set. -

Snail Face is weird...is he supposed to have a huge smile? I like the idea of a purple Classic Space minifig though. The more I think about the Target Lego Classic Space merch...it's weird that the focus is purely on the different colored figures. The shirts, gift wrap, and journal aren't really space themed at all -- they just a plain white backgrounds. It's like they're trying to make the classic astronaut a thing but separate them from the Space theme almost. It's just weird. There's one puzzle with a couple of the Classic Space ships in the background at least. -

Ah so you're saying it might be going for a brick-built moonscape type appearance. Yeah I hadn't considered that. I would expect concave craters in that case and more dust/rocks instead of the little square "panel" type markings on the tiles but who knows. It's a good thought. Good counter points. Also why would a contractual restriction not block mechanical surfaces too since that's similar to a Death Star? Well I hope you're right...I'm all in favor of the proposed cybernetic-slash-jungle-planet Space theme! And with all the Space paraphernalia we're seeing...including yet another puzzle...I'm almost feeling naive enough to get my hopes up that an actual Space set might be coming. -
All I have to say about this is: the closer we get to Fabuland 2, the better! 🤣

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Galaxy Squad and Space Police 3 were definitely Space themes, but existed a long time ago, before The Force Awakens came out and before the near constant presence of SW movies in theaters or SW series on TV that have associated Lego sets. So they either weren't affected by the hypothetical restriction or predate it. The thing about legal contracts is they are very specifically worded and those words matter. If the restriction specifically exempts space shuttles launching from Earth, which would allow for NASA style sets, then the new Monkie Kid set would be totally allowed under the exemption. You can see evidence for this language everywhere. Like the Benny's Space Squad set which curiously doesn't show the minifigs on another planet, but instead on a mechanical surface, with what looks like "shuttle launches" in the background: Or the Cyber Drone set which shows a futuristic city instead of a space background, and also has a robot instead of a human for some reason, possibly invoking multiple exemptions in the hypothetical restriction: And then you have the Space Mining Mech which very strangely doesn't even have a human pilot but totally has room for one. Probably because one of the restriction is specifically on sci-fi depictions of minifigs on other planets. Of course it's easy to see patterns where none exist so this could be all coincidence or cherry picking. I've just yet to hear a better explanation for why we don't have a Space Creator set hot on the heels of the Pirate and Castle sets. -
Whoa, cool! Love the wheels around the trans blue domes in the midsection! Looks like something that could power a warp drive!

Thank you! I find it really hard to tell if something I made myself looks goofy or cool, so I appreciate the feedback! Thanks! My pipe dream is to figure out how to get the three detaching ships to transform too. That might beyond my abilities though! Thanks friend! Robots rule! Thanks, I hope to see more people use the triangle tiles for Blacktron!

Thanks! Ha ha, the idea of the hand "holding" the command module makes me crack up because it's campy/silly but also kind cool...I like it! Thanks, the kind words mean a lot to me! I had a butt-shot of the side ships I considered posting...here's one where you can see all 4 thrusters: Thank you! Glad to hear the robot was a surprise and not totally obvious from the first few pics!

Hi all! I've finally finished a MOC that I've work on, on and off, for years. It's a redux of the Blacktron Renegade. Here's the original: I wanted to keep the overall design pretty much the same. How did I do? I named it Betrayer because a Renegade is essentially a traitor or deserter. I thought Betrayer sounded supremely evil while being synonymous with the original name. One thing that excited me a lot was using the new yellow triangle tiles to make a brick-built Blacktron logo. And I wanted to keep the original gimmick where the command ship could detach from the front, as well as the two side ships. The command ship has hidden guns! One thing that always bugged me about the original was that after you removed the command ship, you were left with the butt-end of a space ship without anything to control it. I guess you had to pretend it was computer or AI controlled at that point. Like a robot. That gave me an idea. Why not make it transform into an actual robot? I hope you like it!

Well, to follow up on my Bricklink order from Budapest that somehow shipped from the Netherlands, it arrived! I'm the USA by the way. But anyway, I started getting shipping updates soon after the order was placed, and then no tracking updates for like 10 days while it was "en route to country of destination", and then finally more updates when it arrived in the US, and then it was at my door in a few more days. And all the parts were perfect and like new, nothing messed up at all. Yay!

Whoa! I don't love it. I find most Monkie Kid designs to be too bizarre for my taste, honestly. But I'll grab those trans red parts on Bricklink! I like the sensor arrays too. We already know Lego can do shuttle launch sets so this doesn't prove anything either way, IMO. This is a firmly Earth-based set. Well spotted! Another piece to snatch from Bricklink. I'm not as optimistic about an Ice Planet revival, but it would be freaking awesome if it happened. -
You know... The real thing that endangers a trademark is when people use it to describe other brand's products incorrectly. That's what happened to Xerox, Taser, Escalator, etc. Like if everyone called every small SUV a "jeep". That's what I used to do when I was a dumb kid. A Suzuki Samurai was a "jeep" to me. Same with an old Toyota Range Rover. They looked like Jeeps, so they were jeeps to me. Or Tupperware. Any old plastic container is "tupperware" to me unless I'm really thinking about it. So instead of asking us to say something stupid like "LEGO ® brand building bricks™" in casual conversation, maybe just ask us to not refer to other brand's bricks as Lego. Except I'm pretty sure no fan of Lego would do that anyway.
