Yep. Really wish they had gone for the second forestman hat in a different color, like the original set. I guess they thought it might be weird for a girl to wear that hat and not have any hair in the back, or something? A red hat sitting inside the hideout would work but I doubt that'll be the case. I can give her a blue forestman hat though!

Knowing LOTR fans, I don't see how that could be possible. 😁 Anyway if you're talking about Uruk-hai Army it was a $30 set that now sells for $150 so I think it was probably plenty popular.

So no interest in gray & trans green, or white & trans blue, etc? Or things like Blacktron?

Ah, so that's why you didn't use those! I get you. I do like the hexagonal shape you can get with those, though.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 23. Rumors and discussion
danth replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm out of the loop -- people seem to be assuming this is a throw-back themed series. Do we know that at least, or is it total conjecture? -
I agree with all of that! Star Wars spaceships apparently have to "look like" Star Wars space ships, even if that means being ugly and grey. And because of licensing agreements, Lego has to make the sets, even if they're of ugly space ships (like the one I linked to above). And people will buy it, because they will buy anything Star Wars. Despite the words certain people may try to put in my mouth, I have never criticized the Lego designers. They do a great job at what they're tasked to do. And I'm sure, when it comes to Creator sets, they've designed basically what I'm asking for, and were told "no" by the business types. I think point we are trying to make is, being cool looking, and being something kids want, has never been a requirement for Star Wars sets, so why do people keep saying new Space sets would "look dated" or "not be what kids want"? They're describing what Star Wars sets are now. New Space sets could really nail the "what kids like" aesthetic without the baggage of pre-existing designs. Yep! Agreed so much that I already said it. 😁 I think pretty much every one I posted was somewhere between gray and white. Like, you could use either white or light bley Legos to build them and either one would work.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

I had a ton of those bullet helms and none of the cracked! Unlike the space helmets which cracked all the time. I think the bullet helms were much sturdier.- 2,976 replies

I don't think gray castles or brown ships are any more "archetypal" than grey or white spaceships with blue or any other primary color for accents. That's pretty much what every spaceship has ever been colored in a modern sci-fi movie, in Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Lightyear, etc. All of these ships look like they could exist in the same universe. There's a definite shared design sense, as if everyone (artists, producers, movie goers) agrees spaceships should look a certain way. It's an archetype. And it's basically what new Lego Space sets would look like if they came back. As for blue and gray specifically, I never said Creator Space sets should be blue and gray. It would be dumb to stick with just that scheme. There are a bunch of good classic color themes besides that. They're all good. Classic Themed Space Creator sets should use one of the old Space color schemes, though. Because why not? Then you get the AFOL Space fans to buy it as well as the people who were going to buy it anyway. My usual examples: Space Mining Mech and Cyber Drone. Space Mining Mech is frankly a pretty sucky set as it is. A trans blue canopy would make it about 10 times more visually exciting. And, you know, a minifig wouldn't hurt -- why not include a SPACE minifig? As has been proven before, people will buy the crap out of a set just to get a Space minifig. The minifig could have been Classic Space or Futuron or even Exploriens, since all had white and transparent blue schemes. Cyber drone is similar. What is it? Is it an "archetypal" sci-fi set? No. It's a weird helicopter thing with no rotor. And the color scheme sure as heck isn't archetypal; it's a reference to a one off set nobody remembers? Wow, great. Why not make it a reference to an old Space theme then? I mean, I like the set, but a Halloween-colored helicopter with no rotor and a weird robot pilot doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And it proves that being "archetypal" is NOT a requirement to get a Creator set made. But anyway...a simple color swap makes this a legit Classic Space set. Just pick any Space theme, it doesn't matter. It improves the set and gets MORE people to buy it. This is just like Lego using the Black Falcons for the Creator Castle. Black and blue colored warriors using a falcon motif is not any more archetypal than any other color scheme or animal motif. They weren't included for any other reason other than it's part of Lego Castle's legacy and Lego fans like it. For the same reason, Creator Space sets should use color themes and logos that are part of Lego Space's legacy and that Lego fans like. That means colored windscreens and known Space factions. Anyway I'm not sure I buy the whole "archetypal" color argument at all, even for Castles. Archetypal castles can be white, earthen/sandy brown, or black. And space ships can be whatever color too (yellow Naboo fighter, red Jedi Starfighter, black Tie fighters). Oh and the whole "what tests better with kids" argument. Kids don't like boring all gray everything, yet Lego keeps cranking out SW sets. Did they ask kids if they like orange and black helicopters with no rotors? I really doubt it. Do kids like this? I really doubt it. If you ask kids when creating a theme, you get something more like Nexo Knights, with colored canopies. I think this is just the excuse machine cranked up again; "Lego can't make Space because...reasons". Basically, a Creator Space set would be just like a SW or Lightyear set, except with better colors than SW. It would be just as archetypal and kids would like it fine.

I thought it might be cool to have a thread to catalog useful parts in new sets that are useful to Space MOCers. For me, the main parts I always look out for are windscreens. But of course there are all kinds of useful parts. Other categories I find important are minifig parts, joints useful in mechs, and "spacey" wheels for rovers. Anyway there are a ton of colored windscreens this year! And I'm specifically excluding trans light blue and trans black; those are City/Star Wars windscreens as far as I'm concerned. 2022 Colored Windscreen Roundup: New trans yellow windscreen: X-Wing windscreen in trans light green: Large trans orange bubble: Small trans orange Nexo Nights windscreen: Large space windscreen in trans red, and another large inverted windscreen in trans red: Trans pink bubble: Trans pink airplane canopy: Trans orange Speed Champions windscreen: Trans orange large spaceship windscreen: Trans red Speed Champions with black printing: There are also some new trans-colored panels, thanks to Friends. Useful for Space bases and larger space ships. Small window panels in trans yellow: Large window panels in trans neon green: Large window panels in trans purple:

I forgot I made this topic! But, from our mouths to Lego's ears. What we've asked for has come to pass. Classic. Themed. Creator. Sets. (you have to pronounce the periods) are thing now. You're welcome. It only took 4 years. 2020 was Pirates: https://brickset.com/sets/31109-1/Pirate-Ship 2021 was Castle: https://brickset.com/sets/31120-1/Medieval-Castle 2022 was (surprisingly?) Vikings: https://brickset.com/sets/31132-1/Viking-Ship-and-the-Midgard-Serpent This line up of course screams for an answer to the question "WTF about Space?". Maybe we'll finally get those in 2023? Or maybe it'll be the Wild West or Adventurers. Personally, I'd like to see multiple Classic Themed Creator sets each year. For instance, these two could have easily been made proper Space sets, but that opportunity was missed. Imagine a Futuron Mining Mech and Unitron Spyrius (to match the robot face print) Cyber Drone! I would have bought ten each, if not more.

I thought it was that at first too, then I thought bandana, now I don't know. Luckily I want quite a few sets launching June 1. Question; Lego will limit me to one of these GWP sets, even if I make two separate orders over $150, right? I'm assuming so.
-
Strong 6926 vibes. I always thought the back of that set should be able to attach to the detachable front ship. Looks like you fixed that!
-
Ohhhhh I totally forgot about her! Yeah, now the decision makes more sense.
-
Not often do you see a Classic Space MOC in a shape like this! Nor do you see many amphibious space ships (outside of the rare Seatron MOC). I like the tail; looks like some sort of cool warp drive or other propulsion mechanism. Creative!
-
Cool! Really liking the shape of that last one in particular. Middle one reminds me of 60224.

I guess the swords woman is wearing a bandana or something? Not at all inappropriate for a bandit type but I think we all would have preferred another forestman cap.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

I'm not seeing your entry when I click the link. Oh, yours has the purple space man. It's there if you scroll down. Supported! You know, after this Galaxy Explorer release, I might actually be tired of new Lego Space sets in blue and gray. There are so many Space color schemes and themes to pull from. White with blue windscreens, gray with green windscreens, Blacktron, M:Tron, Space Police, Ice Planet -- especially Ice Planet because it's colors are amazing. And everything past that. My dream come true would be a new Space theme with purple windscreens. Maybe even with a second color schemes for a competing faction. -
I don't even bother trying to get stickers on straight. With a lot of effort, they're 95% straight with a couple air bubbles and a bunch of dust stuck around the edges, and will eventually peel and wear. If I just slap them on, they're 80% straight with a couple air bubbles and a bunch of dust stuck around the edges, and will eventually peel and wear. I don't think it's worth the effort to get mostly the same thing. Especially since I don't like stickers anyway.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 23. Rumors and discussion

Bit of a shame all the Target Lego Space Man stuff happened when nobody could buy actual Space Legos. Seems a bit...uncoordinated. My Target hasn't gotten ANY of that stuff though. At least not before I gave up looking. -

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
danth replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I would argue that a queen is more representative of the original classic Castle sets than a king. The first Knights Joust set had what looked like a noble couple, possibly a king and queen -- they sit on throne-like chairs, but have no royal head wear. However after that, the guy disappears forever, but the woman returns in 1986 with not only her pearls, but a princess hat, and her own guarded cart full of treasure. She sure seems rich and important now! That same year she can be seen hanging out an an expensive resort, guarded by a full security team. Then in 1988, she's back watching another joust, with her royal head wear, but no male consort. Or maybe both warriors at her side are her new consorts! Anyway, it seems she ousted the king from the original joust set and seized power as queen. I think it was her revenge for making his throne bigger than hers.- 2,976 replies

This is just unbelievably, insanely awesome. LEGO is knocking it out of the park for the 90th anniversary stuff. Just wondering who I need to defeat in hand to hand combat to acquire multiple copies of these.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
danth replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Thanks for the ping! Man, this almost seems to good to be true. I wonder what to expect. I know what to expect for Creator 3-in-1 (nice main build, less nice second/third build, useful parts, creative part reuse) and Creator Expert (beautifully detailed dense builds with creative build techniques), but no idea what to expect for 90th anniversary sets. Are they going to be Creator Expert or 18+? Benny's Spaceship was 940 pieces so this is going to a third "bigger". Or maybe smaller actually, using more small parts for a more detailed build. Who knows! EDIT: If the leak is true, the Galaxy Explorer will be about as long as Benny's Spaceship. -
LEGO Creator 2022 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Major rumors of a set 10497, which many are speculating is numbered after set 497, which was the original Galaxy Explorer. This was reported by Stonewars so could be legit. https://www.stonewars.de/geruechte/lego-10497-galaxy-explorer-neuauflage-in-2022/ -
The only thing I can think of that might explain cheaper prices in the US is that people are generally poorer in the US than Europe. The middle class has been destroyed. Income disparity is higher than it's ever been and the American dream of buying your own home is basically a joke now to most young people. People are struggling to pay of student debt and scrape by. Obviously this doesn't explain things like Stuntz sets being more expensive in the US. When I saw how big and elaborate and expensive the first Monkie Kid sets were I was like "Damn, Chinese families must be doing okay."
