The disappearance of the mid-range sets
TeriXeri replied to astral brick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
3 in 1 is certainly experimenting still, it's just that this winter wave is a bit bland, summer has more potential with the carousel and townhouse/petshop sets as they are bigger and likely minifig focused. I for one would be really happy if the carousel actually had a few minifig-scale horses in it. Could have some horse stable/riding course as alternate build then. But we'll likely get brick-built instead. Pirate Rollercoaster and Treehouse Adventures have branched out into the Pirates theme a bit, so I would love if they'd expand a bit into Space or Castle that way as well if there's no main theme running. Now of course 2019 had the Lego Movie 2, and we already have an upcoming City Space line, but for 2020 anything should be possible. Benny's minifig pack seems to be very popular, so I hope we get something from that. -
If only it was Trans Neon Orange, I'd be tempted..

Lots of sets in recent years have had brick built articulated figures/mechs/monsters. I do personally prefer brick built, and ratcheted joints over the old Slizer ball joints. A lot of designs that were once technic only, gotten smaller, into more clip/bar and small ball joints/hinges as well. That said, a more recent System theme like Nexo Knights did have quite a lot of Technic parts integrated in it's designs.

This just makes 3-in-1 Cruising Adventures an even better boat set for a much lower price, if your not interested in Disney/Mickey. Not hating, but it's incredibly overpriced. I can understand the design, and it's nostalgia, but it's doing nothing for me personally.

LEGO CEO suggests Chinese inspired sets
TeriXeri replied to ArneNielsen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
China economy is simply way too large to ignore, combined with a population of 1.400.000.000 people. Easier to directly compete with "Clone Brands" as well when established within China itself. -
Nice thread. I do hope some smaller pirate ideas get popular enough, now that the big one hit 10000 super fast.

YER BEST CASTLE SET - ROUND 1 GROUP 6
TeriXeri replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Medieval Market Village was a perfect set size for what it gives, I do hope for a similar set sometime in the future. I don't mind that they used open backs for the buildings. Many IDEAS submissions related to Castle Village are simply too huge.- 92 replies

Not all themes do need a big story or multiple, via a TV show , books, or magazines. Ninjago, Chima, Nexo Knights clearly were good vs bad guys, while Hidden Side seems more mysterious, and not a direct faction vs faction type theme.

YER BEST CASTLE SET - ROUND 1 GROUP 6
TeriXeri replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Voted Black Falcon's. While I never owned any, I always considered 6090: Royal Knight's Castle and 10176: King's Castle as the better alternatives to King Leo's.- 92 replies

Of course products have to be seen beforehand, as with anything, private demonstrations do happen, small scale for toys/games, or large scale for vehicles/machinery etc.

Not if they sign NDA's.

Lego Ideas Support Thread - Historical/Castle
TeriXeri replied to leafan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I love it, sadly, that's the only actual Castle set over 1000 votes right now. Only 3 "medieval" sets have made it ever to 10.000 and none were Castles Mesadon Gatehouse is about to expire. Classic Castle is a newer upcoming Castle project however. I do love many of the smaller Castle projects as well, but small sets have a hard time sticking around IDEAS for long- 532 replies

I agree about more civilian sets for sure, but certainly not at the huge scale they are posted on IDEAS, but more reasonable, even if they had open back designs I wouldn't mind.

I wonder why IDEAS has such a lack of actual popular Castle sets, and currently there's only 1 active I can see over 2000 Black Falcon's Fortress (288 days) Besides that there are currently a few Medieval Blacksmith/Inn/Village/House ideas ranging from 750 to 6800 votes, but those are not castles. In the past 3 similar sets have actually made it to 10.000, again, not castles. Mesadon Gatehouse is about to expire in 14 days, and as far as I can see the only other high voted current castle type set over 500, but Classic Castle (418 days) seems to hit 500+ soon enough. (not counting japanese castles or microscale)

I think it's hard to truly judge Nexo Knights negativity. Of course on this forum, there's a huge amount of AFOLs, and the Pirate and Historic subforums are much larger then the Action ones. But even this forum had Nexo Knights listed under Action/Adventure, so there was certainly concensus that it wasn't meant as a 100% successor to 2013 or former "classic" , or in-house Fantasy castle line but more of a standalone spinoff with its own media/game/show/books. In-house Castle sets were sold nearly each year from 1978 up to 2014 (minifig packs) , even when not including action figures or licensed (LotR/Harry Potter etc.) Now I don't think it would have made sense to have a Castle or Fantasy line going on during Nexo Knight's lifespan, but something might have happened to see Nexo Knights be made in the first place. A lot of investment was certainly put in the first 2 years with nearly 100 sets, alongside the digital media, magazines and books. I think winter 2020 might have the largest chance to see either a Pirate or Castle theme pop up again, as obviously TLM2 took the big spotlight for Winter 2019, and Hidden Side for Summer 2019. And if you consider IDEAS, there's been only 3 sets that made it to 10.000 remotely related to a Castle theme and none of them were actual Castles - Medieval Market Street https://ideas.lego.com/projects/e0df59b0-f400-4e1d-8dbe-afbcc7133ce5 - Merchant's House https://ideas.lego.com/projects/8e77ca75-5189-409c-8a53-ce39200b96a7 - Medieval Watermill (deleted?) https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/44b47f39-cb42-46a8-917a-a24f235a639f

Press Release: Creator Expert 10269 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
TeriXeri replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Of course, in the case of Emerald Night, piece count won't be that drasticly different as it's still one of the more "modern" studless designs. I don't have that set either, but I agree I could imagine minor changes to account for the 62 parts. Edit : There's at least 48 1x1 cheese slopes in the original design that could be replaced by 1x2 reducing it by 24 parts and keeping the design 100% the same.- 129 replies

Press Release: Creator Expert 10269 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
TeriXeri replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Of course, increasing a piece count on a "remake" can be very likely as the current trend in LEGO sets is that there's a lot of 1x1 size parts added in the last few years for detail and technical stuff. Sets tend to not get much larger in actual size but instead get more tiny pieces. Especially if it's a remake of some older set, I can certainly imagine the addition of the many more recent 1x1 tile shapes or curves, for more of a "studless" design, if the scale remains the same. Of course it could also be a reduction of scale/parts as we've seen for the VW Beetle sets : 1626 pieces, 41 cm long 16 cm high 1167 pieces, 29 cm long 15 cm high(with cooler)- 129 replies

What are the most underrated themes?
TeriXeri replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Speaking of more recent themes, Nexo Knights. While I can fully understand it's differences directly compared to a Space or Castle theme of the past, it wasn't meant to be a Classic theme, but more of a spinoff of multiple concepts. If looked at as a standalone theme, with it's books, TV show, Magazine comics, and target age group I think it was a high quality theme, especially for it's first 2 years. It might have had a better reputation if they never had year 3, or shown us the Forest/Water monsters, and just stayed as a 2 year/4 waves theme. -
Why is the 5571 Model Team Truck so expensive?
TeriXeri replied to Robin_IV's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's a 23 year old set that was very expensive to begin with. Also not many stores that sold LEGO had those huge sets on their shelves. Brickset lists it at $140, but that's around $230 nowadays. -
For how long will the LEGO company exist?
TeriXeri replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes there were games long before the movie , I played the DOS versions of Prince of Persia 1 (1989), and 2 (1994). They were still popular years after the release during the 90s. From 2003-2010 there were more games, first one was named Sands of Time , the movie was also named Sands of Time but didn't come out until 7 years later in 2010. -
For Nexo Knights, imo the best sets were the 2 biggest Castles (Volcano Lair/Knighton Castle), around the €120-€140 price point, 1100-1400 parts and lots of minifigs each, and the side-builds weren't too big. I could see them make great normal Castles or Pirate Forts at that price point if they don't focus too much on siege vehicles or ships in the same set. I don't mind them making seperate larger Siege vehicles and Pirate ships, but I think the main structure sets should focus on the buildings.
