  1. Not exactly in this case. Even with free shipping there's still like €55 (34%) added from just VAT and Import taxes for my country, that might play a role for others as well. I don't purchase official sets from overseas either
  2. The 3-in-1 line is my favorite theme right now, especially the minifig scale sets. Some Alternate builds have been great as well. I do like the overlap of some themes like City, Hidden Side, Xtra with Creator, and Friends and some Classic/Seasonal/LEGO Store sets. We saw how the Fairground/Amusement Park theme the last couple years got many sets, including 2019, has had a pretty wide range of sets across multiple themes, I think it's a good thing to have variation on the same subject.
  3. Donut shop set looks like a good balanced set to me. Nice amount of 2 small buildings/shops , 9 minifigs, and 5 different style of vehicles.
  4. Interesting take on Space for sure, at least 2 sets seem to have moved further upon the concept of the 2017 3-in-1 Shuttle/Vehicle builds. Also gives me some 1999 Town Space vibes in some designs. (shiny gold hexagon dome is back) Now I can't say this is a must-have subtheme for me, but it's nice to fill the variation.
  5. Love the corner style building of the Cafe/Petshop , it's like a hybrid of the older sets with sidewalks, and the "modular" 3-in-1's. Feels like a mashup of those 2 sets but done well. For me this could be my fav set of 2019.
  6. That Siege the Castle set is amazing. Even while it's obviously based off a collection of older set designs revitalized and updated, it's at the right scale for me. Even the small tower on a rock is nice.
  7. Many IDEAS sets even meant for minifigs are way above a certain scale, just for the sake of detail and size. Of course a 3000 part set going to look nicer then a 1000 part set most of the time, and the larger sets do have to have better price per part. However there are cases where many parts purely going to fill up an area with terrain or something, to me that does not mean "efficient" use of budget.
  8. To me a majority of submitted IDEAS sets are just too large.
  9. Dover Castle could be cool to see at a decent scale. And as something more close to my country : Dam Square - Amsterdam.
  10. Nothing if it's like the quality of the Super Mario Bros. live action movie (1993)
  11. As for dusting, I don't like to just blow or wipe it off, as it'll just stay in the room. Instead, I bought an attachment for vaccuum cleaner with a thinner hose which has several attachments, that way you can brush off the dust, and it's removed from the room, and the brushes are soft enough to not scratch. Smallest brush is about 1 cm round, really nice to clean studded areas and builds.
  12. I am fine with the base price of CMF , it's the random chance element however that I haven't bought any. I can understand it's no different from many other "collect them all" toys/cards etc. which are around for decades. Of course there are 2nd market sellers, selling individual figs/parts/boxes and whole complete series, but then you look at even higher prices. Feeling isn't an option for everyone and buying them online, you often gotta buy multiples to offset shipping cost and then that's still random. (Shipping cost also applies to polybags as just like CMF, they aren't always sold in physical stores nearby) For me the "Fun in the xxx" are my main source of regular minifigs, and I hope it continues for many years to come, along with Xtra, I think it's one of the nicest concepts of modern day sets.
  13. Meanwhile I recently got the 40198 LEGO Ludo board game to increase my population of "generic" people, 16 minfigs, baseplate, and 4 16x16 plates, and a lot of tiles/plates/jumpers. Even while it has 2 of each figure torso/head/hair, can easily be swapped around.
  14. I do agree with the points here, I do like that they vary up the price ranges and sizes within a same City sub-theme, and it being generic enough with no real story or named characters around it. (usually for other themes, especially licensed themes, the focus on characters is bigger) However there's also the opposite case where a large bit of everyhing is put into 1 huge set in the case of Capital City (2018). Now I understand it's probably limited due to logistical reasons/shelf space/set numbers that this had to be 1 set, but from my perspective I'd prefered a split into smaller sets. Nothing wrong with the amount of variation of the 13 minifigs however. And yes, I know this is LEGO, not tied to instructions, but the original builds certainly do influence sets for me more then just considering all sets as "parts packs". This is again very opinion based, and not LEGO's mistake per se. From a kid's perspective I imagine, this set would be amazing to get. However huge sets like this also aren't sold as wide as others. There are even people who sell parts of this set seperately on ebay, however the price is high + high shipping cost. I tend to avoid ebay or buying partial sets, so maybe that's another case of "me", but shipping cost seem to have gone up massively the recent years. However my perspective tends to look forward and not back, so for me it's a case of "better luck next time", which the closest for me is Summer 2019 City/Creator.
  15. I agree ,this thread is about personal opinions and certainly 1 half year release isn't anywhere close to a trend. And I also agree about the Xtra theme, it basicly originated in the City line in 2017 : Became Xtra polybags (bikes , plants, food, traffic lights/lanterns) 853656 (currently 50% off at shop@home along with the Friends variant) , turned into Xtra playmats, with similar system of 2x2 holes in corners I know the City Summer Space theme has sets in all sorts of price ranges, especially interested to see how the €10, €20, €30 sets look in their size / parts / minifig amount.
  16. For me it's the other way around. Unless you really like the vehicles in those €30-€40 sets, I desire the starter set option more. I rather get this for €10 , even if you added €15 You still end up cheaper at €25 total. Compared to for €40. The concept of those sets is very similar. While I do like the cave and the small vehicle, the big driller is just not wanted in my case. Also + is about half price at €16 for both sets (€10+€6) Compared to for €30. . In those cases I do not see more value of money in the €30/€40 set. Unless you really like bigger vehicles. (total spending for smaller sets : €25 + €16 = €41, or €26 if you opt out of 2nd mining set) (total spending for medium sets : €40 + €30 = €70) So for the €29 you save, you can get the Jet set below. Now I must say, for 2019, one of the better valued sets is at €30 , I see this as a starter pack + €20 jet build. (Total Spending = €10 + €15 + €10 + €6 + €30 = €71) If you opted out of the 2nd Mining set you save €44, which can almost get you for €50. (Total spending €10+ €10+ €6+ €50 = €76) This is just 100% my opinion, and in my case I do not desire the big driller or net shooter truck, especially if you can get the police armored truck or jet instead.
  17. I actually liked the builds in the few starter packs I have from recent times (Arctic, Mining, Mountain Police, Jungle), they all include 3-4 figs each, and some terrain, and either a boat/quad/dumper/snowmobile, so the amount of building is still there, just smaller and more spread out. But I can understand for some people they have 0 interest in a rock or tree build, but starter sets also gave kids some cheap play value like 2 cop vs 2 criminal in some cases. Again not saying that the 2019 €10 sets are bad, they just went a different direction and I accept that. Those 2 sets are great variations on the "fun in the xxxx" concept. However, even if that sounds strange, I'd still like LEGO to make an official retail version of such set. On the other hand, I can understand the possible "competition" with CMF series. 45022-1: Community minifigure set - 2017 : 22 minifigs. 45023-1: Fantasy minifigure set - 2017 21 minfigs. What's most interesting to me is that the Fantasy one goes really wide on the represented themes. Right now I am just waiting for Summer 2019 (City/Creator) sets .
  18. I do think it had an impact, especially this year, the disapearance of €10 3-4 minifig+accesoires+build/vehicle starter packs from City was a big change imo. Those were maybe too good of a value, however via TLM2, Benny's Space Squad did functionally act as a starter pack, with 4 figs + builds. 2018 Mining and Arctic starter packs were fantastic value, 4 figures with good small builds. 2019 has 4 good vehicle sets with just 1 minifig. But I hope it won't be the end of City starter packs. I was kinda surprised to not see a Fire theme starter set, smallest set instead is a 4+. (not counting the polybags) , or a Sky Police starter set. I suppose we'll see soon with the Space theme if the smallest €10 set has more then 1 minifig. It's probably just me that really focuses on the Start Sets, because I only just recently started collecting City and I don't go back buying off-shelves sets. So far the "fun in the park/beach/outdoor" sets have been a great source of regular people, so I wouldn't mind something like that for a mix of city jobs as well.
  19. This, Galaxy Squad was in 2013. 2014 had Benny related TLM1 sets, and now 2018 we have Benny again for TLM2. SW: Rogue One came in 2016.
  20. As for experimenting beyond the current line of sets, the last City magazine was themed around soccer (and a lawnmower, included as a miniset), but as I learned from the Nexo Knight magazine, that means nothing. I don't expect a soccer theme in LEGO, maybe in 2020 when the Euro championships go like Europe wide (12 cities in 12 countries), as a 20th year after the original Soccer sets, but that's a far stretch.
  21. Creator never had to branch off very differently as there's been themes ongoing in the past, it's just now that we're truly without any Castle or Pirate themes at all that the question of Creator being a home for such themes could be possible imo. Either Castle and Pirates pretty much have been ongoing nonstop until now. 2014 had no new sets but 2013 castle probably was still on shelves, 2015 had pirates, 2016-1H2018 had nexo knights. That's why I think 2020 seems the most likely time to bring at least something back. In-house space certainly had a longer break then that, outside the movies, nothing new since 2013 , not counting TLM2 , dimensions or promotional classic space microscale builds (micro scale cruiser, or one in the bigger-building-thinking theme)
  22. Pirate ? multiple times , even while subtle: 2017 Island Adventures had a treasure map, bottle, and brick built parrot and a small palm tree island. 2018 Tree House Adventures had a skull cave alternate build, pirate swords/hat/treasure, and of course Rollercoaster with a modern take on old pirate structure, and pirate minifig/parrot/palm trees. Of course it's not a pirates replacement but it was something. Castle, not so much, just a shield in a 2018 LEGO store, which isn't officially listed as Creator, but uses the 3-in-1 modular style, (nexo knights was still running in 2018 however, unlike pirates) 2018 Bigger Building Thinking line had multiple pirate and castle accesoires, and a few castle/undersea ruins/pirateship builds, that theme was like a spinoff of Classic with more older theme hints being a 60 year anniversary after all. As for Classic Space, if there's one theme Benny's influence could be continued it'd certainly be cool to see 3-in-1 Classic spaceships. TLM2 kinda took this year's place for multiple spaceships, benny's pack and lesser pirate influences via metalbeard sets, in the past Ninjago had sky pirates as well.
  23. Perfect suitable size to be an actual set or addition to one, and the stacked chests with studs is a great compact idea. I'm personally don't mind open backed buildings. And I think the 8x16 scale LEGO has been using in some themes is a good size to go by.
  24. Great set idea, not overly huge, and the Farm theme goes well with City and Creator anyday.
  25. Winter 2019 3-in-1 had 0 buildings. I am looking out for the Townhouse set, it's like 900 parts, €80, and the Carousel is like 500 parts €50. Maybe 500-900 parts isn't md-range within Creator 3 in 1 , but if you add Creator Expert , they certainly are. Now City still has a minifig pack and Donut shop opening as well to compliment that. Dual Rotor helicopter seems to be the "large vehicle" category, following up the Turbo Track Racer from 2 years ago.
