I find the Color scheme of the Nexo Knights 1st year lava monsters was pretty well done from a Castle point of view, Dark Grey, Black, Red, Dark Brown go well together. Jestro's Volcano Lair is still one of my favorite sets, the balance of colors and parts used is very nice.

I agree with the difference between the official wording of minifig/minidoll and character (unikitty), they even put "1 LEGO Character" on the The LEGO Movie 2 CMF bags, 1 is Unikitty. While on previous ones the text has been "1 LEGO Minifgure" . However it's getting harder to stay true to the term Minifgure with so much variation nowadays, from many head molds, leg lengths (short/medium/normal), to multiple "robe/skirt" bricks, to Ghost legs and Rogul legs, to 4 armed figures seen in Ninjago etc. And then there is the appearance of not-so minfig characters that can still hold items in their hands, and some can move their legs/head as well, like Scurriers, Squirebots, Bricksters, Battle-Droids, Skeletons, Martians (Life on Mars 2001). Then there's some more distant categories like mostly single-parts (Globlins), larger figures with articulation (Burnzie/Sparkks), Brickbuild without articulation (cloud Monstrox, or movie maker queen whatevra), or Holograms (Merlok/Monstrox). And then Animals have many different variants as well going from 1 to multiple pieces, to creator brick build.

Nice, I like this scale too, not overly huge (unlike some sets on IDEAS). A very classic style.

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
They did add an extra windscreen in the Cruising Adventures set to make the helicopter possible, so there are exceptions. Not that the helicopter is like super good, but still fairly unique to see a Huey style build in what was originally a Yacht. There are sets where all 3 builds are too similar or 1 build is super dumbed down to 1/3 of the original size, but there are exceptions like Sunshine Surfer Van that show a smaller set can still prove the 3-in-1 concept well. Rebrickable also shows nice things , even outside of the 3-in-1 theme, that sometimes completely surprises me, even on the smaller/medium sets it amazes me what people come up with. Often better then LEGO's own "3rd" builds.- 55 replies

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I gotta say that the alternate builds on the larger sets are a lot better most of the time. Especially ones that completely change their style. Favorite examples being : Vacation Getaways : Mobile RV + Boattrailer / Jeep + House / Motorboat Cruising Adventures : Motoryacht + Jetski / Helicopter+Tower / Beachhouse + Sailboat Some sets simply don't make me care for their alternate builds however, like the 2018 Mobile Stunt Show, certainly played a role in skipping that set. I am looking forward to see good pictures of the 2019 Pet Shop/Townhouse set. At least the "Tram+Street" and "Bank" might be okay. (I have no problem with the 16x8 sized open backed 3-in-1 modular system) I know LEGO Movie 1 sets had alternate builds and seeing that return in LEGO movie 2 was pretty cool, reason I got Emmet's house set was it felt very close to a Creator set in style/concept.- 55 replies

The only time I got LEGO blind bags was 10 of both seasons 5x Nexo Knight shield tiles, for like big discount less then half retail price, so that's 100 shield tiles. Now I never got all the different ones, but it was still much cheaper compared to CMF series, and Nexo Knights was a theme that got me back into LEGO after 15 years. If only there were any shops nearby actually selling it...
-
CMF might be great when money does the talking (reselling/rarity), but the random bag element still irks me as a home-collector for personal use. But then again, I guess that's always been the point of "collectible" series. Foil trading cards/soccer/football/baseball cards act similar, Except cards cannot be felt like bricks, so people who are able to feel are at an advantage over areas with little of them sold in stores.

Now I also do have 3 of nearly identical Emmet and Rex, at least the Rex from the Dream House is distinct and very unique, and with the helmet on could be any sci-fi or racer. Also have cases of duplicate Nexo Knights from the same year, despite all being different sets, but that's just me going all in the theme. However I must say, that at least Nexo Knights had Ultimate or Battlesuit variants as seperate sets if only targeting those, but the regular knights were very spread out and unevenly spread across sets. Hidden Side does that again with the 3 characters/dog across the sets, slight variants but basicly the same 2-3 everywhere, it's a shame because the other people/monster versions in those sets are very well done and varied. Minecraft did this in the Extreme, not that I have any sets but I did watch reviews regularly. I also must say that there's also been the case of LEGO putting basicly the full team of Ninjas+Wu in 1 big set this year with the Monastery, great for a standalone set. I know I can always swap parts around, however I do agree on the themes with named characters some either repeat too often, or sometimes unique versions are placed strategicly in only the biggest sets.

Collectible Historic/Fantasy Minifigure Series
TeriXeri replied to ElectroDiva's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I rather see a "fun in the xxx" style set or converted/updated Education people set compared to the random CMF, but that's just me. It's the system of CMF that irks me, not the content. In the end it's all about feeling or reselling extras, or buying overpriced via some 3rd party seller. -
I don't collect CMF, not because they are bad or overrated , but because of the silly "random" bag aspect of it. However I do LOVE the minifigure focused sets but also for their parts. City - Fun in the xxxx Starter style sets (includes Benny's space squad) - 3-4 figures Impulse small boxed sets (1-2 minifig) Magazines (mostly 1 minifig/accesoires, sometimes a vehicle build) Then there's other sets that have figures in them that play a factor for me LEGO LUDO game (2018) 16 minifigs 2018 Bigger Building Thinking sets - Generic smiley face minifigs and many accesoires/hairpieces. LEGO sets that fall outside City or Creator themes, like Wedding/Birthday/Seasonal/Pencil Pot. Figures DID also play a big factor in collecting the Nexo Knight magazines/books beside the actual sets for me however, as I went all-in on that theme after a 15 year dark age. I do think themes having a background media/story increases the market/desire for specific figures, I wanted all the characters from Nexo Knights myself, and most of the main figures from TLM2. While I can see other people desire Star Wars, Superhero or Friends/Elves characters more. CMF being random/rare has another play in the market.

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I do have all those dogs in the forementioned sets and I think they are still funny builds appropriate to the theme, just as the birds and seagulls and parrots of recent year's 3-in-1. For the 3-in-1 theme, nothing wrong with brick built animals if they contribute to the alternate builds well.- 55 replies

Would be interesting to see the printed nexo knight shield concept return, with printed tiles or dishes. Maybe no scannable codes or bright transparent colors this time around. Nexo Knights had heralds on printed 1x1 tiles for the squirebots already, so I don't see it weird to see them on opaque 2x2 round/square or 2x3 Pentagonal tiles. Of course they actually used stickers for most of the opaque 2x3 pentagon tile decorations on sets, however with proper color or tile background selection I can see it work out still. Also don't forget ( Minifigure, Shield Round with Stud and Ring Around Edge) was still produced as recent as 2018 , just never used in the actual Castle theme, but 3 times in historic CMF and some other themes as shields (Chima, Superheroes, Incredibles) A very versatile piece with a handle on the backside that can fit 1x1 stud/plate/pyramid/horn/spike etc, 2x2 round plate/tiles/jumper/dish right in the center. 3x3 and 4x4 dish pieces fit right on top without needing extra parts even while dishes might not be really suited for a herald (stud in center), still make good generic curved shields. And then there's still (Plate, Round 1 x 1 with Handle) produced since 2016-2019. now this has the possiblity of attaching to a lot more, at a tiny size.

SpaceX doesn't interest me yet until they start manned missions beyond the ISS soon to be used Dragon 2. I know this Re-useable Starship is exactly that purpose, for manned flight beyond Earth, but let's see it used first :D

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Of course that moulded dragon looks a lot cleaner and nicer, but I don't really expect highly specialized animals in 3-in-1 sets, where alternate builds are key, (they even have a 4-in-1 for the 2019 sea creatures, sperm whale bonus build) I do think some of those arch-brick dogs are pretty bad, maybe it was just added as something leftover to match a certain piece/weight criteria. The 2018 dog outback set at least had 4 moveable legs , but other then that the City dogs/cats could be nice to see in a 3-in-1 Creator set. We had some non-existent animals in brick form as well, like a Moose, or Pelican in minifig-scale sets. I would love to see more seagulls in Xtra or smaller City sets. But at least the blue/yellow parrots are more easily available now outside of Modulars. The 2019 crocodile build is just a bit large compared to the City Jungle crocs that already exist but the parts are used in the alternate builds.- 55 replies

The disappearance of the mid-range sets
TeriXeri replied to astral brick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It doesn't bother me from the ethnic perspective, but more of my cohesiveness of my collection. And I am okay with in-house themes having like robots, monsters or aliens being different colors or even transparent. LEGO first introduced a robot minfig head with the 1994 Spyrius theme, later followed by 1995 Skeleton heads and other colors in later Space themes or Adventurer Mummy. I suppose the first non-yellow "licensed" characters were 1999 Darth Vader and Darth Maul heads. Followed by the Harry Potter line in 2001. Still it wasn't until 2003 for darker human skin tones (Cloud City Lando, and NBA Basketball) , and 2004 introduced Flesh tone via Spider Man/Harry Potter. I didn't collect LEGO during 2001-2015. -

TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Harry Potter, TLM2, 2019 summer City No, but really, I do hope some actual Space/Castle/Pirate line of sets. While Pirate elements have been present in some 3-in-1 in 2018 they weren't full pirate sets, even tho the style of the buildings on the Pirate Rollercaster and Treehouse (skull alternate build), clearly were inspired by the past. Of course putting elements in via the 3-in-1 line is throwing us a cookie, but no full replacement, but they also put some pirate/castle/space elements in the 60th anniversary set, LEGO knows there's a demand, I just think 2019 wasn't the right time yet for a full new in-house theme. Xtra sea accesoires being partly Pirate-y also might be a hint toward possibly a Space or Castle accesoires, no idea. I think TLM2 benny squad was a very nice gesture already on the Space theme at least. Hidden Side likely was in the pipeline already before or right after Nexo Knight's "early" ending. Also not to forget Ninjago has covered the Dragon side of things regularly even recently, and I don't expect much less Star Wars at least until after Ep.9 I would love to see a in-house theme as much as others, especially on the Castle side of things.- 55 replies

I do have this set via a promotion I won earlier this year, and while I wouldn't buy this for full €95 local retail price, I do think the set is still very unique to what it is : A disco, a bus and a spaceship with unique parts and rare colors. The new coral color is really amazing in real life, can't really compare it on a digital screen. I wonder what people can come up with for alternate builds with those canopy's (outside of Slave I)

The storyline (for the tech-infection 2018 sets) continued via the Magazine (in Europe), but even so it was very forced into 1 direction.

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It's my favorite current running theme. Especially the minifig scale sets. The only thing I don't like are some microscale sets for their builds however they still can contain good parts. 3-in-1 style of sets/figures combine well with the "fun in the xxx" figures, and shop@home sets like pencil pots/picture frame/lego store etc, Xtra also adds to the theme well. Of course the Expert line will look better, but also is at a much higher price class (even while it's at a lower price per part), however I hardly see the 40%+ discounts on those sets compared to 3-in-1.- 55 replies

Lego's false advertising with Minifigure prints

Yeah I added that to the post, it's also a bit of orange/white on my set, maybe not as much as the video but still there. -
Lego's false advertising with Minifigure prints
TeriXeri replied to Takanuinuva's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I noticed the same thing on the yellow printing on a dark blue torso on one of the figures in the Arctic Starter Set. (2018) It's much less yellow colored then the actual yellowish-orange it's supposed to be (1 of his arms). Maybe not as bad as Mercy or Captain America of 2019 but still a similar case. Meanwhile my Rex figure torso/helmet print from the Dream House set (Lime Green on Dark Blue) is much closer to the actual Lime color. Some of my Nexo Knight prints are also really bright and well done as well (black scurrier/moltor), and that's using yellow+orange prints on black. Overall I can understand variation in opacity, line thickness, alignment and sharpness and have seen some. See Jangbricks review to see the same color difference and he even mentions it around 4:15. (Can even just see it in the thumbnail without pressing play, it's the figure on the left) You can also see the white print on the arctic logo has a bit of an orange see-through as well. -
Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
I remember turning my aquashark submarine (the neon orange cockpit+black seating area was the perfect shape) into aircraft at the time using the Galaxy Explorer wing plates. Also used the raised baseplate from the Islanders big set to built structures on and make bridge traps with a croc or shark beneath. Mixing themes was and remains great part of LEGO. I saw some old LEGO space commercial video today and even there they had some custom alternate builds shown, and remember alternate builds used to be on the back of boxes. Now I currently have to admit all my sets since 2015 (Nexo Knights/City/Creator) are still in their original form, but once I get organized I plan to MOC/Rebuilt some. (I keep my old pre-2000s LEGO at a seperate location) -
