    BoBS CMF - Series 7

Hello guys ! After having seen those previous brilliant BoBSCMF Series, I thought it would be fun to build one myself. So here is my humble attempt to follow the BoBS CMF train. The BoBS CMF Serie 7 : Let me introduce the characters : The Juniper war veteran : "Show them no fear... Show them no pain..." One of the pride of Oleon is to parade with many flags, fanals, and "cotes d'armes" like they say in their language. This old veteran warrior have seen many of his comrades fall during the Juniper War and now is honouring them every year on the day of the "Mémoire" by hoisting his batallion flag. The Oleon Ship boy : "Seventh son of a seventh son" A poor child from a numerous family. He had no choice but entering at the service of a ship captain to earn his food. It was this life of servitude or a life of danger as a pirate. The Colonist : "A Brave new world... In a brave new world..." Oleon is not only a Navy power, but is also claiming land in the new world. It is by sending many groups of such colonists the Blue Realm is hoping to conquer land. The Corrington trader : "No more lies..." It is something to encounter an Eslandola merchant but a Corrington Trader can be more efficient and could earn good benefits from nearly anything thanks to their new techniques in economic science. The naturalist : "Caught on spiders web..." She is from a good family and tryed to go for adventure. But Adventure comes with little beasts and annoyances on the same way she wasn't expecting. The Royal guard : "We're blood brothers..." One of the most selected guards in all Corrington, this guy is the Elite of the Elite. The Eslandolan navigator : "I've seen the Ghosts of navigators..." This Navigator from the MAESTRO fleet is one of the finest you can encounter. His skills allowed his ship to sail safely and quickly between many dangerous waters. The Scholar : "Age of innocence" This young scholar is freshly entering in the ETWC to study the magic of Nature. He is secretly wishing to encounter hihs idol, George da Pontelli, the intelligent monkey ! The Mercenary : "Pay to kill, die to loose..." This skilled soldier is hired by the MCTC to protect their cargoes well packed in their warehouses. But, is this necessary ? Just to protect some cotton balls ? The Lady pirate : "Just another way the wild wind blows" She has sailed to many lands ands cut many throats. You should avoid her ! The Pirate Captain : "The wicker man" Despite his classical aspect with even a parrot, this skilled captain is able to empty your pockets in no time... The pirate cook : "Die with your boots on" What would be life on board without a cook ! Well, with this one, you should be warned that eating his meal could lead you to your instant death... The Shipmaker : "We are pleased to be yelled..." A wood plank and a hammer and this artisan can make all your repairs ! And for a good price ! The banana farmer : "Hey la banana... hey la banana..." The Ténotclaxcans are well known for their excellent bananas ! This made their pride, and even in the court of Corrington, their fruits are praised. The Alexport negociant : "The man who would be king" In Isla de Romantica, there are trading companies in development which are ready to sell and buy many products. This spirits negociant is one of the bests, and it is rumoured he could be richer than the Archduke of Alexport ! The Mardieran soldier : "Pashendale" This soldier miraculously escaped from Isla de Medio alive ! During the last battles he saw his company decimed and had to run through a ship from Nova Malto. Now he is safe and is waiting for his revenge... Here it is ! Hope you'll like it ! C&Cs are welcome !
  2. Just a small build to get extra ship limits. Paperwork by Capt. Genaro, on Flickr In order to modernize Oleon's shipping records, the Royal Office of the Navy developed brand new systems, requiring brand new paperwork. That's why, mere hours before the fleet is preparing to sail, some poor lieutenant is stuck in his room trying desperately to finish a pile of paperwork with instrucitions that even a lawyer would struggle with. "If the vessel is, for purposes of Section 243 D(2), a qualified non-coastal trader, then a qualifying dependent under Section 152 (A)1 shall not be limited by the aforementioned... quid pro quo, blah, blah, blah," the young officer muttered. Oh, if only he had listened to his father and become a lawyer. Then he wouldn't have these problems. Paperwork by Capt. Genaro, on Flickr At least it was still easier than figuring our Oleon's archaic tax code.
  3. Gentlefolks of the Brick Seas, here's another build - or actually two - ship-levels don't upgrade themselves, after all! Deadlines!!! No.1 - Next! Just a typical scene these days at the Department of Sailing Vehicles. People are paying literally any price to receive a shipping license - much to the liking of some rather greedy officials. No.2 - Ingredients Hull, Cargo, Guns, Crew... plus an able captain... I think I got my money's worth of ship ingredients - now back to the shipyards!! Does he realize those are actually field guns? I didn't realize we could talk! Oh, we can't. This is just a one-time thing for comic relief and story effect. This whole scene would be less funny if we didn't hint at at least one ridiculous flaw the Maker deliberately put into the setup of this MOC. ... This had to be done More ship-levels! Thanks for watching, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  4. Hi mateys, just a small build to increase Oleon's ship-level limit. The Duke's Delightful Dream It's not clear if it was the huge impression the Royal Philip had made on him, or whether it was due to the gently rocking waves of the Merlonic Sea, but on his journey to Londa the Duc de Corban was sound asleep in his bunk. And he had the best dream in a long while - more ships for La Royale! More ships of all sizes and colors!! Just... more... ships!!! He was in heaven. Not much to say about it... the idea came to me, and just had to be translated into a MOC The hammock was the most annoying thing to build, the shopping cart was the most fun. Thanks for watching, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  5. Adventure time, y'all! Not yet really sure how exactly to do this, but let's give the A-MCRA a try! Mission to Mardier Following his appointment as the Oleander ambassador to Mardier, Guiscard Emery de Beauregard - Duc de Corban, Secrétaire d’État de la Marine, Commandeur de l’Ordre Royal et Militaire de l’Étoile d’Ardros, Commandeur de l’Ordre Royal de Saint-Arltrees, Grand-Amiral d’Oleon - had no choice but to accept His Majesty's command to conduct a diplomatic mission to the High Court in Londa, Mardier. A new monarch on the throne - the ongoing civil war - the rather surprising defeat against the alliance of Eslandola and Garvey - there surely was enough to talk about. Welcome aboard the Royal Philip, Your Grace - or should I rather say Your Excellency - it's an honor to finally be given the opportunity of meeting you. I assume you've already had the chance to see Capitaine Brighi? Yes, Amiral d'Ancios, the captain was so kind to receive me and have me shown to your quarters. And thank you, it's an honor meeting you, too, monsieur. But referring to my appointment as ambassador will hardly be necessary. This hopefully is a one-time mission, I have better things to do with my time than waste it on banquets and negotiations. Apologies, monsieur. I understand. Also, I would have received you myself, but as this mission was scheduled on such short notice, we haven't had the chance to go through all the necessary preparation procedures quite yet. Especially with such a prominent member of His Majesty's cabinet aboard, matters of security demand more attention. I understand, monsieur l'amiral, I was told that's why the King's Guards are on board... But... what's the Red Cloak doing here? Personal request by His Most Eminence Highness, Chancelier Calida himself. He wouldn't let you leave Granoleon without a formation of his own Guards. For... if things went south, he expressed himself. Hmm... now isn't that too kind of His Highness. And my guess is the chancellor insisted, didn't he?! Yes, monsieur - he did. Hmm... you have any idea how many Red Cloaks there are on board this ship? I'm afraid not, monsieur, I... lost count - they all seem to look alike. Never mind, don't bother yourself, admiral, finish your preparations! Meanwhile I'll have someone show me to my quarters. As soon as you can, have the men set sail, I want to get this mission over with as quickly as possible. Let's go to Londa! My only concern is... the chancellor is rarely wrong. Btw, this scene actually shows parts of the Royal Philip's interior - just had to delete the grand cabin's roof and the starboard side for better lighting.
  6. Ahoy, ahoy, ahoy, finally and proudly presenting the first first-rate ship-of-the-line about to roam the Brick Seas: The 'Royal Philip' As one of the heaviest and most formidable ships-of-the-line in His Majesty's Royal Navy, the Royal Philip is naturally suited to fill out the role of an admiral's flagship. And flagship she is! At the moment, she serves under admiral d'Ancios as lead-ship of the Perennes Squadron, the one unit of La Royale stationed closest to Oleon's border with Corrington. During her active service of now almost four years, in countless maneuvers and fleet exercises, the Royal Philip has proven herself a powerful and – even more importantly – very reliable warship, with excellent sailing capabilities. A true asset. Rumors circulating in the Royal Court have it that soon she might be transferred to the colonies in an effort to strengthen Oleon's influence in the waters of New Terra. Such a step, however, would have to be very carefully pondered, as it would mean to noticeably weaken the nation's defenses against her northern neighbor. But regardless of where she will see service in the future, with her dedicated, veteran crew and her seasoned captain, the Royal Philip will surely fulfill the role entrusted to her – to guard the realm, protect the nations interests, and to proudly fly Oleon's colors on the waves! And some 10210-shaming: About: First of all, some numbers: 14200 parts length at waterline is 120 studs, LOA 171 studs, beam 29 each broadside fires 57 guns. Now, more importantly, no worries, y'all! Launching yet another ship-of-the-line is no act of aggression towards any of you. It's rather the result of some major confusion from my side. The upcoming Adventure-MCRA gave me the idea to send the Secretary of the Navy as ambassador to Mardier. But I got this idea only after le Monarque was posted and planned in for convoy duty, so I was in desperate need of an additional ship, and no lesser would be suited for such a mission. The Royal Philip is an enhanced version of a ship I posted several years ago, and her base is still older than that of Monarque, which is why Monarque's hull is smoother. Still it's here that I first made the switch to using hinge bricks instead of curved slopes for the part of the hull between waterline and lower gun-deck. Didn't go all the way, though, back in the day. But then, the better ship is always the next one. I hope you enjoyed watching, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  7. Hi there, fellow BoBS'ers, something a bit larger today that took its sweet time - well, it actually took mine - to finish. But anyway, here goes, presenting the first capital facility of the Arsenal Royal de la Marine in Breshaun: Slipway No. 3 Mes Dieux - this is one impressive ship model, Seigneur Roseabeau! Erhm... thank you, Commodore d'Alban... but... you... did notice we are actually working on a real ship... right in front of your eyes... in that huge structure right in front of you... there... if you'd just raise your eyes a little bit. Yes, yes, I know, I know. I'm not blind, I'm not blind! He is just a 'little' hung over from the visit to the what-was-it-called, 'The Spin of Fate'. My Gods, do they have a proper port wine there! Don't you mention this, or I arrgh... have you demoted instantly, Lieutenant Berneus! Did I mention that this happens in literally every port we... Lieutenant! Aaargh... never mind, let's just get this over with... Well, as you please. She will be the largest ship ever constructed here in the colonies, in fact, the first three-decker ever to be launched in an Oleander shipyard that isn't on the mainland... Yes, yes, that's quite impressive, Seigneur Roseabeau, and I will report your most excellent progress to the Duc de Corban himself. But for now, let's just call it a day, and let me get back to my quarters - I... have work to do. Lieutenant, you remain on site and have Seigneur Roseabeau show you more of this most excellent progress here. I expect your report... tomorrow. If you will excuse me now, Vive le Roi, etc.! Wow, now I found that impressive! Haha, you have seen nothing, Seigneur Roseabeau. But let's get back to what we are actually here for. As I can see it here... she won't have a forecastle, is that correct? I assume that would be to improve her rolling resistance by lowering the balancing point. Formidable, you are quite the expert, Lieutenant! Yes, you are correct. The waves out here and further East tend to be causing a lot of stability issues with most ships built for more domestic waters. It is this experience we are trying to incorporate in the ships we build here. If you don't mind, I'd like to show you around a bit more... Mais, avec plaisir! I must say, I find this project here is quite... how does one say... ambitieux. About: Where to start...I got inspiration for this build by a scale model of the Royal Naval Arsenal in Rochefort, France, when I visited l'Hermione a few years ago. The whole thing here is 100x200 studs, all buildable (except the flags), and contains more than 31000 parts - mostly small ones, but still enough polygons for LDD to repetitively crash without saving But eventually I got it done, and I'm really happy with the way it turned out. The large wooden structure wasn't so hard to build - but the detailing really gets you... placing those minifigs is a ton of work, not to mention placing all the small round plates and tiles... my favorite thing are the two large cranes, though, which should really work if built. But then, I'll never know Oh, and this will be a royal artisan property. Thanks for watching, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  8. Part 3 and final part of my entry, hope it's not too late. The day when sergent Eric and his men were arrived at Mesabi's Landing, they were invited to dinner by the Count Mesabi. At the table, Eric was petrified to find the saboteur! - "How...how can it be...why he's here?" Asked sergent Eric. - "Relax, sergent, let me introduce you the King Carrot Karuta, his men have found in jungle this fellow, who was hidden under some leaves, they thought he was one of my marines, lost in the jungle, since I and Karuta are good friends, he made his men to bring this energumen to me." Said Count Mesabi. - And he said he is the saboteur? - Of course not, but I know the saboteur was hidding in the jungle, when Karuta and his men brought him to me, I immediately realized that he is the one we are looking for, and your reaction confirmed my suspicion. - Very well, looks you were luckier than us, thumbs up. - Now, mr.Saboteur, I'm offering you two choices, one, we continue to act like civilised men and you tell me who is behind the explosion, or the second choice, I'll let our sergent here to "interrogate" you, again.
  9. Hi mateys, last day to put the ship back into SHIPtember, so here goes: The 74-gun Ship-of-the-Line le Monarque Remind me again, Lieutenant Colonel, why did we have to sail to Eltina first? The timber convoy, Commodore, personal request by Seigneur Roseabeau. You know what they say about Eltinians... Yes, Eltinians... At least they did pick up the pace when we fired our chasers. Good times... Still, who does this Seigneur think he is. He's a royal Knight of the Realm after all, Sir. Isn't everyone these days?! Well, never mind. He better has some major progress to report tomorrow! Lieutenant Berneus, how far out from Breshaun? We'll make port within the hour, Sir. Excellent. Just in time to experience the city's famed nightlife... And one for size comparison: About: Well, this ship is loooong overdue for presentation, as it's been sitting on my digital shelf for quite a while now – some of you might even remember the origins. What's to say about le Monarque... maybe some numbers first: hull length is 111 studs, width 30 studs, number of bricks 9200+... and it should all be buildable. If I remember correctly, I started building this ship with some pictures of a French téméraire class ship-of-the-line for inspiration, but le Monarque is certainly not a historically accurate model. Still, could be worse Thanks for watching, C&C as always welcome! Vive le Roi!
  10. "As you guessed, Tristan, I'm in serious troubles" replied the Varcoastan consul. "I'll go straight to the point: somebody is organizing a conspiracy to seize power in Varcoast, murder our king and the ones loyal to him (among which me), strenghten his position with a great victory aganist Oleon and create his own empire, whatever the consequences for my country and for the peace in the New World." "Uhm, this could indeed be a problem! First of all, are you absolutely sure about that?" "Unfortunately, I am. What we know cost the life of the man we could infiltrate and of two of my best agents, found with their throat cut..." "...As you know, King Friedrich of Varcoast is becoming old and, since he doesn't have a direct heir, the crown will be inherited by his cousin Wilhelm. Nothing of too unusual, but several men of the Court don't approve his foreign policy ideas." Continued Alexander. "His wife is an Oleander noblewoman, and he is a personal friend of King Philip, isn't he?" "Exactly. Moreover, our current Prime Minister, head of the anti-Oleander fringe, and Wilhelm despise each other and, as soon as the latter will become king, the former woud be immediately fired." "Since the Prime Minister, Ludwig von Altenburg, is King's Friedrich most trusted man, and has always been completely loyal to the Crown, he is considered above any suspicion; his power and his ambition, however, have enormously grown, and he will never accept to lose his position." "Even if it entails a coup d'ètat?" "There's no doubt about that. We discovered that he has become the leader of a group of officers, noblemen and rich merchants, who will probably receive money and estates, but only crumbles of real power, assuming that rattlesnake will not execute them for treason after he takes the power. According to our infiltrate, their plan is to assassinate king Friedrich and accuse Wilhelm and the Oleander government of the murder." "Clever move, since we would obiouvsly intervene. Anyway, this would be a complete suicide: Varcoastan army is at most a third of Oleander one, not to mention better weapons, artillery and training: even if the Prime Minister had all the soldiers and officers on his side, and I doubt about that, in a couple of months we woud break your army and enter your capital city... sorry for my frankness!" "No problem. They would have a chance only dividing your army, with groups of Marderians deserters or something like that, absolutely not mercenaries paid by Varcoast attacking your colonies, and only later deploying Varcoastan regular troops, reinforced by volunteers, where and when they could win." "But even so they could at most win the first battle! And knowing their plans we could ignore their diversion, temporarily lose an island or two and directly invade Varcoast... sorry again for my frankness, but your army would be annihilated!" Father Costantinus, silent until that moment, replied: "Your analysis is correct, monsieur Rimbaud, but what would happen if Corrington supported our enemies? We could only defend ourselves, but surely not attack at ease." "Of course this would turn the table! But what would justify that course of action of the Corries? Our relations are normalising, and we would intervene to defend ourselves and to restore the legitimate government, surely not to conquer Varcoast! What would lead them to an act of aggression?" "For example, the explosion of a Corlander ship with most of its crew..." N.B. Before part 2 is published: no Corlander will be involved in treasons, plots or other unpleasant things; no Corlander will be hurt, except the ones disintegrated with the Wolf's Blood
  11. A fast and maneuvrable cutter, initially built to transport and extract agents from hostile or occupied territories. She's been transferred recently to the colonial squad based to Eltina and rebaptised Jacinthe. She has a large gun (18pounder or 24 pounder) on the bow and two smaller guns amidship. Very well armed for a boat of her tonnage, this disposition means her crew should stick to the tactic of hit and run, to maximize her advantage and try to avoid to board ennemy ships. Here are the stats: Class 2 Cost 120 Range 3 Maneuver 4 Firepower 2 Crew 1 Cargo 0 Hull 2 C&C are welcome. Vive le Roi!
  12. The colonial squadron of la Royale is ready to welcome a new member, a smaller one this time, designed for reconnaissance and escort missions. Here she is, the class 6 Licorne (unicorn),flying proudly the ensign of Oleander navy: Class Cost Stats Points Range Maneuver Firepower Crew Cargo Hull Sum 6 560 24 5 4 6 4 0 5 24 The above is the proposed stats repartition, with emphasis put on range and maneuvrability, as we can expect from a frigate. The origin of this ship is unclear, the official story says she is a renovated warship, without further details, but some say there was a secret meeting and there's even an amateur artist who has drawn a sketch of a ship who ressembles vaguely to our Licorne. The photos are a bit dark, hope you can see the small guns from the hole. All the parts above the gun deck have been redone. Figurehead, the brown thingy is supposed to represent an unicorn. Thanks for viewing. C&C are welcome. Vive le Roi!
  13. As we've seen above, a month ago, the Oleander garrison in Eltina has sent a squad of their soldiers to deliver the imposteur, also the main and the sole suspect of the WTC explosion, to Count Mesabi now residing at Mesabi Landing (is he still there?). Unfortunately, they were landed at wrong place and should traverse the jungle, although the vegetation was dense and the path was muddy, they were expected to reach their destination in a 1 or 2 days, but we haven't heard of them since then. Now the squad finally arrived at WTC's gates and we are able to learn what happened to them and their convict. During the night, the Oleander soldiers decided to feast their landing and were generously served with wine, everyone was drunk, the saboter took the occasion to flee. Here's our saboteur, seems he managed to build a tent to hide and an apple-tree to sustain his survival.
  14. The travel from Astrapi to Eltina was quite smooth, but strong headwinds delayed the arrival of a couple of days. Tristan Rimbaud was late, and knew that soon someone would have jokingly reproached his poor punctuality, unless the situation was even worse than expected... he drove away the thought: Eltina was a quite large city, but Alexander was an high-ranking Varcoastan officer, and anything too serious would have been noticed. Anyway, seeing his friend at the end of the driveaway of the luxurious house, Tristan breathed a sigh of relief. At least, he was still alive and out of jail. "You are late, my friend!" said Alexander Braun with a slight Varcoastan accent. "And you are a damned thankless Varcoastan... and by the way, nice house! You made a fast career in the King's guards... did you corrupt someone?" Replied Tristan relieved: there was surely a serious problem, but his friend was in good humour...at least the Great Raider wasn't going to retaliate aganist them. The friends exchanged a few words: Alexander was recently named Varcoastan Consul in Eltina and so, as he told with some measure of pride, the Government provided him a house "appropriate to his rank". The august Varcoastan consul (Tristan would have made fun of him for a long while) became serious again: "Thank you for coming without asking anything more: as you probably imagine I have a very thorny problem, and the last thing I wanted was a leak. Moreover since yesterday I had to accomodate one of your stake-organizing compatriots... somehow he discovered about our meeting" Tristan was a little shocked: "Wait, wait... the Order? I wish you don't have troubes with them!" "No, as you see I'm still alive! And I think that the help of Father Costantinus will be useful, since he is here as Oleander intelligence agent rather than as inquisitor. Please, follow me in my library: I'll finally tell you my problems." "Welcome, monsieur Rimbaud. Interesting library, Herr Braun. The books that a man reads tell a lot about his mind, at least to the ones able to understand." "Nice to meet you, Father. But, since you are here, I can guess that our country itself is endangered... What's happening?"
  15. It took some doing, but Emile Perreault managed to track down another former crew member, Bart. The marine-turned-pirate had left the pirate trade and had been living his life in a small fishing village. But no more, Emile vowed to make today Bart's last. BLAM! Bart fell into the water, bleeding out, and no fish in his barrel for that day. Emile made a mental note. There were only two people left he had to find: the captain and the man who recruited him. It's been awhile since I've built, I've just been busy with other things. I also wanted to try some rockwork, which has always been difficult for me. Thoughts?
  16. Our brave captain Jean Lebarbu has recently acquired a new ship boat, not quite new in fact, to be frank, it's a refurbished pirate boat, abandoned on the drydock for twenty years. Luckily for him, the boat was sturdy built and has resisted to weathering and erosion. He recruited two men wandering in the Eltina Shipyard, which is undergoing a strike, and "borrowed" some materials from the workshop. After one day of hard work, the boat was ready. Time to set sail and do some smuggling. This is a quick built, completed in a couple of hours. I built it for my son in exchange of the Destiny's Bounty intercepted by him, i told him that he can keep all the ninjas and all the weapons and gadgets, along with a new ship from dad's shipyard, and he agreed.

    Old memories

"As I told you few hours ago, I have something interesting to recount about the letter I received. It contains nothing more than a date and a location, both written in a Varcoastan military code; the lack of any further detail confirms for me that my old comrade, as is defines himself, is in serious troubles and feared that his message could have been intercepted. For this reason, since Le Phénix is already ready for the voyage, I'll leave Astrapi with the morning tide and get to Eltina as soon as possible. For this reason, Renè, you have to manage my estate here in Astrapi for a while." "Is there such a rush, monsieur Rimbaud?" "My honour depends on it" replied Tristan seriosly "But you will shortly understand. As you know, I started my career on the Western Border, fighting bandits and marauders coming from Pontilla. Ten years ago, when I was a young lieutenant,I received my first serious task: the armies of the Great Raider got close to Pontillan border during their continuous war aganist The Great Alliance States and for this reason an Oleander and Varcoastan joint force was formed, and I was in charge of our battalion; it was more a symbolic gesture than a real help, since at the time incursions towards East were quite common and Pontilla had never been really endangered, but that time was different..." "The Great Raider declared war on Pontilla, Captain?" "Yes, Sergeant Dubois... in a sense, the Great Raider was already at war with Pontilla, since his kingdom is always at war with his neighbours. I'll be clearer: their society is basically divided in three classes. The first is composed by the knights, who own nothing but their weapons and their horses, but are allowed to take whatever they want whenever they want." "The second class is formed by plunderers and mercenaries, whose fate depends on the warlord they serve and follow during forays." "The third class is made up of farmers, artisans, peasants and so on... they spend their whole life working and wishing not to starve after their village has been plundered by their lords." "You can imagine that this kind of society completely ignores borders and is based upon perennial war." Captain Rimbaud continued: "As I was saying, when we arrived in Pontilla the disaster had just happened: after a couple of little skirmishes, the army of our allies had been directly engaged and totally destroyed by those barbarians... Western Pontilla was already on fire, and the undefended towns of the East would soon have been devastated. Alexander Braun -the commander of Varcoastan forces- and I had to act quickly, without waiting for orders: we decided to move as west as we could and we entrenched ourselves in the ruins of an ancient castle." "But you only had few hundred soldiers..." "Four hundred, to be exact. It was quite a suicidal move, but we had to allow the evacuation of civilians towards Oleander border: every day we had gained would have reduced the massacre; we knew, however, that there was no way out for us." "It was a terrible battle... there were twelve enemies for each of us, but many of them didn't use firearms and their strong cavalry was useless aganist our barricades; our brave soldiers suffered severe losses, but didn't withdraw of a footstep. The enemy commanders were furious: behind us they could almost see the rich Pontillan countyside, but simply could not pass without overwhelming us... and we resisted with nails and teeth for five days, using flintlocks and swords." "And how did you survive, monsieur Rimbaud?" "We were very lucky: on the sixth day we had almost finished our gunpowder and we were waiting for the decisive assault, but it simply didn't come... an army coming from The States of the Great Alleance wedged itself between our enemies and their territories, the oppressed peasants rose up and the front moved hundred miles west. Not to be locked out, the raiders withdrew with haste, abandoning their camp with prisoners and most of the loot... What a great day!" With a half smile, Tristan continued: "After five days of uninterrupted fight, Alexander and I had become brothers rather than simple comrades. We both promised to come without hesitation to assist the other in case of need, but also not to be too proud to forget asking for help. 20. The weather is sticky and clothing becomes an imposition...the temperature is unbearable, people prefers to stay in the state of inactivity, however, what happened in the Eltina Harbour might have aroused their attention, a brand new ship of the line leaves the port and sails in open waters towards the horizon. But no, they are not excited by this spectacle, another two-decker, and than, what else? We have already three like this. This is fully understandable, one is a surprise, two is great, four becomes a habit. The Oleanders of the New Terra are accoustumed by the sight of tall ships. Neverthless, the Oleander leadership had the kindness to appoint a delagation to honour the maiden voyage of the Ardent, a 50-gun twodecker. And a dude with a shako, he looks definitely familiar... Smouth sailing, calm sea... But the weather can be capricious, l'Ardent sailing in rough sea. We'd better come back to port, quickly! Here's a view of the figure head. For this ship, I've tried some new techniques to represent the curve of the real ship, using hinges. I've also tried to build a roundish stern with hinges, as you can see on the last photo. Roundish stern. No, this is the last photo. The rear part is easily openable/removable to reveal the interior. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome. Vive le Roi! 21. The Royal Marine Office of Oleon has decided to open a branch of royal shipyard in Eltina, thereby supplying more ships, ships, ships to our glorious and incomparable fleet. Although we have already several shipyards in New Terra, but they can't manage all the orders, so it became evident to us that we need a new shipyard. After thorough consideration, the Marine Office esteemed that this new shipyard shall be located at Eltina. Once opened, it will provide considerable job opportunities to the locals, and more importantly, to the Mardieran refugees. We can see here Oleander leader inspecting the new shipyard. The fast patrol boat le Requin is being refitted after the misadventure of M***(shhh, secret mission) Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome. Vive le Roi!

Index Honorable Citizens of Oleon Colonial Possessions The Royal New Terra Company Army Units stationed in New Terra Royal Naval Units in New Terra Quick Start Guide The Builders' Bulletin Board Recurring Story Characters Noble Houses of Oleon - Nobles of Oleon Medals and Decorations A DETAILED LOOK at the EMPIRE OF OLEON Leadership King Philip I and Queen Beatrice (NPC) After the sudden passing of his elder brother - the late King Stéphan II - Philip was crowned in April 616. Whereas the late Monarch was a great admirer of the occult, driven by all things mythical, which allowed the Order of the Faith to spread its influence into almost every niche of Oleander society, Philip follows in the footsteps of his father Stéphan I. Noble and almost idealistic, with a broad education, and – growing up in the Royal Palaces of Granoleon – naturally provided with a passion for the arts, he now has to prove that he can prevail on the political stage as the absolute Monarch that he will need to be. With his beloved wife Queen Beatrice by his side he rules over the empire in a crucial time. He tasks himself with nothing less than challenging the mighty Order of the Faith, and reducing the influence of its destructive elements, especially that of the Clerics of Hades, to rebuild Oleon's reputation as the predominating cultural beacon it once was adored for. Lord Chancellor Calida (NPC) Lucier Henri Calida was born into the House of Courtia - already one of the most influential Oleander noble families - and he soon saw the potential the Faith offered him for his political ambitions. He rose to power as a clergyman, but his organizational talents were soon discovered by the Royal Court. He was appointed Adviser to the King, and excelled in various tasks, foremost the introduction of a naval focus to Oleon, and the consequent buildup of La Royale prior to the Juniper War. Today he is not only Chancelier d'Oleon – the highest administrative position in Oleon – he is also Supreme High Priest of the Clerics of Zeus, making him de facto leader of the Order of the Faith, which has blossomed under his regime. Under King Stéphan II he controlled the High Council and was First Adviser to the King, answering only to him. And as the King shared his beliefs, his authority was unchallenged. Some even say Stéphan II was a mere puppet, and that Calida was Oleon's true regent. Now, with Philip I as King, his universal authority might be challenged for the first time. Nobody can tell how Calida is likely to react to this, since his agenda remains unclear to everyone. He is feared by many, and often described as a devious schemer who will do anything to tighten the Order's grasp on Oleon. Others see in him a savior and believe him to be the only guarantor for upholding the Empire's domestic order. One thing is for sure, though, he is more likely to prepare for a war with Corrington than to read mass in a temple. Structure of State Oleon is an absolute Monarchy. The King has always been the central authority, ruling over the land with a wise and strong hand since the days of King Arltrees. Oleon is the King – and the King is Oleon. Wise Monarchs govern for the well-being of their loyal subjects, taking paternal care of them. That is the natural order of all things under the sun. So there is no need for 'representation', for 'parliaments' even, or other unsacred institutions in Oleon. But wise Monarchs also listen to advice. That is the reason why the High Council supports the King in his rule, and advises him with expertise in all matters of state. The various branches of Oleon's administration then answer to the High Council and his chairman, the Lord Chancellor of Oleon, who traditionally is the first and most important adviser to His Majesty. Members of the High Council Pierre Lavalette Genaro, Duc de Vele et Pair d’Oleon, Intendant Général des Finances, Grand’Croix de l’Ordre Royal de Saint-Arltrees. Captain Genaro @Thomas Waagenaar Pierre Lavalette Genaro is the current Duke of Vele - a booming coastal region East of Granoleon - and General Intendant of Finances at His Majesty’s Royal Court. Using his formidable fiscal talent and economic expertise, the Duke of Vele has consolidated the royal treasury, and reformed Oleon’s taxation system. By many, he is regarded as the Royal Court’s rising star. Some even go as far as saying Genaro’s influence on His Majesty has already surpassed that of Lord Chancellor Calida. Berart Mazan, Duc de Boussac, Secrétaire d’État des Colonies, Grand Officier de l’Ordre Royal de Saint-Arltrees. Phred Bodi @Keymonus The Lion of Boussac is one of the most important advisors to His Majesty, and as Secretary of State of the Colonies responsible for Oleon’s fate beyond the line. Traditionalists grumble that the task of protecting the nation from her hereditary northern enemy and controlling Oleon’s overseas expansion shouldn’t go hand in hand. But the Lion of Boussac is an able man, and where better to keep Oleon’s foes at bay than in the waters of New Terra. Guiscard Emery de Beauregard, Duc de Corban, Secrétaire d’État de la Marine, Commandeur de l’Ordre Royal et Militaire de l’Étoile d’Ardros, Commandeur de l’Ordre Royal de Saint-Arltrees, Grand-Amiral d’Oleon. Kolonialbeamter @CapOnBOBS Growing up in chateau Sans-Nuage-sur-Maine - located in the hills just outside the harbor-city of Quilbignon - the young Lord almost naturally acquired a taste for saltwater, and soon was sent to pursue a career in His Majesty’s Royal Navy. Towards the end of the Forty-Nine Years War he was promoted to Grand Admiral of Oleon, and although unsuccessful in preventing Corrington from taking the Isle of Tam, he - under the direction of the Lord Chancellor - managed the rebuild of La Royale, which ultimately gained the upper hand over her Corrish counterpart in the following Juniper War. Today the Secretary’s attention shifts towards the eastern seas as the race for New Terra is speeding up. Oleon’s fate depends on La Royale - and on the salt in the Secretary’s veins. Guérin Godefry de Tourment - nicknamed Le Doublonoi - Duc d’Eranos, Connétable d’Oleon, Grand’Croix de l’Ordre Royal et Militaire de l’Étoile d’Ardros, Maréchal d’Oleon blackdeathgr @Jeff of Clubs Ever since official records first appeared, there has been a de Tourment holding the ‘Southern Key’ and shielding Oleon from the perils of Halos. Traditionally, the de Tourments also hold the title and position of Connétable d’Oleon, providing able commanders for Oleon’s armies who have proven their loyalty in every single conflict in Oleander history. But the house is not only a source of military genius for the Crown. Over the last decades they have also grown rich as prime suppliers of the Royal Army - a development that isn’t to the liking of all at the Royal Court. Robert Perrault, Duke of Vitoria @KotZ Robert Perrault, II, Duke of Vitoria His grandfather Bernard had three children, Robert, Sophie, and Camille. Being the first child, and male, of his family, Robert, I, went on great expeditions and acquired a great amount of wealth. His sister Sophie died in childbirth, but his youngest sister Camille had a child, Emile, who now is married to Elise and runs a successful alcohol business. Robert, I, after one expedition led to him needing to amputate a leg, retired from the life of the sea and turned his sights on moving up in the world. Robert, I became the leader of a trading company, getting friends in high circles. Unfortunately, Robert I died before he reached his dream of being granted a duchy. His only child Robert Perrault, II completed that goal. He continued his trading through the homeland of Oleon, expanding it as he could. But his true test of valor came on the field of battle, by wiping out a small uprising with only himself, a maid, and the gods he prayed too. It was the two (or three, depending on the stories if you believe in the gods) of them against ten. Here, you can see Robert, II, in his library, just before he gets his duchy granted. The Order of the Faith The Order of the Faith is a secretive band of highly influential clerics that is heavily involved in Oleander politics. As little is known fact about the Order and its agenda and ways, there are plenty of rumors out on the streets. Some see the Order's influence as a danger to the Monarchy, some even go as far as saying the Order already holds the true power over Oleon, with the Monarch acting only as a puppet. Others counter, pointing out that Oleon is free of dissidents, highlighting the Orders alleged importance for Oleon's inner stability and military might. Wherever the truth lies, fact is that disagreeing with the Order is a good way to get into serious trouble! The Order of the Faith can be read about in greater detail here. The Land Oleon is the largest country on the peninsula, and its land is naturally an important economic factor. Wealth is usually measured in land holdings, and hereditary grants pass on from father to son for generations. In the interior, the rural nobility traditionally resides in prestigious chateaus, and peasants live in little hamlets, and work for their lords as they have for ages. There are few large cities in the interior, but towards the coast things are beginning to change as innovations are developed. Passing from a rural hamlet with the lord's impressive manor towering over it, to a bustling port town is like going from one world to another. A multitude of coastal hubs have begun to spring up. With oceans bordering Oleon on either side, these towns have become quite numerous, and have contributed to a new emphasis on seafaring. The Order of the Faith has encouraged this emphasis, but is still eager to preserve the traditional social ways by keeping its mystical hold on the people. With its support, Oleon's navy has boomed. Her merchant fleet is growing by the day, and the Royal Navy is famous for large battleships and highly efficient gun crews, securing Oleon’s influence on the waves. A fine example of an increasingly important city is Breshaun on Le Bellan. Founded not long ago, it has turned into a sparkling and ambitious regional centre. Society and Culture Traditionally, a typical Oleander's life centers around the values of – traditions. Considering themselves the most culturally advanced people, Oleanders take great pride in their rich heritage of arts and literature. They are generally pious people, living in accordance with the divine rules of the Gods. But temples are visited more for social reasons than out of religious zeal. It is true that the Order of the Faith holds its sway over the people, but that doesn't refrain Oleanders from enjoying life. And especially the aristocracy is known throughout Halos for celebrating the most glittering balls and festivities. Oleon's cities are well organized and planned, their silhouettes often dominated by impressive temples erected in honor of the Gods. The architectural style is mostly a mix of renaissance and baroque western European, dominant among secular buildings – especially among the many aristocratic and royal chateaus and palaces that are in constant competition to outshine each other – and classic Mediterranean influences, which are preferred for religious buildings. L'Aile du Pontis (The Pontis Wing) of the Royal Palace in Granoleon is a great example for the supremacy of Oleander architects and craftsmen. The Military Oleanders are known to be fierce warriors if necessary. Military might is of paramount significance, as land is the defining social factor in society. Honor and bravery are values that every Oleander holds in high esteem, sacrificial soldiering on the fields of battle is every Oleander's duty, to die for the nation is considered the highest honor. War Banner and Naval Ensign The Army Ever since the days of King Arltrees the color blue is prominent in the uniforms and flags of the royal military. The standard military uniform always includes a blue coat, often but not always accompanied by white cross belts. A fleur-de-lys is not uncommon on the uniforms and flags either. As presented above, the standard military flag is a white cross on a blue background with a crown over crossed cannons, but there are numerous deviations from these standards. In every case, however, the color blue must be present! (some conventional flags) As a result of a history of warfare, mostly with Corrington, many cities and ports are fortified with large walls and impressive fortresses to protect the citizens in case of an invasion. The Navy Oleon's Royal Navy – or La Royale as she is affectionately called by the people – is among the finest and largest in all of the known world. Heavily expanded after the Forty-Nine Years War at the instigation of the Order of the Faith, La Royale managed to have the edge over Corrington's navy during the following Juniper War, but has since then been locked in a stalemate with her biggest rival. Oleon's master shipwrights are considered leading in the construction of heavy warships, and the emphasis on constant training and education has lead Oleander gun crews to become the most efficient in the known world. Here you can see a fine example of Oleander ship building, the glorious HRS Pride of Oleon. Ranking System If you create your sigfig you are - of course - free to give it any rank you wish. So if you want - for example - a Captain to sail your ship through the waters of New Terra - create a Captain. If you want a Major fighting off Oleon's enemies on the fields of battle - create a Major. However, we would ask you not to start out too high up in rank right away. There are certain official ranks that can be earned, and they bring in-game benefits and lots of prestige - not to mention the awe of your foes. So fight for your own and Oleon's glory and rise through the ranks - do you have what it takes? Army Ranks: Maréchal (Marshal) Général d'Armée (Army General) Général de Division (Division General) Général de Régiment (Regiment General) Colonel (Colonel) Lieutenant Colonel (Lieutenant Colonel) Naval Ranks: Grand-Amiral d'Oleon (Grand Admiral of Oleon) Amiral (Admiral) Vice-Amiral (Vice Admiral) Contre-Amiral (Rear Admiral) Chef d'Escadre (Commodore) Capitaine de Vaisseau (Ship-of-the-Line Captain) Rank Requirements and Benefits: Promotions can be earned through military contributions, means through repeated and active participation in war campaigns, fleet actions, through acts of bravery, and - as a base requirement - you need to loyally follow orders. For promotions to High Command - Général de Régiment respectively Contre-Amiral and higher - a noble title of at least Marquis is required - to make sure only the best of the best command Oleon's finest. 'But where's the beef?' - you may ask. Well, excelling in military actions is a profound way to boost your social standing in Oleon. It will lead to some shiny medals and ribbons, can contribute to your house's growing reputation, and might eventually get you His Majesty's attention - which can open doors you didn't even believe existed. And - who knows - maybe one day you'll end up commanding the unit you were once fighting alongside with - or determine the fate of a whole royal fleet in the vast waters of New Terra. The Gran Military Encyclopedia of Oleon Oleon's long military tradition has resulted in units ranging from line infantry regiments to specialized units trained to excel in one area. This diversity is all captured in the Gran Military Encyclopedia. This detailed book houses a unit's description, pictures, and history. All Oleanders are invited to review or add to this collection. Diplomacy Oleon has a hostile history with Corrington, and during the last war the two factions proved to be an even match. Officially there is no direct trade with Corrington, but various goods do make there way around via Eslandola and smugglers of all sorts. Pirates are tolerated as long as they don't operate within Oleon claimed waters, piracy is a crime and offenders will be brought to justice when they are caught. (Note: Relationships are judged on a 1 to 5 scale; Very Friendly, Friendly, Indifferent, Unfriendly, Hostile) Oleon's relationship with... Sea-Rats: Indifferent Eslandola: Unfriendly Corrington: Unfriendly Membership To sign up, post a picture of your signature figure, preferably accompanied by Oleon's formal flag colors. You are welcome to include a bit of a description as well. Your signature figure, or sigfig, will represent your character throughout your MOCs within Brethren of the Brick Seas. (That does not mean that your sigfig has to be in every MOC you make) Although this is the “Bluecoat” faction, that does not mean that everyone should have a bluecoat soldier as sigfig. Within BoBS there are many possibilities. Build your own story – for example, your sigfig could start out as a carpenter that decides to work on a ship. Via battle experiences he ends up getting his own ship, eventually becoming a privateer in His Majesty's service, etc. For those still uncertain of what faction to chose or how to sign up in a minute, we have some simple instructions here, which pretty much sum up everything. Vive le Roi!
  23. In Astrapi was recently opened the new Commercial Bureau. This little building, situated in the port quarter of the town, represents the heart of all the trades from and to the island. Here, in fact, goods are weighed by an impartial functionary and honest prices are defined for what will be distributed in stores or exported on other islands; the functionary is also responsible for the sample of Imperial Pound kept in the Bureau as guarantee of absolute accuracy. This building, moreover, represents a fundamental meetig point for merchants looking for or trying to sell something (in this case, barrels of spices), asking for information about the most lucrative trades or needing armed escort for their ships. 24. "All right René, I owe you a bottle of Corlander Brandy... Now you can tell me how you "guessed" that our soldiers would have landed this afternoon?" "Ahaha, you are quite philosophical about your defeat in our honest bet! This morning Le Phénix, the ship carrying the men you recruited, was spotted by the fishing vessel Trident, fifty miles north of the island: considering the different speed of the ships I could easily talk with the capitain of the latter and then arrange our little gamble right before our ship could be seen from the harbour. Knowledge is power, and sometimes also ensures a bottle of fine brandy!" Renè Duchamp, quite amused, continued "Coming back to important issues, I already estabilished provisioning and accomodation for our soldier. The upkeep costs, considering wage, food, clothes and weapons, will surely reduce our monthly balance, but honestly an additional platoon in Astrapi definitely reassures me... Maybe our investment won't end with a great fire and sharp blades among our ribs." "Your optimism moves me, can I borrow your handkerchief?" Joked Tristan Rimbaud "This time, however, you are right. Mardier is defeated but not broke, and soon they could begin a guerrilla-like campaign aganist Eslandola; a considerable number of privateers and mercenaries, however, will soon be fired and, together with deserters and adventurers, will begin to sail under a black flag. The Greens and the Corries were ready to bite each other's throat for a bunch of ruins and, on a good pretext, they would really do it... only Zeus knows what could happen then! Difficult times are certainly ahead, my friend, and ten good rifles will discourage unwelcome visitors." "Finally we will also receive fresh news from the West. I don't miss gossip about the court at all, but it's always nice to hear something from our old, civilised world, not to mention trends and rumors about colonial goods. The new Commercial Bureau here in the port will improve direct trades between Astrapi and Granoleon, but we have to invest into the right wares to ensure prosperty to our town." "Exactly, Renè. For this reason I asked Sergeant Dubois, the officer in charge, to collect as much information as possible about price changes, shortage of goods and willingness of bankers and aristocrats to invest in different businesses. If we make a bad move now, Île de Zeus will remain a minor and forgotten colony; if we make the right one, it will become the centre of the commercial routes in the archipelago." "Welcome in Astrapi, Sergeant. Did you have a smooth journey?" "Thank you, Sir. Our journey was quite smooth, we only met a couple of pirate sambuke near to Southern Oleon but they vaniquished when they saw our cannons; moreover, we picked up tailwind most of the time and didn't encounter any storm. Le Phénix is an excellent ship, and proved it during the crossing." "And what about the information I asked?" "I talked with merchants and factory owners in Granoleon and wrote a detailed report. My opinion is that, excluding a little group of old conservatives, most wealthy people in Oleon are still interested in colonial investments, in particular the ones concerning spices and sugar cane. Furthermore, Sir, I was given a letter for you: it comes from "your old comrade", the man who delivered it said so, and told that you would have understood; he seemed very circumspect and had a strong Varcoastan accent, but I couldn't guess anything more." "As the messanger told you, I understood, and it concerns a promise I made years ago... It is quite an interesting story, what about discussing it in front of a bottle of Corlander Brandy? I know someone who has just won one of that and is eager to share it with his friends..." "It seems fair, even if eager is not the best word" "Agreed, Sir! And, incidentally, this is one of the reasons why I missed you, Captain. Oh, I almost forgot: an army surgeon, Doctor Marcel Laurent, joined us. He has already been in the New World and is considered a specialist in tropical diseases. In a couple of week he will be reached by his assistant carrying surgical insruments and other stuff. He asked for a building to start a little clinic." Credit Captain Braunsfeld for the bridge
  25. Elise, The devestation. It's horrifying. The recent war absolutely destroyed families. The crew and I went to see what we can do to help. He pulled alongside one of our nation's vessels and worked with them to transport some of the refugees. Rene talked to some of the soldiers, getting information on just how extensive the damage was. We didn't see the worst of it. One of the families we helped lost their mother in the conflict. The father is now having to raise two girls by himself. We're doing what we can to help, donating money, resources. Some of the refugees are being set up in some of our settlements, where hopefully they can get back to living life, even if it is in a new place. When we returned to our ship, I think I heard Jean, you know Jean, our big burly master gunner, crying down below deck. It's been difficult for everyone. All my love, Emile
