General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

Overall, LEGO did a pretty good job of covering the major scenes in the movies, but it would be nice if they released a few more sets from the previous films along with the wave of new movie sets. Blacksmith Duel ($13) - Includes cart with catapult function and rotating sword rack (with Jack Sparrow, Will Turner) Singapore Ambush ($50) - Includes river house on stilts, dock, and small merchant's cart (with Sao Feng, Elizabeth Swann in Singapore outfit, 2 soldiers) Flying Dutchman ($200) - with Davy Jones, 3 crew members, Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Pintel and Ragetti

    Which set should I buy?

I have $30 to spend on a new set, but I'm not sure what to buy. Right now my top choices are either Lake Town Attack or Soldier's Fort. Does anyone who owns either of these sets have a good word to put in for them, or should I consider something else?

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors

Looking at these images, I'm not disappointed in the sets so much as worried about the movie ... none of the new designs look like anything that is going to be fondly remembered by fans years from now. For all its faults, you have to admit that the prequel trilogy had a lot of unique and memorable vehicles, and I don't see anything here that looks like the next Naboo Starfighter or Republic Gunship. I get that J.J. Abrams is trying to recreate the "industrialized" look of the original trilogy, but these sets just seem like grey on top of more grey. That being said, I'm probably going to buy Rey's Speeder and not read any spoilers or reviews until I see the movie on opening day come December. There's really no point in passing judgment on any of the designs or characters if I haven't even seen how they look on screen yet.

    MOC: LotR Advent Calendar

After four months of designing, re-designing, parts-ordering, and building, I'm pleased to announce that my first LEGO Ideas project, the Lord of the Rings Advent Calendar, has finally been approved. Star Wars Advent Calendars have been immensely popular in the past, and I think that a Lord of the Rings A.C. would be even better. My proposed project includes micromodels of famous Middle-Earth locations and two exclusive figures: Santa Gandalf and Old Bilbo. I know that many people on this forum want to see LEGO release a set with an Old Bilbo minifigure in it, but since we're unlikely to get a Bilbo's Birthday set in any upcoming waves, this may be the only way to get him. You can check out individual pictures of all of the models in my Flickr photostream. If you want to see my Lord of the Rings Advent Calendar become a real set, please support it on LEGO Ideas!
  5. I'm looking for Roman Commander minifigures, so I might be willing to trade, but you don't have anything in your "wants" besides a missing Flickr photo. Which figures or sets are you willing to trade for?
  6. After buying out both Marvel and Lucasfilm, Disney knew it was a no-brainer to do a crossover joining the two franchises. The results, however, were disastrous; after landing on Naboo, the Guardians of the Galaxy realized with unease that it looked almost exactly like their home planet Xandar. Deciding that the planets could not coexist in the same universe, the Guardians set out to wipe Naboo from the continuum. Having already obliterated the Gungans (yay Guardians!), the team made their way toward Theed, where they would fight the Naboo Starfleet in a final confrontation to determine the fate of the planet. The Milano Spaceship A battle-damaged Naboo Starfighter Star-Lord thinking about velociraptors for some reason The last remnants of Naboo's ground support Gamora getting to know the locals Theed from a distance Rocket and Groot decide to sit this mission out

    Which set should I buy?

I've never collected Ninjago sets before, but this year's wave really interests me. Should I buy Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty (better color scheme, airbike looks awesome), City of Stiix (I like the sheer height and the rickety look), or wait a few months and buy them both used on eBay?

    Ninjago 2015

Does anyone know where I can find a picture of all the sets in this wave together?
  9. This looks like a great lineup, but I just have a few thoughts to add: - I think LEGO went a bit overboard with the new molds here. The Werewolf's head and the Zombie Businessman's hair look almost exactly like pieces that already exist. - The Crazy Scientist looks too cartoony and un-LEGO-like in my opinion, and we already got a really good CMF Mad Scientist a few years back. - The Plant Monster is my least favorite of the bunch (it looks more like a guy in a plant costume than a guy getting eaten by a plant). What I don't understand is that LEGO is fine with gruesome depictions of plant murder, but won't show anyone getting eaten in the Jurassic World video game (which is about man-eating dinosaurs, for crying out loud). - The Fly's claw looks great (nice to see that part in use again) but I really wish he had two of them. - It's so hard to pick a favorite from this series, but if I had to choose, I'd say it's probably the Zombie Cheerleader or the Gargoyle (can't wait to see that one in upcoming city MOCs).

How do you make a lego trailer?

I actually came to this forum to ask this question, and then I saw it had already been asked for me! Is the audio copyrighted, or can I use it however I want with impunity? And can I also use some of the trailer's visuals? (I'm planning on making a Lone Ranger trailer, but don't know if I can copy the title at the end.)
  11. A tea-making Luck Dragon with a chainsaw tail versus a possessed rickshaw that shoots ghosts? And a crossbow-wielding husky defending a missile-firing tea farm from Slimer? If this doesn't take the title for most awesome set of the year, I don't know what does.
  12. A new clip from Ant-Man was recently released where Ant-Man gets sucked into a vacuum cleaner along with a LEGO brick. I have a feeling this won't be the only appearance by LEGO in the movie...

[MOC] Battle of New York - The Avengers(2012)

The attention to detail here is incredible! I love the STARK lettering and the Chitauri Chariots!

[SWvsM] - Cat B - We are Groot

Knowing that even the Nova Corps and Yondu's ships would not be enough to combat Ronan's might, the Guardians enlisted the aid of the Rebel fleet to launch their attack on the Dark Aster. Just as Ronan was about to destroy Star-Lord in his own throne room, Wedge Antilles bravely crashed his starfighter through the ship and knocked him back into his throne. With the Dark Aster set on a collision course with the surface of Xandar, Groot sacrificed himself by forming a protective ball around the two pilots, which would have been a lot more emotional had he not grown back to life ten minutes later. Edit: Well, this is embarassing...I posted my entry without giving it a title. Just pretend it reads [sWvsM] - Cat B - We are Groot.

Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion

Looking at this size chart, a LEGO Mososaurus doesn't look like it would be that difficult to create a mold for. I think the main reason we won't get a Mososaurus isn't because of how large it is, but because it's an aquatic dinosaur and there isn't really a way to build a set around it.

    [MOC] Mini Simpsons House

Cool MOC! If you built a few other buildings, like the Kwik-E-Mart and the Springfield Church, you could put this on LEGO Ideas as a Springfield Town Plan, sort of like the Mini Modulars.

Parts Lego didn't need to make

Didn't LEGO design a new version of the lamppost not so long ago that looked almost exactly like the old one? That was a pretty useless piece.

Least Accurate Sets Based on Movies

The Lone Ranger sets were really good, but most of them aren't even based off of scenes in the film. The Lone Ranger never raids a cavalry camp or stops a stagecoach robbery, and the silver mine looks almost completely different from how it does on screen. Great movie, great sets, but they don't fit well together.

I may be a little late to the party with this question, but does anyone have a list of USD prices for all of the sets in this final wave?

    Ready to sell....Everything

USC/Giant sets like the Helicarrier and the Sandcrawler usually skyrocket in price on the aftermarket once they're discontinued (the Haunted House alone is selling used for $350+ on Bricklink), so you may want to hold off on a few of them for now. If you have all the sets for one particular theme, you could sell them as a lot as an enticement for collectors. And this is just a personal opinion, but you should probably keep at least five of your favorite sets in case you ever decide to get back into the hobby.

    LEGO Dimensions Discussion

Does anyone else think that this seems like a pretty risky venture for LEGO? Right now we have confirmation of at least 40 different sets being released, but nearly everyone who buys even one of them will probably want to have the $100 video game and portal first. LEGO has made video games in the past, but they're not sure how many people will be willing to shell out $100 for a game and $15 for each additional character. Also, who knew that Superman got around on his own private scooter jet? (I think a microscale Fortress of Solitude would have been a lot cooler.)

Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion

I think that the Coelophysis could easily be repurposed as a more size-accurate Velociraptor, or at least a baby raptor.
