AoM: Storehouse Phase 2: Forest Hunting Hut
mrcp6d replied to Ayrlego's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really like the slight curve in the roof! I guess you kind of have to follow the boat piece's shape at least a little bit, but it looks good too. The trees in the back placed so close together work as a nice little backdrop framing the building too. -
Louis, I like this MOC and think it's pretty good really, but a couple different choices would have really put over the edge and for me it's all about "less is more". The tower. First thing is that ruins are freaking HARD. And that said, I like the shaping and the SNOT work in there, but if all the dark brown was either dark bley or light bley I think it would be more successful. There's a lot going on visually there, and one less color would make things more cohesive. The sand green is kind of distracting. I might drop it all together, or, get some flat-ish areas in the landscaping that you could locate the color on. "Color blocking" is often talked about as a key part of a well presented spaceship MOC, but more and more I'm of the opinion it also applies to castle builds and especially landscapes. The above said, I like the rock arch you incorporated on the left and especially how you handled the tan in the path through the water and its transition out of it. I also totally agree with the others above, the horns-as-foam technique looks really good at this scale and through the camera angle you chose for us.

CDC2 Ancient Wonders: Lighthouse at Ashkharin
mrcp6d replied to jtooker's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is really nice jtooker! Obviously the sheer size is great, and I really love how you used SNOT with the columns and the concave slopes within them. Also the integration of those small column sections into the rockwork at the near corner is sublime, certainly adds some realism. Fantastic MOC! -
Epic! I love when somebody comes at a build prompt from a strange/fun angle and executes flawlessly. This is one of those times! Lots of awesome packed into a reasonable-sized footprint here.
-
Oh the floor here is fantastic! The shelves are a little simple in comparison, but you've got some great items to fill them with and they frame the window and fireplace well. Great MOC!
-
Really great MOC! Love the height here, don't get that often from microscale that isn't in the floating rocks genre. You said you used mixel parts to get the rock wedges to curve around and they do look great, but you also used mixel parts to good effect as the curtain wall crenellations.

CDC2 Ancient Wonders: The Nest of the Flying Tiger God

You're really on a roll lately with these immersive builds! The angles in the building you achieved while embedding it into the rockwork are great, as is the use of those old windows pieces.- 10 replies

Really beautiful Louis! Love the architecture here! -
Great work here Garm! Yes, this was a crowded category but I really liked your entry. The moon hanging over the waterfall and highlighting the black knight all the way through the reflection is fantastic.

[Freebuild] Elgwi's Curiosities & Ivo the Baker (Chronicles of Embervale Ep.01)
mrcp6d replied to Aurore's topic in Guilds of Historica
I really like how densely packed the wares are on the shelves in both of these builds. The angled display on the left of the larger stall in particular is well done. You've got a mastery of color that not many of us have too! -
Dragons are somewhat rare in Mitgardia, and while some are tamable, most are deadly if reclusive wild animals. The Western Large-Maw Wyvern species is known for eating deer, bear, and especially mammoth--putting its disproportionately large head and mouth to good use. While they typically inhabit the more remote mountains and foothills north of Erikson and avoid contact with humans, every now and then one of these winged fire-breathers is pressured out of its home range and become a hungry menace to the smaller villages in the country between Erikson, Falkidalr, Nordheim, and Northridge. It's good to build in the Guilds again! I actually started the dragon before even last year's CCC and had it almost complete back then but didn't finish it or build anything to go with it. The wing fabric was designed by me in FUSION360 and then laser cut. Totally a fantastic way to do this kind of stuff as opposed to trying to cut stud-sized holes with a leather punch or something and the outline with a rotary wheel and scissors--I tried that with a test piece, it's not fun and frayed edges are a thing. CAD makes relating all the features super accurate, even through the angles created by the hinges. More angles in the Flickr album. C&C is always good.

While most citizens have visited the stalls around the Black Knight's Statue, few are aware of the hidden economy in the sewers below. My entry to the 12x12 vignette category of the 2021 Summer Joust. Go Wolfpack!

This is a great interpretation! I had 6761 as a kid and I loved it, this update preserves the feel of the set for sure. As for techniques, the embedded wooden supports are a highlight for me and the way you crafted the wheel ruts is just fantastic.

Thanks jtooker! Thanks BrickzAndBrezn! The silver frog market is pretty hot, be prepared for bidding wars! Oddly enough, I had one sitting on the build table when I was putting this together, but ended up not finding any real estate that made sense to work it in. Thanks Niku! Thanks Brickwolf!

Great micro build here Louis!

[Freebuild] Embervale Castle - Great Hall (Chronicles of Embervale Prologue)

The ingot tiles as books work really well, I'm filing that technique away for future use! -
Not all of Mitgardia is covered in snow year-round! Outposts in the south near Avalonia usually experience four seasons every year and are considered particularly nice postings among the Guild's soldiers. Wow, I'm truly amazed this thing has been going for 10 years now! A couple more pictures are here. C&C always appreciated!

Dude, that mirror at an angle is just incredible. Well played sir, well played indeed.

Those ballot boxes are perfect. Brilliant idea really. And I'm not even shopping for votes!

Really great sense of movement packed into this small footprint!

This is so dang cool! Brings back some childhood memories of playing with my brother's 6057 Sea Serpent. I'm seriously considering purchasing your instructions for this beauty.

Beautiful vig here!

I only ever got a couple of the polybag sets for Fright Knights in my youth and I also stared at the catalogues probably way too much back then, so I totally understand your yearning here! Thus, I absolutely love this upsized revamp! Really cool how you maintained the same forward cant to the fore and aft roofs, in addition to all the other complicated angles here. And, of course, the dragon is spectacular!
-
This is a fun build Niku! The fall colors obviously pop out of the screen but I also really like all the lived-in details you crammed into the MOCs footprint.

Awesome interior! Really like how you crafted all the equipment and squeezed it all into the build. If I had one criticism, it's that the interior walls are very bare in some of the pictures. Some racks with tools, couple more lamps, pictures or shields or something to bring some life to the interior might have helped. Great build!
