  1. Categories: Mine Prospecting, 1st chapter The Free Traders Association search for the gold mine of an ancient civilization. Alvaro Gomez, a businessman from Punto Sur, was appointed as FTA sales representative. He was commissioned to put together an expedition to search for the mine. Prospecting Cascada de Oro B02 by Philippe, auf Flickr His people collected information and even managed to find a map showing the mine. The support of the local authority was assured through a donation to the mayor and the city guard. The search could begin. After 2 weeks they found the place but found no mine entrance. People got bored and wanted to have fun and variety. So they swam in the river and jumped down at the waterfall. By chance someone noticed while diving that there was a cave behind the waterfall. The equipment is transported on tree trunks through the waterfall. Is what the FTA found a gold mine?
  2. Jiangkai, El Oleonda, March 623 After some silver nuggets were found by chance in a field outside the town, an exploitable vein of the mineral was discovered on the nearby hills. In the next weeks, a mine was set up, and a steady flow of silver started reaching Jiangkai. Soon, the valuable metal will leave the settlement in the form of ingots and silver livres, the Oleander equivalent of pesos, shillings or pieces of eight. Before this can happen, however, the valuable lore must be reduced into small pieces with hammers and pickaxes… …transported to the surface (currently in bags and canisters, but soon rails and carts will be implemented)… …and washed in a stream of water, to separate the heavy pieces of metal from the lighter bits of stone. The mine is expected to be a valuable asset for the nation, with an expected yield of at least ten million silver livres. Therefore, even if a pile of unrefined silver minerals somewhere on a hill is very unlikely to be stolen, the mine is constantly guarded by a small detachment of soldiers. In this moment the men on duty are zouaves from New Oleon… a dull task, but definitely less risky than fighting the Lotii in the jungle! Overall view: ———————— Licensed as silver mine in Jiangkai
  3. Somewhere in the bayou, Ile Dyonisus, November 622 Copper is not exactly what a miner hopes to find, when he first hits the rock with his pickaxe. However, it is what the prospectors found in the swamps of Ile Dyonisus: the weird minerals surfacing from the mud turned out to be azurite, a valuable copper ore. Despite the initial delusion of the prospectors, the city government was enthusiastic about the discovery. Copper doesn’t immediately fill your purse, this is true, but with copper you can make bronze, and with bronze you can make the cannons that your navy needs… or, if you feel particularly pious, the bells for the new temple. Digging tunnels in the soft ground of Ile Dyonisus was out of question. The slow flow of the water, however, had already made most of the job, century after century: in some areas the copper minerals were already exposed, and damming the river was sufficient to create a sort of open mine. The mud was removed, and the valuable minerals were shattered and brought away, piece after piece. When all the available ores will be collected, the dam will simply be moved of one hundred metres, and the hard work of the miners will start again. The environment of Ile Dyonisus is particularly harsh for the miners: humidity, mosquitoes and the ever-present mud are only the most immediate problems of the workers. Moreover, drinkable water has to be brought from a nearby river, as the swamp water would probably poison the miners. Then, obviously, there are the alligators: the dam and a fence of wooden spikes are usually enough to keep them out, but on Ile Dyonisus you can never really know… As a good precaution, a few armed men are always present: if an alligator could find his way into the governor’s house (some say with a little help), a fence is definitely not safe enough! Copper will soon leave the swamps of Ile Dyonisus and reach the whole Empire, as cannons, bells, statues, boilers to make sugar or whisky, or maybe the sheathing of a ship hull! To be licensed as a copper mine on Ile Dyonisus, the swamp island. Overall view: --------------- I didn't realize how long it had been since I last built something of this scale... but, as my brave prospectors explore the bayou of Ile Dyonisus, and my soldiers march on the hills of El Oleonda, real life tends to happen! I hope I'll be able to continue soon with my storylines!
  4. Everyday life of a dwarf, mine some ore, wash yourself, visit some distant family, converse with the ladies, defend your mine against goblin intruders who try to steal your precious stuff and start to joy ride mine carts... - Believe it or not I even used some sand red, can you spot it? I also used my 12V train lightning again, for some extra character to the build and completely purist of course. :P Also check out the Movie version on youtube: https://youtu.be/bVrlT0qqqLs - Build for the Summer Joust 2022 Subterranean setting category. 5. December 621, El Oleonda, Somewhere near Fort Arltrees After weeks of digging, the new gold mine of Fort Arltrees was now operating at full regime. As he walked by dozens of miners busy with their hard job, Marcel Dubois couldn't help but notice how close the place resembled an anthill... an appropriate comparison, since at least as many miners were working right below his feet, digging narrow tunnels in the rocky ground of El Oleonda. At the last corner of the known world, at the very border of the map, citizens of Oleon were doing what they had always done: they were working hard and they were defending what they had earned, weapons in hand if necessary! The director of the mine was already waiting for him, a case of gold ingots at his side, an armed man behind him. Marcel could have easily guessed the point even without that staging: the mine was important for the wealth of the Empire, but the military instability of El Oleonda still dampened investments from the motherland, and productive activities had to hire armed guards for safety. He had heard the same complaint at least a dozen of time, since civilian merchants had appeared on the island. Marcel took a deep breath and greeted the director... in these moments he almost missed the first days of the settlement, when he only had to deal with undisciplined soldiers or drunk trappers! As the director complained about the situation, Marcel tried with all his forces not to punch his face... how the hell could he "grant peace and stability, so that Fort Arltrees could finally flourish", if the surrounding joungle literally crawled with military units, bandits, stragglers and deserters? ------------------------- A several metres below, a team of miners were struggling against the hard quartz of El Oleonda, advancing inch after inch into the rich gold vein. Meanwhile, other miners carried to the surface the rock fragments, a monotonous, exhausting job. Until carts and rails are built, this difficult task will be done by dint of arms! At ground level, the mineral is transported along wooden rails by heavy oxen carts... ...to a small furnace, where gold is smelted out the rock fragments. -------------- Overall view: ------------------- A gold mine for fort Arltrees, to complete the prospecting build I made months ago. I hope you like it!

[MOC] It's a mine to behold

The King has enough of those grumpy dwarves, he has send his funniest jesters down the mine shaft to cheer them up. Although it remains to be seen how successful it is. I also used some 12V (train) lighting for the door and windows in the mine shaft. (Build for the 12x12 vignette category Summer Joust 2021 contest on flickr) It's a mine to behold by Ids, on Flickr Some more detailed pictures: And a shot with a little less light to see the 12V lights:
  7. I would appreciate your vote on my Lego ideas MOC especially if you like the castle theme, dwarfs and Lord of the Rings Legos! You can vote for it here on the Lego Ideas website. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/eef9bd2f-282c-4613-b70e-c64b7072093f My children are my inspiration for this Lego build. The dwarfs are some of our favorite castle minifigures and there are not many sets featuring them. This build is intended to feature the dwarven race and their unique home set robustly within the natural elements.
  8. Saltpeter Mine Many Months ago, the Clerks in the Colonial Ministry found what appeared to be some lost prospecting samples from Quinnsville dated from May 616! Upon further inspection, it was made known to be of a rare saltpeter deposit. Namely the first in all of the New World. Because of the importance of such a discovery and with the help of the WTC now operating in Quinnsville, a mine was set up to extract this ore from the depths of Cocovia! saltpeter mine 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr One of several veins found, here in the corner of a cliff face, a mine shaft has begun to take shape with the help of ever useful gunpowder and hand tools. Off to one side, the foreman is inspecting a few of the recently extracted samples. -------------------------------- The saltpeter mine in Quinnsville is finally up a running! C&C welcome and apprecieated and thanks for looking!
  9. After the prospecting report came the Major of Poppy Port send out a letter to a tribe of mountain dwelling men who live in the home country of his wife, the are rather short compared to the average minifig, but they are the best in the buisness. 10. This Wild West model was originally LEGO set 79110 (Silver Mine Shootout) from the 2013 Lone Ranger theme. I added a more reinforced right wall and a real base-plate to support the model, as I know from experience it can be pretty flimsy if handed wrong. I also added the collapsing water tower from set 79111 (Constitution Train Chase) to the front corner as another action play feature. The model has also been heightened by five bricks to allow for regular train cars to pass through, and is now wide enough for custom locomotives with side-rods to fit through, except for the extra-wide time train. The natural rock formation (the skull) on top of the mine gives it it's name, and features a carved out section for two cannons to protect the mine, either from Native Americans wanting their sacred mountain back, or desperadoes looking to cash in on the (supposedly cursed) silver. These viewing windows are so you can look inside the mountain to see the details, such as the not-yet-built Delorean time machine hidden behind the waterfall. The built-in light brick helps illuminate these features. The cannons were placed in the hollowed out rock skull for defense of the mine shaft and surrounding workers camp. The room on the upper left processes different pieces of silver for purity tests via a scale and heated chemical tests. The weight of the silver ingot in question is compared against the known weight of a confirmed silver bar or a weight of the same measure. If the bar is not quite pure enough or is fake, it will weigh different from the known unit. The slide on the right is for the silver to be loaded into train cars waiting below. A six-wide steam train with single-stud overhanging pistons or a caboose with a roof-top cupola can fit through the mountain without any height or width clearance issues. The water tower supplies cleaner water to the work camp, in comparison to the water coming from the underground spring on the left, as that is contaminated with silver bits, and as such is un-drinkable. However, you can "blow out " the supports of the water tower using a Technic lever, blocking the train tracks and destroying the fresh water supply for the camp! Near the top of the mine (just above the water fall) is a spot to place dynamite and "blow up" a section of rock. When not in use, the otherwise loose dynamite piece clips into a black part just in front of the removable rock. This lower wall "blows up" to reveal silver pieces by turning the barrel on the next level. This is where the Deloreran time machine goes when Doc Brown hides it away in 1885 for his younger self and Marty McFly to discover in 1955. I though it would be a neat Easter egg to hide it away in my silver mine... I just need to build it, with the parts showing up (hopefully) very soon. Now compare my model to the original Lone Ranger set (79110) . No nearly enough room for a steam train to fit down that hole in the wall... and besides, it has a ton of gaps in the rock-work that make it seem odd. Anyway, comments, questions and complaints are always welcome, and if anyone wants to see the rest of my western stuff, see this topic here!
  11. After a long interruption due to technical problems and to the employement of many Astrapians in the building of the Royal Arsenal, rhe silver mine was finally completed. As expected, silver nuggets were just a minimal part of the lore: silver was mainly conteined in galena veins, foremd by a mix of lead, sulfur, silver, copper, zinc and pyrite, and required additional refining steps. A series of meandering tunnels was excavated, following the richest veins: the rocks were slowly crumbled with hammers and pickaxes, metre after metre, digging deeper and deeper into the bowels of the island. The rock fragments were then brought with panniers to a mine cart and then pushed outside, ready for the refining furnaces. Mining is surely one of the hardest and most dangerous jobs in the New World, but the pay is accettable and the ones who leave, for example to take to the sea, are easily replaced by someone desperate enough. Sometimes the miners daydream about finding the legendary Zeus' artifact hidden, according to the legends on (or maybe below) the island, soon after the fall of the Empire... They dream about finding, beyond one last rock wall, a long forgotten tunnel, maybe a walled door... ...and, overcome this last obstacle, finally finding an underground temple. According to the legends, the ancient artifact, the Bolt, was hidden centuries ago on an island beyond the sea, considered, until the discovery of the New World, a mere myth; it was walled in a small temple, almost impossible to find, together with a sentinel, large food and water supply for him and (for many the most interesting part) a fabolous treasure. Unfortunately this is nothing but a nice legend, and probably the artifact does not exist at all, but who knows... dreaming costs nothing!
  12. Location: Mesabi Landing Type: Coal Mine With the discovery of coal, and people dragging their bratty kids to the settlement, Mesabi Landing had two problems. FIN Thanks for viewing this build I meant to post like 3 weeks ago. I should have taken better pictures, but I took these at my house, and I'm at my dorm right now. C&C appreciated. And if you think this is dark, you should have seen the original version of this build...
  13. Greetings all, This summer, I am away from home at an internship with a mine so the only set I had was 42060, Roadwork Crew. I've never built a technic MOC before, but I'd figure I'd try after seeing all of the machinery underground that it would be a good challenge, especially since I only had the pieces from one kit. Most of the scoops at this mine are either Sandvik or Eimco, but this model is not specifically modeled after either make. The functions include raise/lower arm, movable bucket, steering, adjustable lights and opening door. Photos are below. From the front: Underground Scoop 05 by Fritz4783, on Flickr From the rear: Underground Scoop 11 by Fritz4783, on Flickr Functional arm: Underground Scoop 01 by Fritz4783, on Flickr Thanks for looking. Also, this is my first post, so feel free to let me know if I need to do anything differently for the future.

    Custom LEGO Mining Truck

Hello! I want to share with my custom LEGO mining truck. Gold mine needs a lot of trucks. And I decided to build one. This MOC is easy to build and you don't need a lot of bricks to make it. I like all official mining sets and I am waiting for some new. Do you like my new MOC?
  15. I created this modified Bucket Wheel Excavator some time ago, and I thought I would like to share it on this forum. After building the original BWE, I wanted to try to incorporate some Mindstorms functions into it. I managed to motorise all the active functions, using both an EV3 brick and motors, as well as some PF motors. Functions can be preprogrammed, or can be remotely controlled using an EV3 IR remote. Here is a list of the functions: Bucket wheel rotation and main conveyor belt - PF XL motor Lower conveyor belt - PF medium motor Boom arm elevation - EV3 large motor Lower conveyor swivel - EV3 large motor Superstructure rotation - EV3 medium motor Driving - EV3 medium motor Since I owned an NXT as well, I used it to motorise the small mining truck that was included in the set. There are also some LEDs that illuminate the 'work area', but they don't really do a good job, its just a nice thing to include. Here is a video of the excavator in action, as well as the mining truck (sorry about the poor resolution and bit rate): More info about the machine can be found here: https://www.us.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/community/robot?projectid=3e125a5b-475c-4a4c-b3ed-e4b4f2192907 Let me know what you think of it in the comments!
  16. Geologists of that era weren't always wrong about local minerals, so the city of Breshaun gave it a go... Eagerly waiting for the results! (silver maybe?) As always, thanks for watching!

  19. It should be recalled that Alex, Henry, and Jimmy were "prospecting" and found what they believed to be gold. Despite their beliefs, it was determined that actually they had found quicksilver. Once they were told, they went around and informed everyone that they had discovered the largest mine of silver in the history of forever. Their fathers on the other hand, contacted the WETEC in regard to the discovery, and soon a mine was opened. The red cinnabar ore that contained the quicksilver was removed from an underground shaft, and carted to the surface. Here we see a wagon load being pulled by draft horses to the new factory on the outskirts of town. Inside the mine, they are about ready to push a new cartload out to the next wagon waiting to be loaded. Lanterns provide light for the workers. Here is an overview of the build.
  20. Previous MOC / Mine Set up: This is Mine! --- The Extraction --- After the mining experts digged through the rock, they discovered a cave full of silver. Seriously, silver everywhere... This was a gold silver mine! Even the authorities confirmed that this was Silver And so, MAESTRO started developping the mine, financed by Lord Maximilian Damaximus. The exact location was kept secret to make sure erm golddiggers would not interrupt the business. - Anyway, thanks for reading I got a lot of those silver crystals, bought in a super lot, so this silver mine was perfect for me
  21. Underground mine entrance in the mountains of Erilea. Selecting the mineral from the gangue outside the entrance of the underground mine. A messager coming... = = = = = = = = = Here we are with a medieval MOC I created for a little event there in my places. Had fun working on it, hope you like it guys! Enjoy!
  22. Joaquim Seramon Fontonajo had brought some ores from Berreli. Impulsive as he is he had immediately bought a claim where he thought there were some great minerals - only to find out that his ores were worthless. Román decided to set a Stone Quarry in the area and make it part of the Fontonajo Mining Ventures. The Quarry is located a few miles outside of Elysabethtown. This MOC was built from 99 pieces. This includes the baseplate and all equipment, even the bull's horns. However I counted minfigs (trousers, body, arms, hands, head, hair) as 1. I had wanted to give building with large prebuilt blocks and few bricks a try, and I think it turned out quite ok. Maybe some of you will also go for a 99-pieces-MOC?
  23. Somewhere in the hinterland of Salida Este on the island of Ferro Azure, the Fontonajo family has recently started a mining venture. The workers are still trying to figure out which minerals can be found here. Maybe gold? Or maybe even iron?
  24. The Jungle (is) Mine : After being a while in Berelli, Felipe de la Manzana and his first officer Basil noticed that the jungle was very hard to replace by Apple Orchards. It is during one of this attempt to cut down some palm trees, the Eslandian team noticed some shiny metal reflections in the rock formations that forming the bed of the Dragon River. So Felipe sent out there a prospecting team to analyse the minerals. "So, What do you think of this minerals Professor ?" Asked the young Geologist Assistant. "Mmmmh... It could be some gold, or perhaps a sort of copper, or even maybe some ferrous mineral... I am not sure yet. We will need more analysis." Mysteriously answered the Geologist hired by Felipe. Nothing very special in this build, but I tryed to MOC a prospecting action in the wild to settle a mine near Elysabethtown in Berelli. Hoping to find Gold ! C&Cs are welcome.
  25. This is Mine! Jan Zwartbaard has seen a lot of places in his life. With the non-stopping growth of MAESTRO and his good friendship with Lord Maximilian Damaximus, he became an explorer for the mighty trade company. After the "Prince of Stedor" picked him up at Breshaun, he boarded the "Golden Star", starting his adventures. The "Golden Star" went first to "Ile de Romantica", where Jan Zwartbaard was received very very well. The governor of that island even offered him his own medium residence. Zwartbaard graciously accepted the offer as it would become helpfull as his headquarter. Once the construction of the residence started, Zwartbaard went to the new Eslandolan island "Isla Philip" as he heard rumours of silver floaking around. With a few miners and a dozen MAESTRO Elite Soldiers, he started searching for the silver source. Following the stream of the river, they saw a isolated small rock where the water came from. If there was a silver resource somewhere, it should be here! And so the digging started... Jan Zwartbaard Meanwhile a few pigs where doing their everyday business as it still is the island of pigs... - Licenced as a mine set-up Thanks for watching!
