I believe it's 20 euros in Germany, so maybe $20 in the US?

Yikes. That’s too much for that set, especially since I have the intention of building a small army of rebel troopers. I might just get multiple rebels on Bricklink and get just one copy of the set.

I quite like the TIE Fighter. Reminds me of the original 90s/early 2000s design. Really interesting that the wing panels are all one piece.

It is a shame they included C-3P0 in the A-Wing set. IMO they should have included a Rebel Technician or Officer. It could have been a great Army building set! :(

Now that all the proper pictures are out, yup the only one I'll be picking up is Inferno Squad... and sadly Bricklinking a fourth helmet, sigh.

Will also just Bricklink the new Rebel trooper too (printed trousers are all ready waiting for him) and his printed Death Star schematics. Other than that, no interest in any of it.

But that's great... saves me money. And space.

So I'll just go back to waiting longer and longer for new a TIE Bomber and Interceptor. :hmpf:

I think that 4+ TIE Fighter is decent. Overpriced it may be, it has some neat figs and looks more complete than the X-wing. Its probably because I really like the idea of a smaller (but not chibi) TIE, as I can't bring myself to spend $110NZ for a ship that exists to be blown up en masse. Might pick one up, and maybe a few if I find a more reasonable price.

Is there any chance of there being more sets on the way (possibly store Exclusives) for this winter wave because last year the first order AT-ST and the cantina sets were late reveals I wonder if this could possibly happen again?

75227, 75231, 75232, and 75236 are all potentials ...

The 4+ TIE has good figs, a Death Star printed piece and a TIE window printed piece. The rest is forgettable.

The 4+ X-Wing has a nice Luke and the new Stormtrooper I still need to see in real life to have an opinion. The rest is not that great given the X-Wing microfighters did play more or less a similar role for small children.

I'm not a fan of the brick-built Dewback "microfighter" nor the escape pod. I like the main droid characters in a cheap set.

The battle packs, although not perfect, are great. The Death Star escape to me is close to perfect given its size, couldn't ask for more. The two microfighters with Darth Maul and Anakin are also great with two main characters. I think at these three price points TLG is doing a fantastic job. Very good quality and very good figures at an affordable price.

My opinion as well here. Inferno Squad and the Dewback microfighter. No complaints. It's allow me a reprieve to save some money and purchase Vader's Castle and some HP sets.

Unbelievable..did LEGO finally pull it off with the 4+ sets??? A range that will be bought for the target audience, and not swooped up by man/womanchildren like us???*huh*

Is that a new TIE Pilot helmet in the TIE Fighter set? If it is it may nudge it into the 'buy' category.

Looks like the TIE Striker helmet to me I’m afraid.

Well that will keep the exclusitivity of 75211's helmet :)

It's still disappointing that the rebel trooper doesn't have leg prints

Seeing people moaning about the 4+ stuff not being accurate/detailed and being too expensive is quite funny tbh.

these sets are made for 4 year olds, what dyou expect? Why is 3PO in the A-wing Set when he’s in the microfighters Set too? Because the 4 year old isn’t buying the microfighters Set. Why is it expensive? Because they use large pieces and specialised prints, juniors sets are expensive anyway, chuck Star Wars in and boom.

honestly, sometimes is AFOLs really do need to realise who these sets are aimed at.

anyway, love all the other sets! Getting both BPs for sure. Want the droid gunship and AT-TE for my clone wars display, will go great with all the new Jedi we got last year! The drawback microfighters is awesome, might get two to go with the cantina, landing shuttle and speeder sets from the last few years.

love the Death Star Escape; iconic scene scene and a cheap way to get Leia to complete my a new hope crew display for my UCS falcon!

a nice little wave, I like the trend of popular dogs in cheap sets Lego are doing with a lot of themes nowadays, I hope they keep it up!

I cannot help to wonder why lego make SW sets (also Jurassic sets and super heroes) for kids who are waaaay to young to be allowed to watch the movies. My daughter is 4 years right now and the only reason she actually can relate to jurassic and sw is because of my lego collection. Im not saying that kids would neglect something just because they dont know about it. It would make more sense if lego made more themes similar to Power Puff girls for the 4+ theme

You'd be surprised how young some kids learn about this stuff. Their parents could be big Star Wars fans and expose them that way through toys and other merchandise. There's also the cartoons, especially Resistance which is marketed towards young kids. Heck, I knew the names of several main characters when I was 4/5 from a box of fruit snacks.

My son is 2 and can already name Vader and Yoda through exposure of toys and merch etc. Anything he recognises as Lego and he says Star wars straight away :) influencing him from a young age as most of my Lego is SW.

Anyway I'd have to consider the juniour sets for him. He builds 'Thunderbirds', bridges and tree houses etc with his duplo and can take apart and rebuild minifigs no problem (under supervision with the small parts of course). One weekend I exposed him to a small Lego car/helicopter set and it kept him busy for 5 hours! The main issue is the cost. Lately Lego's UK prices have made no sense when compared with USD or EUR prices. The minifigs may end up in my collection as he's more interested in the ships

On the other 2019 sets the death star and iden packs are must for me :)

Am I the only one to think $20 is reasonable for the TIE? Given the large pieces especially, the wings being new moulds I understand? Not to mention that gorgeous Death Star print. I also think it'll be great for kids to get a full minifig compatible ship for $20, not $60-70. I'll be getting the TIE day one as I don't own a TIE at all and don't have interest in spending £60 for one.

I wish Lego did more of these midi-scaled ships or midi-scaled minifig compatible ones like they did for the Slave I for Cloud City. Kids would eat those up, same with adults.

I have the same impression. 6-7 is a perfect age to let they see the films. Jurassic Park even later, as the behaviour of the dinosaurs is quite scary for small children.

As it has to be a market driver, I think the target audience are parents/family gifts instead o children themselves asking for the specific toys. And here it's where I don't specially like the SW 4+ sets, the models aren't that good. I see the Jurassic World ones better bang for the buck, although they aren't cheap neither.

Micro fighters are a different story. They are targeted for 6+ children, which need quite some time to build them. They used to have seen the films before, so they ask more for those toys. They are small enough for their hands to play with and good accuracy just doesn't matter at all. They need at least one or two years to learn how to build new ones with imagination with several construction angles, which gives plenty of fun time for playing and experimenting ideas.

This is something it doesn't happen with 4+ sets, which have very big pieces and very small ones which (i) limit the options for new builds and (ii) the small pieces cannot be handled that well.

But maybe it's just me...

I will only buy the Escape of the Death Star set. Looks like a fun set. Plus that white belt Luke is wearing is something i was looking for, but i don't remember why.

Hmm. The official images of the two Kashyyyk sets instead of Kashyyyk camo battle droids show 2x AAT drivers. Their painting is quite different.

They made action figures of Terminator 2, Aliens, Starship Troopers and Robocop, there was even Micro Machines of Aliens and Predator, I really don't think toy manufacturers care too much

I dunno, maybe I was a weird child, but I never, ever, liked "childish" toys or needless diverse silliness that wasn't like the subject matter. I got into Star Wars when I was 5, it was all the rage at school having been on at Christmas 1987, then Empire debuted on British TV the following year (wow we used to wait 8 years for a TV debut eh?) and the original Ghostbusters was huge too (that library ghost gave me terrible nightmares). I used to sit around and draw the Sandcrawler; loved its big mean inverted sloped front. I never wanted toys of wimpy characters like C-3P0, or exaggerated, pygmy-styled babyish looking models; I wanted things that looked like the movies and could tell the difference readily from a very young age. That time I played with my older friend Nathan's Kenner Slave 1 when I was 5 has stuck with me forever (played my first ever video game that evening too; Spy Hunter on the Spectrum... loved driving my sports car into the back of articulated lorries!). Never had a Kenner X-Wing (probably because by 86 and 87, it was all on the way out, except in my school... had to put up with Droids toys and a lot of unsold C-3P0s and Prunefaces), but got my dad to get me an Air Raiders Hawkwind because it reminded me of one:

uo_1483706271-29285-106.jpg

I even recall writing in my school book that I got an "X-Wing" (at least in my mind) at the weekend and loved that ship to bits. When the Ghostbusters toys were all the rage I didn't want them in weird and wacky new made-up uniforms that they seemed to release every year, or a neon Ecto 39; I wanted them all in the basic tan-coloured uniforms like the movie and the lovely old fashioned Ecto-1.

As I said, maybe I was a really unique child, but if figures came out of some kind of armed force (say, the Kenner Aliens series), I didn't want them in ridiculous varied outfits like Thundercats or Masters of the Universe, I wanted them all to look alike in realistic similar uniforms. I always loved seeing a group of different figures looking united in design. Years later, once I finally saw Aliens when I was around 13, I thought the marines in that were so awesome; each was unique yet at the same time quite similar and remembered back to those daft toys and thinking "I'd have much preferred them looking like they do in the film!" Maybe most other kids like weird variety, but I've always liked that feeling of a collective group looking unified. An armed force in uniform always felt so much more of an empowered threat; Starcom, Air Raiders and Manta Force all had that in spades and I loved it. It's why Stormtroopers always looked so awesome to me. When Mortal Kombat came out when I was 10, Scorpion and Sub Zero (and Reptile when I discovered him) totally enraptured me for that very reason.

Guess it's something that's put me off the new Resistance series, even though I started watch it with my son and it was pretty fun. Actually the same goes for Rebels. I dunno, I'd rather see a group of characters in, say, Gold squadron, all just wearing the orange jumpsuit, with just extra work put into making the characters unique through their personalities than simplistically letting the clothing do the talking; "oh he's the wacky one!" 5 year old me would have said the same thing; I still remember how I hated that Admiral Screed had a unique uniform for the Droids cartoon and wasn't in a classic Imperial tunic because it just didn't feel like proper Star Wars. Think that's part of why I enjoyed Clone Wars so much; great similar uniforms, with technically the same people inside them (since they're clones), yet so much effort was made to make them different people. Same goes for the game Republic Commando.

But like I said, maybe I was a weird child. But it's how I've always been. Hell when Ghost Recon Wildlands released the update when I could modify my squad and stick them all in uniform instead of their silly individual outfits, it made me feel 5 again and putting together a Stormtrooper army.

Guess it's why I don't understand Lego figures like Iden Versio, Jace Malcolm and Finn without helmets, why would you want to release a figure without the coolest part that makes them part of a big aggressive-looking army? Helmets can come off for character-play, and that adds loads to the playability, whilst not having them just feels like half the experience. You can't add them to an army, either as an army member or defector, nor can you add them to the goodies because they're wearing an enemy uniform? Just seems pointless either way.

I got annoyed when I read on here about the designer of the Falcon saying he deliberately didn't put a retractable landing gear on it because kids wouldn't find moving 4 legs individually fun. Well I put 4 individual retractable landing gears on new Imperial Landing Craft (along with a ton of other changes because it looked like crap haha, but I digress) and it's one of my 8 year old's favourite features, he makes hydraulic sounds as he retracts them and loves that feeling of "transforming" it to landing mode. Maybe it's just a case of like-father-like-son, but I like to think, maybe, just maybe, toy manufactures over estimate the appeal of wacky toys, that perhaps they do actually like unified designs like Stormtroopers and Mandalorians and that functional mechanical features are actually part of the fun of it instead of endless oversized missiles and non-movie features. As a kid I liked figures of the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles when they were all simple and all alike, before they released them as samurais and farmers and bin-men and whatever else. And there was a snapping turtle bad guy version of them to fight, I loved that unified styling. And I loved WWF figures of Demolition with their hockey masks, fighting Legion of Doom in their spiked shoulder pads.

Sorry if I went off on a tangent there. Just not sure if I was a weird child or if maybe, perhaps, others have a similar experience in their childhoods; in that the point I was trying to make is that possibly toy manufactures don't give kids enough mature credit for what they actually might think is cool. For me, realism, uniforms and helmets were WAY cooler than crazy costumes and novelty features. I wanted to re-live the movies, not have a condescending "child" version of things.

Sorry Dvogon, hope that didn't come across in any way like I was criticising you or your comments, this is solely about toy design and the manufacturers' way of thinking. And maybe I'm just talking crap with a weird childhood haha :sweet:
