  1. I don't have any train controllers. I run my modules at full power off battery boxes. I used gears to mechanically regulate speed. My GBCs are normally displayed outdoors with no AC power. My power source are sealed lead acid batteries and AA batteries. It is also possible to use the Power Functions IR receiver and PF train speed controller to set a lower speed. Then cover up the IR receiver so that nobody else can change it. I think if you're own running your own display and modules, you probably could have everything run at a lower voltage and speed. Assuming you don't have modules that absolutely need full power to work. The general public isn't going to time you to see if you are running the average 1 ball per second. Although it would be funny to see a group of kids with smartphone stopwatch apps timing me.
  2. Welcome aboard. Feel free to introduce yourself. What do you plan to use the bluecoats for? They can be anything you want. My current pirate chess has a bluecoat armed with a baguette, if you want them to be French.
  3. If money is no object, you can send pieces out to a 3rd party to have them gold chrome plated or use a DIY kit.
  4. Neat. That worked well. Do you have plans to save the F14's weapons officer in the future?
  5. You can also make your own. DIY: train wheel metal axles Buying large Technic sets also works for Technic pieces. Although there is not too much Technic in modulars, pins, bricks, 32L axle for elevator, etc.
  6. Your Rebel is fine for LEGO work. You can experiement shooting at different distances and focal lengths to see if the "look" is what you like. At 5' and 50mm and f11, you can get a bit over 9.5cm of depth of field. There are many options for lighting depending your budget and preferences. Sunlight would be least expensive. Being in Canada and winter, its availability might be a bit hard to work with at the moment. Continuous lighting can be as simple as 1-3 desk or clamp lamps to expensive professional light. Strobe lighting can be battery powered Canon Speedlite flashes to bigger more powerful AC powered strobes. There is also an array of different light modifiers for them like softboxes, umbrella, snoots, reflectors, etc. I think continuously lighting is easier to work with as you can see what you're getting and adjust the placements of the lights. I find for LEGO, flashes work best off camera. If you don't have a off camera way to trigger the flash(es), bouncing the flash off the ceiling or reflectors is still better than shooting the straight onto the LEGO. You can angle a white card in front the Rebel's built-in flash to bounce and diffuse the light. I used to use Elements. I have been using the free GIMP lately which is fine for a few photos every now and then. If you have many photos you have to go through and edit often, you may want to look at something like Lightroom or Phase One Capture. In which case, you can also shoot in the RAW format which allows more "fixing" possiblities than JPEG. Canon Rebel also comes with a RAW editor called DPP (Digital Photo Professional) on one of the CDs that came with the camera.
  7. Interesting they look like trains in black and white photographs.
  8. I build the battle pack vehicles before parting them out. I'd keep the instructions as years later I may build them again to use in a quick photo shoot. Rail Speeder Bike by dr_spock_888, on Flickr
  9. LEGO disintegrating is part the GBC life style. Do I know this GBC Coordinator? Does this GBC Coordinator know me?
  10. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
  11. Perfect for new year. Good work!
  12. Here's what I have from the ship license forms. 13. I had other stuff like pollen and tire bits. We had an outdoor picnic event that was timed perfectly to when all the trees decided to pollinate. Another time one of my high speed tires rubbed against the edge of a brick and left tiny black bits everywhere.
  14. I use a damped towel with soap or cleaning solution and wipe down a handful of balls at a time while watching a TV. Speaking of balls, there is a new unprinted white ball in the Friends Sports Center set and CITY Fun in the Park set.
  15. Welcome to Eurobricks, Andrasta.
  16. I like. It's one of my favorite jets from the 1970s. Blue Angels' colours would be quite nice.
  17. I use shock absorbers to hold my camera. I think it is ok since my P&S camera is supposed be shock-proof up to 1 meter. My preference is a camera that works and has manual modes. What do you find lacking in your current setup?
  18. I can't feel any dfifference between this year's booklet and last year's. So I took out my digital caliper and measure the thickness of a sheet in the 2017 41312 Heartlake Sports Center and the 2016 41134 Heartlake Performance School. Both measured 0.05 mm. Then I measured 5 consecutive sheets of the booklet together. 2016 was 0.27 mm and 2017 was 0.26 mm. There could be a 0.002 mm difference per sheet. Maybe someone with more accurate measuring tools can validate my results. On a side note, the 2016 set came from the U.S.A., the 2017 set came from Denmark. Creations for Charity donate new LEGO sets to charities like women's shelters. The charities give them to kids in need like for Christmas presents. There are many poor children who don't have electronic devices or Internet but still appreciate getting and building LEGO sets.
  19. Great idea for use with raised tracks. Looking at your pictures, I think you are using one of the digital pin to control the servo motor. The Arduino servo library allows most Arduino boards to control up to 12 servo motors. There are 14 digital pins on the UNO if I recall. It would be good idea to have a separate power supply to supply enough current for that many servo motors.
  20. Nice. Is the chain rubbing against the 1/4 gear quadrants? Any concerns about long term wear on the chain and 1/4 gear?
  21. There is Pick A Brick Online and Pick A Brick Wall in the LEGO Stores. The PaB Wall is cheaper if you spend the time carefully packing as many pieces as you can into a cup. The cheapest I found so far is winning contests with LEGO prizes.
  22. The OP did ask for "dream". Not all dreams do come true but one can still dream.
  23. Welcome aboard. Nice MOC. I see you pirated LEGO's trademark logo too. Well done.
