[MOC] Bell ringing machine
dr_spock replied to aeh5040's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Clever ding-a-ling. Nice ring to it with those quarter gear pieces. -
How about a dual layer layout to use up as much tracks as possible?

Mindstorms - Smart Applications ?
dr_spock replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree Arduino is an inexpensive alternative. It works well with Power Functions too. I put together a simple automated Power Functions train control and detection for less than $10 of electronic components. No LEGO parts had to be modified. EV3/NXT would be better if you don't like soldering components and crimping wire connectors yourself. Also there is less chance of hurting yourself with EV3/NXT. -
I rate the PT as average movies. If Lucas is going to redo them with some "fixes" like he did with the OT, maybe he could do some actor substitutions here and there. Day 275 of 365: Death of Count Dooku by dr_spock_888, on Flickr

The Star Wars Holiday Special Review
dr_spock replied to VaderFan2187's topic in Culture & Multimedia
This is evil. Princess Leia would most likely told where the secret rebel base really is if Vader Forced her watch that instead of using an interrogation droid. If your desktop has HDMI out, you could connect it to your 60" TV for the ultimate pain. Some TVs also have VGA and DVI inputs that could work with a computer video output. -
Mindstorms - Smart Applications ?
dr_spock replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Years ago I tried to make a Doctor Who NXT Dalek. I programmed the NXT to roam around looking for a live target to shoot. It used the ultrasonic sensor to detect obstacles and change directions. If the obstacle is alive (moved), it will play the "exterminate!" sound bite I digitized and fire a LEGO dart at it. I abandoned the project after finding the speaker in the NXT was too weak to be properly heard in an environment with many people around. Yes, it is possible to escape my Dalek by running up stairs. -
Welcome to Eurobricks, Aaryana. You can identify other female Eurobricks LEGO fans by their Lady tag. If you'd like a Lady tag, you can request one in this thread and have access to the Ladies forum.

They used that approach with the UCS Imperial Star Destroyer back in the early 2000's. It came in a huge box with four smaller boxes inside. I think also to keep the pieces and weight distributed. It can probably prevent damage to some parts if they don't all sit under or be struck by a huge heavy pile of other parts when courier shipping guy toss the box onto your driveway and run.

Welcome aboard. What kind of engineering are you going to be studying at university?

I think you are going to need a bigger coffee table soon. Adding switches in a passing siding format could give you more space in the center for other coffee table uses like books, drinks. etc.

I have a suggestion. If you can make your photos a bit bigger or make them hyperlinks to a bigger picture, that would be helpful to see the details.

What do you do with your LEGO Boxes
dr_spock replied to TheLunabrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Friends boxes do fold flat. I found it looks a bit decieving that it can go flat with the clever curves they folded into the box until I flattened one. -
Official LEGO Message Boards Closing
dr_spock replied to BrickWild's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO.com forum is well moderated, nothing you post goes live publicly until it has been reviewed by a moderator if I recall correctly. It's a very labour intensive site to run. Even when I posted my entry for a Rebrick contest, my pictures had to be moderated first before they show up for the world to see.- 7 replies

[MOC] Tractor Dump Trailer
dr_spock replied to MajklSpajkl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good job on the trailer. I really like those tires. You don't have to say it is an inexact copy of the a HP30. You can say it is your own design and you were inspired by the HP30. -
Fragile wires or not
dr_spock replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Somehow I managed to nick two wires on my Power Function Train Motor. It still works. Otherwise, I haven't broken any other wires in my years as an AFOL. I burned out a few M-motors in my GBCs though. PF motors with broken wires seem like good candidates to rewire for use with a microcontroller like Arduino or ESP8266 with motor driver type LEGO projects.- 20 replies

Official LEGO Message Boards Closing
dr_spock replied to BrickWild's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Maybe LEGO.com forums can't compete with Eurobricks.com and LEGO gave up. When company drops something, it can be to cut costs, change strategies, remove a non-core function, and/or the big boss say so.- 7 replies

For large Technic sets, Costco from time to time have decent sales on them. Some times they have limited inventory so you have to be quick.

If you're a member of a LUG, you could ask your LUG Ambassador for help. He/she would have some contacts inside LEGO.

Thank you. I like to try to find unique rail equipment. Method 1: Jump off the passenger compartment, run after and jump on the outhouse car. Method 2: Climb up onto roof of passenger car and jump onto outhouse car. Thank you for the link. That was a good read and information.

Cool. Good work on the circuit board. Is there a reason the LED display is using I2C_OUT instead of I2C_DISPLAY? P.S. I think it is more fun to watch if the trains do collide at the crossing after several prevention stops.

Very nice. Decals really bring it to life.

How about sending a cease and desist letter to the seller? If seller failed to comply, then you can try to sue them for damages.
