  1. I will have to ask my brother. He is currently creating his "awesome set-up" and while he has told me plenty of details for the larger Mecha and spacecraft, his Speed Champions have not featured in his design brief. Cars are his passion though, so I am sure he has something planned.
  2. Hello! You sound like one of the best grandad's out there! I love that turntable, I hope you and the grandchildren have a lot of fun Enjoy the forum, the train community are chugging away here
  3. Enjoy the forums It is always good to meet more MOC builder.
  4. Hurrah, a new MOC builder joins the forum! I hope you enjoy your time here and find a contest that piques your interest soon!
  5. Cheap Mechs look like an easy way to sell Minifigures without encroaching on whoever has the Action Figure license for the IP. LEGO got into hot water back in the beginning (Yellow Star Wars figs era) for selling "sets" that were just minifigures with a stand. Whichever manufacturer had the license to make Star Wars action figures were able to successfully argue that these were infringing their license and beyond TLG's license terms as a minifig or set of minifigs depicting Star Wars characters without any significant construction element were just Action Figures and TLG were not licensed to do that. If TLG can just slap a figure into a basic build then it is not just an action figure. I think this is why there is also no Star Wars CMF series, even if Marvel and DC have CMF series (though the Batman one was LEGO Batman Movie related). I think an argument can be made that it is a surprise blind bag collectable toy, so there might be hope for the future.
  6. Ah, I use Chrome for Mobile and Chrome on my PC so there would be a few differences between those browsers.
  7. Did I miss a step or anything that could have been helpful? I have been looking to update our newbie guides which were made a long time ago, so any feedback can help me make better guides!
  8. Those are the bootleggers, who steal whatever they fancy. Not the legit competitor brands. Seeing as TLG shamelessly stole the original idea of the plastic brick with studs (only admitting it decades later while suing Tyco...), it is probably best to say that other brands these days keep LEGO on their toes. As neithan said, bluebrixx is absolutely fine and Zuru have also produced some fine quality products (also some not so great, but win/lose right?). Having more stuff out there is better than a monopoly.
  9. Ah right. I must have missed that in my read through. Yeah, it is still pretty spiffy to find out that Baby-fig or Walkie-talkie and know you have the Spaceman!
  10. Hiya You can edit your signature by accessing the dropdown menu next to your name in the top right on Computer based browser or the "hamburger" menu on Mobile. Select "Account Settings". On PC you are taken to a page and on the left is a selection of things you can alter from this place. On mobile there is a table with a blue bar at the top labelled "Settings Area", tapping that phrase opens the list which allows you to enter the signature page for editing.
  11. I think there is a risk of boxes being opened. Again, depending on the shop (per my earlier post) there is a high chance of someone opening blind packs to steal the contents. Some places certainly are concerned for it, they keep the packs in secure locked boxes the sales staff have to open. Or the item is kept right by the sales desk (or even behind it). I don't think it will cause a collapse in the market, but they might find it does not promote the sales they wish, as people fall off purchasing as there is no chance of checking you can get what you want. As for "Thrill of the hunt" I do not enjoy blind packages for this. I prefer the search for rare things (Say, books or a vintage/uncommon toy like a Zoid) There is nothing like the dopamine hit of finding a 1970s printing of Heinlein short stories with one of those superb psychedelic covers, or stepping into a toy shop and discovering a Zoids 2 boxed/unopened Sabre. I know exactly what I am getting but I have still had to hunt it down. Blind Boxes are a roulette chance, a bit of a gamble so you are not getting the "hunt success" good feelings, but the gambler's high. If you see something you think is unwelcome on the boards, please report it for staff to deal with; not try and pick a fight or start an argument in thread. Not only does it keep a thread on track, but it lets Staff keep aware of member behaviour and potential issues.
  12. Sorry guys, it is only February 2023. Maybe when something is rumoured for 2024 we can get a thread going but right now this is just a wishlist of cars OP wants to see.
  13. Another tip I can share is drawing the building you would like to make, even tracing an actual building picture if that is what you want to build. Then see if you can put the shapes in to LEGO parts using building techniques that a production set can teach. Sometimes, good MOC builders also share techniques in videos etc out there on the internet so you can learn something more advanced.
  14. So, plastic windows in boxes are not going to improve sanctity of the box. People can and will steal from clear display. See this Mini Brands egg/blind package display box? See that little window that has a few samples of the toys? Nearly every single one of these boxes I see in stores have had those ripped out. I will see a fresh box put out on shelves, I can go around the shop (supermarket or Toystore etc) and come back within 30 minutes to find at least one stolen from the display. Sure the "nicer" supermarket has a lot more security going on (The guard on shift when I most often visit Sainsbury's knows that I am looking for specific minifigs, so doesn't bother me now!) though even the classiest place has a few of the display toys missing from the box. Not the clearance section, not the box in the trash pile; the box on the shelf. Heck, Zuru used to have a brick glued to their boxes of compatible brick toys (to show you how close to the main brand they were) even those got stolen!
  15. Sometimes tape can cause more damage to a box than anything else. The glue decays over time and leaves a bad residue and can affect the printing ink and cardboard of the box, sometimes even lifting the printed layer away and transferring it to the plastic of the tape. Other plastics can also affect cardboard, even when not glued in to place, again the plastic decays over time and leaves stains and residue. This is why Mylar Bags are used for Comic Books, the plastic will not damage the quality. If you want something kept in high grade condition, it may be worth while looking into what is available for collectors and fans of certain toys. The market is good these days, so manufacturers and smaller projects produce all kinds of packets to keep many sizes of boxes in good condition.
  16. I have booked my flights. I know I cannot be room-responsible, but I don't mind where I share
  17. Uh oh! I think I might see what I can help fix in the newbie threads so people stop using the uploader!
  18. Uploading to the forum causes this. It is a glitch I am not able to remove. @Jim has this been fixed for Admin at least? I would advise to use Bricksafe or imgur to upload pictures and then link them into your posts.
  19. I just need a few gallon buckets of each! Those will be excellent for rounded/circle construction.
  20. Who's still looking for roommates or chalet shares?
  21. All this IP shenanigans was something I had a passing interest in during my late teens (long story short, in my "senior year" I had a lot of free time and a lot of resources I could consume, teachers and school staff never minded that I only had 10 hours of class in a 25 hour week simply because I was reading so many educational texts and taking full advantage of the school's nascent web-access to academic papers). I have also been a dabbler in Fan Fiction writing, for decades now, so it was something I brushed up on if only to understand where I stood depending on which media work I was drawing from. (A mention of Anne Rice can still make fan writers shudder). It is what has made me very wary of participating in IDEAS myself, I enjoy whole ownership of my creations that I drew from my own mind An excellent example!
  22. Well yeah. I think the Castle in the Disney film is just a background set apart from a few internal moments that are more for the Evil Queen than Snow. The only other "iconic" location is the flipping Glass Coffin. Not exactly something that would make a prestige set eh? (I mean, a transparent clear coffin piece would be super neat, but not going to have a lot of public appeal!) Also a point of order: The "Coincidence" Is such Legal bull-droppings to cover them if/when they make a set exactly like a failed submission. "Oh, what a coincidence. We have made a set that closely resembles your submitted build. Isn't it good that you agreed that it was all a coincidence when you submitted it. So we don't need to give you a single red cent." Yes it does mean they can't give recognition. If a massive company says they "took" an idea from someone in any way shape or form, they are open to all kinds of IP ownership issues and again, the designer/source of said idea could use that admission from the company to try and get some money. Or even a lot of money. LEGO used to have to send out a letter to fans who mailed design ideas in the past, telling them they couldn't accept them because of the legal ramifications. A lot of companies don't accept those sorts of unsolicited creations for the exact same reason. TLG started the IDEAS platform to have the legally binding agreements in place to allow them to do exactly as they pleased with unsolicited design ideas (and of course the contests that are soliciting for specific Ideas). Sure, some breadcrumbs of recognition and royalties are scattered to a chosen few, again, to give it a veneer of a super neat community/crowd sourcing project instead of a cold hard method of data collection. Very few people would be happy if TLG said that they outright used their IDEAS submission without some monetary compensation. Maybe if all they want is to be a Big Guy in the fan community. But it would also attract lawyers like flies to the aforementioned bull-droppings, who would see a chance to get money out of one of the biggest toy companies in the world and possibly even a couple of coins to chuck at the "plaintiff" after they've skimmed their fees off. If you are a lawyer, sorry... ish.
  23. https://ideas.lego.com/terms People agree to this when they submit to IDEAS. So, TLG have it all wrapped up and can do what they like. Like I said, where are the original Ideas? People submit stuff that either already exist within LEGO products and licences; Disney and LEGO have been partners for decades, submitting a build to Ideas of something from a really popular Disney film (aka Snow White's Cottage) , it isn't surprising that it did not pass review but a set will be made for the Disney subtheme. For all we know, it didn't pass because a set was already in the production pipe-line. If say, Treasure Planet, Atlantis or Black Cauldron builds were submitted to Ideas, passed the 10,000 mark but failed review only for sets to be released later; that would be a bit suspect. Those films do not have the kind of backing by Disney that would mean products were considered prior to Idea success. Though, LEGO are covered by what anyone submitting has agreed to, as quoted above. Or what about some random IP LEGO is not connected to, like Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. If someone submitted, oh, an Angel Interceptor, that got the 10,000 or more votes, did not pass review and then LEGO comes out with an Angel Interceptor Icons set? Well that would be weird too. The series is not widely popular or current, it has fans enough that it could get the votes but would not be well known enough that an Icons set was already planned. Once again, LEGO are covered, whoever submitted an Angel Interceptor agreed to it. Is exactly true. Though, once again, submitting to IDEAS, you do give up the rights for long enough that TLG can develop something from your review rejected/not-passing 10,000 votes Idea submission. If an Idea was point blank rejected from the site and it wasn't for disobeying the Submission Guidelines/Rules and then TLG came out with the same thing; you would have something of a standpoint you could make. The whole thing can only be a marketing data collecting exercise anyway, with a reward for enough people that everyone forgets that fact. I might just be too much of a cynic though.
  24. Q4T. Unpopular? Opinion: Ideas is too filled with IP and boring Real Life Objects. Where is the creativity? Where is the interesting stuff? Where are the actual IDEAS?
  25. LEGO Eda is a meme, there is a graphic of the character as a Minifig and through whatever mystery process, a meme was born.
